Helen Minnie Kinney 1921-2004

Helen Minnie Kinney, 82, Kimball, Neb., died Friday, April 2, 2004 at the Kimball County Manor. A funeral was held Monday, April 5 at the Cantrell Funeral Home Chapel in Kimball with Rev. Roger Gillming officiating. Burial followed in the Dix Cemetery.
Cantrell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established to the Kimball County Manor.
Helen was born May 10, 1921 north of Kimball, the daughter of John and Hazel (Wood) Jessop. The family later moved to a farmstead north of Potter.
Helen married Elmer Holliday. The couple eventually divorced.
Helen married Charles Kinney on Jan. 14, 1947 in Kimball. The family moved to Grant, Neb. where Charlie farmed and then back to Dix in 1951.
She was a resident of the Kimball County Manor for 18 years. Helen enjoyed embroidering, cooking and family.
Survivors include her sons, Wayne Holliday and wife Pat of Hazelton, Iowa, John Kinney and wife Jodi of Kimball and David Kinney; daughter, Vi Neil and husband David of LaPorte City, Iowa; brother, Jim Jessop and wife Shirlee of Vinton, Iowa; sisters, Lily Scheib of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Mary Allen of Waterloo, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles Kinney; son, Francis Holliday; daughter, Clara LaRue; grandson, Roy Medbery, Jr.; two brothers and two sisters.

Lorene Lindley 1922-2004

Lorene Lindley, 81, of Chappell, died early Friday morning, April 2, 2004 at the Miller Memorial Care Center in Chappell.
Funeral Services were held Monday April 5, 2004 in the United Methodist Church in Chappell with Rev. Harun Gatobu officiating. Interment will be in the Chappell Cemetery.
A memorial has been established.
Holechek Funeral Home in Chappell is in charge of arrangements.
Lorene Labell Lindley, the daughter of William Raymond Sterns and Elizabeth Lettie (Andersen) Sterns was born June 4, 1922 at Chappell. She attended High School in Chappell, Ovid, Colo. and graduated from Denver Public High School.
On December 20, 1943 she was united in marriage to Russell Max Lindley in Ogallala. After residing in Ovid for a short time, they moved to the Lindley family farm in the Goodview community northeast of Lodgepole in 1945. Together they farmed until 1986. After Max passed away, Lorene moved to Chappell.
Lorene enjoyed gardening on the farm and was a member of the Goodview Sunshine Club. She was past Worthy Matron of the Wenona Chapter #281 of the Eastern Star and was member of the Shrine Auxiliary.
She enjoyed playing cards with friends of various card clubs. She was loved and devoted her life to her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister, Gwen Hecker and one half sister, Marie Saiser.
Survivors include one son, Gary Lindley and wife Sheryl of Muscatine, Iowa; one daughter, Pam Nienhueser and husband Dennis of Sidney; five grandchildren, Darcy Lindley of Acworth, Ga., Rana Jordahl and husband Stacy of Charleston, S.C., Todd Nienhueser of Sidney, Dana Nun and her finance Brian Booe of Waverly, Neb., Kyle Nienhueser of Waverly; and two great-grandchildren, Kennedy and Mason Jordahl.

Nadine Castle 1932-2004

Nadine Castle, 71, of Peetz, Colo. died Monday, April 26, 2004.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m., Friday, April 30 in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Peetz with Father Jim Baird officiating. A Christian Wake service will be held on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Peetz.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the School Scholarship Fund at P.O. Box 35, Peetz, CO 80747, or to the donor’s choice.
Friends may call on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney.
Dolan Nadine Castle was born November 19, 1932 in Iowa Falls, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Ruby (McVicker) Hahn. She attended many different schools while growing up as her family moved around a lot.
On November 17, 1965 she was united in marriage to Gerald William Castle in Sterling, Colo. They lived in Sterling until 1970 and then moved to Peetz where they have since resided.
She was an active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband Jerry of Peetz; sons, Gary Dale Lacher and his wife Diana of New Windsor, Colo., and David Leis of Sterling; brother Dennis Hahn and his wife June of Peetz; sisters, Donna Lanckriet of Julesburg, Colo., Wanda Goldsmith of Potter, and Sandra Dickinson and her husband Larry of Chappell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Wendell Hahn, sister Shirley Wilson, and step-daughter Katherine Castle.

Estle E. Nelson 1910-2004

Estle E. Nelson, 94, a longtime Cheyenne County resident, died at Memorial Health Center in Sidney on Monday, April 26, 2004. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the Potter United Methodist Church in Potter with Pastor Mary Frohs officiating. Burial will follow in the Kimball Cemetery. Friends can call at the funeral home today from noon until 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to the family’s choice.
Estle E. Nelson was born on October 1, 1910 at Blockton, Iowa, the daughter of David R. and Nellie (Kelley) Raper. She grew up in Missouri and graduated from the Northeast High School in Kansas City, Mo. in 1928. She moved with her family to Sidney in July of 1928. She attended Chadron State College for one year and also taught at a rural Cheyenne County school for one year. She then took nurses training in St. Joseph, Mo. and then returned to Sidney and worked at the Taylor Hospital until she was married to Clyde Nelson on June 14, 1938. They made their home in Potter and lived there until until 1993 when they moved back to Sidney.
Survivors include, one niece, Jeanne and her husband Ralph Jordan of Arlington, Texas; three great nieces and one great great niece, all of Texas; one nephew, Mike Raper of Grover, Colo. and her husbands niece, Shirley Griset of San Diego, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1994, an infant daughter and one brother and his wife.
Gehrig Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Scott Rufenacht 1954-2004

Scott Rufenacht, 50 of Lodgepole, died early Tuesday, April 27, 2004 after losing his battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today in the Weyerts Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastors H. Eldin Wells and David McDonald officiating. Burial will be in the Weyerts Cemetery.
A memorial has been established.

Scott was born March 28, 1954 in Glendale, Ariz. to Walter (Pete) Jacob and Patricia May Nelle (Earnhart) Rufenacht. As an infant, Scott and his parents moved to Nebraska to help operate the family farms north of Lodgepole. He attended country schools in his early elementary years. He later finished his education at the Lodgepole Public Schools, graduating from Lodgepole High School in 1972. He worked in automotive, construction, and later drove truck while living in Kearney, Neb. He later moved back to the Lodgepole area where he became engaged in farming. Scott spent the rest of his life in the agriculture industry.
On May 19, 1984, Scott married Teresa (Teri) Cabela in Sidney. To this marriage they were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Sara Dianne and Rachael Marie. Scott and Teri late divorced.
Scott was an avid hunter, enjoyed fishing and all things associated with the outdoors.
Survivors include his daughters, Sara and Rachael Rufenacht of Sidney; his mother, Patricia Rufenacht of Lodgepole; his brother Gregory Rufenacht and friend Sheri Long of Chappell; two sisters, Renae Porter and husband Dwight of Bridgeport, and Shelley Peterson and husband Todd of Lodgepole; his nieces and nephews, Katie and Jessica Porter of Bridgeport and Tucker and Whitley Peterson of Lodgepole; very special friends Norma Michelman and son Curtis; and Bill and Diane Borm all of Lodgepole.
Scott was preceded in death by his father, Walter (Pete) Rufenacht.

Mildred Booth

Mildred Booth, 88, longtime Ogallala resident, died on April 28, 2004 at Indian Hills Manor.
Visitation will be on Monday, May 3, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Draucker Funeral Home in Ogallala. Following at 2 p.m. will be the Graveside Service at the Greenwood Cemetery at Sidney. The Rev. Eldin Wells of the Dalton Presbyterian Church will officiate. A memorial has been established in her memory.
Survivors include her daughter Josephine Wietor of Kurtistown, Hawaii; her son David Boyer of California; and her brother Jay Nielsen and his wife Carmen of Paradise, Calif.
Draucker Funeral Home of Ogallala is in charge of arrangements.

Harold Heath 1927-2004

Harold Heath, 76 of Sidney, died Friday, April 30, 2004 at the Memorial Health Center, Extended Care in Sidney.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 5, in the New Life Assembly of God Church in Bridgeport with the Rev. K. Melvin Johnson officiating. Military graveside services and burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Broadwater.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the Memorial Health Center, Extended Care Alzheimer’s Unit.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney.
Harold Lewis Heath, the son of John Lionel and Lulu Mae (Lewis) Heath was born July 10, 1927 in Saginaw County, Mich. As a small child he moved with his family to Morrill County, Neb. He received his education in rural schools in Morrill County before graduating from Broadwater High School in 1946. In February of 1951 he was inducted into the U.S. Army. While home on leave he was united in marriage to Bernadine Timblin on September 23, 1951 in Hemingford, Neb. He returned to the Army, serving in Germany before his discharge in February of 1953. After his discharge he worked at the Sioux Ordinance Army Depot at Sidney before returning to the family farm in Morrill County in 1957. He retired from farming in 1993 and lived in the Broadwater area until June of 1995 when he and Bernadine moved to Sidney.
Harold was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W.
Survivors include his wife Bernadine Heath of Sidney; one son, Donald (Ray) Heath and wife Ella of Rushville, Neb.; one daughter, Darlene Hastings and husband Dennis of Grant; one brother, Paul Heath and wife Jo of Springfield, Mo.; one sister, Katie Lundy and husband Albert of Moscow, Idaho; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Esther.

Dr. David Ronald Reichert 1934-2004

Dr. David Ronald Reichert, 69, died April 28, 2004 in Arizona after a courageous battle with cancer. A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, May 8 at 2 p.m. at the Zion Evangelical Church in Scottsbluff, Neb.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley Thunderbird Unit, 15252 North 100th St., #2157, Scottsdale, AZ 85260.
The family wishes to thank Hospice of the Valley for their wonderful care and support.
Ron was born Aug. 17, 1934 in Gering, Neb., the son of Dave and Mollie (Abel) Reichert. He was raised on the family farm in Minatare, Neb. where he was educated and graduated from high school.
Ron married Lorraine Rohrick on Sept. 20, 1953 in Scottsbluff.
He farmed until he was inducted into the Army and served from 1954-1956.
Upon his honorable discharge from the armed services, Ron resumed farming and began to pursue a college education at Scottsbluff College. He received a Bachelors and Masters degrees from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and a Doctorate from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.
Ron was a teacher, coach and school administrator in Nebraska schools for 35 years until his retirement in 1994 as Superintendent of Scottsbluff Public Schools. He also served as Superintendent of Schools in Sidney from 1976-1989.
Ron was described by colleagues as an advocate for kids who loved his work. He was admired and lived for his family and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his daughters, Michele Lien and husband Ron of Gering and Marla Bouise and husband Dr. Joe of Phoenix, Ariz.; grandson, Brock; granddaughters, Katelyn and Shayla; brother, John H. Reichert of Minatare and sisters, MaryAnn Margheim of Stafford, Va. and Helen June Schlager of Scottsbluff.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and sister, Judy with infant son.
