Robbie Gladys Adamson 1932-2004

Robbie Gladys Adamson, 71, Valentine, Neb., died Monday, June 7, 2004 near Ansley, Neb. Her funeral was Thursday, June 10 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Valentine with Fr. Bernard Berger as celebrant. Burial followed in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Valentine. Sandoz Chapel of the Pines was in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers memorials have been established in Robbie’s name to the needs of her children or to the donor’s choice. Memorials may be directed in c/o the Community First Bank, 205 N. Main, Valentine, NE 69201.
Robbie Gladys Jordan was born Sept. 5, 1932 in San Pedro, Calif., the fifth child of Robert and Ruby (Crabtree) Jordan. She grew up in California and graduated from Banning High School in Wilmington, Calif. in 1951.
Robbie married Donald Adamson in 1953, and the couple moved to a ranch in Cherry County, Neb. To this union three children were born. The couple later divorced.
Robbie was a life-long photography buff and after working for Paul Bader for many years, bought Bader Studio. She ran the studio for many years until her son, Mark, joined her in the business. Robbie also worked as a sales clerk for Young’s Western Wear before purchasing Bader Studio.
She was a great cook, and while living in New Mexico learned her special touch for making Mexican food. Robbie was a people person and a great friend to all she encountered.
She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. Robbie took great pleasure in watching her grandchildren grow and took pride in all of their accomplishments. She was also devoted to her Christian faith and loved serving the Lord. Robbie will be greatly missed by all.
Survivors include her three children, Lynn and husband Roy Fitzgibbon of Chadron, Neb., Pam Ray of Sidney and Mark and wife Leesa Adamson of Valentine; brother, Jack and wife Barbara Jordan of California and six grandchildren, Siobhan and Patrick Fitzgibbon; Jason and Linsey Ray and Daniel and Lesley Adamson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister.

Norman Rushman 1921-2004

Norman Rushman, 82, life-long Cheyenne County resident, died Wednesday, June 9, 2004 at his rural Dalton home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 15 at 10 a.m. at the Salem Lutheran Church in Gurley with Pastor Ted Bourret officiating. Interment will follow in the Dalton Cemetery. Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney is in charge of arrangements.
Friends may call Monday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials have been established to the Salem Lutheran Church or Memorial Health Center Hospice.
Norman was born Dec. 2, 1921 in the Weyerts community, the son of Hans and Marie (Peterson) Rushman. He was baptized and confirmed at Weyerts Immanuel Lutheran Church. Norman moved with his parents to rural Potter in 1936 and graduated from Potter High School in 1940.
On November 10th 1946, he was united in marriage to Gertrude Steffens at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Potter. The couple farmed in the Potter community until 1949 when they moved to their present home southeast of Dalton.
Norman played baseball with the Potter town team and then with the family Bunker Hill town team for many years. He loved the game and when his son, Russ, was old enough to play he coached. Norman coached the Dalton Legion baseball team to many championships.
He took great pride in being a farmer. Norman was noted for taking great pains to make sure he had a good stand of wheat each fall. He was a hard working, honest and loving man who cherished and nurtured his family above all things.
Norman was always there for his family when needed. There was never a family gathering without the decks of cards coming out, be it Sheephead or Pitch. We will all miss Norman very, very much but he has given us all such wonderful memories!
Survivors include his wife, Gertrude; children, Russell and Annabell of Dalton, Carolyn Dishman of Gurley, Marlene and Mike Slama of Potter and Richard and Kim of Gurley; grandchildren Robert and wife Nicki, Roland and wife Sherri, Brooks and wife Angie Rushman, Christy George, Eric and wife Stephanie, Andy and Bridget Dishman, Casey Slama, Alli and husband Brian Judy, Joshua and wife Sara, Anthony and wife Heidi and Felicia Rushman; 10 great-grandchildren Amber Makey, Tyler, Ashley and Carly Rushman, Brett, Kayla and James Rushman, Jacob Rushman, D. J. George and Elena Dishman; nephew, Myron Lessman and niece, Marlyce Shaffert and families.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Alvin Rushman and sister, Ella Lessman.

Leatha Faye Hawkins 1908-2004

Leatha Raye Hawkins, 96, long-time Peetz area resident, died Thursday, June 10 at Memorial Health Center Extended Care in Sidney. Her funeral will be Monday, June 14 at the Peetz United Methodist Church at 3 p.m. with Rev. Beverly Webb officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney. Gehrig & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Friends may visit at the funeral home Sunday from noon to 8 p.m. and Monday from 8 a.m. to noon.
Memorials have been established to the Peetz United Methodist Church and MHC Extended Care.
Leatha was born Feb. 23, 1908 in Churdon, Iowa, the daughter of Gottfried and Lillian Schaer. At the age of two her family moved to Merino, Colo. Leatha attended school in Merino until 1922 when they moved to Peetz. She graduated from Peetz High School in 1926, and attended Greeley Teachers College teaching school in West Plains.
Leatha married Raymond Hawkins on June 24, 1927 in Fort Morgan, Colo. The coupled moved to a farm in Nebraska where they lived until 1948 when they moved to Peetz. Leatha lived in Peetz until 1999 when she became a resident of MHC Extended Care.
She was employed at the Ayle Lumber Yard and as a Peetz postal clerk for several years. Leatha belonged to a Bridge Club, Women Involved in Farm Economics, Garden Club and the DOES of the Sterling Elks. She became a member of the Peetz United Methodist Church in 1929 and was active in the United Methodist Women.
Survivors include her grandson, Kenneth Fuehrer of Garden Grove, Calif; granddaughters, Vicki and Mike Neiman of Hastings, Neb., Lynn and Glen McKinney of Potter and Debbie and Jerry Souders of Sterling; great-grandchildren, Scott, Charlene and Lori Fuehrer, all of California, Jessica and Mike Kopejtka of Lincoln, Amanda and Lance Votruba of Omaha, Adam Hanson of Sterling and Nathan McKinney of Potter and great-great-grandchildren, Douglas and Natasha Kopejtka of Lincoln.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers; one sister; husband, Raymond; daughter, Donna Fuehrer and son-in-law, Bernie Fuehrer.

Gereld William Boyer 1934-2001

Gereld William Boyer, 69, Sterling, Colo., died June 12, 2004 in Sterling. Memorial service will be Thursday, June 17 at 10 a.m. at the Chaney-Reager Funeral Home in Sterling with Rev. Leonard Suhr officiating. Inurnment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney at 1 p.m.
Gereld “Buzz” Boyer was born Dec. 1, 1934 in Stapleton, Neb., the son of Gerald and Mildred (Elliott) Boyer, Sr. He graduated from Stapleton High School and served in the U.S. military.
Gereld married Nellene Waddell on May 11, 1961 in Georgia.
He was an electrician for 35 years and lived in Sterling for 18 years working as an electrician at Northeastern Junior College.
Survivors include his wife, Nellene Boyer of Sterling; sons, Ray Boyer of Laramie, Wyo., Ricky Boyer of Oregon City, Ore., Barry Boyer of Pine Bluffs, Wyo. and Thomas Boyer of Sterling; daughter, Debra Boyer of Sterling; brothers, Jim Boyer of North Platte and Tim Boyer of Brea, Kent. and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Marlene Boyer.

Joe W. Haugan 1915-2004

Joe W. Haugan, 89, a longtime Sidney resident, died early Monday morning, June 14, 2004 at Memorial Health Center in Sidney. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today at St. Patrick’s Church with Fr. Jim Novakowski officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. A Christian Wake service was held Wednesday at St. Patrick’s Church. Memorials may be made to the St. Patrick’s Church in Sidney.
Joseph Walter Haugan was born Jan. 13, 1915 at Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Charles and Margaret (Tholl) Haugan. He was married to Nancy T. Doherty on Dec. 26, 1939 at West Collingswood, N.J. They moved to the midwest, finally settling in Sidney in 1949. Joe worked at the Municipal Airport for many years. Following his retirement Joe enjoyed golf, air shows, and dabbling in the stock market. His wife Nancy died July 2, 1986.
Survivors include his sons, Tom and wife Audrey of Virginia and Jody Haugan of Sidney; four grandchildren, Kurt and Holly of Arizona, Joseph and Nan of Virginia.
Gehrig Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Glenn R. Sutton 1917-20004

Glenn R. Sutton, 86, a Sidney carpenter for over 50 years, died Saturday, June 19, 2004 at Memorial Health Center in Sidney. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 23 at St. Patrick’s Church with Fr. Jim Novakowski officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney with Military Graveside Honors by American Legion Post 17, VFW Post 610 and DAV Chapter 40. A Christian Wake service will be held at 7 p.m. today at St. Patrick’s Church. The family has designated either Memorial Health Center or St. Patrick’s Church as the memorials. Friends may call at the funeral home from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today.
Glenn Ralph Sutton was born Nov. 22, 1917 at the family home southeast of Rushville, Neb. near Smith Lake, the son of Ray and Mabel (Wright) Sutton. He was the third oldest of six children. He was raised on the family farm and graduated from the 8th grade in the Rushville School. Glenn moved to Minatare, Lincoln and Gordon before entering the service. He entered the Army on Sept. 9, 1941 and served as a medic in the Philippines and New Guinea during WW II receiving the Bronze Star. He was Honorably Discharged on Nov. 9, 1945. On April 14, 1943 he was married to Irene E. Kruml in Chadron and to this union two sons were born. They spent the majority of their years in the Sidney area where he worked for various contractors from 1951 to 1976 and from that time until 2000 was self-employed. Glenn was a member of St. Patrick’s Church, past Commander and member of VFW Post 610 and the Carpenters Union.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Marilyn of McCook and Steve and Margaret of Sapulpa, Okla.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one sister Helen of Gordon, Neb.; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Irene in 1988, his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Gehrig Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Frieda Narjes 1912-2004

Frieda Narjes, 91, lifetime resident of the South Divide community, died June 23, 2004 at her home south of Sidney.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 26, at the South Divide Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Philip Found officiating. Burial will follow in the South Divide Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Lutheran Hour or the donor’s choice.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
Holechek Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Frieda Narjes was born November 8, 1912 at home southeast of Sidney, to Gus and Emma (Nienhuser) Narjes. Frieda attended country schools in Districts 26 and 56 and from 1922, attended South Divide Trinity Lutheran School through the 8th grade. She graduated from Sidney High School in 1931.
In 1934 she began working part time in the courthouse in the offices of the County Clerk, County Treasurer and the Welfare Office. In 1939 she began to work full time in the office of the Clerk of the District Court and did secretarial work for the County Sheriff for eleven years. On May 15, 1950, she left the courthouse to work for the law firm of Paul L. Martin and Lowell Davis and ensuring attorneys: Frank J. Mattoon, Gerald E. Matzke, Steven F. Mattoon and Todd Weber, working with the same firm until she retired on April 30, 1998.
Frieda was an active member of the South Divide Trinity Lutheran Church and was organist in her church for many years.
She was treasurer of the Cheyenne County Chapter of the American Red Cross during World War II, resigning in 1950.
She enjoyed yard work, especially flowers, and traveling.
Survivors include three brothers, Paul and his wife Evelyn, Alvin and his wife Gladys, and Edward all of Sidney and eleven nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sister Berniece; two brothers, Frederick and William, nephew Daryl Narjes and sister-in-law Naida Narjes.

Ronald Humphrey 1938-2004

Ronald Humphrey, 66, of Sidney, died Monday, June 21, 2004 at the VA Medical Center in Cheyenne, Wyo.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, June 25, in Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney with the Rev. Raymond Stokes of the First Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney with Military Honors rendered by the United States Navy.
Memorials have been established to the Jessica Humphrey Trust Fund, niece with Muscular Dystrophy.
Ronald Ray Humphrey was born June 8, 1938 in Kearney, Neb., the son of Frederick and Blanche (Heinzman) Humphrey. He attended grade school at Bronson and graduated from Sidney High School in 1956. He enlisted in the United States Navy immediately following graduation and made the Navy his home for the next thirty years, retiring in September of 1985.
While in the Navy, he served as an Aviation Machinist’s Mate Second Class of several aircraft carriers, including the Independence and anti-submarine carrier CVS-33 Kearsarge in the Pacific Ocean. He served many campaigns, including the 1960 Cuban Conflict, Lebanese Conflict, and the Vietnam War earning many medals, including four Good Conduct Medals and four National Defense medals. Ron never married and made the Navy his life.
Survivors include three brothers, Frederick Larry Humphrey and his wife Sheila of Brighton, Colo., Mike Humphrey and his wife Jackie of Hutchinson, Kan., and Randy Humphrey and his wife Wanda of Yukon, Okla.; one sister, Diana Bruns and her husband Raymond of Sidney; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters Carolyn Good and FayEtta Herman.
