Irvin D. Hopkins

LOVELAND, Colo. -- Irvin D. Hopkins, 77, died Thursday (Sept. 25, 2003) in Loveland, Colo.

He was born May 3, 1926, to Bert and Sarah (Blanke) Hopkins in Venango.

On Oct. 27, 1952, he married Irene McKain in McCook. He lived in Southwest Nebraska, farming and ranching, most of his life. He was the manager of the Palisade Grain Elevator for 10 years. He retired and moved to Loveland in 1988.

He was a veteran of the Navy Sea Bees.

He was a lifetime member of American Legion No. 318 of Loveland, BPOE Elks No. 1051 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 7028 of Palisade. He was also a 50-year-member of the Masonic Blue Lodge No. 216, AF and AM in Palisade and the Tehama Shrine of Hastings.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Eileen Cornell; one brother, Ardon Hopkins and brother-in-law, William Beezley.

Survivors include his wife, Irene of Loveland; one son, Arnold Hopkins and wife, Pam of Brea, Calif.; one sister, Illa Beezley; and one grandson.

Services were today, 2 p.m., with inurnment at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Fort Collins, Colo.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in his name to Irvin Hopkins Memorial Fund in care of Resthaven Funeral Home, 100 East County Road, Fort Collins, CO 80525.

Joseph P. Kellogg

BEAVER CITY -- Joseph P. Kellogg, 87, died Saturday (Sept. 27, 2003) at Beaver City Manor in Beaver City.

He was born July 11, 1916, to Oscar and Flora (Batchelor) Kellogg. He grew up in Furnas County. When he was 17 he moved to Idaho.

In 1936, he married Verna Wheeler in Haley, Idaho. In 1954, the couple moved to Nevada, where he worked in the silver and lead mines and farmed. The couple moved to Wendover, Utah in 1959, where he worked for Keeser Chemicals until he retired in 1978. Following retirement, the couple moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where they lived until 1983, when they moved to Beaver City. His wife died in 1993. He was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints of Lexington.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Verna; one son, Merwin in 2001; grandson, Kip in 1981; two brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include three daughters, Beverly and husband, Mel Bell of Wells, Nev., Carolyn Laura of Wendover, Utah, and Sheryl and husband, James Beckett of Concord, Calif.; one daughter-in-law, Janet Kellogg of Yuma, Ariz.; one sister, Permelia Morgan of Wapato, Wash.; special friend, Vora Thompson of Beaver City; 12 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Services are Wednesday, 1:30 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City with Jim Olsen officiating. Interment will be in Hendley Cemetery in Hendley.

Visitation is today, 1-8 p.m., and Tuesday, 9 a.m.-8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City.

Memorials may be given in his name to Beaver City Manor, the senior center or Good Samaritan Hospice and left at Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City.

Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City is in charge of the arrangements.

Deloras Cross Nickerson-Bunstock

Deloras Bunstock died in her home in Cedar Bluffs, Kan., on Sept. 29, 2003. The celebration of her life visitation will take place on Oct. 11, 2003, 1-4 p.m. at her home in Cedar Bluffs.

Deloras was born on Feb. 9, 1929, to Fred and Pearl (Mosley) Cross at home in Moorefield. She grew up on a farm east of Moorefield and graduated from Farnam High School in 1947. Deloras and sister, Audrey, sang for many occasions around the area. She married Gene Nickerson of Farnam in 1951. To this union three daughters were born; Candice Jean, Yolanda Dee, and Jackelyn Kim. Gene was killed in a farm accident on Aug. 25, 1955. Deloras and her daughters moved to Gothenburg, where she worked for NPPD until 1975. Deloras was a very loving and devoted mother to her three daughters.

On Dec. 27, 1975, Deloras married Richard Bunstock at Cedar Bluffs. To this union Deloras brought her three daughters and Richard, his son James.

To Deloras, living in Cedar Bluffs was like heaven on earth. The serenity and wildlife of the area gave her such joy. She loved working in her flower and vegetable gardens.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Theron and Roland; and a niece, little Kay.

She is survived by her husband Richard; three daughters, Candice (Paul) Arent of Loveland, Colo., Yolanda (Ron) Weimer of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Jackelyn (Pete Palek) Nickerson of Cedar Bluffs, son, James (Kerin) Bunstock of Lincoln, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren, one sister, Audrey Kotchwar, and a brother, Gordon (Gladys) Cross; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be sent to the Callahan Cancer Center, 1311 South Oak, North Platte, NE 69101.

Lannie D. Krutsinger

BENKELMAN -- Lannie D. Krutsinger, the sixth child of Louis and Doris (Wiggins) Krutsinger, was born Dec. 27, 1963, in Benkelman, his lifetime home, where he grew into manhood. He attended Benkelman Elementary School and graduated in 1982 from Benkelman High School. He was involved in all athletics.

His love growing up was being around the equipment and concrete work that was his fathers and later his brothers, Krutsinger Construction Co. He became an expert at running a backhoe and his creative talents were put to use by many people in the community. Being a perfectionist, he was always striving to please everyone.

His schooling took him to Milford Southeast Technical College and later to Goodland, Kan., where he graduated from Northwest Kansas Vo-Tech in auto body, his lifetime love.

Ronda Jean Jones became his bride on Jan. 22, 1994. They became the parents of three beautiful children, Kameron Louis, 7; Adalene Elizabeth, 3; and Keegan Lee, 14 months. Every man who has children becomes a father, but not all are a loving daddy. He delighted hosting the annual Father's Day fishing trip with his father-in-law, son, and this past year, his niece, Lexis Jones.

Krutsinger Construction was a large part of his life. He was an active Jaycee working on many projects. Golfing, hunting, fishing with his son, and wrestling with his children gave him great joy in his free time. Watching Husker football was a favorite pastime in the fall -- he loved the Big Red.

Lannie could create or repair anything, which made him a treasure to many of the older generation. He was always ready and willing to help those in need and generously donated his time to family and friends. Lannie's mark can be viewed throughout the community. He was a devoted husband, improving the homes in which his family lived. Adalene always said when anything was broken, "Daddy fit it." He was so special to all of his brothers and sisters, especially with his being the baby of the family.

Lannie left this earth, and his beloved family and friends, on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, at Dundy County Hospital in Benkelman at the age of 39 years.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Louis and Doris (Wiggins) Krutsinger.

He is survived by his loving wife and adoring children; parents-in-law, Ron and Jean Marie Jones of Benkelman; brothers, Dennis Krutsinger and wife, LaRue of Imperial, Kerry Krutsinger and wife, Cindy of Stratton, Bob Krutsinger and wife, Joan of Benkelman; sisters, Terril Conery and husband, Dan of Tennessee, Darlla Kerchal and husband, Rod of Benkelman,; grandmother, Velma Jones also of Benkelman; 13 nieces and nephews, Deidra Fields and husband, Kevin of Seward, Mike Knoles of Houston, Texas, Kriss Krutsinger and wife, Lisa of Kimball, Brad Krutsinger and wife, Susan of Peyton, Colo., Renae Rivera and husband, Rudy of Houston, Texas, Kassi Strawn and husband, Matt of Hobbs, N.M., Karra Meeske and husband, Karl of Champion, Molly Horner and husband, Trevor of Benkelman, Tyler Schneider and wife, Megan of Denver, Colo., Toby Schneider of Kearney, Katie Krutsinger and fiancee, Randy Partch of McCook, Jesse Schneider and Jodi Parman of Benkelman, Lexis Jones of McCook; and numerous other relatives, and friends.

Visitation will be Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, at Forch Funeral Chapel in Benkelman. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Benkelman with Rev. Norman Prather and Rev. Matthew Price officiating. Interment will follow services at the Benkelman Cemetery.

Memorials may be given in his name.

Arrangements are under the direction of Forch Funeral Chapel of Benkelman.

Doyle 'Big Zeke' Ruzicka

OBERLIN -- Doyle "Big Zeke" Ruzicka, 48, died Wednesday (Oct. 1, 2003) at Decatur County Hospital in Oberlin.

He was born Dec. 30, 1954, to George and Willa (Snider) Ruzicka in Denver, Colo. He was raised in Oberlin and attended Oberlin Elementary School and Decatur Community High School.

On July 7, 1990, he married Nancy Vath in Oberlin. They later divorced. He was an oil field driller.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Dennis Ruzicka in 1993.

Survivors include his parents, George and Willa Ruzicka of rural Oberlin; former wife, Nancy Ruzicka of Oberlin; three sons, Derek Ruzicka and Zeke and Zack Ruzicka of Oberlin; one brother, Darrel Ruzicka of Oberlin; and one sister, Georganne Johnson of Chadron.

Services will be Saturday, 3 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin with the Rev. Bill Duncan officiating. Interment is in Big Timber Cemetery in rural Jennings.

Visitation is Friday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m., and after 8 a.m., on Saturday.

Memorials may be given in his name to the American Cancer Society or the Doyle Ruzicka Memorial Fund.

Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin is in charge of the arrangements.

William James 'Bill' Johnson

William James "Bill" Johnson, 51, of Phoenix, Ariz., formerly of Hayes Center, passed away Sept. 16, 2003.

He was born Oct. 30, 1951, to Audley M. and Eleanor (Rathbun) Johnson in Hayes Center. He graduated from Hayes County High School in 1969 and was a graduate of the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. After graduation, he worked for the State of Nebraska as an auditor and later went into business with his brothers. In 1983, he moved to Colorado to pursue a career in real estate investment. In 1994, he moved to Arizona where he managed his own business as a real estate investor until his death. He especially loved to spend time with his grandchildren, family and friends, play a little golf and watch his Nebraska Cornhuskers. Although he wasn't as tall as he would have liked to have been, his caring nature and love of life made him a big man in our eyes. He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his loving wife, Jackie of Phoenix, Ariz.; his daughter, Shellie (Doug) Winder of McCook; five grandchildren, Shawn, Blake, Nicholas, Mathew and Racheal Winder of McCook; two brothers, Garry of Hudson, Colo., and David (Loretta) of Castle Rock, Colo.; four sisters, Estalene (Larry) Lewis and Aneita (Ken) Chandler of Keyston, Patricia (Tom) Peterson of Colby, Kan., and Peggy (Gary) Edwards of Hershey; and aunts, nephews, nieces and other family members as well as a host of friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Larry; one brother-in-law, Lowell Mathews and one sister-in-law, Carolyn Edwards.

Services are Oct. 5, 2003, at 2 p.m., at the Union Congregational Church in Hayes Center with the Pastor Fay Ann Blaylock officiating. Burial will be at the Hayes Center Cemetery. A memorial has been established in his memory to the Hayes Center Cemetery Association. The body was cremated.

Visitations will be with family and friends at the church after a private family service at the cemetery.

Irene (Stennette) Ogier

NORTH PLATTE -- Irene Ogier, 94, died Aug. 27, 2001, at Premier Estates.

She was born May 30, 1907, at McCook to Charles and Myrta (Morgan) Stennette. She graduated from McCook High School with the class of 1924. She worked for Elmer Kay, Clerk of the District Court, for two years, leaving to work for the Nebraska Department of Roads where she worked until 1937.

On April 24, 1937, she married Ramon A. Ogier. They spent their married lives in North Platte. In November of 1943, they adopted twins.

She was a 50-year member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Signet 55 Order of the Eastern Star, Beauceant, and the Shrine Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ramon; her son, Ray; one brother, LeVerne; and an infant sister, Ruth.

Survivors include her daughter, Joanne Kay and husband, Robert Carpenter of Denver, Colo.; two sisters, Edna Morris of Denver and Adelene Kvasnicka of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were at the North Plate Cemetery with John Riter officiating.

Memorials may be given in her name to the Mid-Nebraska Community Foundation, or the First Presbyterian Church in North Platte.

Correspondence will reach the family in care of her niece, Mrs. Marlyn Riter, 30440 Harvard Circle, Buena Vista, CO 81211.

Adelene Marie (Stennette) Kvasnicka

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Adelene Marie (Stennette) Kvasnicka, 84, died Sept. 1, 2001, at a Colorado Springs hospital.

She was born March 16, 1917, at McCook to Charles Huston and Myrta Alice (Morgan) Stennette.

On July 27, 1939, she married Donald A. Kvasnicka.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Leverne; and two sisters, Irene Ogier and Ruth.

Survivors include her husband, Donald; one son, Jerry; one daughter, Judi Atcheson; one brother, Les Stennette; one sister, Edna Morris; two grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services were at the Shrine of Remembrance "America the Beautiful" Chapel of Roses. Interment was at the Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Memorials may be given in her name to the American Cancer Society, 1445 North Union Boulevard, Colorado Springs, CO 80909, or to the United States Olympic Committee, One Olympic Plaza, Colorado Springs, CO 80909.

Correspondence will reach the family in care of her niece, Mrs. Marlyn Riter, 30440 Harvard Circle, Buena Vista, CO 81211.

Elsbeth M. Kasten

Elsbeth M. Kasten, 83, died Tuesday (Sept. 4, 2001) at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.

She was born Dec. 31, 1917, at Ludell, Kan., to Wilhelm and Elizabeth (Kastens) Stolte. She grew up at Ludell, and graduated from Atwood High School at Atwood. Following graduation she moved to Denver, Colo., where she attended business college.

On March 18, 1945, she married Eugene Kasten. They spent their married lives in Milwaukee, Wis. She worked as a secretary in Milwaukee for many years. Eugene preceded her in death on June 16, 1992. Following his death, she moved to Grant. She moved to McCook in 1997.

She was confirmed in the Lutheran Church on March 20, 1932, and spent her life in the Lutheran faith. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eugene on June 16, 1992; and 16 brothers and sisters.

Survivors include one nephew, Bruce Licht and wife, Lana of Palisade; one niece, Chris Stolte of Atwood; two sisters-in-law, Bethel Stolte of Atwood, Kan., and Berlene Stolte of Big Timber, Mont.; and one brother-in-law, Emery Sulhoff of Macon, Mo.

Services will be Saturday, 2 p.m., at the Herrmann Funeral Chapel in McCook with the Rev. Carl Pullmann officiating. Interment will be at the Highland Memorial Park Cemetery in Milwaukee . Memorials may be given in her name, and friend may call at Herrmann Funeral Home in McCook.

Herrmann Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
