Travis Allen Fisher

NORTH PLATTE -- Travis Allen Fisher, 24, of North Platte, died Tuesday (Sept. 25, 2001) at North Platte as the result of a motorcycle accident.

He was born Jan. 22, 1977, at North Platte to Allen and Linda (Sullivan) Fisher. He attended North Platte High School, and later worked on a steel gang and hired out with the Union Pacific Railroad in November 1998 as a conductor.

He was a member of the Professional Bull Riders, and United Transportation Union Local No. 200.

Survivors include his parents, Allen and Linda Fisher of North Platte; one sister, Andrea Weitzel and husband, Josh of North Platte; one brother, Shane Fisher of North Platte; grandparents, LeRoy and Ramona Fisher of North Platte, Charlene Sullivan of North Platte, and Leon and Mary Lou Sullivan of Omaha; a special nephew, Kaden Weitzel; and numerous local survivors including aunts, uncles and cousins. Services will be Saturday, 11 a.m., at the First Baptist Church in North Platte with the Rev. Larry Lang officiating. Interment will be at the North Platte Cemetery.

Visitation is today until 9 p.m., and Friday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte.

Memorials may be given in his name to the First Baptist Church of North Platte.

Carpenter Memorial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Nona M. Klein

BARTLEY -- Nona M. Klein, 93, of Bartley, formerly of Farnam, died Tuesday (Sept. 25, 2001) at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital in Cambridge.

She was born Oct. 27, 1907, at Gothenburg to Lewis S. and Lulu Alice (Anderson) Hayworth. She was raised in the Farnam area.

On Nov. 5, 1924, she married Louis John Klein at Oberlin, Kan. They farmed south of Farnam for 50 years. He preceded her in death on Jan. 10, 1975. In 1989, she moved to Fort Morgan, Colo., where she attended the First Christian Church. She returned to Farnam in 1997, and had been living near Bartley with her son for the past nine months.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Louis; one daughter, Ruth; three brothers, Melvin, Harold and Lester Hayworth; and two sisters, Margaret Iloy and Gertrude Bringelson.

Survivors include three sons, Russel and wife, Dorthy of Lebanon, Ore., Ross and wife, Evonne of Greeley, Colo., and Raymond and wife, Sue of Bartley; one sister, Darlene Klooz and husband, Clark of Sargent; one step-brother, Jim Hayworth of Omaha; 13 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and 11 step-great-grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday, 2:30 p.m., at the Blase Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg. Interment will be at the Farnam Cemetery.

Visitation is today until 9 p.m., and Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given in her name to the Cambridge Memorial Hospital. Blase Memorial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Wayne DeForest Upward

ARAPAHOE -- Wayne DeForest Upward, 82, died Wednesday (Sept. 26, 2001) at the C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Nursing Center at Arapahoe.

He was born Sept. 27, 1918, at Holyoke, Colo., to William DeForest and Ethel (Davis) Upward. He graduated from Arapahoe High School with the class of 1937.

He served in the Army Air Force from 1941 to 1945, during which he served three years in England where he received the Soldier's Medal for Bravery.

On July 1, 1944, he married Iris Fudge at Leicester, England. They moved to Arapahoe when he was discharged from the military. He owned and operated Upward Service Station until retiring in 1982.

He served on the Arapahoe City Council for 12 years, the Arapahoe Fire Department for more than 40 years, was a Boy Scout Troop Leader and Arapahoe Rotary Club member. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church where he served as Sunday School teacher, a Bishop's Committee Member and Senior Warden.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Lois Hardin; and one brother, Laurel Upward.

Survivors include his wife, Iris Davis Upward; two sons, Robert and wife, Stormie of LaGrand, Ore., and John and wife, Pamela of Fort Worth, Texas; one daughter, Elizabeth and husband, David Hendricks of Arapahoe; one sister, Maureen Newman of Denver, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday, 10 a.m., at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Arapahoe with the Revs. Barbara J. Petersen and Lawrence Jaynes officiating. Interment will be at Arapahoe Cemetery in Arapahoe. Military honors will be provided by the Veterans Organization of Arapahoe.

Visitation is today until 8 p.m., and Friday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., at Williamson-Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe.

Williamson-Wenburg Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Vaughn Meader

BEAVER CITY -- Vaughn Meader, 86, of Beaver City, formerly of Holbrook and Wilsonville, died Wednesday (Sept. 26, 2001) at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital in Cambridge.

He was born Jan. 9, 1915, in Furnas County to Charles Wesley and Mable (Sears) Meader. He grew up on a farm in Wilsonville and attended grade school at a country school.

On March 27, 1936, he married Vera Delores Dillon at Norton, Kan. He worked in service stations in Holbrook and Central City, Colo.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, most of which was spent in the Phillipine Islands.

He farmed for several years before moving to Holbrook where he managed the Holbook Telephone Co. He also owned the Holbrook Market and the Holbrook Locker. They moved to Fallon, Nev., where they lived for two years, returning to Nebraska where he worked for Becton Dickenson in Holdrege until his retirement. He has lived in the Beaver City Manor for three years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Delores; one son, Jimmy in 1969; and five brothers, Gordon, Glenn, Howard, Verle and Charles, Jr.

Survivors include three children, Connie June Sowards of Greenleaf, Kan., Charles Guy Meader of Johnson City, Tenn., and Vivian Joyce Rogers and husband, Gary of Beaver City; three brothers, Larry and wife, Ann of Anchorage, Alaska, Rich and wife, Sharon of Holdrege, and Lyle of Beaver City; one sister, Wilda Stanley of Wichita, Kan.; three sisters-in-law, Neva Stanley of Wilsonville, Evelyn Schleicher of Sutton, and Darlene Stanley of Wilsonville; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services will be Sunday, 2 p.m., at Lockenour-Jones Mortuary of Cambridge with Keith Theobald officiating. Interment will be at the Wilsonville Cemetery.

Memorials may be given in his name to the Furnas County Hospice.

Lockenour-Jones Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.

Ida Viola Brayton
Ida Viola Brayton of Aurora, Colo., formerly of North Platte, died April 20, 1997. She was 85.

She was born April 3, 1912, in Grand Island.

On March 2, 1931, she married Bert C. Brayton in Columbus. They lived in North Platte for more than 40 years.

Mrs. Brayton worked in the Western Auto Store for a number of years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and a past member of the Eastern Star Signet Chapter 55 of North Platte.

Surviving her is a sister, Mildred A. Webber of Elizabeth, Colo.; a brother, Alfred L. Bending of Longmont, Colo.; a sister-in-law, Olive Welsh of Anaheim, Calif.; and eight nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; an infant daughter; her parents; and a brother, Robert O. Bending.

A memorial has been established to the American Heart Association of Colorado, 1280 S. Parker Road, Denver 80231, or to the First United Methodist Church, 1600 West E, North Platte 69101.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Lux officiating.

Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. today at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.

Verdon "Swede" Croghan
BROKEN BOW — Verdon J. "Swede" Croghan, 72, of Broken Bow died April 21, 1997, at Jennie Melham Hospital in Broken Bow.

He was born Dec. 11, 1924, at Arnold to Raymond and Henrietta Neilson Croghan. He attended a country grade school and Arnold High School.

He was in the military from June 1945 to January 1947, and served with the occupational forces in Italy.

On Oct. 31, 1945, he married Roxie Thornton at the United Methodist Church in Arnold. They farmed in the Arnold area until 1949 when they moved to Broken Bow to farm. They were Dairy Herd Improvement supervisors for 16 years. He also worked at the Broken Bow Elks Lodge for a number of years.

Mr. Croghan enjoyed sports, hunting and doing needlework. He had most recently made caps for newborn babies.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Raleigh J. (Vicki) of Tacoma, Wash.; two sisters, Fern Russell of Lincoln and Mary Hardin of Arnold; four brothers, Dee of Boulder, Colo., Darold of Venice, Fla., Jim of Broken Bow and Paul of Carson City, Nev.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Govier Brothers Chapel with the Rev. Doug Jones officiating. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary, which is in charge of arrangements.

James A. Egner
James August Egner, 57, of North Platte died April 18, 1997, at Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.

He was born Feb. 10, 1940, to Clarence and Ruth Hall Egner at Falls City. He graduated from Cortland High School. Mr. Egner retired from Nebraska Public Power District after 30 years of service.

He was a member of the American Legion, the Elks Club and the Eagles Club.

Survivors include his wife, Frances of North Platte; five daughters, Shelley Boettcher and special friend Harold of Fairbury, and from North Platte, Mary Jae (Vincent) Alamea, Tonia Plunk and special friend Chuck, Roberta (Terry) Martinez and Sheila (Jose) Marquez; four sons, Mike (Laura) Egner of Joliet, Ill., James (Rebecca) Plunk and Joe (Lucrecia) Egner, all of North Platte, and Jon Egner and special friend Grace of Wilbur; a sister, Carol (Jim) Patton of Wilbur; two brothers, Joe (Elaine) Egner of Kenai, Ark., and Tom (Elke) Egner of Chula Vista, Calif.; 21 grandchildren, Michelle, Misty, TinaMaria, Jeremy, Jessie, Christopher, James, Tommy, Barbara, Matt, Tara, Benny, Francisco, Terry, Sarah, Anthony, Julia, MaKayla, LaTisha, Calisha and Jose James.

Christian Wake Services will be at 7:30 p.m. today at Adams and Swanson Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with the Rev. Bernard Berger as celebrant. Burial will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery with military honors graveside.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements, and at the church prior to services on Wednesday.

Ralph L. Lincoln
GLENDALE, Ariz. — Ralph L. Lincoln, 75, formerly of North Platte, died April 5, 1997, at his home in Glendale.

He was born April 6, 1921, in North Platte to Ray A. and Mildred Long Lincoln. He attended North Platte Public Schools, graduating from North Platte High School in 1939.

On April 6, 1941, he married Helen Macomber of North Platte.

He enlisted in the Army on Feb. 15, 1942, and served in the medical corps in the Pacific through the end of World War II. Mr. Lincoln worked at Montgomery Ward and became a store manager at age 28, and lived in several communities, including North Platte.

The last community with Wards was at Montevideo, Minn., where he helped establish the Montevideo Therapy Center for the rehabilitation of stroke victims. It is still in operation.

He was involved in civic organizations, including the Lions, Rotary and the Elks.

In January 1963, after 23 years with Wards, he and his family moved to Phoenix, where he began a career as a State Farm Insurance agent. After 30 years, he retired at the age of 70.

He was involved with Little League baseball and Pop Warner football.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Surviving him is his wife; a son, Robert L. of Phoenix; two sisters, Alice M. Goodsell and Marilyn (Donald) Hansen, both of North Platte; a brother, Ray (Beverly) of Albuquerque, N.M.; a grandson, Riley, and a granddaughter, Allie; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, Delbert; a grandson, Reed Lincoln; and a nephew, Bill Lincoln of Kearney. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.

Services were April 10, 1997, at Northwest Christian Church in Glendale. Burial was at Resthaven Park Cemetery in Glendale.

Joe H. Rudloff
BROKEN BOW — Joe H. Rudloff, 88, of Broken Bow died April 18, 1997, at Jennie Melham Hospital in Broken Bow.

He was born May 1, 1908, at Rock Valley, Iowa, to Henry and Anna Henningfeld Rudloff. He attended Whitney School near Whitney.

In 1935, he married Gladys Lux at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Crawford. He farmed and ranched in Sioux and Dawes counties until 1951 when they bought land in Custer County. After he retired in 1981, the couple moved to Broken Bow. Mr. Rudloff enjoyed traveling, fishing and boating. He was a member farm clubs and organizations and was an excellent horseman.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Robert (Gwen) of North Platte and John of Kearney; a sister, Mary Fritts of Denver; two brothers, Francis of North Platte and Herman of Whitney; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by an infant son; his parents; three sisters, Frances, Anna and Martha; and two brothers.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. MT Monday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Crawford with the Rev. Todd Philipsen officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow, which is in charge of arrangements.

Arthur G. Waller
GOTHENBURG — Arthur G. Waller, 75, of Gothenburg died April 21, 1997, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

He was born April 25, 1921, at Densmore, Kan., to Homer and Josie Griffin Waller. He served in the Navy during World War II. On May 15, 1947, he married Jean M. Griffin at Logan, Kan., and they moved to Gothenburg in 1949.

Mr. Waller was a mechanic for many years and for the past 30 years, he was a self-employed trucker in the area.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

Surviving him is his wife; a daughter, Connie (Craig) Brestel of Cozad; a son, Thomas of Gothenburg; a sister, Sarah Hawk of Lexington; three brothers, Jack (Virgie) of Reydel, Ark., Bill (Wilma) of Malvern, Ark., and Bob (Martha) of Cabot, Ark.; six grandchildren, Klorisa Withers, Thomas III, Krystal, Corby and Tyler Waller, and Carmen Dibbern; two great-granddaughters, Courtnee and Abby; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers, John and Thomas "Eddie."

Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Zion Lutheran Church in Gothenburg with the Revs. Nels Ritola and Rick Rehmert officiating. Burial will be in Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell.

Blase Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
