Josephine J. ‘Jo’ Reichstein
GOTHENBURG — Josephine J. “Jo” Reichstein, 79, died Jan. 23, 2001, at her home in Gothenburg.

She was born Sept. 4, 1921, to Joseph Carl and Blanche McClure Zimmerman at Blue Hill. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Blue Hill. She graduated from Blue Hill High School in 1940. In 1944, she graduated from Mary Lanning Memorial School of Nursing in Hastings as a registered nurse. After graduating, she enlisted in the Army Nursing Corps and served in the Philippines with the 34th Field Hospital caring for the Bataan March survivors. She was discharged in 1946, with the rank of 2nd Lt.

On June 22, 1947, she married Delbert A. Reichstein at Blue Hill. He preceded her in death on March 25, 2000. They moved to Gothenburg in July 1956. She was a nurse for the Ayres Clinic and later for Gothenburg Memorial Hospital and the Gothenburg Family Practice.

She was a member of the Registered Nurse Club of Gothenburg, PEO, United Methodist Church, the Women’s Circle, Cancer Support Group and the Diabetic Support Group.

Mrs. Reichstein is survived by a daughter, Debra (Russ) Minary of Louisville, Colo.; a son, Tom (April) of Yacolt, Wash.; three sisters-in-law, Miriam Reichstein of Vancouver, Wash., Evelyn Hamer of Longview, Wash., and Florris Zimmerman of Scottsdale, Ark.; six grandchildren, Tony (Val) Reichstein of Snoqualmie, Wash., Andy, Tim and Heidi Reichstein all of Yacolt, and Dax and Hunter Minary, both of Louisville, Colo.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Clyde, in 1989.

Memorials are suggested to the Gothenburg Senior Center or the United Methodist Church.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Fowler officiating. Burial will be in Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell with military honors by the Gothenburg Firing Squad.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Blase Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg.

Byron Rowley
LODGEPOLE — Byron Rowley, 83, of Lodgepole died Jan. 25, 2001, at Torrington, Wyo.

He was born Dec. 3, 1917, at Wauneta to Joseph and Agnes Waidley Rowley. He lived at Imperial as a boy.

On Aug. 28, 1940, he married Mary Edith Shepard of Belle Fourche, S.D. From 1943 to 1945, he received several medals of honor serving in the U.S. Army in Africa, Sicily and Italy. After his discharge in 1945, he moved his family to Paxton while working on the Kingsley Dam at Lake McConaughy. In 1946, he moved to Lodgepole to work for Union Pacific Railroad where he worked for 31 years.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church at Lodgepole and the American Legion. His hobbies were fishing, woodworking and gardening.

Mr. Rowley is survived by two daughters, Katherine (Kenneth) Hyatt of Torrington and Alice (Raymond) Mauch of Cheyenne, Wyo.; a son, Earl “Butch” (Eileen) of Dix; a sister, Josephine Harms of Paxton; two stepbrothers, Bill Flewelling of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Robert Flewelling of Los Angeles; 20 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife and his parents.
Memorials are suggested to the Lodgepole Museum.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney with the Rev. Lyle Schoen of the Lodgepole United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Lodgepole.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney.

Marcelino Sanchez
Marcelino Sanchez, 77, of North Platte died Jan. 25, 2001, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

He was born June 2, 1923, to Sixto and Maximina Tabares Sanchez at Omaha. He received his education in Omaha. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater.

On May 30, 1942, he married Mary DiBiase at Omaha. He was a mechanic for Mack Trucks in Omaha. In 1976, he was transferred to Denver as a service manager for Mack Trucks until his retirement in 1985, when he moved to North Platte. He was a member of the Catholic Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing.

Mr. Sanchez is survived by his wife, a daughter, Kathleen (Stu) Lauver of North Platte; four sons, John (Barb) of Cheyenne, Wyo., James and friend Mary of San Diego, Rick (Susan) of Boulder, Colo., and Mark (Neva) of Lincoln; a sister, Delores (George) Hembertt of Omaha; two brothers, Raymond (Jeannie) Sanchez and Joseph (Betty) Sanchez, all of Omaha; 10 grandchildren, Lisa, Michael, Tina, Debbie, Vanessa, Anthony, Melissa, Sarah, Lisa and Tyler; and five great-grandchildren, Noah, Eli, Gabriel, Dalton and Levi.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters and brothers.
A memorial has been established to the American Diabetes Association.
There will be a private family memorial service. The body will be cremated. Inurnment will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Fort McPherson.
There will be no visitation.

Audrey A. Braun
EUSTIS - Audrey A. Braun, 56, died June 1, 2001, at the Cozad Community Hospital.

She was born Jan. 7, 1945, at Lexington to Carl and Irma Hueftle Braun. She graduated from Eustis High School in 1963 and continued her education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

She taught at Kent State University in Ohio for 27 years. While at Kent State, she received her Ph.D. in fashion and merchandising in 1983. Following her retirement, she returned to Eustis.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and served on the church council for a brief time. She was also a member of several educational associations. During her life she was active and helped people in various capacities. For the past three years, she was limited in activities due to ill health.

Survivors include her mother; a brother, Carl (Karol Sue) Braun of Dubuque, Iowa; a niece, Jaymie (Tom) Oehler of Omaha; and a nephew, Ryan Carl Braun of Iowa City, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her father in 1977.

A memorial has been established.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Eustis with the Rev. Bill Waterman officiating. Burial will be in the East Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the church.

Lena B. Clark
LINCOLN - Lena Bertha Clark, 89, of Lincoln, formerly of North Platte, died May 31, 2001, at Homestead Health Care in Lincoln.

She was born Aug. 28, 1911, at Wellfleet to Michael and Mary Phillipie Ughrin. She graduated from Wellfleet High School and then moved to North Platte. She did housekeeping for the Hirschfelds for several years.

In 1935, she married Edward Leonard Clark in North Platte. They built the Bar-X Motel, which she operated until the early 1980s, when she sold it and retired.

Mrs. Clark enjoyed gardening, flowers, traveling, animals and her dog, Punky. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Altar Society.

She is survived by two daughters, Judy (Mel) Isley of Ceresco and Marlene (William) Laymon of North Platte; their father, Edward Clark of Lincoln; 12 grandchildren, Lisa (Johnny) Letts, Shelly (Art) Risley, Billy (Kim) Laymon and Cortney, Tiffany, Josh, Hunter, Holden, Jillian, Dallas, Brittany and Cairo Isley; six great-grandchildren, Jamie and Michael Laymon, Alexa and Christian Letts and Brier and Logan Isley; and many nieces and nephews

She was preceded in death by a son, Ronald E. Clark; her parents; seven sisters, Emma Neff, Anna Carlson, Rena Fletcher, Katherine Glaze, Mary Ellison, Genevieve Adams and Helen Zieger; and two brothers, Andrew Ughrin and an infant brother.

Memorials are suggested to the Lincoln Connection or Paws-itive Partners.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with the Rev. Richard Piontkowski Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the North Platte Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today and 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday at Odean Colonial Chapel and before services Saturday at the church.

Steven Gail Lorenzen
FREMONT - Steven Gail Lorenzen, 51, of Fremont, died May 29, 2001.

He was born in Fremont to Gail and Darlene Franke Lorenzen in July 7, 1949. He lived in several places over the last 20 years including Omaha, Denver, Phoenix, and North Platte. He had been living in Norfolk for the past year.

He had worked at AT&T, Mountain Bell and Northwestern Bell for about 20 years before working for eight years at Ross Perry Motors in North Platte. Most recently, he had worked for KOOI in Norfolk.

Mr. Lorenzen is survived by a daughter, Ashley L. Lorenzen of Omaha.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be at 11 a.m. June 11 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont.

Kathryn 'Katie' Lovelace
Kathryn "Katie" Lovelace of North Platte died June 1, 2001, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center. She was 87.

She was born June 6, 1913, to John and Marie Worster Schwabauer in Lincoln, where she grew up.

When she was younger, she worked in the beet fields in the Scottsbluff area during the spring. When she was older, she worked at Gooshes Mills in Lincoln.

On Jan. 6, 1936, she married Homer Leonard Lovelace at Seward. They lived in different Nebraska communities including Lincoln, Lexington and in 1953, they moved to North Platte.

As a child she was confirmed in the First German Congregational Church in Lincoln and had attended the Westfield Four Square Church in North Platte.

Mrs. Lovelace is survived by two daughters, Patricia (Robert) Schimek of North Platte and Connie (Robert) Runge of Sidney; four sons, Jack (Priscilla) and Gary (Sandy), all of North Platte, Ronald (Yvette) of Marino, Calif., and Michael (Lois) of Millington, Tenn.; 22 grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 16 stepgreat-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Claude Lovelace; her parents; three sisters, Marie Schwabauer, Marie Whitmarsh, and Amelia "Peggy" Schwindt; four brothers, John, John, Jacob and Herman Schwabauer; and a grandson.

Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Westfield Four Squares Church with the Rev. Jerry Skinner officiating. Burial will be in the North Platte Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today and 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Odean Colonial Chapel, and before the service Tuesday at the church.

Frieda A. Miller
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. - Frieda A. Miller, 92, of Englewood, Colo., died May 31, 2001, at Swedish Hospital in Englewood.

She was born Oct. 28, 1908, to Frederick and Thalena Gerdes Miller at Deshler. She lived in North Platte as a youth with her family. She became a licensed practical nurse and worked at the veterans hospital in Denver.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Englewood, the Ladies Aid of the church, the Morning Guild and the Cherrelyn Extension Club.

Survivors include a brother, Edwin Miller of Bellevue; four nieces, Phyllis Bell of Oklahoma City, Okla., Marjorie Draper of Englewood, Carol Stevens of Polk and Talva Brager of Santa Clara, Calif; five nephews, Philip Miller of Bellevue, Ronald Draper of Golden, Colo., Bill Draper of Aurora, Colo., Kent Miller of North Platte and Matt Thomas Davis of Portland, Ore.; great-nieces and nephews; great-great-nieces and nephews; and a great-great-great-nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Anna Draper and LaVerna Davis; and two brothers, George and Orville.
Memorials are suggested to the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 3695 S. Acoma St., Englewood, CO, 80110.

Services were June 2, 2001, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Englewood.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the North Platte Cemetery with the Rev. Ronald Draper officiating.

Adams and Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte is in charge.

Carl Woodrow Nielsen
Carl Woodrow Nielsen, 82, of North Platte died May 31, 2001, at the Great Plains Regional Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 30, 1918, on the Garfield Table west of Arnold to Christ and Katherine Hansen Nielsen. He attended rural school in the area and graduated from Gandy High School.

In May 1940, he married Darlene V. Ostrom and they owned and operated a farm at Arnold. They moved to Oregon in 1948, where they operated a gas station and grocery store. They returned to North Platte, where they owned and operated Nielsen's Grocery Store on Rodeo Road for a number of years.

Mr. Nielsen was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He was a talented baseball player and liked playing the harmonica with his brother. He was a part of the North Platte Living History and was an active volunteer at the senior center.

He was a gifted bowler, horseshoe player, an avid gardener, fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed playing cards with his family and taught horseshoes to elementary school children.

Survivors include a daughter, Diann D. (Loren) Rea of Moore, S.D.; a son, Dennis C. (Pat) of Moore; a brother, Albert C. (Nina Mae) Nielsen of North Platte; four grandchildren, Linda Rea (Terry) Gregory, Lauri Ann Rae, Lisa Rae (Carl) Edwards, and D. Carl (Janine) Nielsen II; five great-grandchildren, R. Alan and Matthew H. Campbell, Meagan M. and Bradley R. Gregory and Elaine R. Nielsen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Jan. 20, 1998; four sisters, Anna Gill, Christine Essley, Pauline Barnes and an infant sister, Christina Nielsen; and five brothers, Paul, Nels, John, Andrew and Christian Nielsen.

Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte with the Rev. Sandra Patterson of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time today at Carpenter Memorial Chapel.

Fred LeRoy Gilmore
BROKEN BOW - Fred LeRoy Gilmore, 44, of Miller died May 31, 2001, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

He was born Sept. 19, 1956, to George Otis and Dolores Maxine Mason Gilmore in Pawnee City. He moved to Merna in 1968 with his mother and brothers. He graduated from Anslemo-Merna High School in 1975, and worked at New Holland. In 1979, he served in the Air Force as a Med Air Evac until 1985. While enlisted, he was stationed in Japan, Florida and St. Louis.

In 1986, he moved to New Jersey, where he was a nurseryman for six years. He returned to Nebraska in 1991 and continued in the nursery business until 1994, when he started working at Marshall Engine. He worked there until October 1999, when he became disabled.

On Dec. 26, 1999, he married Rhonda Hoes.

Mr. Gilmore is survived by his wife; three daughters, Jaimee, Katie and Winnie, all of Miller; his mother of Merna; his father of Rockwall, Texas; and three brothers, Paul of Tucson, Ariz., Joel of Amherst and Kurt of Miller.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Dale; and his father-in-law, Ronald Hulme.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Miller Christian Church with the Rev. David Harder officiating. Burial will be in the Merna Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Inverson Memorial Chapel in Broken Bow and until noon Tuesday at the church.
