Dwayne L. Green

COZAD — Dwayne L. Green, 80, died Nov. 30, 2001, at Cozad.

He was born Nov. 3, 1921, at Haddam, Kan. He attended school in Chase County. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He lived in Cozad, Gothenburg and Lexington, and for the past 30 years made his home in Kearney. He had various jobs during his lifetime that included manager/buyer for alfalfa mills in Dawson County.

He married Arkilee West at Benkleman after his discharge from the Army.

Mr. Green was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and belonged to the Veterans Clubs of Lexington and Kearney.

Survivors include two sons, Clark (Cindy) Green of Essex, Iowa, and Keith (Joan) Green of Kearney; three grandchildren, Sheraton, Julie and Elliot Green; a sister, Geraldine Moore of Johnson; and two brothers, Dick of Fountain, Colo., and Clark of Fort Morgan, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lyle.

A memorial has been established.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the Berryman Funeral Home.

Evelyn M. Herndon

STAPLETON — Evelyn Mae Herndon, 76, formerly of Stapleton, died Nov. 30, 2001, at her home.
She was born Feb. 28, 1925, to Guy and Mabel Magnuson at McCook. She moved with her family to Stapleton when she was 1 year old.

In 1942, she married Fred Herndon at Tucson, Ariz. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Herndon was a member of the Edwin L. Magnuson Veterans of Foreign War Post of Stapleton 8258, the North Platte Ostomy Chapter and Retired and Senior Volunteer Program. She also volunteered at the Lincoln County Historical Museum. She loved her children and grandchildren and enjoyed game shows, puzzles and sewing.

Survivors include four daughters, Kay James of Omaha, Donice (Larry) Sheet of North Platte, Mary (Steve) Sweeney of Fort Collins, Colo., and Kathi (Jim) Pishna of North Platte; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Bob (Dona) Herndon; and many other relatives and friends including a special friend, Orville Bellew.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, a granddaughter, a sister and two brothers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the VFW in Stapleton or to the Great Plains Hospice.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Adams & Swanson Chapel with the Rev. Perry Edwards officiating.

Burial will be in McCain Cemetery in Stapleton.

The register book may be signed from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home.

Bonnie McConnell

Bonnie McConnell, 91, died Dec. 1, 2001, at North Platte.

She was born June 26, 1910 at North Platte to David E. and Jennie L. Gregg McDonald. She graduated from Maxwell High School and attended Kearney State College.

On May 29, 1931, she married Gordon McConnell in North Platte. They had lived in Hershey and Fort Collins, Colo., and most recently in North Platte. She taught school and was a food supervisor at Colorado State University in Fort Collins.

Mrs. McConnell was a member of the First Christian Church. She especially loved and enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include three daughters, Patricia (James) Jones of Eddyville, and Betty (Blaine) Runner and Jane (Robert) Runner, both of Ashby; a son, Bruce (Kay) of Arnold; 12 grandchildren, Gordon, Steven, Vernon and Gregg Jones, James Runner, Bonnie Quick, Ruth Fleecs, Douglas Runner, Jennifer Hayes, Lori Becker, Patti Schwarz and Clark McConnell; and 26 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1998; two sisters, Mable Clark and Margaret Marinec; two brothers, Verle and Kenneth; and two nephews, Dean and Dennis Clark.

A memorial has been established.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Steven Jergensen of the First Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in O’Fallons Cemetery west of Hershey.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel.

George Lee Nichelson

CALLAWAY — George Lee Nichelson, 87, of Callaway Nov. 30, 2001, at the Callaway District Hospital in Callaway.

He was born Feb. 13, 1913, at Callaway to John William and Phoebe Whitehead Nichelson. He attended school at Callaway, graduating from Callaway High School in 1932. Following graduation he farmed.
On May 23, 1934, he married Pearl Louisa Boyer at the Methodist Church Parsonage at Callaway. In addition to farming, the couple measured ground for the ASCS Office.

Mr. Nichelson attended the Callaway United Methodist Church, where he was a member for more than 70 years. He enjoyed fishing and pitching horseshoes, but mostly enjoyed helping people. He helped his neighbors by mowing yards and cleaning snow. He will be missed by his loving family.

Survivors include three sons: Robert (Patricia) and Jerry (Denise), both of Callaway, and Allen (JoAnne) of Rio Rancho, N.M.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife on Sept. 10, 2001; his parents; a sister, Ollie Marie Nichelson; and a brother, Howard.

Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church or the Nigel Sprouse Memorial Library.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Callaway with the Rev. Gerald Schwarz officiating. Burial will be in the Sand Valley Cemetery at Callaway.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Timm-Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Callaway.

George E. Boyer

George Edwin Boyer, 98, of North Platte died Feb. 4, 2002, at Linden Court in North Platte.

He was born March 19, 1903, at Randall, Kan., to Henry Calvin and Anna Belle Montague Boyer. He grew up in Nebraska, Wisconsin and Minnesota.

On March 18, 1926, he married Millie Irene Hayes at Belleville, Kan. They lived in Belvidere, Kan., and Fairfield before moving to the Ogallala and Brule areas in 1933 to 1945. In 1945, the family moved to a farm at Sutherland, living there until 1973, when they sold the farm and moved to North Platte. His wife preceded him in death in 1974 and he moved to Lloyd’s farm south of Sutherland for 24 years. In 1998, he moved back to North Platte.

Mr. Boyer is survived by two daughters, Irene Simpson and Betty (Phillip) Vasquez, all of North Platte; two sons, William (Marlene) of Minatare and Lloyd of Sutherland; 14 grandchildren, Harold (Nora) Simpson, Billy Dean (Michelle) Simpson, James Simpson, Steve (Debbie) Boyer, Tom Boyer, Tim (Robin) Boyer, Sally (Michael) Vasquez, Cindy (David) Einspahr, Dennis (Rita) Boyer, Barbara (John) Befort, Bernice (Irvin) Adams, Judy (Mike) Main, Lew Vasquez (and friend, Julie Woitalewicz), and JoJo Vasquez (and fiancee, James Beranek); 30 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ellen Bailey of Vacaville, Calif., and Thelma Guthrie of Chippewa Falls, Wis.; and other relatives.
He was also preceded in death by two young daughters, Ilene and Annabelle Lee Boyer; a grandson; three great-grandchildren; his parents; four sisters, Lavina McClain, Bea Miller, Goldie Wiler and Eva Pilcher; two brothers, Omar and Norman Boyer; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Boyer; and a son-in-law, Robert Simpson.

Memorials are suggested to the donor’s choice.

The body was cremated.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Odean Colonial Chapel in North Platte with Alfred Broady and John Wegter officiating. Committal service and inurnment will be in the Riverview Cemetery south of Sutherland.

Those wishing to sign the memorial book before the service may do so from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday or before the service Monday at Odean Colonial Chapel.

Robert Hynes

CRANSTON, R.I. — Robert Hynes, 63, of Cranston, R.I., died Jan. 28, 2002, in Miriam Hospital in Providence, R.I. He was the brother of Jane Dodson of North Platte.

He was born in Providence to John B. and Grace Crehan Hynes. He had resided in Cranston most of his life.

Mr. Hynes is survived by his wife, Clare of Cranston; a daughter, Deborah Parrillo of Cranston; a son, Dennis Hynes of North Providence; three grandchildren; a sister, Jane H. Dodson of North Platte; and two brothers, John T. of Anchorage, Alaska, and Paul E. of Smithfield, R.I.

Arrangements were by Romano Funeral Home in Providence, R.I. Mass of Christian Burial was Feb. 1 at St. Mary Church in Cranston. Burial was in St. Ann Cemetery in Cranston.

Lauriene E. Loudon

CALF CREEK — Lauriene Esta Loudon, 98, longtime resident of the Sandhills, died Feb. 2, 2002, at the Cherry County Hospital.
She was born March 22, 1903, at Hebron to Wynona Crawford and Elza Beason. The family moved to the Sandhills area June 10, 1910, from Wymore. She graduated from high school at Thedford in 1923 and attended summer school in Chadron. She then taught rural school south of Seneca.

On April 28, 1924, she married Vernon Louden at Mullen. They moved north of Thedford to Calf Creek where she lived the rest of her life.

Mrs. Loudon was a charter member of Does Drove 68 of Broken Bow.

Survivors include a son, Gene of Thedford; granddaughters, Nyla Gladwin of Sequim, Wash., and Sydney Mickelson of Chappell; a grandson, Ronald Verne of Thedford; great-grandchildren, Vernon James of Lincoln, Rebel and Brock Mickelson of Chappell; four great-great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Donna Loudon of Thedford; and nieces, nephews and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, LeOra; a son, Verne; her parents; a sister; and four brothers.
Memorials are suggested to the Thedford Hillcrest Cemetery or Broken Bow Does Drove 68.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the United Church of Christ at Thedford with the Rev. Linda Martin officiating. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Thedford.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. CST today at the church.
Mullen Funeral Home is in charge.

Ardene ‘Dean’ Muhleisen

Patty Muhleisen

MILFORD — Ardene “Dean” Muhleisen, 68, and Patty Muhleisen, 66, sister of Charles (Karen) Lukas of Hershey, died Jan. 30, 2002, in a traffic accident west of Lincoln.

Ardene “Dean” Muhleisen was born in Ayr to Louis and Emelia Flessner Muhleisen. He graduated from Blue Hill High School. He later retired from Burlington Northern Railroad.

On June 3, 1952, he married Patty Lukas at Blue Hill.
Mr. Muhleisen is survived by a sister, Marline Myers of Grand Island; three brothers, Clarence (Irene) of Blue Hill, LaVern (Madalynn) of Hastings and Burnell (Josephine) of Salina, Kan.
He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Bob Myers.
Patty Lukas Muhleisen was born in Pauline to Stein and Gladys Baker Lukas. She graduated from Blue Hill High School. She later retired from Southeast Community College at Milford as the manager of the book store.

Mrs. Muhleisen is survived by a sister, Donna (LaMoine) Brown of Montrose, Colo.; and brothers, Larry Lukas of Ravens and Charles (Karen) Lukas of Hershey.

She was preceded in death by a brother, John N. Lukas.
The couple are survived by two sons, David (Cindy) and Dan (Angie) of Lincoln; and four grandchildren, Adam, Jake, Alicia and Jason Muhleisen.

Memorials services were Feb. 3 at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward with the Rev. Wes “Bo” Baurneister officiating. Burial was in the Blue Mound Cemetery in Milford.
Volzke Mortuary of Seward was in charge.

Jacqueline ‘Jackie’ J. O’Connor

Jacqueline “Jackie” Joy O’Connor, 74, of North Platte died Feb. 3, 2002, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center.

She was born Jan. 20, 1928, to Ralph and Helen Ryba Wilson in Omaha. She graduated from Deuel County High School in Chappell in 1945, and St. Francis School of Nursing in Grand Island in 1948.

On Oct. 3, 1949, she married Michael O’Connor in Grand Island.
Mrs. O’Connor was a member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Union Pacific Old Timers Auxillary, Catholic Daughters, Alanon and the Eagles Auxillary Aiere 2839. She also volunteered at the Great Plains Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include five daughters, Mary (Jack) Schultz of Grand Island, Maureen (Jay) Gilliam of Omaha, Colleen (Ron) Vacek of Hastings, Kate (Bob) Spirk of St. Louis, Mo., and Sharon (Steve) Kramer of North Platte; three sons, Patrick (Carol) and John (Anne), both of North Platte, and Thomas (Kerry) of Grand Island; 25 grandchildren; four great-grandsons; and a sister, Betty Ann (George) Grim of Fort Worth, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a granddaughter, Molly Marie Welch; a grandson, Scott Allen Schultz; her parents, and a son-in-law, Donnie Hinrichs.

Memorials are suggested to the donor’s choice.

Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today at Carpenter Memorial Chapel of North Platte.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Richard Piontkowski officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Garden in North Platte.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Carpenter Memorial Chapel.
