Raymond R. Janssen

GOTHENBURG - Raymond R. Janssen, 90, of Gothenburg died June 6, 2003, at North Platte. He was born on Sept. 18, 1912, at Gothenburg to John and Katherine Keiser Janssen. He was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church. He married Irene Lauer on June 1, 1938, at Gothenburg. They farmed until retiring in 1978. Raymond was a member of American Lutheran Church and also actively participated at the Faith Chapel in Gothenburg. He enjoyed entertaining family and friends through the years.

Survivors include four sons, Romaine Lee (Pat) Janssen of McCook, Ron (Sandy) Janssen of Kearney, Verlin (Charolett) Janssen of Gothenburg and Allen (Sylvia) Janssen of Germany; two daughters, Marlys (Maurice) Benitah of LaJolla, Calif., and Deborah (Kent) Tyrrell Phoenix, Ariz.; a special friend, Zella Mae Sanders of Gothenburg; 14 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a brother, Wayne (Eileen) Janssen of Gothenburg.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Janssen on Jan. 1, 2001, his parents, a sister, Hazel.

Memorials are suggested to the American Lutheran Church or the donor's choice

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the American Lutheran Church in Gothenburg with the Rev. Steve Berke and Pastor Larry Viter officiating. Burial is in the American Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Blase Memorial Chapel.

Robert E. Ransdell

LEXINGTON - Robert E. Ransdell, 68, of Lexington died June 26, 2003, at the Tri-County Hospital in Lexington.

He was born Jan. 11, 1935, at Lexington to Edwin Clayton and Melrose Edena Young Ransdell. He was born with Learning Disabilities and attended school at South Central Developmental Center in Cozad. He then moved to Bethphage in Axtell and then to Holdrege for a time, returning to Lexington in August of 2000, where he lived at Plum Creek Care Center Assisted Living.

He enjoyed being with family, teasing and telling stories, attending church, where he enjoyed music and fellowship.

Survivors include his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dwight and Darlene Trautman of Johnson Lake; nieces, Joni and Ed Bennett and Cathy and Scott Sarnes, all of Lexington; nephew, Kerry and (Heidi) Trautman of Kearney; aunts, Vera McKee and Ruby Ransdell, both of Lexington; and uncles, Wayne (Helen) Young of Lexington and Muarice Young of Austin, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Shirley Trautman in May of 1994.

Memorials are suggested to the Lexington Volunteer Fire Dept.

A Memorial Service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian with the Rev. Caroline Vickery officiating. Burial will be prior to Memorial Service at Greenwood Cemetery for Family Only.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is in charge.

Ida Joann Semm

Ida Joann Semm, 72, of North Platte died June 26, 2003, at Linden Court.

She was born March 22, 1931, in Delmont, S. D., to Wolford Sr. and Ruby Otto Baker.

On March 25, 1968, she married James Semm in Yankton, S.D. She worked as a bartender for over 40 years, most of which were at the Platte Bar and at the Moose Lodge.

Mrs. Semm was a member of the Moose Lodge, the Eagles, and the Veterans of Foreign War Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband of North Platte; a daughter, Karen Honeycutt of North Platte; a son, Larry (Marlene) McDonald of Palm Coast, Fla.; a step-daughter, Julie (Doug) Emory; a step-son, Mike (Linda) Semm; all of Grand Island; two sisters, Lois Schroeder of Mitchell, S.D., and Sylvia Hester of Waterloo; a brother, Tom (Marilyn) Baker of Venice, Calif.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and a sister.

A memorial dinner will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Moose Lodge. A memorial has been established. Adams & Swanson Funeral Home is in charge.

Mary Elizabeth Mills
ARNOLD — Mary Elizabeth Mills, 77, of Arnold died July 29, 2003, at Sandhills Manor in Broken Bow.

She was born Oct. 18, 1925, to John and Anne Marie Lehmkuhler at the family home, west of Arnold. She lived in and around Arnold all of her life. After graduation from Arnold High School in 1944, she began teaching at the rural school in Mills Valley.

On Oct. 23, 1946, she married Lowell Mills. To this union, three sons were born. They made their home on the family farm in Mills Valley until moving to town in 1972. In the spring of 2001, they moved to Sandhills Manor in Broken Bow.

Mrs. Mills was a member of the United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women.

Survivors include her husband, Lowell; three sons, Gary (Margaret), Don (Barbara), and Lester (Sue); a sister, Thelma (Les) Vogel; a sister-in-law, Bernelda Lehmkuhler, all of Arnold; grandchildren, Shanna (Chris) Marshall if Gothenburg, Dustin (Becky) Mills, Darci Barnes, Nathan Mills, Elizabeth (Wayne) Bierman, Kellie Mills, Sarah Mills, Jamie Mills, George Mills, all of Arnold, Nicole Koubek of Colorado Springs, Colo., Lana (Tom) Valasek of Blair, Nancy Mills of Pueblo, Colo., and Gretchen Mills of Arnold; seven great-grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Lloyd and Henry.

Memorials are suggested to the Arnold School Foundation or the donor’s choice.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Arnold United Methodist Church with the Rev. Doug Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Arnold Cemetery.

The casket will not be opened at the church.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, at the Arnold Funeral Home.

Howard C. Neu
LEXINGTON — Howard C. Neu, 95, of Lexington, formerly of Sumner, died July 30, 2003, at Park Avenue Estates in Lexington.

He was born Dec. 8, 1907, at Washington, Kan., to George and Florence Freeman Neu. He attended country school in Kansas. In 1920, he moved with his family to Dawson County near Sumner.

On Feb. 4, 1933, he was united in marriage to Elma Johnson at Sumner. She preceded him in death on Nov. 7, 2001. Following Elma’s death, he moved to Lexington where he resided at Park Avenue Estates. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for a time at Laramie, Wyo., in the machine shop and in 1947 started his welding shop at Sumner retiring in 1972. He also sold Raleigh Products for several years. Following his retirement in 1972, he worked for the Sumner Village as well as taking care of the cemetery. He enjoyed inventing things in his shop as well as always having a big garden.

Mr. Neu was a member of the Sumner Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Laraine Neu of Kearney and Pat (Stan) Rasmussen of Lexington; a son, Roger (JoAnn) Neu of Kansas City, Mo; a brother, Cecil (Emily) Neu of Sumner; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by three infant sons; his parents; two brothers, Omer and Kenneth; and a sister, Velma.

Memorials are suggested to the Sumner United Church or the donor’s choice.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Sumner United Church in Sumner.

Burial will be in the Sumner Cemetery at Sumner.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington, which is in charge.

William R. ‘Bill’ Nowlin
SUNNYVALE, Calif. — William R. “Bill” Nowlin, 57, of Sunnyvale, Calif., formerly of North Platte died July 16, 2003, at his home in Sunnyvale, Calif.

He was born April 2, 1946, in Grand Island to Dean and Charlotte Powers Nowlin. He grew up and attended schools in North Platte graduating in 1964. He served in the U. S. Coast Guard. He graduated from the School of Notre Dame College in 1973.

Mr. Nowlin was employed by JST Sales America Inc, as regional sales manager in Cupertino, Calif. He was active in Cub and Boy Scouts and earned his God and Country award. He liked sports, football, baseball and was an avid golfer.

Survivors include his wife, Linda; a daughter, Cheri (Mark) MacArthur; a son, William (Debra) Nowlin; grandchildren, Connor and Logan Nowlin and Taylor MacArthur; his mother of North Platte; a sister, Karen (James) Ridgway of Box Elder, S.D.; and a niece, Sabrina (Mark) Chastain of Bellvue.

He was preceded in death by his father, grandparents and a nephew.

Prayer service was July 22, 2003, at the St. Martin Catholic Church Chapel in Sunnyvale, Calif.

Delwyn Victor Reed
GRANT — Delwyn Victor “Vic” Reed, 80, of rural Grant died July 29, 2003, at the Perkins County Community Hospital.

He was born Oct. 21, 1922, near Grant to Edwin and Bertha Gebhart Reed. He graduated from Perkins County High School in 1940. He joined the Army Air Corps during World War II and served from 1942 to 1946. In 1944, he was sent to Guam.

On March 9, 1943, he married Clarabel “Swaney” Swanson. They moved to their farm home southeast of Grant in 1947 and spent their entire married life there.

Mr. Reed was a member of the Grant Lions, the American Legion and very active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Glenda (Leonard) Taylor and Vicki (Rod) Snogren, all of Ogallala; a son, Dennis (Dorothy) of Lacey, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Grant United Methodist Church with the Rev. Delano Cunningham officiating. Burial will be in the Grant Cemetery with a military tribute by the Perkins County Veterans.

Bullock-Long Funeral Home in Grant is in charge.

Kirk Allen DePriter
NEWPORT, N.C. — Kirk Allen DePriter, 38, of New Port, N.C., son-in-law of Bonifacio and Rose Jurado of North Platte, died Sept. 27, 2003, at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill after a courageous and long-fought battle with leukemia.
He was born in California at Travis Air Force Base and was raised throughout the United States and overseas since his father was a chaplain in the U.S. Air Force. Graduating from Pine Forest High School in 1983, he went on to graduate from North Carolina State with a degree in industrial engineering. He then moved to Morehead City in 1987 and 1988. He was an environmental engineer program manager in the Environmental Compliance Division of the Naval Air Depot Cherry Point. He also achieved his professional engineering license for the State of North Carolina in 1996.
Mr. DePriter was a past president of the Morehead City Jaycees and was involved with many civic activities before his illness began in 1999. After he achieved remission from this first bout with leukemia, he was honored to be guest speaker at the dedication of the McConnell-Raab Hope Lodge in Greenville, and spoke at several conferences thereafter concerning his ordeal with battling cancer and how his faith in God sustained him through it all. He was involved with several ministries at All Saints Church, of the Anglican Mission in America. His battle with leukemia greatly deepened his personal faith in Christ, and also his commitment to witness to others in all areas that he was involved. He was active with the Carteret County Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society just shortly before his relapse in early April of this year. He had always been a faithful, long-term member of the WNB Club of Hearts.
Survivors include his wife, Annette Jurado DePriter; son, Seth Allen DePriter at the home; parents, Richard and Rhoda DePRiter of Fayetteville, N.C; sister, Cheri (Norm) McLean of Cocoa, Fla.; brother, John Marc (Tiffany) DePriter of Baltimore; niece and nephew, DeAnna and Sam McLean of Cocoa; and best friend, David K. Harries of Raleigh, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard “Rick” DePriter Jr.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at Glad Tidings Church in Morehead City with the Rev. John Grayson of All Saints Church officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City, N.C.

Donald L. Drury
CHATFIELD, Wis.— Donald L. Drury, 73, of Eau Claire, Wis., formerly of Stapleton, died Sept. 28, 2003, at Clairemont Nursing Home in Eau Claire following a two-year illness with cancer.
He was born Oct. 18, 1929, in Eau Claire, he graduated from Eau Claire High School in 1948, served with the U.S. Army in Korea, and received the Battle Star, Purple Heart and Combat Infantry Badge. After attending St. Paul Bible College from 1953 to 1956, he served Baptist Churchs in Canada until 1965, including doing social work in Portage LaPrairie, Manitoba, for a year. He then was lay supply pastor in Presbyterian churches in Blackduck, Mizpah and Kelliher, Minn., and in the Methodist Church in Vinton, Iowa, and the Presbyterian Church in Shellsburg, Iowa. From 1969 to 1972, he attended Dubuque Theological Seminary. He was ordained in 1973, and then served as pastor at the Chatfield, Utica and Lewiston Presbyterian Churches until 1987. He served Presbyterian churches in Goodland and Warba, Minn., and in Hastings, Handover and Stapleton. Following retirement in 1994, he served as stated supply pastor in Bancroft, for five years; was interim pastor in Lyons for a year; and was stated supply pastor at North Presbyterian Church in Eau Claire until retiring in 2001.
The Rev. Drury was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 305 of Eau Claire. He was married and divorced.
Survivors include a daughter, Beth (Dale) Lange of Rochester; two sons, Michael of Rochester and Patrick (Kathleen) of Geneva, Ill.; seven grandchildren; four sisters, Susan (Pat) Spellman of Hayward, Wis., Barbara (Lynn) Clough of Pahromp, Nev., Trish Franck of Omaha, and Linda Tompkins of Waukesha, Wis.; and a brother, David of Milwaukee.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Pioneer Presbyterian Church in Chatfield with Sharon Johnson executive Presbyter and the Rev. Timothy Gerarden co-officiating. Burial will be Friday at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield and an hour before the service Thursday at the church.

Gwendolyn Lemmon
Gwendolyn Lemmon, 67, of North Platte formerly of Cozad died Sept. 28, 2003, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.
She was born Oct. 25, 1935, at Boulder, Colo. She was the daughter of Donald Henry and Rosalie Evelyn German Lemmon. As a child she lived in Cozad and later years in North Platte. She worked at the North Platte Opportunity Center.
Survivors include her mother, Rosalie Lemmon of Cozad; a sister, Connie (Wayne) Lord of Sparta, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Donald; three sisters, Jean Seybold, Janis Lemmon and an infant sister; and an infant brother.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Cozad Cemetery with Norman Kujawski of Rock Haven Camp officiating.
Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore in North Platte.

Albert W. Myers
STAPLETON — Albert Wayne “Bud” Myers, 70, of Stapleton died Sept. 29, 2003, at Sutherland Care Center.
He was born June 25, 1933, to Arch D. and Pauline F. Pfister Myers in Stratton. He was drafted in the U. S. Army and discharged, Aug. 17, 1955.
On Sept. 9, 1956, he married Donna Mae Singley. He worked as a ranch hand until his retirement in 1994.
Mr. Myers was a member of the Nebraska Land Horse Association and the Quarter Horse Association.
Survivors include his children, Larry (Debbie) Myers of Stapleton, Betty (Tim) Baker of Hershey, and Judy Layher of Stapleton; nine grandchildren, Kayla (Frank) Kramer and Teejay Myers, all of Stapleton, Tanya (Jeff) Bomberger of Wallace, Melissa Salisbury, Christina Rice and John Rice, all of North Platte, Brad (Naomi) Layher, Jerry Layher and Stacy Layher, all of Stapleton; four great-grandchildren, Natasha, Dillon and Brandi Bomberger of Wallace and Alieha Salisbury of North Platte; two sisters, Arline Richardson of Palisade and Shirley Myers of Ogallala; three brothers, Don (Charolette) of Hamlet, Bob (Dode) of Indianola and Roger (Charlene) of Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Charles Michael Layher; two sisters, Bonnie Ferguson and Hazel Myers; and a brother, John Myers.
A memorial has been established to Sutherland Care Center or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Stapleton Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Bob Andersen officiating. Burial will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, south of Maxwell, with military honors graveside by Stapleton Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home, which is in charge and prior to service time at the church on Thursday.

Nickoleta Regas
Nickoleta “Nikky” Regas, 86, of North Platte died Sept. 30, 2003, at her home.
She was born March 17, 1917, to Nicholas and Georgia Derezotes at Omaha. She was raised in Chicago.
On Nov. 14, 1937, she married Chris D. Regas in Lincoln. He preceded her in death Aug. 3, 1977. They moved to North Platte where they owned and operated the Coney Island Café for many years. She and her husband were very active in feeding the troops that came through on the trains, during World War II from their café. She enjoyed reading, baking, crocheting and playing the slot machines.
Survivors include two daughters, Georgia Regas and Helen (John) Charbonneau, all of North Platte; a son, Jim (Candee) Regas of Centennial, Colo.; three grandchildren, Troy (Debra) Regas of North Platte, Christopher Regas of Centennial, and Becky Rappeport of New York; three great-grandchildren, Maggie, Heather and Ellie, all of North Platte; and a sister, Helen Trapp of Simi Valley, Calif.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and five brothers.
A memorial has been established to the Callihan Cancer Center.
A rosary will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Adams & Swanson Funeral Chapel.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Adams & Swanson Chapel with the Rev. Richard Piontkowski officiating.
Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today and from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home.
