Jim Erlewine
Grant — Jim Erlewine, 58, of Grant died Dec. 4, 2003, near Grant.
He was born July 24, 1945, at Grant to Clarence and Jessie Cornelius Erlewine. He grew up northwest of Grant and graduated from high school in 1963. He began working for the Grant Co-op until 1966 when he joined the U.S. Army. He served in Viet Nam, where he was wounded. He was discharged in 1968.
On Feb. 20, 1971, he married Reeka Thaden in Grant. He continued working for the Co-op until 1980 when he began working for the State Department of Roads. He also helped on nights and weekends at DJ’s bar and grill.
Survivors include his wife; a sister, Helen (Byron) Nelman of Lake Maloney; and two brothers, Darrell (Beverly) of Tucson and Roy (Pam) of Lincoln.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Grant United Methodist Church with the Rev. Sally Ruggia-Haden officiating. Burial will in the Grant Cemetery with military tribute by the Perkins County Veterans.
Bullock-Long Funeral Home is in charge.

Bonita Valette Binegar
SUTHERLAND — Bonita Valette Binegar, 96, of Sutherland died Feb. 11, 2004, at Linden Court in North Platte.
She was born June 5, 1907, at DeWitt, to Albert Sydney and Cora Lee Kennedy Plucknett. She grew up on the family farm near DeWitt and went to country school. She graduated in 1924 from DeWitt High School and then taught country school near DeWitt for several years. She went to Peru State Teachers College at Peru before teaching at Cortland, and taught there until 1937 when she moved to Sutherland, and taught from 1937 to 1941.
On June 11, 1941, she married Everett William Binegar at her parent’s farm near DeWitt. They lived outside Sarben for two years, then bought a farm west of Sutherland. Everett died in September 1967 and she lived on the farm until the fall of 1968 when she moved into Sutherland and lived there since.
Mrs. Binegar was an 82-year member of the Methodist Church, belonged to United Methodist Women, Bible study, Sutherland Woman’s Club, Eastern Star for 72 years, Glenburnie Extension Club for 45 years, had been a 4-H leader, served on the Sutherland Library board, and enjoyed playing bridge and pinochle.
Survivors include four daughters, Jean (Robert) Moore of Kuna, Idaho, Janice (Garen) Sailors of Chandler, Ariz., Jane (Milan) Moore of Sutherland and Joyce (Rodney) Meyen of Cheyenne, Wyo.; 14 grandchildren, Kathy Moore of Montrose, Colo., Pam (Richard) Rose of Caldwell, Idaho, Kim Moore and Bob Moore, both of Boise, Idaho, Christine (Kent) Veldhuizen of Phoenix, Shannon (Todd) Brichacek of Green River, Wyo., Stephanie Underhill and Scott (Tausha) Sailors, both of Phoenix, Jon (Terri) Moore and Tania Moore, both of Lincoln, Tara (Matt) Naughtin of Sutherland, Angela Meyen of Henderson, Nev., Justin (Riley) Meyen of Laramie, Wyo., and Erin Meyen of Cheyenne; 22 great-grandchildren, Jake, Ashley, Eric, Alex, Taylor, Jaime, Hanna, Tanner, Skylar, Justin, Alexis, Tatum, Ryan, Isaiah, Elijah, Dominic, Bonnie, Maverick, Tyler, Austin, Justin, and Merek; a sister-in-law, Evaline Plucknett of Lexington, Ky.; and a brother-in-law, W.J. Wooden of Sutherland.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Dorothy Elwood and Eleanor Crosier; a brother, William Plucknett; and a grandson, Tommy Joe Meyen.
Memorials are suggested to the Sutherland United Methodist Church and the Sutherland Senior Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sutherland United Methodist Church with Karl Lent officiating. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery south of Sutherland.
Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore and before the service at the church on Saturday.

George V. Yanken
George V. Yanken, 88, longtime Maxwell resident died Feb. 12, 2004, at his North Platte home.
He was born Aug. 6, 1915, to Vernia and Leona Kelley Yanken in Maxwell, where he attended school at Maxwell.
On Feb. 12, 1938, he married Opal Nickerson in Lexington. He was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad for 40 years, retiring in 1975. They moved to North Platte in 1989.
Mr. Yanken served many years on the Maxwell Village Board and the Maxwell School Board. He was on the volunteer fire department for many years in Maxwell, where he also attended the Assembly of God Church. He enjoyed his yard work and flowers.
Survivors include his wife of North Platte; two daughters, Darlene (William) Shaw of Broken Bow and Delores (Robert) Jaenicke of North Platte; two sons, Joe (Vernita) of Dublin, Ga., Dale (friend, JoAnn) of Grand Island; 20 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Esther Evarts of North Platte; brother-in-law, Vern (Veda) Nickerson of Maxwell; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Esther Brown; a brother, Leonard Yanken; and a granddaughter, Susan Yanken.
Memorials are suggested to the First Assembly of God Church in North Platte or Great Plains Regional Medical Center Hospice and Home Health.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Assembly of God Church in North Platte with the Rev. Gary Goodwin officiating. Burial will be at the Plainview Cemetery at Maxwell.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel.

John Berton ‘J.B.’ Simon
SCOTTSBLUFF — J.B. Simon, 65, passed away Monday, March 29, 2004, at the Heritage Healthcare facility after a long bout with Multiple Sclerosis.
John was born July 14, 1938 in Scottsbluff, to Grace May and Edward Simon. He attended Roosevelt Elementary and graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 1956. He worked with his family as a house mover. He served in the Army at Fort Carson, Colo., from 1961 to 1963. He moved to North Platte and worked for the James E. Simon Construction Company.
On Dec. 9, 1967, he married Sandy Jorgenson and had daughters, Kendra and Lisa. They made their home in North Platte and later in Hershey. In 1972, the family moved to Spearfish, S.D., and J.B. was the foreman on the building of the Holiday Inn of the Northern Black Hills. Later back to Hershey and in 1974, moved to Scottsbluff where he was the project foreman on the Scottsbluff Country Club and returned to Hershey to work and received his pilot’s license. In 1982, J.B., Sandy, and Lisa moved to Scottsbluff where J.B. took over the position of manager of the Simon Construction Company of Scottsbluff. He oversaw several construction projects in the area, including the award winning reconstruction of the tunnels on the Scotts Bluff Monument. Due to Multiple Sclerosis in 1994, he was forced to retire.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 163. He loved riding his golf cart around his home, fishing in the lake, watering the trees and mowing on the old Ford tractor. He had a zest for life and lived it to the fullest, having fun with his friends and being ornery even though his health slowed him down. Even through his illness he loved being the coordinator of his high school reunions and being able to see all of his old friends from high school. He loved telling stories of growing up with his brothers and sisters, going boating, and traveling south to the warm weather for vacations. He enjoyed the time he spent with his wife, daughters and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Sandy; daughter, Kendra (Brian) Feather; daughter, Lisa Simon; and grandchildren, Mindy, Jeremiah, J.B. and Riley. He is also survived by sisters, Esther (Ralph) Johnston and Edna May (Bob) Lofing, of Scottsbluff; brothers, James (Judy) Simon of Laramie, Wyo., Kenneth (Rita) Simon of Anchorage, Alaska, Cecil (Dorothy) Simon of North Platte, Howard (Billie Jean) Simon and Eddie Simon, both of Scottsbluff; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by brother-in-law, Gordon (Deanna) Jorgenson and family; sister-in-law, Linda Wilson and family; and special friends, Stan and May Propp of Minatare, Keith and Ginger Towne of Gering, Punk and Barb Ebberson of Minatare; and many others that called and visited often to see how he was doing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert; and nephews Steve, Rick, Greg and Allan.

Services will be at the Grace Chapel in Scottsbluff Friday, April 2, 2004, at 10 a.m. with Mick Hessler officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff with military honors.
Visitation will be today at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel from 5 to 8 p.m.

Sonya ‘Tony’ Copeland
LONG BEACH, Miss. — Sonya “Tony” Copeland of Long Beach, Miss., mother of Liza Peden of Cozad, died Jan. 9, 2001, at Kiln, Miss. She was 64.
Survivors include four daughters, Diane Jones of Pass Christian, Miss., Lou Ann Howard of Anderson, Ind., Pammy Williams of Kiln and Liza Peden of Cozad; a brother, Lee Eldridge of Anderson, Ind.; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Mrs. Copeland was preceded in death by her husband, William “Dick” Copeland.
Memorials are suggested to the Children’s Miracle Network in care of any Wal-Mart store.
Private services are planned with Riemann Funeral Home of Bay St. Louis, Miss., in charge.

Twila S. ‘Tiny’ Kruger
FREMONT — Twila S. “Tiny” Kruger, 70, died Jan. 10, 2001, at the Fremont Area Medical Center.
She was born Sept. 20, 1930, in Lemoyne to Herbert and Elizabeth Leach. She attended school in the North Platte area and graduated from the University of Nebraska School of Agriculture at Curtis in 1948.
She married Art Grasz in North Platte. They later divorced and she moved to Fremont in 1957, where she worked for various restaurants.
On May 10, 1960, she married William “Bill” Kruger in Clarks. She worked at Mode-O-Day in the 1960s. In the early 1970s, she was a buyer for Tempo Stores and later was a sales representative for Avon, Sarah Coventry, Shaklee and Watkins.
She helped start the Worlds of Learning Literacy Program. She taught Sunday school at Fremont Alliance Church and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 1504. She was an avid bowler and was recently inducted into the Bowler’s Hall of Fame.
Mrs. Kruger is survived by three sons, Hollis (Carol) Grasz and Tom (Roxy) Kruger, both of Fremont, and Tim (Yong) Kruger of Osan, Korea; three sisters, Treva Lynes, Lela (Myron) Morash and Genevieve (Delbert) Tobey, all of North Platte; a brother, Ebert (Char) Leach of North Platte; and grandchildren, Eric Kruger of Osan, and Andy and Holly Grasz, and Shauna, Chris and A.J. Klein, all of North Platte.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Vaunita Grasz, and a brother, Gailen Leach.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or the Kidney Foundation of Nebraska.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Rozanek and Son Colonial Chapel in Fremont with the Rev. Phil Ronzheimer officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Rozanek and Son Colonial Chapel in Fremont.

Alyne Murphy
ANSELMO — Alyne Murphy, formerly of Anselmo, died Jan. 12, 2001, in Lincoln. She was 82.
She was born Oct. 28, 1918, at Anselmo to Fred G. and Jennie C. Parkison Lindly. She grew up at Anselmo and graduated from Anselmo High School in 1937. After her schooling, she lived in the Custer and Lincoln county areas.
On July 8, 1941, she married Donald F. Wood. He died in 1961.
On Sept. 28, 1973, she married John S. Murphy at Reno, Nev. They lived in California. He preceded her in death in 1983.
In May 1989, she returned to Nebraska and lived on the family farm near Anselmo. She then made her home at Liberty Square in Broken Bow. She later moved to Lincoln to be near her son.
Mrs. Murphy had joined the Baptist Church at an early age and had also been a member of the Eastern Star at Broken Bow.
She is survived by a son, James (Hoang) Wood of Lincoln.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Wilma Switzer; and two brothers, James and Lawrence Lindly.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Grand View Cemetery near Anselmo with the Rev. Doug Jones officiating.

George Pfister
LEXINGTON — George Pfister, 87, of Lexington died Jan. 11, 2001, at the Tri-County Hospital in Lexington.
He was born July 7, 1913, at Eureka, Ill., to John and Lydia Rinkenberger Pfister.
Mr. Pfister married Glenna Getz on July 23, 1939, at Tremont, Ill. The couple moved to Lexington in 1943. He was a partner in the Central Alfalfa Company.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Steve of Overton and Barry (Paula) of Lexington; a brother, Arthur Pfister of Peoria, Ill.; two grandchildren, Ted and Lauren Pfister of Lexington; and three stepgrandchildren, Gary, Justin and Ryan Thomalla.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and two brothers.
Memorials are suggested to the Berean Church, the Grand Generation Center or the Lexington Volunteer Fire Department.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Lexington Berean Church with the Rev. Wes Hitchcock officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery prior to services.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington.

Tim G. Shively
OVERTON — Tim G. Shively, 58, of Overton died Jan. 11, 2001, at the Veteran’s Hospital in Omaha.
He was born April 24, 1942, at Bayard to Harvey and Rosalie Burr Shively. He graduated from St. Francis (Kan.) High School in 1959. He then entered the U.S. Army and served from June 1959 to June 1962. Following his military discharge, he attended McCook Junior College.
On June 24, 1972, he married Connie Junker at Indianola.
Mr. Shively received his degree from Kearney State College in 1974. The couple made their home in Overton the last 22 years. Prior to that, they lived in Lexington for four years and at Indianola. He worked for Valley Sales prior to being bookkeeper for BHA for the past seven years.
Anyone who knew him knew of his love for the Chicago Cubs. Although most seasons the Cubs were a disappointment, he was always there cheering them on. He loved spending time with his family and especially enjoyed his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Cindy Shively and her fiance, Matt Johnson, both of Hope, Minn.; three sons, Tom of Overton and his fiance, Sara Long of Lexington, Rich (Shelley) of Overton and Travis and his fiance, Mandie Bacon, both of Kearney; a sister, Rosemary Andres of Estes Park, Colo.; a brother, Jim (Linda) Shively of Mesa, Ariz.; and two grandchildren, Chloe Shively and Courtney Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Tommy and Jay; and two sisters, Janice and Marie.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Wake services will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Overton.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Overton with the Rev. Neal Nollette officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Overton Cemetery.
Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is in charge.
