Laynie Dae Votaw, infant daughter of Mark Votaw and Cindy Cox, died Jan. 12, 2001, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center.
Private family graveside services are planned.
Carpenter Memorial Chapel is in charge.

Rick L. Wiedeman
CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Rick L. Wiedeman, 47, of Cheyenne, Wyo., died Jan. 11, 2001, at United Medical Center-West.
He was born Dec. 4, 1953, to Robert and Frieda Wiedeman in Scottsbluff.
On Aug. 10, 1974, he married Lynnette Smith in North Platte.
Mr. Wiedeman was a conductor for Union Pacific Railroad. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and the United Transportation Union.
Surviving him is his wife; two daughters, Loree and Stacey Wiedeman, both of Cheyenne; his mother and stepfather, Frieda and Gilbert Dike of Kingman, Ariz.; and a stepbrother, Marvin Dike of Kingman.
He was preceded in death by a son, Tyson; his father; and a stepsister, Carol Braden.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Cheyenne with the Revs. Janet Forbes and Blaine Scott officiating.
Schrader Funeral Home of Cheyenne is in charge.

Orvel E. Woodward
KEARNEY — Orvel E. Woodward, 93, of Kearney died Jan. 12, 2001, at the Mother Hull Home in Kearney.
He was born Dec. 1, 1907, at Arnold to Herman D. and Ella Nicholson Woodward.
On Feb. 8, 1943, he married Lula Agnes Woodward in North Platte.
Mr. Woodward was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Kearney. He and his wife raised 48 foster children and were presented with the Sertoma Club Service to Mankind Award in 1982 for outstanding work caring for foster children. He was an Admiral in the Great Nebraska Navy and a member of the Sodhouse Society.
Surviving him is his daughter, Jane Schuster of Kearney; two sons, Josiah and William Woodward, both of Kearney; three sisters, Arle Olson of Arizona, Dorothy Anderson of Spearfish, S.D., and Juanita Winters of Rapid City, S.D.; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife on Nov. 10, 1997; a daughter, Annabel Tompkin in 1992; three sisters; and two brothers.
Memorials are suggested to the Mother Hull Home in Kearney.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at The First Church of the Nazarene in Kearney. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. in Rose Hill Cemetery at Callaway. The Revs. Jack Atteberry and Frank Parrington will officiate.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, with family receiving friends from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary in Kearney, or prior to services Wednesday at the church

Ardis I. Corder
ELWOOD — Ardis Corder, 84, died Jan. 12, 2001, at Elwood.
She was born May 12, 1916, at Elwood to Earl and Carrie Harm Salisbury. She was raised on a farm near Elwood and graduated from Elwood High School in 1933. She attended Kearney State College and later she taught rural school in Gosper County.
On March 20, 1940, she married Rex Corder and they lived on a farm south of Elwood. Following their retirement in 1976, they moved to Elwood. Her husband died in 1998.
She was a member of the First Christian Church for more than 65 years and was a longtime member of the Pleasant Hill Club. She enjoyed sewing and cooking.
Mrs. Corder is survived by two daughters, Barbara (Lowell) Gering of Johnson Lake and Kerrilyn Symington of McCook; a son, Royce (Sharon) Corder of Elwood; a sister, Elizabeth (Floyd) Pfieffer of Lexington; six grandchildren, Robyn (Andy) Weismann, Brenda (Kendall) Weyers, Darin (Jill) Corder, Kirk Corder and Brian and Chris Symington; and two great-grandchildren, Montgomery Corder and Ryan Weyers.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Doris Schroeder and three brothers, Lynn, Vernon and Delmar.
Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church or the Gosper County Senior Center.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Christian Church in Elwood with the Rev. Ginny Hill officiating. Burial will be in the Elwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at the Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad.

Shiela ‘Shi’ Alice Gambs
Shiela “Shi” Alice Gambs, 92, of North Platte, died Jan. 13, 2001, at her home.
She was born on Sept. 2, 1908, in Mystic, Iowa, to Arthur and Catherine Young Seddon. She grew up in Mystic where she attended school and graduated in 1925. After graduation, she attended Iowa Normal School in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
On Sept. 5, 1936, she married Clifford Gambs in Bethany, Mo. He preceded her in death in March 1965. She moved to North Platte in 1943.
Mrs. Gambs is survived by two sons, Bob (Ruth) of North Platte and Nick (Maggie) of Estes Park, Colo.; two sisters, Edna Jillson of Santa Clara, Calif., and Wilma Hipwell of North Platte; three brothers, Merwin of Melcher, Iowa, Wilfred (June) of Arivaca, Ariz., and Robert (Jean) of Cincinnati, Iowa; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were her parents and a brother, Roy Seddon.
The body was cremated and at her request there will be no services.
Adams & Swanson Funeral Home is in charge.

Ruth Lillian Carol Preitauer
GOTHENBURG — Ruth Lillian Carol Preitauer died Jan. 12, 2001, at the Gothenburg Memorial Hospital-Long Term.
She was born Nov. 1, 1912, to Edward L. and Clara Sundquist Preitauer at Bloomfield, Colo. She graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1930 with her sister.
She taught school and worked at Dr. Ayres clinic. She also worked in military defense plants in California and Grand Island and later worked at the Monroe Auto Plant in Cozad.
Miss Preitauer never married and took care of her parents until their deaths. She had lived at the Gothenburg Memorial Hospital-Long Term for the past three years. She was a member of the Legion Auxiliary, and the United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two sisters, Gertrude Thietje of Buena Park, Calif., and Mary Frances Jones of Paonia, Colo.; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Verna Edwards and Esther Jobman; and two brothers Edward and Elmer Preitauer.
Memorials are suggested to the Gothenburg Memorial Hospital-Long Term.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Gothenburg with the Rev. David Fowler officiating. Burial will be in the Gothenburg Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 5p.m. Monday.

Susan Werts
LEAVENWORTH, Kan.— Susan Werts, 43, of Leavenworth Kan., daughter-in-law of Charlotte Werts of North Platte, died Jan. 12, 2001, at her home.
She was born Nov. 4, 1957, in Leavenworth to Ralph and Ruth Judstra Whisler.
On July 22, 1978, she married Cary Werts in Leavenworth. She was a homemaker and a stay-at-home mom most of her life. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Leavenworth.
Mrs. Werts is survived by her husband; a daughter, Arelene Rose Whisler Salinas of Leavenworth; two sons, Nicholas L. and Vincent R., both of Leavenworth; her parents; two sisters, Cheri Blane of Ashburn, Va., and Judy Shlehr of Daroville, Ga.; two brothers, Danny Whisler and Jerry Whisler, both of Leavenworth; a brother-in-law, Bary Werts; and two grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to the family in care of the Beldon-Sexton-Sumpter Funeral Chapels in Leavenworth.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Leavenworth with the Rev. Randall Terrill officiating. The body will be cremated after the services.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Beldon-Sexton-Sumpter Funeral Chapels in Leavenworth.

LaVern Arthur Kampfe
WAVERLY, Iowa — LaVern Arthur Kampfe, 79, of Waverly, Iowa, brother of Raymond Kampfe of North Platte, died Jan. 15, 2001, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
He was born Oct. 21, 1921, to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Kampfe. He earned degrees from Gothenburg High School, Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, and Wartburg Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa.
On June 1, 1945, he married Doris Elaine Daugs in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Monona, Iowa.
The Rev. Kampfe is survived by his wife; a daughter, Elisa Jones of Rockford, Ill.; a son, Dr. Lanny (Jann) of Iowa City, Iowa; four grandchildren, Kevin and Katelyn Kampfe of Iowa City, and Kerry Puckett and Krista Jones, both of Rockford; a great-granddaughter, Alicia Ramirez; a sister Joanna (Dr. Curt) Wurst of Iowa City; and three brothers, Reuben (Dorothea) Kampfe of Gothenburg, the Rev. Martin Kampfe of Dubuque and Raymond (Betty) Kampfe of North Platte.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Roger Kampfe of Phillipsburg, Kan.
Memorials are suggested to Bartel Lutheran Retirement Community Chapliancy Endowment, 1922 5th Ave. N.W., Waverly, Iowa, or Lutheran Social Services - pastoral counseling, 3116 University Ave., Des Moines, Iowa, 50311.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waverly with the Revs. Michael Burk and Stuart Lundahl officiating. Burial of the cremains will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery in Monona.
There will be no public visitation.
Kaiser-Carson Funeral Home in Waverly is in charge.

Thelma B. Nielsen
CURTIS — Thelma B. Nielsen, 90, of Curtis died Jan. 22, 2001, at the Sunset Haven nursing home.
She was born May 5, 1910, in Frontier County to John and Ethel Baker ####. She attended school in McCook and after graduation attended business school. She worked for the Government Farm Loan Program, Heinz Mercantile and the Highline Enterprise.
On Feb. 2, 1952, she married Godfrey S. Nielsen at Maywood.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Curtis and the Order of Eastern Star in McCook for more than 50 years.
Mrs. Nielsen is survived by her husband; cousins Roland Brubaker of Lincoln, Mary Lou and Carol Ann #### of Washington, Russell Sloan of Idaho, Janice Arney of North Platte, Jamy Elker, Edrie Picard de Muller and Shelley Monaghan all of Omaha, Debb Sloan, Diane Decime and Cris Anjelkovich, all of Idaho.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an aunt, May Baker; her cousins, Delores Wood, Mona Minnick and Beryl Saum; and other aunts and uncles.
Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Curtis with the Rev. Shirley Carpenter officiating. Burial will be in the Curtis Cemetery.
Visitations will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Blase-Wetzel Funeral Home in Curtis.

Jody Kay Carpenter
DUNNING — Jody Kay Carpenter, mother of Gerald Dale Carpenter II of North Platte, died at her home in Dunning Jan. 23, 2001, after battling cancer. She was 44.
She was born Aug. 23, 1956, in Central City to George A. and Letha M. Page Reyner. She grew up in the Marquette area and graduated from Marquette High School in 1974. She attended beauty college in Grand Island and received her cosmetology license and was a beautician.
On Sept. 27, 1980, she married Gerald Dale Carpenter at Mamre Evangelical Free Church near Marquette. The couple made their home in the Sandhills areas of Bassett, Taylor and Dunning, where they ranched. She also worked at the Rock County Hospital in Bassett.
Mrs. Carpenter was a member of the Dunning Open Bible Church and an art club. She enjoyed photography, sewing and quilting.
Surviving her is her husband; a daughter, Jackie Carpenter of Dunning; a son, Gerald Dale II (Lorena) of North Platte; two grandchildren, Kandace and Lane Carpenter, both of North Platte; three sisters, Jana White, June Brophy and Jill (Charles) Cadwallader, all of Marquette; and three brothers, Greg of Topeka, Kan., and Earl (Cindy) and Levi, all of Marquette.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Solt Funeral Home Chapel in Central City with the Rev. Ralph McKay officiating. Burial will be in the Richland Cemetery near Marquette.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Solt Funeral Home in Central City.
