Thelma B. Nielsen
CURTIS — Thelma B. Nielsen, 90, of Curtis died Jan. 22, 2001, at the Sunset Haven nursing home.
She was born May 5, 1910, in Frontier County to John and Ethel Baker ####. She attended school in McCook and after graduation attended business school. She worked for the Government Farm Loan Program, Heinz Mercantile and the Highline Enterprise.
On Feb. 2, 1952, she married Godfrey S. Nielsen at Maywood.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Curtis and the Order of Eastern Star in McCook for more than 50 years.
Mrs. Nielsen is survived by her husband; cousins Roland Brubaker of Lincoln, Mary Lou and Carol Ann #### of Washington, Russell Sloan of Idaho, Janice Arney of North Platte, Jamy Elker, Edrie Picard de Muller and Shelley Monaghan all of Omaha, Debb Sloan, Diane Decime and Cris Anjelkovich, all of Idaho.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an aunt, May Baker; her cousins, Delores Wood, Mona Minnick and Beryl Saum; and other aunts and uncles.
Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Curtis with the Rev. Shirley Carpenter officiating. Burial will be in the Curtis Cemetery.
Visitations will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Blase-Wetzel Funeral Home in Curtis.

John William Benkosky
John William Benkosky, 88, of North Platte died Jan. 19, 2001, at Centennial Park Retirement Village in North Platte.
He was born April 25, 1912, to Oscar and Cordelia Smith Benkosky at Wellfleet. He grew up in the Wellfleet and Wallace areas. He attended Medicine Valley School at Medicine Creek as well as Wellfleet and Wallace schools.
On March 18, 1929, he married Wilma O’Connell. They lived in Wallace and North Platte. He was a carman for the Union Pacific Railroad, retiring in 1975. He was baptized in the St. James Church in Curtis and later in the First Baptist Church at Wellfleet. He was also a member of the Eagles Aerie 2839, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks 985, Moose Lodge 551 and the Union Pacific Railroad Athletic Club.
Mr. Benkosky is survived by a daughter, LaVaughn (Jerry) Lebsock of Riverside, Calif.; two sons, Derald (Jean) of Soquel, Calif., and Jack of Indio, Calif.; a sister, Hazel (Ralph) Pierpoint of North Platte; a sister-in-law, Maxine (Ted) Hauglund of North Platte; a brother-in-law, Wayne Watson of Brighton, Colo.; five grandchildren, Sheri Benkosky of Corralitos, Calif., Mike Benkosky of Scotts Valley, Calif., Vicki (Matt) Jacobs of Santa Cruz, Calif., Mark (Brigitte) Lebsock of Riverside and Terry (Jennifer) Lebsock of San Jacinto, Calif.; and four great-grandchildren, Travis and Danelle Lebsock, and Suzi and Justin Jacobs.
He was preceded in death by his wife and a grandson, Marty Lebsock.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte with the Rev. David Heintzleman officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte.

Deloris J. Boshart
MILFORD — Deloris Jean Boshart, 70, of Milford, mother of Mike Boshart of North Platte, died Jan. 21, 2001, at Sunrise Country Manor near Milford.
She was born June 27, 1930, on a farm west of Milford to Jake and Mary Danner Stutzman. She attended Stauffer Country School west of Milford. She was baptized at the East Fairview Mennonite Church.
On Sept. 26, 1948, she married Burdette J. Boshart in Milford. They lived in Milford, where she was a charter member of the Beth-El Mennonite Church. She enjoyed quilting, cooking and spending time with her grandchildren.
Mrs. Boshart is survived by her husband; four daughters, Pat (Lynn) Hostetler of Columbia, Mo., Holly (Roger) Hostetler of Beaver Crossing, Carla (Don) Yeackley of Milford and Pam (Van) Wurst of Columbus; a son, Mike (Michelle) of North Platte; 10 grandchildren, Pia and Walter Capell, Chris and Jessica Hostetler, Michael Hostetler, Corey Hostetler, Tara Yeackley, Travis and Tracy Yeackley, Trevor Boshart, Taylor Boshart, Rhett Wurst and Kasey Wurst; a great-granddaughter, Adison Capell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, ####, Wilbur, Harley and Elden Stutzman.
Memorials may be made to the family.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at the Beth-El Mennonite Church in Milford with the Rev. Marlin Thomas officiating. Burial will be in the Milford Mennonite Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to service time today at the church.
Lauber-Moore Funeral Home is in charge.

Freda Morgan
BROKEN BOW — Freda Morgan, 95, of Broken Bow, formerly of Omaha and Loup City, died Jan. 20, 2001, at the Sandhills Manor Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
She was born April 21, 1905, at Cordova to Herman and Blanche Roush Schneller. Her childhood was spent in Buffalo County. She attended Kearney State Teachers College, where she graduated in 1927. After completing her education she taught school and then worked for the Omaha School District for more than 40 years.
She was confirmed into the Lutheran church and attended church regularly.
On July 2, 1933, she married John F. Morgan at Ravenna and they spent more than 50 years together. Her husband died Nov. 30, 1984. When her health began to fail, she moved to Kearney and later moved to the Sandhills Manor nursing home.
Mrs. Morgan is survived by nieces, nephews and other family.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Louise Cross and Emma Schmaljohn; and two brothers, Roy and Floyd.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City with the Rev. Shawn Kitzing officiating.
Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow is in charge.

Phillip Spanel
BROKEN BOW — Phillip James Spanel, 73, of Broken Bow died Jan. 22, 2001, at the Heritage Hall nursing home in Broken Bow.
He was born July 6, 1927, at Anselmo to Frank and Caroline Knoell Spanel.
On Oct. 26, 1955, he married Karen Joy Woods at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Broken Bow. Later he bought Top Tune Amusement, which he owned and operated until retiring seven years ago. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the Broken Bow Elks Lodge and the American Legion.
Mr. Spanel is survived by his wife; two daughters, Celeste (Bill) Baumert of Gretna and Lisa (Michael) Bell of Flowery Branch, Ga.; two sons, Gregory Scott (Yolonda) of Broken Bow and Craig (Betsy) of Callaway; four brothers, Lawrence (Karen) Spanel and Robert (Phyllis) Spanel, both of Grand Island, Victor (Elaine) Spanel, of El Centro, Calif., and Francis “Andy” (Pat) of Heber Springs, Ark.; a mother-in-law, Leona Woods of Broken Bow; a brother-in-law, Donald (Cordie) Woods of Hastings; 13 grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Louise Spanel.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
Christian wake service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Broken Bow.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church in Broken Bow with the Rev. Todd Philipsen officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
There will be no visitation.

Mollie E. Adkins
Mollie Ethel Adkins, 93, of North Platte died Jan. 18, 2001, at Centennial Park Retirement Village.
She was born, March 9, 1907, to Lantford and Martha Ellen Williams Boggs at Lewellen.
She married Arlie V. Adkins in 1924 at Julesburg, Colo. He preceded her in death on Jan. 15, 1975. She moved to North Platte in 1933 and had lived here since.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Does Drove 109, the Eagles, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Auxiliaries, the Ladies of the Moose, the UTU and the Navy Mothers.
Mrs. Adkins is survived by two sons, Darwin V. of North Platte and Jarred D. (Lois) of Omaha; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and four brothers.
Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens with the Rev. James Hawley of the First Presbyterian Church officiating.
Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. today and from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Adams & Swanson Funeral Home.

Vera Douglass Folchert
Vera E. Folchert, 95, of North Platte died Jan. 20, 2001, at Premier Estates in North Platte.
She was born June 23, 1905, in Dundy County, near Haigler, to Fred and Ethel Calkins Cuddeback. Her childhood was spent in Nebraska, where she received her education.
In 1923, she married Lawrence M. Douglass and they lived near Cushing and Dunning for more than 20 years. In 1955, they moved to Grand Island. He preceded her in death in 1966. She worked at the veterans’ hospital in Grand Island for more than 13 years before retiring in 1976 and moving to North Platte.
In 1977, she married Leonard Folchert . He preceded her in death in 1997.
She was a member of the Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Folchert is survived by two daughters, Freda (Wendle) Hagmann of Grand Island and Janice (Gordon) Hendrickson of Payette, Ind.; five sons, Jerold (Jackie) Douglass of Merna, Alvin (Dorothy) Douglass of North Platte, Les Douglass and Vance (Jan) Douglass, both of Ashby, and Dennis (Barbara) Douglass of Grand Island; a stepdaughter, Jeanie Hansen of Alliance; a son-in-law, Ernie Wempen of Overton; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; fivw great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Leila Wempen; a daughter-in-law, Karen K. Douglass; two grandsons, Gary Hagmann and David Douglass; a great-grandson, Clint Douglass; two sisters; and four brothers.
Memorials are suggested to the Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Adams & Swanson Chapel with the Rev. Robert Kuefner of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church officiating. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. in West Lawn Memorial Gardens in Grand Island.
Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte.

Floyd L. ‘Stub’ Latimer
WELLFLEET — Floyd L. “Stub” Latimer, 93, of Wellfleet died Jan. 20, 2001, at his home.
He was born March 19, 1907, in Maywood to James J. and Agnes V. Cooper Latimer. He grew up and attended school in Maywood.
On Oct. 31, 1934, he married Pauline Soules in North Platte. He farmed in the Wellfleet area before going to work for the Maywood school system as a custodian and bus driver for 12 years.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Wellfleet and the Odd Fellows for more than 35 years. He was the caretaker of the Wellfleet, Ash Grove, Wellfleet Lutheran and Evergreen Cemeteries. He enjoyed woodworking, farming and fishing.
Mr. Latimer is survived by his wife; a son, Kavin (Debbie) of Wellfleet; three grandchildren; and four great- grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a sister, Laura Evans; and two brothers, Harry and Newton Latimer.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Wellfleet with the Rev. Martin Leeper officiating. Inurnment will be in Wellfleet Cemetery.
The body was cremated. There will be no visitation.
Those wishing to sign the register book may do so from noon. to 6 p.m. today and from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte.

William ‘Bill’ Rothwell
ARTHUR — William ‘Bill’ Rothwell, 72, a lifetime rancher in Arthur and Grant Counties, died January 19, 2001, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
He was born March 2, 1928, in Hyannis to George W. and Gladys Crouch Rothwell. He graduated from Curtis High School in 1945. He attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for 1˝ years.
On Nov. 6, 1949, he married Shirley Jean Coleman at the Alliance Methodist Church. They moved to the family ranch in 1949 and lived there until the early 1990s. He also sold Moorman Feed.
He was a member of the United Church of Christ of Hyannis, the Masonic Lodge of Hyannis, the Kappa Sig Fraternity and the Elks Lodge of Alliance.
Mr. Rothwell is survived by his wife; three daughters, Pamela Sue (Rick) Arrants of Alliance, Polly Ann (Al) Gunther of Bloomfield, and Peggy Theresa (Matt) Jolovich of Torrington, Wyo.; a son, Robert D. (Terry) of Hyannis; two sisters, Phyllis (Louie) Knoflicek and Martha Warday, all of Alliance; three brothers, Robert (Ann) Rothwell of Lincoln, Max (Lorine) Rothwell of Tryon and Gene Rothwell of Monument, Colo.; a brother-in-law, Robert (Phyllis) Coleman of Casper, Wyo.; 17 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a son, William D. Rothwell, and his parents.
Memorials are suggested to the Arthur Baptist Church.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Arthur Baptist Church with the Rev. Glendon Epp officiating. Burial will be in the Hyannis Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at the Draucker Funeral Home in Ogallala.
