Dorothy M. Oldfather
LEXINGTON — Dorothy M. Oldfather, 95, of Lexington died Jan. 16, 2001, at the Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington.
She was born Feb. 5, 1905, at Elwood to Preston and Lillian Buffington Haworth. She was raised in the Elwood and Lexington areas and attended school in Lexington.
On Oct. 29, 1924, she married Claude Oldfather at Lexington. He preceded her in death on Oct. 30, 1992. They lived in Lexington most of their married life except when they lived in California when he was a welder in the shipyards and in Kansas City, where he was in barber college. While in California, she worked in a blueprint office. She was a dedicated mother and homemaker.
Mrs. Oldfather is survived by a son, Robert Oldfather of Grand Island; two nieces, Mary Jane (Robert) Anthony and Dorthy (Tom) Oldfather, both of Lexington; and other nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, a sister and a nephew, Tom Oldfather.
Memorials are suggested to the donor’s choice.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington with the Rev. Bracken Sheldon officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington.
Visitation is from 9 a.m. to noon prior to the service today at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington.

Doris Ruth Marie Rohnert
LEXINGTON — Doris Ruth Marie Rohnert, 80, of Lexington died Jan. 17, 2001, at the Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington.
She was born Sept. 20, 1920, at Hastings to Joseph and Loretta Genther Utecht. The family moved to Lexington in 1935.
On Feb. 20, 1939, she married John Rohnert at WaKeeney, Kan. The couple lived in Lexington. He served as the Dawson County sheriff for many years and she was involved in the running of the jail and was the jail’s cook for many years. She always supported the grandchildren in all of their activities and she enjoyed being with her family.
She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington and served whenever asked in any capacity in the church. She liked watching Cornhusker football.
Mrs. Rohnert is survived by her husband; three daughters, Dian McConnell, Jo (Keith) Swartz and Cindy (Gary) Flint, all of Lexington; a brother, Ronald (Julia) Utecht of Superior; nine grandchildren, Jason, Justin and Jerad Swartz, Mike, Kelly and Tim McConnell, Kim McMahan and Heather and Jacob Flint.; and seven great-grandchildren, Ronnie, Jalisa, Katie, Brian, Michaela, Angelia and Ronald.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheila; her parents; four brothers, Don, Paul, Pete and Bob; and a son-in-law, Gene.
Memorials are suggested to the Diabetes Association or the Lexington Volunteer Fire Department.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington with the Revs. Ralph Guetersloh, Richard Boring and Dan Cosson co-officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington.

Devotabell Darlene ‘Dee’ Schultz-Trammell
OKALAHOMA CITY, Okla. — Devotabell Darlene “Dee” Schultz-Trammell, 75, of Oklahoma City, Okla., formerly of the North Platte and Curtis areas, died Jan. 16, 2001, at Oklahoma City.
She was born Aug. 22, 1925, in a sod house south of Curtis to Harvey Paige and Olsa Estella Headley Schultz. She grew up and attended school in Curtis, Maywood and Maxwell and graduated from North Platte High School.
She married Howard Reeves and they had two sons.
In 1954, she married Kenneth Hoffman. He preceded her in death in 1984.
In 1985, she married Randy Trammell. He preceded her in death 1986. She was a clerk in a drug store and other businesses until her retirement. She was baptized in the Trinity Nazarene Church in Oklahoma City.
Mrs. Schultz-Trammell is survived by two sons, Robert (Doris) Reeves of Washington, Okla., and Alvin (Mary) Hoffman of Oklahoma City; a sister, Betty Jean Morgan of San Antonio; two brothers, Floyd (Viola) Schultz and Harvey (Louella) Schultz, all of North Platte; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers Harold and Albert Schultz.
A memorial has been established.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Resthaven Funeral Home in Oklahoma City, with burial following in the Resthaven Memory Gardens.

Ralph Tolson
GRANT — Ralph Tolson, 77, of Grant died Jan. 14, 2001, at the Golden Ours Convalescent Home in Grant.
He was born May 21, 1923, at Tamora to Elmer and Nora Dalton. He grew up in the Hayes Center and Curtis communities, and after high school he attended the Curtis School of Agriculture for one year. He joined the U.S. Army in 1943 and served in the New Guinea-Luzon Islands area during World War II. After his discharge in 1945, he worked construction in different communities until 1946, when he moved to Oakland.
On Sept. 20, 1967, he married Audrey Burgess Keller in McCook and they eventually moved to Grant. While in Grant, he worked for Andrews and Son and was later involved in construction. He moved to the nursing home in 1998.
Mr. Tolson is survived by two daughters, Jan (J.C.) Boyadjian of Paris, France, and Carol (Dave) Heinemann of Tekamah; a daughter-in-law, Bobby Tolson of Bellevue; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1989, and a son, Mark, in 1997.
Services will be at 10 a.m. MST at the Bullock-Long Funeral Home in Grant with John Long officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. CST Friday in Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell with flag presentation by the Perkins County Veterans.
Bullock-Long Funeral Home is in charge.

Ruthie Dean Wicks
SIDNEY — Ruth Wicks, 74, of Sidney died Jan. 15, 2001, at the Exempla Lutheran Medical Center in Wheatridge, Colo.
She was born Sept. 7, 1926, in Bristow, Okla., to Dudley and Connie Pendergraff Moore. She spent most of her youth in Hobbs, N.M. After graduating from Hobbs High School in 1944, she attended the University of Texas for a short time before returning to Hobbs during World War II.
On April 18, 1946, she married Clark E. Wicks, a sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Following their wedding, they moved to Rapid City, S.D. Shortly after the birth of their first son, they moved to Nebraska. In January 1964, they moved to Sidney, where she was the Welcome Wagon hostess for 15 years. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church and enjoyed camping, golf and spending time with her family.
Mrs. Wicks is survived by her husband of 54 years; a daughter, Cheryl Lindekugel of Hershey; two sons, Byron of Littleton, Colo., and Brad of Denver; three granddaughters, Cari Brownawell, and Debbie and Kim Lindekugel; two grandsons, Jeff and Chris Wicks; and a great-granddaughter, Baylee Jo Brownawell.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and a granddaughter.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Sidney with the Rev. Gary Aten officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney.

Hazel I. Brittenham
MAXWELL — Hazel I. Brittenham, 88, of Maxwell died Jan. 16, 2001, at Chancellor Place at Aspen Park in North Platte.
She was born Nov. 6, 1912, to Charles and Edna Hardesty Everley at Maxwell. She was raised and attended school in Maxwell.
On Aug. 19, 1929, she married Clarence “Pat” Brittenham at Julesburg, Colo. They lived in Maxwell, where Hazel worked as a clerk at the post office for 37 years, retiring in 1972. She was a past member of the Royal Neighbor Lodge, a member of the Maxwell School Booster Club, and the American Association of Retired Persons. She enjoyed traveling and fancy work. She also enjoyed auctions and was an avid antique collector. She attended all Maxwell School sports and liked to attend Nebraska football games. She collected old pictures and postcards and was an avid stamp collector.
Mrs. Brittenham is survived by two grandsons, Dale Brittenham and Duane (Alicia) Brittenham, both of North Platte; a nephew that she raised, Jim (Betty) Temple of Bellevue; a daughter-in-law, Denise Brittenham of Gothenburg; numerous nieces and nephews and friends, including special friends Kenneth and Fern Fraze and Betty Knepke.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Gary; three sisters and four brothers.
A memorial has been established to the Great Plains Hospice, Great Plains Home Health Care, the Village of Maxwell Rescue Unit or the Maxwell Public Schools.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Adams & Swanson Chapel with the Rev. Bob Townsend officiating. Burial will be at Plainview Cemetery at Maxwell.
Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m Thursday and from 8:30 a.m. to service time Friday at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home.

Gloria D. Bogus
Gloria D. Bogus, 65, of North Platte died Jan, 16, 2001, at her home.
She was born on June 23, 1935, at Tryon to Delbert and Violet Kisler Haynes. She was raised in Tryon and Maxwell, attended Maxwell High School and later received her GED in 1986.
In 1952, she married Calvin D. Stewart and they lived in St. Joseph, Mo. He preceded her in death in 1964. She then moved to North Platte.
In 1970, she married Wilbert A. Bogus. She worked at Montgomery Ward, the American Legion and Farm Fare, and retired from Shopko in 2000.
Mrs. Bogus is survived by a daughter, Norma (Randy) Bomschein of North Platte; three sons, Calvin Stewart of Virginia Beach, Va., David Bogus of North Platte and Frank Bogus of Gautier, Miss.; seven sisters, Marge Masters and Rozella McMurtry, both of North Platte; Florence (Lloyd) Hilton of Grand Junction, Colo., Joyce Hatfield of Ontario, Ore., Vivian Skelton of Springfield, Mo., Marlene Bernier of Waterford, Conn., and Carolyn (Jim) Burns of Lincoln; a brother, Dwayne (Doris) Haynes of Oklahoma City; three grandchildren, Christopher, Nicholas and James; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Donald Haynes.
Memorials are suggested to the Great Plains Regional Medical Center Hospice Program.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte. Burial will be in the North Platte Cemetery.
Visitation is from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel.

Florence M. ‘Flossie’ Kelly
OGALLALA — Florence M. “Flossie” Kelly, 92, of Ogallala died Jan. 15, 2001, at her home.
She was born Aug. 7, 1908, in Linn, Miss., to W. H. and Alice McKnight Franken. The family moved to Colorado in 1916, and then to Ogallala in 1918. Following her graduation from high school, she attended St. Joseph’s School for Nursing in Omaha. She worked in Ogallala for many years as a registered nurse.
On Nov. 19, 1935, she married Mike Kelly at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Ogallala. They lived north of Ogallala until 1953, when they moved into town. She was a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church and the Altar Society.
Mrs. Kelly is survived by two sisters, Verdie Peters and Evelyn Feltz, both of Ogallala, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Jerry; a sister, Wilma Frost; and a brother, Shirley Franken.
A memorial has been established.
Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at the Gubser Funeral Chapel.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Ogallala, with the Rev. Joe Steele as celebrant. Burial will be in the Ogallala Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of the Rosary today at the Gubser Funeral Chapel in Ogallala.

Laura I. Lefferdink
GOTHENBURG — Laura I. Lefferdink, 88, died Jan. 15, 2001, at Goldcrest Nursing Home in Adams.
She was born Dec. 2, 1912, to Chris and Caroline Duis Gronewold at Gothenburg. She graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1930.
She was a lifetime member to the American Lutheran Church, was a member of the Pleasant View Extension Club for 44 years, and was a former member of the Women’s Bowling Association for 22 years, where she was league secretary.
She is survived by three daughters, Jeanette Kandler of LaSalle, Mich., Carolyn (Larry) Goering of Hickman and Glenda (Chuck) Crate of Belton, Mo.; a-son, James (Carol) Garrelts of Ogden, Utah; a sister, Doris Keiser of Gothenburg; a stepson, Dean Lefferdink of Firth; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Lawrence Garrelts and Richard Lefferdink; her parents; two sisters, Linda and Jewel; two brothers, Ted and Bill; a daughter-in law, Virginia Garrelts; a-son-in-law, Ronald Kandler; and a grandson, Charles Crate III.
Memorials are suggested to the American Lutheran Church or the Gold Crest nursing home in Adams.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the American Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jeff Ruetten officiating. Burial will be at the American Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and Thursday at Blase Memorial Chapel.

Alan K. ‘A.K.’ Woody
Alan K. “A.K.” Woody, 73, of North Platte died Jan. 15, 2001, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.
He was born Feb. 13, 1927, at Arcadia to Harvey J. and Lena Moore Woody and graduated from Arcadia in 1945.
On Jan. 7, 1951, he married Margaret Mary Kaslon at Arcadia and shortly after that he left for Fort Riley, Kan., and served in the U.S. Army. After his discharge, he returned to Arcadia and sold cars. He later worked for John Deere before moving to York. They returned to Arcadia in 1961 to operate the family business, Woody’s Tavern. They moved to Grand Island before moving to North Platte in 1964. He worked for James E. Simon Co. before bartending at the Platte Bar and the House Bar. He was a self-employed carpenter for many years and helped build the North Platte Library, the new Veterans of Foreign Wars building, Cravens Pharmacy, the House Bar and many other local business buildings.
In 1993, they moved to Las Vegas, where he was employed by Jackie Gaughan at the El Cortez. In 2000, they returned to North Platte and lived at Autumn Park. He enjoyed fishing, family gatherings, spending time with his grandchildren, coin collecting, playing cards, doing puzzles and having morning coffee with dear friends.
He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Moose Lodge 551, Eagles Aerie No. 2839, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1504, where he was commander from 1988-1993, and was a past member of P.R. Halligan Post 163, American Legion.
Mr. Woody is survived by his wife of North Platte; five daughters, Cheryl Kay (Jerry) Hogue of Eugene, Ore., Mary Jane (Bill) Erickson of Las Vegas, Carol Jean (Gary) Hovey, Janet Lee (Bill) Kelsey and Joyce Lynn Pell, all of North Platte; two sons, Kevin John (Nikki) of North Platte and Alan Joe (Sherri) of Las Vegas; two sisters, Lois (Clyde) Chamberlin of Arlington, and Alice (Robert) Hruby of Ord; a brother, Don (Betty) Woody of Lincoln; 14 grandchildren, Erica, Matt, Jamin, Melissa, Mindy, Ashley, Michelle, Christa, Ryan, Calley, Andrew, Jessica, Tiffany and Austin; a great-grandson, Taylor; an aunt, Dorothy Burns of Lexington; and a sister-in-law, Lavonne Woody of North Platte.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Rita Marie Woody; and a brother, Dean Woody.
A memorial has been established.
Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Patrick’s Church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Mike Guevara as celebrant. Inurnment of the cremains will be in Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell with military honors by the North Platte Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Odean Colonial Chapel and before the Rosary at the church.
