Larry Grubham Rookstool

Larry Dean Grubham Rookstool, 41, of North Platte died Feb. 24, 2001, at his home.

He was born Jan. 11, 1960, to Larry and Karen Lewis Rookstool in North Platte. He grew up in North Platte and Washington, and attended school in North Platte. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad until 1993. He also worked for AgElectric and was a manager for Sitel in North Platte, McCook and Texas. He enjoyed helping people. He liked to swim at the interstate lake and watch football on television.

Mr. Rookstool is survived by his parents, Karen Wood of Bremerton, Wash., and Larry (Pat) Rookstool of North Platte; three daughters, Kaylee Gibbons of North Platte, and Meghan and Jennifer Grubham of South Dakota; three sons, Lucas, Nicholas and Marcus Grubham, all of Valentine; three sisters, Theresa (Bill) Bivens and Celeste Daniels, both of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Michelle Barden of Washington; four brothers, Bradley Grubham of Arizona, Theron (Wilda) Rookstool of Lexington, Travis (Angie) Rookstool of Alma and Tony Grubham Jr. of Washington; his grandfather, Wesley Rookstool of North Platte; five nieces; six nephews; and a great-niece.

A memorial has been established for his daughter, Kaylee Gibbons, in care of Cheryl MacDonald, 1403 E. Burlington, North Platte NE 69101.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Jessie Rookstool.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Adams & Swanson Chapel. Burial will be in the North Platte Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and from 8:30 a.m. until service time Wednesday at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte.

Gladys Rudloff

BROKEN BOW - Gladys Rudloff, 85, of Broken Bow died Feb. 24, 2001, at her home.

She was born July 2, 1915, at Crawford to Robert and Mabel Burnaugh Lux. She attended school in Crawford and Wyoming, and received her teaching certificate from Chadron State Teachers College.

In 1935, she married Joe Rudloff at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Crawford. In 1951, they bought land in Custer County and in 1960, they bought land east of the Westerville community. She worked at Becton Dickinson in Broken Bow from 1961 to 1981. After her husband retired in 1981, they moved to Broken Bow.

She enjoyed traveling, gardening, crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles.

Mrs. Rudloff is survived by two sons, John of Kearney and Robert (Gwen) of North Platte; five grandchildren, Pamela Summers of Milwaukee, Wisc., Josef Rudloff, Robert Rudloff of Denver, Sara Rudloff of North Platte and Nathan Rudloff of Rapid City, S.D.; a sister, Wanda Louthan of Blue Hill; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband on April 18, 1997; and her parents.

Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Crawford.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church in Crawford with the Rev. Loren Pohlmeier officiating. Burial will be in the St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Crawford.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow and from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Arthur Wilhelm Stillahn

CHEYENNE, Wyo. - Arthur Wilhelm Stillahn, 75, of Cheyenne, Wyo., father of Kathy Nutter of North Platte, died Feb. 23, 2001, at the United Medical Center West in Cheyenne.

He was born May 27, 1925, in Syracuse to Gerd and Nora Stillahn.

On Aug. 6, 1950, he married Jeannette Herring at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nebraska City. He farmed and ranched in Syracuse until 1965, when he moved to Cheyenne, where he was show and sale cattle superintendent at the Wyoming Hereford Ranch. He bought a ranch north of Cheyenne, where he raised registered Hereford cattle.

He served as Sunday school superintendent, was a church council member, and an usher. He served as president of the Nemaha Valley Hereford Association in Nebraska, and was a lifetime member of the American Hereford Association.

Mr. Stillahn is survived by his wife; a daughter, Kathy (Joe) Nutter of North Platte; three sons, Jerry (Mary) of Merced, Calif., Gene (Cindy), and Clark, all of Cheyenne; five grandchildren, Christopher, Amy, Trey and Evan Stillahn and Stacia Nutter; two sisters, Ruby Roos and Irene Reimer of Syracuse; and a brother, Elmer Stillahn of Syracuse.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials are suggested to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cheyenne or the Junior Hereford Association of Wyoming.

Services were Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cheyenne. Additional services and burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Christ Lutheran Cemetery at Syracuse.

Schrader Funeral Home of Cheyenne is in charge.

Janice Marie Smith
LITTLETON, Colo. — Janice Marie Smith of Littleton, Colo., formerly of North Platte and sister-in-law of Gary Anderson of North Platte, died Feb. 1, 2001, in Denver.

She was born March 5, 1938, in Valparaiso to George and Esther Nielson Sullivan. She grew up and attended school in North Platte.

On Oct. 8, 1960, she married Donald "Skip" Smith in North Platte. The couple moved to the Denver area in 1991.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband; a daughter, Leigh Ann Gardner of Denver; a son Michael of Denver; four grandchildren, Rhianna, Jaden, Kyra and Esther; a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Sullivan of Clay Center, Kan.; two brothers, Leon (Mary Lou) Sullivan of Omaha and Pat (Lou) Sullivan of Littleton; and a brother-in-law, Gary Anderson of North Platte.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Wanda Franzen and Rose Ann Anderson; and a brother, Michael Sullivan.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church in Littleton. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell.

Gubser Funeral Home of Ogallala is in charge.

Jay F. Beerman
Jay F. Beerman, 77, of North Platte died Feb. 5, 2001, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.

He was born Dec. 20, 1923, at Ingham to Floyd and Esther Flannagan Beerman. He graduated from Farnam High School in 1941.

On Nov. 19, 1942, he joined the U.S. Navy, where he served as aviation machinist’s mate, second class, until his discharge March 25, 1946.

On Jan. 1, 1951, he married Barbara Farley in Farnam, and in 1953, they moved to North Platte.

He worked for the North Platte Police Department and was a security guard for the Armour Packing Co. He later was a chief deputy for the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, retiring in 1972. He was also a gunsmith at Allen’s Self Service and what was then called Gibsons-True Value. He enjoyed retrieving Civil War relics at Fort McPherson.

Mr. Beerman is survived by his wife; a daughter, the Rev. Shannon K. Smith of North Platte; two sons, Jay Steven (Debra) of Kearney and Randall C. of Alaska; four grandchildren, Jennifer and Dustin Beerman, Sara (Stephen) Marker and David (Brenda) Carter.

He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Shane Beerman, Nov. 2, 1988, and two sisters, Violet and Lola.
A memorial has been established.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Episcopal Church of Our Savior with the Rev. John Schaefer officiating. Burial will be in Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell with military honors.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel of North Platte.

Robert M. Brown
Robert Morton Brown, 75, of North Platte died Feb. 4, 2001, at his home.

He was born June 27, 1925, to John and Frances Bignall Brown at Junction City, Kan. He graduated from high school in Salina, Kan., and attended several universities and colleges, earning his bachelor of science in business administration at Kansas State University and his masters degree in banking from the University of Wisconsin. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a lieutenant in underwater demolition in the South Pacific.

On Dec. 30, 1950, he married Norma Lumpkin at Phillipsburg, Kan. He moved to North Platte in 1952, where he worked with Securities Acceptance Corp., North Platte Loan and Finance, North Platte Insurance Service and various other banking and finance companies. From 1982 until his death he was chief executive officer and owner of GM of Cheyenne Inc., doing business as Grease Monkey in Cheyenne, Wyo.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and served on the finance committee for several years. He was a member of many civic organizations and also served on the boards of the Chamber of Commerce, the Ambassadors Club and North Platte College, and he served as president of the North Platte Board of Education twice. He was also a member of the Rotary Club, the Tri-Trails Council of Boy Scouts, the Nebraska Association of Independent Insurance Agents, United Way, Buffalo Bills Scouts Rest Ranch and the Lincoln County Democratic Central Committee. He also served as civil service commissioner for 12 years.

He was a member of the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, the Elks, the Masonic Lodge, Consistory, Shrine, the National Realtor Association and the Community Concert Association. He was also an Admiral of the Great Navy of the State of Nebraska.

Mr. Brown is survived by his wife; three daughters, Cyndy (David) Martin of Grand Rapids, Mich., Nancy (Rod) Bomberger of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Susan (Dan) Wesslund of North Platte; a son, John of Cheyenne; and 10 grandchildren, Jennifer, Laura, Julie, Dodi, Jonna, Graclyn, Robert, Jessica, Annah and Alec.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Evelyn Brown.

Memorials are suggested to the church or the Shrine Transportation Fund.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Lux officiating. Masonic rites will be at the church. Inurnment will be at a later date.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and Wednesday at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte.

Zuly Elizabet Crispin-Cipriano
LEXINGTON — Zuly Elizabet Crispin-Cipriano, the 1-month-old daughter of Mario and Rosario Cipriano Crispin, died Feb. 3, 2001, at the Children’s Hospital in Omaha.

She was born Dec. 29, 2000, at Lexington.

She is survived by her parents and a brother, Mario Jr.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 4 p.m. today at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington with the Rev. Jose Chavez officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington.

Mary Katharine Dancer
SUTHERLAND — Mary Katharine Dancer, 95, of Sutherland died Feb. 4, 2001, at Linden Court in North Platte.

She was born March 20, 1905, in Naponee to Frederick J. and Kate Z. McKinley Griffin. She was 4 years old when the family moved in two covered wagons to Kincaid in McPherson County. They lived there for three years. She graduated from Sutherland High School with the class of 1924.

On Dec. 24, 1923, she married Roy S. Dancer in her parents’ home in Sutherland. They moved to a ranch in McPherson County and lived there until 1946, when they moved to Sutherland.

She enjoyed the outdoors and had a large garden each year along with many flowers. During her retirement years, she crocheted many afghans and doilies, and in her later years she started painting. She taught Sunday school and was an organist for many years at the United Methodist Presbyterian Church in Sutherland, where she was active for 81 years. She was a member of the Signet Chapter 55 Order of the Eastern Star and was a Worthy Matron for three terms.

Mrs. Dancer is survived by three daughters, Ruth (Vernon) Stephenson of Sutherland, Beth (Andy) Newberry of Grand Island and Myrna (Don) Hallsted of Lewellen; a son, Harlon (Elaine) Dancer of Sutherland; two sisters, Alice Dancer of Roseburg, Ore., and Helen Stone of Umatilla, Ore.; two brothers, Fred (Jeanne) Griffin of Lincoln and Joe (Melba) Griffin of Roseburg; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Mary Ellen Dancer; a son, Robert Leroy Dancer; three sisters, Florence Barnett, Mildred Hise and Ruth Smith; and two granddaughters.

Memorials are suggested to the Sutherland United Methodist Church.

Services will be at 11 a.m. CST Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Karl Lent officiating. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery south of Sutherland. Eastern Star Rites will be conducted by Signet Chapter No. 55, Order of Eastern Star.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. today with the family greeting friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at Odean Colonial Chapel in North Platte.

Cortney Marie Duggan
PAXTON — Cortney Marie Duggan, 13, of Paxton died Feb. 2, 2001, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

She was born April 13, 1987, in Denver to Doyle and Kim Duggan. She attended the eighth grade in Paxton. She participated in sports and was a member of the Boots & Saddles 4-H Club.

She is survived by her parents; a sister, Madalyn; a brother, Jacob; her grandparents, Mary Duggan of Ogallala and Eldon and Sharon Ford of North Platte; and her great-grandparents, Myrtle Ford of Sabetha, Kan., and Clyde Blair of Atchison, Kan.
Memorials are suggested to the Paxton Athletic Program or the Boots & Saddles 4-H Club.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Ogallala Berean Church with the Rev. Richard Karohl officiating. Burial will be in the Dickens Cemetery.

The casket will not be opened. Friends may sign the register book from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at the Gubser Funeral Home in Ogallala.

E. Maxine Edwards
E. Maxine Edwards, 84, of North Platte died Feb. 4, 2001, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.

She was born Oct. 4, 1916, at Eldorado to Howard Alexander and Martha Viola Tessman Rath. She grew up in Eldorado and graduated from Harvard High School in 1935.

On Dec. 19, 1939, she married Hall H. Edwards at Grand Island and they lived at North Platte. While her husband was in the U.S. Army, she lived in Harvard.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of North Platte and Does Drove 109, where she was a flag bearer for many years.

Mrs. Edwards is survived by her husband; four sisters, Eleanor Klassoff of Port Alberni, British Columbia, Thelma Wagner of Rapid City, S.D., DeLores Yost and LaVonne (Larry) Fitzke, all of Harvard; and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, JoAnne Williamson; and a brother, Gerald Rath.

Memorials are suggested to Does Drove 109.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Odean Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Amy Jo Hawley officiating. Burial will be in Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and before the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
