Patricia A. Gastineau
Patricia A. Gastineau, 58, of North Platte, died Feb. 3, 2001, at Albion.

She was born Dec. 18, 1942, to Weston and Margaret Tooles Negley in North Platte. She grew up and attended school in North Platte, where she was raised by her father and her stepmother, Eloris.

On May 15, 1960, she married Floyd D. Gastineau at the Salvation Army Church in North Platte. She worked for her father and stepmother at the Railway Café throughout her adolescence and during the first years of her marriage.

She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and going to the park with her children. She also enjoyed music. She was a member of the Salvation Army Church. In her later years, she loved and enjoyed her grandchildren.

Mrs. Gastineau is survived by three daughters, Lynn M. Allen, Margaret “Peggy” A. Basile and Karen K. Gastineau; three sons, Steven P., Jamie D. (Tina), and Robbin W., all of North Platte; three step-sisters, Wanda (Glenn) Weiche of Kansas, Sandra (Elmer) Trapp of Missouri, and Marilyn Massey of Florida; a step-brother, Doug (Novita) Negley of Holdrege, 11 grandchildren, Christina, Steven R., Dustin, Travis, Brandon, Robert “Bobby,” Roger, Matthew, Millie, Joshua, and Patrick.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother; a son, Floyd Ray “Butch” Gastineau Jr. in 1984, and a sister, Linda Sandland.

Memorials may be made in her memory.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home with Majs. Elmer and Sandra Trapp officiating. Burial will be in the North Platte Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte

J. W. ‘Jerry’ Melott
John Willard “Jerry” Melott, 69, of North Platte died Feb. 4, 2001, at North Platte.

He was born Feb. 11, 1931, at Great Falls, Mont., to LeeVern and Gladys Rose Dickson Melott. He graduated from Denton High School in 1946, and he graduated from Montana State University at Bozeman in 1957 with a bachelor of arts degree in agriculture,
On June 26, 1954, he married Genievie A. “Jenny” Ecker at Denton, Mont. They farmed in the Everson area and in 1969, they moved to Pueblo, Colo., where they owned a sale barn. In 1977, they moved to North Platte with the Haneborgs and Coors Distributing. In 1983, he bought full French Charolais cattle and worked with them until 1999, when he sold them. He then retired to fish, grow roses and play bridge.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Platte Valley Lodge 32 AF&AM, Tehama Shrine Temple and the North Platte Shrine Club. He was a Past Worthy Patron of the Order of Eastern Star 72 of Denton, Mont., and belonged to the Lincoln County Cattlemen, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks 985, and P.R. Halligan Post 163, American Legion.

Mr. Melott is survived by his wife; a daughter, June (Ron) Stewart of Portage, Mich.; two sons, Jay (Jane) of Woodbridge, Va., and Jack (Danette) of Kansas City, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Ryan and Kyle Stewart, Megan Melott, Emily and Josh (Sonja) Barber, Austin and Parker Melott; a great-grandson, Brandon Barber; a cousin, Marilyn (Don) Derks of Hobson, Mont.; an uncle, John Dickson of Lewistown, Mont.; four nieces, Mary Alice (Tim) Bartel, Beth (Phillipe) Permain, Debby (Jeff) Lee and Susan Ecker; three two great-nephews, Andrew and Tyler; a great-niece, Rachel; his father and mother-in-law, Arnold and Alice Ecker of Lewistown; and a brother-in-law, Odell (Roxie) Ecker of Coffee Creek, Mont.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents; an aunt; four uncles; and a cousin, Valine Reed.

Memorials are suggested to the Shriner’s Children’s Transportation Fund or the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 985.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Lux officiating. Masonic Rites given by Platte Valley Lodge 32 AF&AM. Burial will be in Fort McPherson National Cemetery with military honors provided by the North Platte Veterans Honor Guard.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Odean Colonial Chapel and before the service Friday at the church.

Neva Lorayne Moore
SUTHERLAND — Neva Lorayne Moore, 94, of Sutherland died Feb. 4, 2001, at the Ainsworth nursing home in Ainsworth.

She was born Sept. 28, 1906, near Nelson to Roy Edwin and Lelia Fern Ferebee Brookhart.

She graduated from Nelson High School in 1925 and taught elementary school in Nuckolls County for one year. She then went to York College and received her bachelor of science degree in 1931.

On June 7, 1931, she married Harlon Emerson Moore at Nelson. They moved to Washington County, Kan. (Mahaska), where she taught school for four years. They then moved to Omaha, and she taught in Boyles Business College and a private school, the School of Individual Instruction. She later worked for the F.W. Clark Loan Co. for three years.

In 1940, they moved to Sutherland, and she was a homemaker until her husband’s death in 1964. She then taught at Hershey School, the Lower Branch School and later at the Sutherland School for six years.

She was a member of the Sutherland Presbyterian Church, the Monday Bridge Club, the Toastmistresses at Sutherland, the Speech Club, the Woman’s Club, and the Signet Chapter 55, Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by a daughter, Marilyn Jane (Charles) Blair Williams of Ainsworth; a son, Milan James (Jane Elizabeth) of Sutherland; a sister-in-law, Margaret Brookhart of Bozeman, Mont.; six grandchildren, Brian Lyle and Haley Jane Williams, Jennifer Rae (Kevin) Martin, Jonathan James (Terri), Tania Jane Moore and Tara Lynn (Matthew) Naughtin; seven great-grandchildren, Megan Marie, Lyndsey Joy and Brianna Rose Williams, Nicholas Jay and Hunter Blair Martin, Isaiah James Moore and Dominic James Naughtin; and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Wilma Hope Brookhart; and a brother, Maurice Edwin Brookhart.

Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church or the donor’s choice.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at the First Presbyterian Church in Sutherland with the Rev. Don Studley officiating. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery in Sutherland.

Clyde ‘Bus’ Webb
KEARNEY — Clyde “Bus” Webb, 87, of Kearney, formerly of Berwyn, died Feb. 3, 2001, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

He was born Aug. 30, 1913, at Berwyn to James H. and Rose A. Trotter Webb. He grew up in the Berwyn area, where he attended school. As a young man he worked in Cherry County for a short time.

On July 17, 1933, he married Helen Davis at Broken Bow. They lived in the Berwyn community, where he farmed east of Berwyn. He enjoyed horses and raised registered Belgian horses. He also raised sheep and broke horses.

In October 1998, he moved to Mount Carmel Home in Kearney.

Mr. Webb is survived by his wife; a daughter, Shirley (Lee) Slagle of Kearney; a son, James (Shirley) of Condon, Mont.; a sister, Charlotte Barton of Portland, Ore.; a brother, John Webb of Grand Island; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter; his parents; four sisters; and a brother.

Memorials are suggested to the Berwyn Community Park Fund.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Janesville Cemetery east of Broken Bow.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and 8 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.

Clayton ‘Wink’ A. Wenquist
BROKEN BOW — Clayton “Wink” Albert Wenquist, 62, formerly of Broken Bow, died Feb. 5, 2001, at the Jennie M. Melham Memorial Hospital in Broken Bow.

He was born Jan. 14, 1939, at Broken Bow to Morris Clayton and Pauline Alberta Hagadorn Wenquist. He grew up in Broken Bow and graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1957. He graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity.

On Nov. 11, 1962, he married Judy Cooke at Broken Bow. He worked in Lincoln and later they moved to Grand Forks, N.D., where he worked at Beneficial Finance. In 1968, they returned to Broken Bow and he owned and operated Wenquist Auto from 1968 to 1987. In 1987, he moved to Lincoln and was a volunteer at Bryan Memorial Hospital. He then moved to Callaway in 1994, where he made his home.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Broken Bow, the Broken Bow Elks Lodge and the Masonic Lodge. He had been a member of the Air Force Reserves from 1962 to 1968. He enjoyed all Nebraska Cornhusker sports.

Mr. Wenquist is survived by a daughter, Paula (Russ) Smith of Broken Bow; a grandson, Hunter Smith of Broken Bow; and two sisters, Alice Eastman of Lincoln and Luetta (Jerry) Peterson of Gothenburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial has been established,

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow with Gene Goben officiating. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.

Ray E. Dobbins
TRYON — Ray Edwin Dobbins, 84, of Tryon died Feb. 3, 2001, at his home.

He was born May 20, 1916, to Omer and Gladys Pyzer Dobbins, in a sod house northeast of Tryon. His father died in the flu epidemic of 1919. In 1924, his mother married Ira Cumpston, who was the only father he knew. He attended school in Tryon, graduating in 1934. Following graduation, he worked at the Bender store in Tryon.

On Sept. 26, 1936, he married Margaret Popham at Judge Johnson’s place north of Ringgold. He continued to work at the store in Tryon. They later operated the store at Ringgold until 1944, when they moved to a ranch northeast of Tryon. He operated the ranch until 1971, when he was elected McPherson County clerk, a position he held for 10 years. He was an associate McPherson County judge until 1989. He retired July 15, 1989, to enjoy his home. He enjoyed his woodworking shop where each item was very carefully crafted and many where given to his family.

He is survived by a daughter, Rita Correll of Tryon; a son, Ron (Lorna) Dobbins of Tryon; a sister, Ona (Ray) McCandless of North Platte; a brother, Don (Rose) Dobbins of Willows, Calif.; six grandchildren, Kent (Cindy) Correll of Fort Worth, Texas, Deanne (Brad) Jenkins of Omaha, Terry (Julie) Correll and Shelly (Mark) Lovitt, all of Tryon, Cindy (Brad) Kroll of Bassett and Trudy Dobbins of Lake Stevens, Wash.; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, on Sept. 5, 1998; a son-in-law, Rusty Correll; his parents; his stepfather; and an infant brother, Howard.

A memorial has been established.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Ringgold Free Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Miller Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and Thursday at the Adams & Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte.

Roberta Lucille Howard
Roberta Lucille Howard, 71, of North Platte, formerly of McCook, died Feb. 4, 2001, at her home.

She was born Aug. 22, 1929, in Keystone, Mo., to Robert Alford and Eva Jessie Darling Smith. She moved with her family to Cameron, Mo., where she attended grades third through eight at Goodrich Elementary School. She graduated from Cameron High School in 1947.

On Dec. 31, 1948, she married David Howard in Cameron at the Baptist parsonage.

She was an excellent seamstress and cook. Her family had lived in Lincoln, Coal Creek Canyon, Colo., McCook and North Platte.

Mrs. Howard is survived by her husband, two daughters, Janet (Jerome) Gilg of North Platte and Cathy Baker of Golden, Colo.; a son, Larry of Golden; four grandsons, Aaron and Paul Gilg of Kearney, Billy (Christine) Howard of Mount Morris, Ill., and Jakob (Loana) Baker of San Diego; three great-grandchildren, Caitlynn Howard and Gavin and Brennen Baker; and a sister, Elva Blades of Hamilton, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Eileen Calvert; a son-in-law, James Baker; and three brothers-in-law, Elmer Peterson, Ralph Blades and Arthur Calvert.

Memorials are suggested to the hospice program or the American Cancer Society.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Carpenter Breland Chapel in McCook with the Revs. James Denny and David Heintzleman officiating.

Cremation will follow the services.

Domitila Navarrete
GREELEY, Colo. — Domitila Navarrete, 111, of Greeley died Feb. 4, 2001, in Colorado.

She was born July 16, 1889, in Ayotlan, Jalisco, Mexico, to Isabel Magana and Victoria Alvarado.

In 1905, she married Isaac Navarrete in Jalisco, Mexico. They moved to Texas for four years, then to Pueblo, Colo. In 1928, they moved to Platteville, Colo. They then moved to Bonell, Colo., in May 1992.

She enjoyed gardening.

Mrs. Navarrete is survived by three daughters, Dorothy Vasquez of Denver, and Josephine Navarrete and Elvira Navarrete-Garza, both of Platteville; four sons, Felix of California, William of Platteville and Jose and Frank, both of Greeley; 38 grandchildren; and numerous other relatives of North Platte.

She was preceded in death by her husband, 13 children and her parents.

Mass Of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. today at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Platteville. Burial will be in the Mizpah Cemetery in Platteville.

Stoddard Funeral Home of Greeley is in charge.
