Charles David Schultz

GOTHENBURG - Charles David Schultz, formerly of Gothenburg, died Feb. 24, 2001, at his home in Omaha. He was 53.

He was born Sept. 30, 1947, at Fort Smith, Ark., to Harold Raymond and Frances Bertha Ostendorf Schultz. He was baptized Feb. 19, 1948, in the American Lutheran Church in Gothenburg, where he became a member. He graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1968.

Mr. Schultz enjoyed bowling.

Surviving him is his mother of Gothenburg; a sister, Carol (Ronald) Ackerman of Omaha; a brother, Raymond (Ruth) Schultz of Gothenburg; and a nephew and niece, Jason and Rebecca Ackerman.

He was preceded in death by his father on Aug. 5, 1998.

Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.

The body was cremated.

A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. today at the American Lutheran Church in Gothenburg with the Revs. Wendy Ruetten and Mark Pfeiffer officiating. Burial of the cremains will be in the Gothenburg Cemetery.

Blase Memorial Chapel is in charge.

Dorothy Sweet

MULLEN - Dorothy Sweet, 93, a lifelong resident of Mullen, died March 1, 2001, at the Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home in Mullen.

She was born May 19, 1907, in Cherry County to Ben and Laura Willson Prentice. As a young girl, she was an avid baseball fan.

Her father was manager for the Prentice baseball team.

On Jan. 5, 1931, she married Clarence W. Sweet in Alliance.

Mrs. Sweet was a special person and a "mother" to many children in the area.

Surviving her are two daughters, Bonnie (Dick) Edelman of Mullen and Gloria Edelman of Arnold; three sons, Gaylord of Mullen, Paul (Hillary) of Hyannis and Ben (Deanna) of Rapid City, S.D.; a sister, Adeline Blunt of The Dalles, Ore.; 23 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two daughters, Martha and Kathryn; a son, Larry; her parents; two grandsons; a daughter-in-law; a son-in-law; two sisters; and five brothers.

Memorials may be made to the Mullen Ambulance Fund or Cedarview Cemetery or Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home, all in Mullen.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. MST today at the United Methodist Church in Mullen with the Rev. Delbert King officiating. Burial will be in the Cedarview Cemetery.

The Mullen Funeral Home in Mullen is in charge.

Earl Eugene Fletcher

STERLING, Colo. - Earl Eugene Fletcher, 54, of Sterling, Colo., formerly of North Platte, died Feb. 27, 2001, in Denver.

He was born Aug. 9, 1946, in North Platte to Orvel and Rachel Applegarth Fletcher. He attended school in North Platte and Sterling. In 1980, he returned to North Platte and began working for the Union Pacific Railroad, where he was a fireman-oiler. He was forced to retire because of ill health.

He enjoyed fishing, building model cars, and auto repair.

Mr. Fletcher is survived by a daughter, Serena (Franklin) Dowhower of North Platte; two sons, Tracy of North Platte and Kerry (Michelle) of Sterling; his mother Rachel Smotherman of Sterling; six sisters, Shirley Campbell, Rita (Rick) Buss, Debra (Dee) Bowen, Roberta (Richard) Dietz, Jerre Fletcher and Brenda Taylor, all of Sterling; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father; a sister, Beverly; and a brother, Duane.

A memorial has been established.

Services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Tennant Funeral Home in Sterling with the Rev. John Spence. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Sterling.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at the Tennant Funeral Home.

Daniel B. Henry Jr.

COZAD - Dan Henry Jr. of Cozad died Feb. 28, 2001, at the Cozad Hospital. He was 65.

He was born Jan. 13, 1936, at Stapleton to Daniel and Evelyn Ash Henry. He attended school in Stapleton and California, and graduated from Cozad High School.

On Aug. 8, 1954, he married Norma Clark at Elwood. They lived in Lexington, California and rural Cozad before moving into Cozad. He was an assistant manager for Howell Lumber Co. for several years before becoming an independent construction contractor. In addition to carpentry, he also raised cattle. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was a former president of the Cozad Volunteer Fire Department, a member of a bass fishing club, the Nebraska Chapter of Safari International, a former member of the Cozad Elks Lodge, the Lions Club and the Jaycees.

Mr. Henry is survived by his wife; four sons, Rick (Wendy) of Eustis, Dan (special friend Tania) of Lincoln and Chris (Nancy) and Jon (Denise), all of Cozad; a sister, Margaret "Peg" Henry of Arlington, Texas; two brothers, Dennis "Buzz" (Karen) of Lexington and Jim (Sue) of Arlington, Texas; and 10 grandchildren, Silke, Mindy, Ross, Zachery, Cuyler, Matt, Carly, Gavin, Kara and Cameron.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial has been established.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Church of Christ on Newell in Cozad with the Rev. Roger Sloan officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery south of Cozad.

Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad is in charge.

Daisy F. Rundback

Daisy Frances Ellen Rundback, 96, of Ringgold died March 1, 2001, at Premier Estates.

She was born Jan. 2, 1905, to Arch and Theresa Robinson Trembly at Kearney. She grew up in Flats.

On April 21, 1926, she married Herbert Rundback. He preceded her in death Nov. 24, 1960. The couple lived in the Thune area before moved to North Platte, where they ran the Lemon Café. They also lived in the Sutherland area, where they farmed and ranched. In 1940, they moved to Ringgold. After retiring in 1980, she moved to Stapleton.

She was a member of the Ringgold Free Methodist Church since 1992, the Senior Quilting Group and the Stapleton Senior Center. She enjoyed gardening, especially her flowers.

Mrs. Rundback is survived by three daughters, Mary (Timothy) Lake of Tryon, Hazel (Robert) Wolf of Stapleton and Irene (Gary) Branham of North Platte; a son, Carl (Barbara) of Ringgold; a niece, Eva (Al) Bellinger of Lodi, Calif.; a nephew, Charlie (Glenda) Trembly of Texas; 13 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Joan Gaites.

She was also preceded in death by a grandchild, Judy Patterson; an infant great-grandchild, Tony Wolf; and a brother, Ronald Trembly.

Memorials are suggested to the church.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Ringgold Free Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Christopher officiating. Burial will be in the North Platte Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon until 5:30 p.m. today. and from noon until 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte.

Kathryn McCaslin

BROKEN BOW — Kathryn Elizabeth McCaslin, 83, of Broken Bow died March 2, 2001, at the Jennie Melham Hospital in Broken Bow.

She was born Oct. 8, 1917, at Stockholm to Robert Hall and Osia Mae Housel Johnson. When she was 2 years old, the family moved to the Dry Valley community in Custer County. She attended school in Dry Valley and graduated from Dry Valley High School in 1935, as Valedictorian. After high school, she attended Kearney Teachers College and taught for a year at Swiss Valley.

On June 8, 1937, she married George Leland "Boots" McCaslin at Kearney. They made their home in Rose Valley and later moved to Senate Valley. Her husband died Jan. 26, 1974. She continued to live on the farm and worked at Family Resources in Broken Bow. In 1979, she moved into Broken Bow and was a ward clerk at the hospital and later was assistant activity director at Heritage Hall Nursing Home. In May 1998, she moved into Independence Hall in Broken Bow.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Family Consumer Economics Extension Club. She enjoyed growing flowers, painting ceramics and reading poetry.

Mrs. McCaslin is survived by a daughter, Sandra (Don) Anderson of Broken Bow; three sons, Norval "Mac"(Barbara) of Columbus, Ohio, Harold (Judy Devine) of Broken Bow and Don (Nancy) of Tilden; a sister, Gwen (Emil) Olson of Broken Bow; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Fund or the Independence Hall in Broken Bow.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow with the Rev. Leon Zimmerman officiating. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. today, with the family receiving friends from 1 to 3 p.m. at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.

Edward LaVern Cheever

Edward LaVern Cheever, 56, of North Platte died March 3, 2001, in Lincoln.

He was born Nov. 6, 1944, in North Platte to Charles and Viola Cooper Cheever. He lived in and around North Platte all of his life and worked on ranches in the Sandhills.

On July 18, 1969, he married Rosemary E. Wiese at Mullen and they had two children.

Mr. Cheever is survived by a daughter, Tresa (Matthew) Steele and their children, Jessie, Katie and Tanner of Mullen; a son, Timothy (Trisha) of North Platte; four sisters, Velma Carlson, Joanne (Bob) Forrey, Virginia (Sony) Fischer and Billie Jo (Dale) Smith, all of North Platte, and Joyce Tyan of Omaha; three brothers, Glenn (Alice) Cheever of North Platte, Tom (Darlene) Cheever of California and Albert (Betty) Cheever of Sterling, Colo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Yvonne.

There will be a memorial dinner at 6 p.m. Friday in the Hampton Inn meeting room for close friends and family. There will be no other services.

Marlys Arlene Harlin

Marlys Arlene Harlin, 79, of North Platte died March 3, 2001, at Linden Court.

She was born July 7, 1921, at Sumner to Roy and Beatrice Memberry Radcliff. She was raised in the Sumner area and graduated from Sumner High School in 1938. She attended the North Platte Business School for a year.

She met her future husband, S.B. "Slim" Harlin in North Platte and they were married Nov. 18, 1942. They lived in the Lincoln County area and in Burlington, Colo., settling in North Platte.

Mrs. Harlin attended the First Assembly of God Church. She was a member of the Sumner Alumni Association, Parent-Teacher Association while her children were in school, and she taught various Sunday school classes.

She enjoyed embroidery, flowers, reading and baby-sitting. She was always happy to baby-sit the neighbors' children. Her family and the Lord were important to her.

Surviving her are two daughters, Linda (Arvin) Stahl of Paonia, Colo., and Marlys (Monte) Nicholson of College Station, Texas; two sons, Rudy (Carolyn) of Livermore, Colo., and Gary (Terry) of North Platte; a sister, Donna (Vernon) Horn of Lincoln; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters and three brothers.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Steven Bell of First Assembly of God Church in North Platte officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte.

Walter Hart

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Walter Hart of Riverside, Calif., grandfather of Cleve Hartman of North Platte and brother of Herman Hart of Cozad, died from complications due to cancer March 3, 2001, at Parkview Hospital in Riverside. He was 95.

He was born in Cozad and had lived in Riverside the past 11 years. He worked in earth construction for 36 years in Nebraska, Colorado and Wyoming before moving to California. He retired from Hunt's Foods in California after nine years.

Mr. Hart was a member of the Elks Lodge for many years.

He is also survived by a daughter, Phyllis (Warren) Johnston of Riverside; six grandchildren, including Cleve Hartman of North Platte; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Herman Hart of Cozad.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Roarke Hart, and a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Herb Hartman.

Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. today at Magnolia Retirement Home in Riverside. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Westminster (Calif.) Memorial Park.
