Barbara D. Lebedz
OMAHA - Barbara D. Lebedz of Omaha, wife of former North Platte resident Steven Lebedz and daughter-in-law of George and Joyce Lebedz of North Platte, died Feb. 25, 2001, in Omaha. She was 48.
She was born June 6, 1952, in Sioux Falls, S.D., to Donald and Shirley Blosch Dayton.
In November 1977, she married Steven Lebedz in Omaha.
Mrs. Lebedz had taught English at Bryan High School in Omaha following her graduation in 1974 from Dana College at Blair. In 1990, she was one of the winners of the $10,000 Alice Buffet Outstanding Teacher Award.
Surviving her is her husband; two daughters, Elizabeth Ann and Julie J., both at home; her mother of Omaha; a brother, Stuart (Jerrie) Dayton of Omaha; and a nephew, Maxwell Dayton of Omaha.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army.
A memorial service was Feb. 28, 2001, at the Dundee Presbyterian Church in Omaha.

James Eugene Miller
LEXINGTON - James Eugene Miller, 64, died March 3, 2001, at his home in Lexington following a long bout with cancer.
He was born Sept. 6, 1936, to Merle and Rose Ensley Miller at Gilmore City, Iowa.
On Aug. 19, 1978, he married Victoria Robinson at Lexington. He worked for Orthman Manufacturing in Lexington and Allmand Brothers in Holdrege.
Mr. Miller was a U.S. Army veteran and enjoyed volunteering at the Heartland Military Museum at Lexington. He also enjoyed operating a ham radio, spending time with his grandchildren and watching the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
Surviving him is his wife; three daughters, Jennifer Strickland and Amy Miller, both of Lexington, and Chrystal Anderson of Cozad; three sons, Michael Miller of Lexington, Glen Strickland of Sterling, Colo., and Bart Greene of Fort Dodge, Iowa; his mother, Rose McCarty of Spencer, Iowa; and 14 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Brett; his father; and his stepfather, Charles McCarty.
Memorials are suggested to the Heartland Military Museum, ham-radio division.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington with the Rev. Jim Nichols officiating. Burial will be in the Robb Cemetery at Lexington.
The casket will be closed at the funeral service. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington.
Robert I. Stockall
Robert Irvin Stockall, 83, of North Platte died March 5, 2001, at Centennial Park Retirement Village in North Platte.
He was born Sept. 25, 1917, at Arnold to Alfred George and Bertha Lathrop Stockall. He grew up in Logan County on the farm and ranch. He graduated from Gandy High School in 1934. He stayed on the farm and worked for his father.
On Feb. 7, 1940, he married Grace Marie Dillon at Arnold. She preceded him in death.
Mr. Stockall worked in Washington, D.C., during World War II with the Railroad Retirement Board. He then transferred to Chicago and was there about a year. They moved to North Platte in 1945.
He went to work for the Pacific Fruit Express. He later worked for Roberts Dairy until he retired. After retiring, he worked part time at First National Bank.
On Aug. 6, 1978, he married Nadine D. Nall Corey at North Platte.
He coached Little League. An avid camper, he began the local chapter of the Rolling Platters. He was also a member of the National Campers and Hikers Association. He was active in Boy Scouts of America and received the Silver Beaver Award and attended three national jamborees. He was a life-time member of the Parent-Teacher Association, and a member of Inter-Church Reserve and the Lincoln County Historical Society.
He was a 30-year member of the North Platte First Presbyterian Church, where he had served as a deacon and elder. He had also been a member of First Christian Church, Eagles Aerie 2839 and the Teamsters Union.
He is survived by a daughter, Linda (Howard) Morrison of North Platte; two sons, Roger (Sandra) of Hershey and Lynn of North Platte; five grandchildren, Sara (Tony) Anway, Justin and Casey Stockall, Daniel (Jennifer) Morrison and Susan (James) Yelinek; five great-grandchildren, Tyler, Ryan and Jacob Morrison and Hannah and Emily Yelinek; a daughter-in-law, Vicki Stockall of Whitman; and nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death was his wife, Grace; a son, Michael K. "Doc;" a sister, Dorothy Smee; a brother, Vernon Stockall; and a granddaughter.
Memorials are suggested to the Boy Scouts of North Platte.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at First Christian Church with the Rev. Steven Jergensen officiating. Burial will be in the Arnold Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and Wednesday at Odean Colonial Chapel in North Platte.
Frances Haines
BROKEN BOW - Frances Pauline Haines, 88, of Broken Bow died March 5, 2001, at Jennie Melham Hospital in Broken Bow.
She was born Aug. 24, 1912, in Webster County to Edward and Katherine Wunschel Peper. She attended school in Webster County.
On May 15, 1934, she married Ernest Haines at St. Stephen's Church south of Lawrence. In 1956, they moved to Broken Bow. She later moved to Grand Island and then to Green River before returning to Broken Bow in 1992.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, May Circle and the Altar Society. She enjoyed fishing, football and baseball.
Mrs. Haines is survived by two daughters, Ardys (Paul) Trent of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., and Verla (Robert) Myers of Hastings; two sons, Royce (Denise) of Hastings and Linus (Shelly) of Alliance; a sister-in-law, Alice Peper of Hastings; 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1966; a son, Norvon; her parents; two sisters, Lula Ostdick and Florence Peper; and two brothers, Eldon and Clarence Peper.
Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph's Altar Society in Broken Bow.
Christian Wake service will be at 7 p.m. today at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church in Broken Bow with the Rev. Todd Philipsen officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow.
Sadie J. Fichtner
Sadie J. Fichtner, 90, of North Platte died March 5, 2001, at Centennial Park Nursing Home.
She was born May 5, 1910, in Hayes County to Taylor and Nora Belle Schaffer Ward. She graduated from Hayes County High School in 1927 and attended the University of Nebraska for two years, where she obtained her teaching degree. She then taught school for 12 years.
She married Melvin Fichtner and they lived on a farm in Hayes County before moving to Curtis, where they lived for a number of years. In 1988, she moved to North Platte.
She was a member of the Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Fichtner is survived by a brother, Boyd (Dorothy) Ward of Sun City, Ariz.; 12 nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Sharon Lee Fichtner; two sisters, Minnie Pinn and Nellie Wolfe; a brother, Elmer; and an infant brother.
Memorials are suggested to Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Carl Pullman officiating. Burial will be in the Maywood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte and before services Thursday at the church.
LeRoy 'Ding' Olson
BROKEN BOW - LeRoy "Ding" Olson, 77, of Broken Bow died March 5, 2001, at Sandhills Manor Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
He was born Aug. 1, 1923, at Oconto to Frank Walter and Mary E. Whipple Olson. He graduated from Anselmo High School.
On Jan. 5, 1944, he married Bertha Mae Kruse. They had four sons.
On Dec. 31, 1978, he married Elaine Pettinger.
He was baptized in the Lillian Church of Christ and was a former member of the Broken Bow Elks Lodge.
Mr. Olson is survived by a daughter-in-law, Willa Olson of Johnson Lake; two sons, Rod (Berta) of Broken Bow and Jerry (Rose) of Long Beach, Miss.; six sisters, Luella Spanel of Wasco, Calif., Alma Leonard of Bakersfield, Calif., Irene White of Sargent, Rosalie Greer of Grand Island, and Carol Myers and Dee Cunningham, both of Merna; four brothers, Loyd and Marion Olson, both of Merna, Kenneth Olson of Lexington and Wayne Olson of North Platte; 10 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Danny and Dennis; two sisters, Norma Gilligan and Florence Reynolds; two brothers, Olen Olson and an infant brother; a grandchild, Christina Olson; and a great-grandchild.
Memorials may be made to the family.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Evangelical Free Church in Broken Bow with the Rev. Jeff Nielsen officiating. Burial will be in the Merna Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Richard C. 'Big Rich' Radway
Richard Charles "Big Rich" Radway of North Platte died March 4, 2001, at his home. He was 53.
He was born Aug. 20, 1947, to Raymond Charles and Madge Nellie Bell Radway at Los Angeles.
Mr. Radway is survived by a daughter, Kathleen (Richard Randall) Davis of Alta Loma, Calif.; a son Robert (Diana Marie) of Westminster, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Ryan and Karlene Radway.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at His Place, 1204 West A, with Job Vigil officiating.
The body was cremated and there will be no visitation.
Odean Colonial Chapel in North Platte is in charge.
Kenneth D. Wilson
OGALLALA - Kenneth D. Wilson of Ogallala died March 5, 2001, at the Ogallala Community Hospital. He was 79.
He was born July 25, 1921, at Trenton to Thomas and Eliza Seybold Wilson. He grew up and attended school in Trenton. He served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Following his discharge, he returned to the Trenton area.
On July 1, 1960, he married Louis McKean Rogers. They moved to Ogallala in the mid- 1960s. He was employed at various jobs including the construction of the dam at Trenton and the construction of Interstate 80.
He was an avid fan of the Ogallala Indian High School athletics.
Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife; a stepdaughter, Ardie (Loren) Engler of Paxton; a son, Jarold T. (Kathleen) of Fort Lupton, Colo.; four grandchildren, Michelle (Travis) Amidon, Mark Wilson, Debbie (Jeff) Moorhous and Rene (Rich) Engel; five great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parentsm a sister and two brothers.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Ogallala Cemetery with military honors by the Keith County veterans' organizations
