Charlotte D. Woodall

Charlotte Dorothy Woodall, 78, of North Platte died March 5, 2001, at the Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.

She was born March 25, 1922, to Roy Beeler and Ida Steffenhasen Schoonover at Weatherford, Texas. She was raised and attended school in Texas, where she graduated from high school.

She married Charles D. Woodall, who preceded her in death May 20, 1984.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Maxwell and enjoyed quilting and crafts. In her younger years she also enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.

Mrs. Woodall is survived by two daughters, LaRue (Tom) Mengel of Maxwell and Carrie Clark of California; two sons, Dan Cobb and Dennis (Heidi) Cobb of Lamesa, Texas; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Glen and John Kearsey.

Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church in Maxwell

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. today at Adams & Swanson Chapel with the Rev. Bob Townsend officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Amarillo, Texas.

Adams & Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte is in charge.

Minerva Anna 'Tootie' Everley

WHITTIER, Calif. - Minerva Anna "Tootie" Everley, 80, formerly of North Platte, died Aug. 4, 2001, at the Presbyterian Hospice House in Whittier, Calif.

She was born Jan. 4, 1921, in North Platte to Fred and Pearl Campbell Howe.

On March 29, 1947, she married Clyde Vernon Everley of Maxwell.

She enjoyed square dancing and cake decorating and was an avid bowler. She took interest in activities at the Mount Hope United Church of Christ. She was active in the women's sewing group, helping to make quilts to raise money for the church. In recent years, she was a member of the Brea Congregational United Church of Christ.

Mrs. Everley is survived by her daughter, Beverley (Bill) Schlapper of La Mirada; a granddaughter, Susan (Jeff) Pawlowski of Lodi, Calif.; a sister Arlene Sawyer of North Platte; three nieces; and two nephews.

Her husband preceded her in death Feb. 29, 2000.

Hilda Murphy

OMAHA - Hilda Murphy, 79, of Omaha, formerly of North Platte, died March 6, 2001.

She was born Nov. 20, 1921, to Richard and Elizabeth Halton Leadbetter in St. Helen's, England.

Mrs. Murphy is survived by two daughters, Linda (Mike) Casteel and Jane (Jon) Scott, all of Omaha; a son, James (Tammy) Murphy of Omaha; five grandchildren, David, Mark, Shayla, Aimee and Andy; four sisters, Jane Rigby and Brenda Perrior, both of England, Joan Sauerwein of California and Mina Ebsen of Washington; a brother, Richard Leadbetter of England; and numerous niece and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Murphy; three sisters; and three brothers.

Memorials are suggested to the Algent Hospice.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at John A. Gentleman Westside Chapel in Omaha.

Emma Parr

BROKEN BOW - Emma Parr, 86, formerly of Broken Bow, died Feb. 26, 2001, at the Hospice of the Valley Care Facility in Mesa, Ariz.

She was born March 1, 1915, to James and Frances Tvrdik Pazderka in Comstock. She graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1932.

On July 30, 1936, she married Lloyd W. "Pete" Parr in Aurora. She worked with her husband in the family poultry business in Broken Bow for 40 years until they retired.

She volunteered with Job's Daughters, American Red Cross Hospital Aid and the American Heart Association. She was a Girl Scout leader, a Sunday school teacher and the first president of the Broken Bow United Methodist Women, and she volunteered with the Hospice of the Valley in Arizona for five years. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, china painting and playing the organ.

Mrs. Parr is survived by a daughter, Marilyn (Jim) Girardin of Broken Bow; a granddaughter, Peggy (Jeff) Franklin of Mesa; two grandsons, Jim (Deb) Girardin of Broken Bow and Jeff (Carine) Girardin of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a sister, Helen Stone; six great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and many other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a sister; and a brother.

Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or a hospice organization of the donor's choice.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Broken Bow with the Rev. Charles Spencer officiating. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.

Viola Sauer

OGALLALA - Viola Sauer, 88, of Ogallala died March 6, 2001, at Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala.

She was born Nov. 22, 1912, in Hardy to Herman and Christine Seitz Schoff. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith and attended parochial school in Byron. She was confirmed in the Lutheran Church June 1, 1925, in Byron. In 1928, she moved with her family to a farm in Perkins County.

On Dec. 25, 1932, she married John Sauer in North Platte. The couple made their home in Ogallala and he worked for the railroad.

In 1945, they purchased a farm between Big Springs and Brule.

They retired in 1973 and moved to Ogallala. Her husband died April 2, 1983. She moved to the Lewellen Nursing Home in 1991, and then to Indian Hills Manor in February 2001.

She enjoyed gardening and quilting and was member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Sauer is survived by a daughter, Geraldine (Kenneth) Heidemann of Big Springs; two sons, Robert (Cara) Sauer of Ogallala and Ronald (Geneva) Sauers of Julesburg, Colo.; a brother, Allen Schoff of Kimball; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; a stepgreat-great grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials are suggested to the St. Paul's Lutheran Church debt reduction.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. David Dobbertien officiating. Burial will be in the Ogallala Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at the Draucker Funeral Home in Ogallala.

Sharon Lee Drake Swart

DODGE CITY, Kan. - Sharon Lee Drake Swart, 53, formerly of North Platte, died March 6, 2001, at her home.

She was born Feb. 25, 1948, in Denver to Carl and Mickey Drake.

She lived on the family farm in Kalvesta, Kan., until they moved to Dodge City, where she attended Lincoln School and Dodge City junior and senior high schools.

She worked for many years at Cimmaron Insurance and managed the Thunderbird Hotel. She also lived and managed a motel for nine years in Woodward, Okla., and then moved to North Platte, where she managed the Stanford Motel.

She was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Mrs. Swart is survived by her husband, Robert; a daughter, Jenny Rich of Dodge City; three stepdaughters, Cassandra Swart of Grand Island, and Adrienne Konrady and Sara Swart, both of Dodge City; three sisters, Cheryl Fillinger of San Rafael, Calif., Sherry Flair of Clovis, N.M., and Shirley Gilbert of Salem, Ore.; seven grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established at U.S. Bank.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Swaim Funeral Home in Dodge City.

Elinor Fern Wagner

GOTHENBURG - Elinor Fern Wagner, 84, of Gothenburg died March 6, 2001, at her home.

She was born July 20, 1916, to William and Amanda Voecks Kirstein at Meadow Groves.

On Oct. 24, 1937, she married Clyde Wagner at Antelope Creek Church at Elgin. He preceded her in death May 26, 1996.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking family dinners, gardening and growing house plants, especially African violets. She also enjoyed crafts.

Mrs. Wagner is survived by two daughters, Gaylene Scarrow and Melgene Patterson, both of Gothenburg; two sons, Leon (Karen) of Funk and Lorin (Carol) of Gothenburg; 11 grandchildren, Kim (Curt) Madsen of Neligh, Kevin Wagner of Perry, Kan., Jason (Lisa) Wagner, Mike Wagner, Mitch Wagner, and Shawn (Lorrie) Scarrow, all of Gothenburg, Karla (Kelly) Smith and Damon Scarrow, all of Cozad, and Deanna (Matt) Lessig, James Patterson, and Jason (Tara) Patterson, all of Lexington; 18 great-grandchildren, Bridget, Nathanial, Hilary, Savanna, Toshia and Britteny Patterson, Ashley, Chelcie, Sara Jane and Joey Lessig, Carrick, Michelle, Tyler and Shanna Scarrow, Katlin, Chance and Lane Smith, and Cody Madsen; a sister, Esther Williams of Detroit Lakes, Minn.; four sisters-in-law, Opal Kirstein of Gothenburg and Evelyn Binger, Wilma Beelart, and Glady Keil, all of Neligh; and nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Louise; three brothers Erwin, Everitt and Lloyd; and two great-granddaughters, Carissa Madsen and Kelsey Smith.

Memorials are suggested to the Great Plains Home Health and Hospice in North Platte.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Blase Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg. Burial will be in the Gothenburg Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Blase Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg.

Stanley R. Danekas

Stanley R. Danekas, 91, died March 6, 2001, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.

He was born May 18, 1909, to Fred and Wilhelmina Tavis Danekas at the family home near Milford in Seward County. He attended country school through the eighth grade in Seward County and graduated from Milford High School in 1925. He was active in all sports and especially 4-H. He was particularly proud of his 4-H experience. In 1924, he won the Livestock Judging Contest. He also won the state competition and went on to the national contest and won individual honors from the Chicago Livestock Exchange. As a result of his success at the Chicago National Livestock Exposition, he won top individual honors, for which he received the Chicago Stockyard Scholarship to the University of Nebraska. After finishing school, he farmed and fed and bought cattle and hogs until 1935. About 1930, he started buying cattle in the Sandhills, which got him started in the ranching business.

On Jan. 18, 1936, he married Florence Beguin in Chadron. In 1937, they bought a ranch north of Thedford, and lived there all their lives. His wife continued to teach after they were married and he worked the ranch.

He was a member of the Evangelical Church near Milford and transferred his membership to the Thedford United Church of Christ. He was active in all Masonic bodies, including the Demolet.

He was a past Master of Seneca Lodge, and past patron of Eastern Star. He was a Knight Templar, a 33rd degree mason and a member of the Tehama Shrine of Hastings, and the North Platte and Sandhills Shrine Clubs. He was also active in the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of Broken Bow, Lodge No. 1688 and served as Exalted Ruler. He served as state president of the Elks, as Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler of the Grand Lodge and was voted honorary life member of the Order of Does.

Though they had no children of their own, they cared about children and would provide a place for many youngsters to go for a summer job or for some tender loving discipline and encouragement. That was how he and Bill Elliott first became involved together. They became very close and worked together for many years on the ranch. Bill remains on the ranch to this day.

Mr. Danekas was an excellent shot with a shotgun and took up the sport of trap shooting in 1925. He attended many trap shooting events. He and his wife traveled around the country to different shoots. He won a position on the International Shooters Union at the Olympics in 1958, which were held in Moscow, Russia. At the end of the 1993 season, he had shot 552,100 sixteen-yard targets. He was a life member of the Amateur Trap Shooting Association as well as a life member of Nebraska State Sports Association, having served nine years as a director and three terms as state president. He was elected in the Nebraska Trap Shooters Hall of Fame.

As a young man, he contracted polio and Malta Fever, which caused him discomfort and problems in his hip for years. He served as an officer in every organization he belonged to. He was Cherry County Commissioner for seven years and served as chairman of the county board for three years. He was also a member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels. He was particularly active in charitable work for the organizations that he was a member of. He was particularly interested in helping crippled children through the Shriners.

He is survived by nieces; nephews; sisters-in-law and many, many friends.

Memorials are suggested to the Thomas and Cherry County Libraries.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1997, his parents; his sisters; and a brother.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Thedford United Church of Christ with the Rev. Linda Martin officiating. The body will be cremated after the service.

Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte and from 11:30 a.m. to service time Monday at the church.

Mary Frances Easton

Mary Frances Easton, 80, of North Platte died March 7, 2001.

She was born Oct. 26, 1920, near Sumner to George W. and Grace Gilbert Shepardson. She grew up on a farm between Sumner and Lexington, and attended country school near Sumner and Lexington, graduating from Lexington High School in 1939. Following graduation she moved to North Platte where she worked for the Sixth Street Food Stores and Hansen and Fuenning Accountants.

She married March Harry Easton, and they lived in Cheyenne, Wyo., where she worked at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens, now known as Wiederspahn-Radonsky Chapel. In 1972, her husband preceded her in death. In 1978, she moved to North Platte and worked for Hansen and Fuenning Accountants until 1994, when she retired.

She loved to garden, read, raise houseplants and bring home treasures from auctions.

Mrs. Easton is survived by a daughter, Ronna Rea Easton of Denver; a son, March Easton II of Texas; a granddaughter, Rachel Rea (Chad) Pinger-Easton of Lincoln; a great-granddaughter, Kiwi Rea Pinger-Easton; two sisters, Frances Grace Warner of Lexington and Marjorie Hurley of South Sioux City; a sister-in-law, Margaret D. Easton of North Platte; a brother-in-law, Carl Engelbrecht of Twin Falls, Idaho; and many other nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Marion "Mike" and Stephen Adams.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, Colon Research.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington with the Rev. Dan Cosson officiating. The casket will be closed. Burial will be in the Sumner Cemetery.

Register book signing will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington.
