Sarah L. Bowman

OGALLALA - Sarah L. Bowman, 69, of Ogallala died March 13, 2001, at the Ogallala Community Hospital.

She was born Feb. 23, 1932, at Pistol Ridge, Miss., to Wallace and Anna Curtis. She grew up and attended school in Mississippi, graduating from Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hattiesburg, Miss., in 1951.

On June 26, 1954, she married Thomas C. Bowman at Keesler Air Force Base, Miss. They moved to Ogallala following his discharge in 1955. She was employed at Bowman's Ready To Wear, Four Season's Clothing Store and Edgar's Jewelry until her retirement.

She was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church and the Alter Society. She had served as Sentinel in the Women of the Moose and had been selected by the Business and Professional Women as Woman of the Year.

Mrs. Bowman is survived by her husband; and two sons, Ted of Ogallala and Curt of Misawa, Japan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Donald and Orville Curtis.

A memorial has been established.

Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Thursday at Gubser Funeral Home in Ogallala.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Ogallala with the Rev. John Schlaf as celebrant. Inurnment will be Monday in Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of the rosary Thursday at Gubser Funeral Home in Ogallala.

Maxine Darlene Haugland

Maxine Darlene Haugland, 78, of North Platte died March 11, 2001, at Linden Court.

She was born March 4, 1923, at Denver to Daniel and Maude Mefford O'Connell.

On March 21, 1948, she married Theodore Haugland at Hershey. She was a telephone operator for NorthWestern Bell in California and then lived in Auburn before moving to North Platte.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Eagles Auxiliary, Rebekah Lodge and the Does.

Mrs. Haugland is survived by two sons, Larry (Jayne) Tesar of Denver, and Danny (Charlotte) Haugland of Chatsworth, Ga.; a half brother, Junior "Wayne" Watson of Brighton, Colo.; five grandchildren, Karla Valiente and Cathy, Elizabeth, Daniel and Kari Haugland; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and three sisters, Norine Carr, Wilma Benkosky and Fern Larson.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Carpenter Memorial Chapel with the Rev. David Lux of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte.

Douglas Humphrey Kramer

EDGEMONT, S.D. - Douglas Humphrey Kramer, 71, of Edgemont, S.D., formerly of Garden County, died March 11, 2001, at Rapid City, S.D.

He was born Oct. 4, 1929, in Hooker County to Charles H. and Zepher Coons Kramer. He grew up in Arthur County and attended school in Curtis.

On June 19, 1952, he married Julia Miller. They lived on the family ranch in Arthur County and he was a ranchhand. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Korea Conflict until ill health caused his discharge.

Mr. Kramer is survived by three children, Cacey Kramer of Douglass, Wyo., Rockey Lee of Texas, and Cindy (Ralph) Fullerton of Cody; two sisters, Frances L. (Jack) McConnell of Lewellen and Kathleen (Ronnie) Arnett of Clifton, Colo.; a brother, Chancey L. (Alberta) Kramer of Gordon; five grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two children; his parents; a sister; and two brothers.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Grace Lutheran Church in Lewellen with Dallas Walker officiating. Burial will follow in the Ash Hollow Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the church or the donor's choice.

Friends may sign the register book today at the Holchek Funeral Home in Oshkosh or Thursday at the church. Viewing will be Thursday at the church.

Rhoda Kreutz

Rhoda Kreutz, 78, of North Platte, formerly of Aurora, died March 13, 2001, in North Platte.

She was born March 24, 1922, in Harvard to Irvin and Hilda Hein Brenneman. She graduated from Harvard High School.

On Aug. 19, 1942, she married Max A. Kreutz at Kearney. They farmed near Harvard until the spring of 1944, when they moved to a farm near Aurora. They later moved into Aurora. Her husband died in October 1978. She enjoyed several winters in Oregon and in 1998 moved to North Platte to be near her daughter.

Mrs. Kreutz is survived by her daughter, Judy (Charles) Thompson of North Platte; a granddaughter, Melissa (Shawn) Gilbert of North Platte; a great-grandson, Cole Gilbert of North Platte; two sisters, Jacqueline Hughes of El Centro, Calif., and Delores Taylor of Albuquerque; a sister-in-law, Norma Kreutz of Phillips; and a brother-in-law, Dick (Lois) Kreutz of Phillips.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; and a niece, Patricia Kreutz.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Aurora with the Rev. Dr. Joe Scahill officiating. A private family burial will be in the Harvard Cemetery prior to the service.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Higby Mortuary in Aurora.

Richard McVay

FEDERAL HEIGHTS, Colo. - Richard McVay, 70, of Federal Heights, Colo., formerly of Sutherland died March 11, 2001, in Denver after sustaining injuries in a car accident.

He was born Feb. 25, 1931, to Lawson E. and Freda Sauer McVay in Nebraska.

Mr. McVay is survived by his wife, Lucy; five daughters, Carolyn (Quentin) Weller, Sherryo (Keith) Barbier, Laurie (Mike) Riddle, Rachele (Steve) Brecht and Roxann Gurule; a son, Randy (Michelle) McVay; five brothers, Orville McVay of Omaha, Robert (Mary) McVay of Englewood, Colo., Don (Maryann) McVay of North Platte, Alvin (Trudy) McVay of Sterling, Colo., and Marvin (Connie) McVay of Lakewood, Colo.; and 16 grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today at the Newcomber Funeral Home in Denver. Burial will be at noon Friday in the Ogallala Cemetery with the Rev. Craig Patterson of St. John's Lutheran Church officiating.

Harry M. Rouse

JOHNSON LAKE - Harry M. Rouse, 82, of Johnson Lake died March 12, 2001, at the Tri-County Hospital in Lexington.

He was born Aug. 13, 1918, at Rocky Mount, N.C., to Harry Mahone and Ruth Rouse. When he was 4 years old, they moved to Hopewll, Va. He attended Randolph Macon College.

On Aug. 31, 1940, he eloped with Marian Elizabeth Jones at Elizabeth City, N.C. They enjoyed their first elopement so much that on Oct. 19, 1941, they eloped again at New York City. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and in 1947, they moved to Colorado to work with his brother-in-law at Ray Carson Machinery Co. In 1953, they purchased the company and formed Booth-Rouse Equipment Co. He retired in 1985.

In 1987, he received the Colorado Contractors Association Service Award, for his business, the first given in the state.

They bought a house on Johnson Lake in 1987 and began splitting their time between the lake home and a cottage on the James River in Virginia.

He was a third-degree Mason and Shriner. He enjoyed playing golf at the Overton Golf Course and the Lakeside Country Club. They also enjoyed traveling.

Mr. Rouse is survived by his wife; two daughters, Beth (Ray) Tesch of Wheatland, Wyo., and Nancy (Bill) Holen of Johnson Lake; a son, James (Karen) of Hayden Lake, Idaho; five grandchildren, Shelby and Bruce Forrester, both of Arnold, Shawn and Mike Holen, both of Johnson Lake, and Nicholas and Madison Rouse, both of Hayden Lake; two great-grandchildren, Robert Forrester of North Platte and Chase Forrester of Arnold; a sister, Molly Louise Booth of Hopewell; two sisters-in-law, Ellen Rouse and Ruth Jones, both of Hopewell; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Alex Rouse; and a brother-in-law, Jim Booth.

Memorials are suggested to the Shriner's Children's Hospital, the United Methodist Church in Lexington or the United Methodist Church in Hopewell.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington with the Rev. Todd Karges officiating. Burial will be in the Robb Cemetery south of Lexington.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington.

Dorothy O. Theobauld

Dorothy Opal Theobauld, 91, of Apache Junction, Ariz., formerly of North Platte, died March 11, 2001, at Apache Junction.

She was born Sept. 24, 1909, in Longmont, Colo., to Joseph W. and Maude Agnes Oyler Henderson. She grew up in the western Nebraska area, graduating from Grant High School in 1929.

On June 4, 1930, she married Clarence T. Miller in Holyoke, Colo. They lived in Colorado, Wyoming and Kansas before settling in Nebraska.

On Sept. 4, 1943, she married George Howard Theobauld at Atwood, Kan. He preceded her in death on June 15, 1999.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, was an avid reader, and enjoyed fanci-work.

Mrs. Thoebauld is survived by five daughters, Doris Hopping and Marilyn (Billy) Wiggers, all of North Platte, Donna (Dick) Johnson of The Villages, Fla., Shirley Baker of Apache Junction, and Geri Joyce (Harold) Goodman of Chesapeake, Va.; a son, David (Sung Hee) Theobauld of Chandler, Ariz.; two sisters, Zada Barney of Glendale, Ariz., and Lois Deisley of Red Cloud; 19 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; and special friends Art and Beth Jones of North Platte.

She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Robyn Hopping; a great-grandson, David Keith Griffin; her parents; a sister, Inez Kennedy; and two brothers, Del and Dick Henderson.

Memorials may be directed to the First Christian Church.

A memorial service will be today at Gilbert, Ariz.

Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens in North Platte with the Rev. Steven Jergensen officiating.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte.

William Thomas Hanson

OCONTO - William Thomas Hanson, 75, of Oconto died March 13, 2001, at the Callaway District Hospital.

He was born Oct. 17, 1925, on the family farm near Oconto to Thomas Sidney and Myrtle Marie Cole Hanson. He was baptized and confirmed in the First Lutheran Church at Buffalo in 1951, where he continued to be a member until his death.

He attended Lucky Star School and two years of high school in Oconto. He was in the U.S. Army from Jan. 18, 1944, to April 12, 1946, and served in Okinawa.

On April 12, 1950, he married Minnie Ropers at the First Lutheran Church in Buffalo. He spent his entire life on the family farm. He enjoyed attending the children's school activities and games.

Mr. Hanson was a permanent member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Surviving him is his wife; three daughters, Loretta Copper of Callaway, Lois Bennett of Oconto and Leona (Charles) Beason of Sumner; a son, Luke of Oconto; two sisters, Ann (Sam) Pederson of Orange Park, Fla., and Irene Jarrett of St. George, Utah; two brothers, Edward (Virginia) Hanson of Cozad and Robert (Dorothy) Hanson of Caldwell, Idaho; 11 grandchildren, Wilma, Alfred, Michel, Robert and Julie Copper, Jacob Bennett and Charles Jr., Rebecca, Raymond, Christopher and Goeffrey Beason; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lucy in November 1965; a son, Lee in June 1962; his parents; and a niece.

Memorials are suggested to the First Lutheran Church at Buffalo or the Oconto American Legion.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Lutheran Church at Buffalo with the Rev. Edwin Cook officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Oconto Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington.
