Oneita M. Sibal

OGALLALA — Oneita M. Sibal of Scottsbluff, formerly of Arthur and Ogallala, died March 30, 2001, at Beverly Health Care in Scottsbluff. She was 88.

She was born Dec. 20, 1912, in Smith County, Kan., to French and Bessie Fruit Smith. She attended rural schools in Arthur County.

In 1928, she married Alford “Boliver” Clapp. In 1935, she received her nursing training. She was employed in North Platte, Grant, Ogallala and Julesburg, Colo.

In 1939, she married Joe F. Sibal in Julesburg. They lived on the Sibal Ranch eight miles southwest of Arthur. In 1951, they purchased a motel in Thermopolis, Wyo. In 1960, they returned to Ogallala and in 1962 moved back to Arthur.

Survivors include five sons, Pat (Cathleen) Sibal of Kimball, Ron (Margrethe) of Hot Springs, S.D., Frenchie Clapp of Chico, Calif., Stan (Elane) of Casper, Wyo., and Harold (Nancy) Clapp of Scottsbluff; two sisters, Maxine Tippets of Lewellen and Vera Simmons of Las Vegas; 15 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, in 1984; a daughter, Anna Gale Clapp in 1932; a sister, Dorothy Aufdengarten; and three brothers, Dwayne, Verl and Jimmy Glenn Smith.

A memorial has been established.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Draucker Funeral Home with Duane Dunwoody officiating. Burial will be in the Ogallala Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Draucker Funeral Home.

Phyllis J. Nisley Fuller

LEXINGTON — Phyllis J. Nisley Fuller, 84, of Lexington, died March 29, 2001, at Tri-County Hospital in Lexington.

She was born Oct. 30, 1916, in Lexington to Samuel I. And Mary Ethel Harrow Nisley. She was a graduate of Lexington High School and Wesleyan University, and then obtained her master’s degree from Kearney State College. She taught for more than 30 years in and near Lexington.

Survivors include a daughter, Sally W. Haller of Lexington; a son, David D. Nisley of Modesto, Calif.; five grandchildren, Chris Arps of Dallas, Cathleen Maceda of Dallas, Tracee S. Bolen of Elsberry, Mo., David S. Nisley of San Diego, and Shannon E. Nisley-Calaghan of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and eight great-grandchildren, Amanda, Rex, Ross, Reese, Tommy, Arron, Avril and Ashley.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cal Fuller, and two brothers, Rex C. and Sam F. Nisley.

Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Lexington with the Rev. Floyd H. Starr officiating.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington.

Visitation will be Monday from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington.

A memorial has been established.

James Wendell Gast

James Wendell Gast, 65, father of Jayne Gast of North Platte, died March 29, 2001, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha.

He was born June 29, 1935, in Plainview, to Gustav and Mattie Butterfield Gast. He was educated at Plainview.

He married Sally Bomar Feb. 21, 1959, at Zion Lutheran Church in Plainview. Mr. Gast worked in insurance sales for 35 years and was an avid sports fan.

Survivors include his wife of Osmond; two sons, Brad (Pam) Gast of Brea, Calif., and Jeffrey Gast of Scottsdale, Ariz., two daughters, Jayne Gast of North Platte and Jackie (Marty) Kruse of Osmond; five sisters, Phyllis Canfield of Phoenix, Verleen Dickinson and Leona Nissen, both of Plainview, and Norma Gnewuch and Maureen Smith, both of Norfolk; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gerald and Raymond Gast; and two sisters, Winnie Olinger and Wilma Seevers.

Services are Monday at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Osmond with the Rev. Gary Trowbridge officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Osmond.

Visitation is today from 4-8 p.m. at Ashburn Funeral Home in Osmond.

Velma I. Sargent

COZAD — Velma Sargent, 90, died March 30, 2001, at the Southview Manor care home in Cozad.

She was born Nov. 2, 1910, near Bogue, Kan., to Arthur and Henrietta Fetterolk Wells. She grew up on a farm south of Lenora, Kan.

On Sept. 5, 1929, she married Laurence C. Sargent in Hill City, Kan. They made their home in Lenora until 1939, when they moved to Cozad.

Throughout the 1930s and 1940s, she and her husband did custom combining work from Texas through North Dakota, Mrs. Sargent doing the cooking for the crew. She and her husband were Nebraska International Flying Farmers and Ranchers members.

The couple enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, including Alaska, and Canada. Velma also enjoyed her family, gardening and boating.

Survivors include a son, Curtis (Betty) Sargent of Cozad; a daughter, Della Louise (Orin) Hendricks of Cozad; a grandson, Larry Hendricks of Cozad; two step-granddaughters, Terri (Jake) Ripp of Grand Island and Linda Oleson of Riverdale; and two step-great-granddaughters, Samanth and Sara Ripp.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1995; five sisters, Mabel Gibson, Mildred Swisher, Theo Bemis, Wilma Culp and Gladys McFerrin; and three brothers, Arthur Jr., Donald, and infant John Kenneth Wells.

A memorial has been established.

Services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Berryman Funeral Home Chapel in Cozad with Charles Garner officiating. Burial will be in Cozad Cemetery.

Visitation is today from 1-9 p.m. at Berryman Funeral Home.

Donald D. Borron

Donald Dean Borron, 76, of North Platte died April 8, 2001, at his home.

He was born Feb. 11, 1925, to Archibald William and Myrtle Grace Riley Borron at Paxton. He attended school in Paxton, graduating from Paxton High School in 1944. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II in the Pacific Theatre.

In 1945, he married Muriel Mortensen in Paxton. She preceded him in death in October 1955.

On Aug. 31, 1957, he married Alberta "Bert" Marie Sherman in Broadwater. The couple moved to North Platte, where he worked at Sears as a salesperson. After his retirement he worked for Whitaker's and Erickson's Furniture for 20 years. He enjoyed playing golf.

Mr. Borron is survived by his wife, Alberta; four daughters, Marlea (Vance) Post of North Platte, Nancy (Jim) Shimmin of Cheyenne, Wyo., Janene (Kenneth) Huffman, of Charlotte, N.C., and Margaret (Lloyd) German of Arnold; two sons, Richard (Joan) McNeel of London, England, and Michael (Cindy) Borron of Anderson, S.C.; a brother, Bob (Vita Merle) Borron of Nampa, Idaho;, a special son-in-law, Merle D. Reeves of North Platte; a half sister; two half brothers; 18 grandchildren, Steve, Bill and Kent Reeves, Andrew and Robert McNeel, Kandice Henning, Michelle, Troy and Sherilyn Shimmin, Peter Huffman, Donna Bisbee, Lee and Andi German, David and Brian Borron and Kathleen, Terry and Pat Quigley; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Myrtle Bailey; two brothers, Archie Keith and Arthur Borron; a half sister; and a half brother.

A memorial has been established to the Callahan Cancer Center or Great Plains Hospice.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bethel Evangelical Free Church with the Rev. Albert Neufeld officiating. Burial will be in Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell with military honors.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. today at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte.

Arden Raymond 'Art' Crandall

OVERTON - Arden Raymond "Art" Crandall, 72, of Overton, died April 6, 2001, at the Elwood Care Center in Elwood.

He was born Aug. 29, 1928, at Kinsley Kan., to Arden Raymond and Mildred Mae Montgomery Crandall.

He was a U.S. veteran, serving from 1945 to 1949 in the Air Force.

On June 12, 1976, he married Maureen Burr at the Chapel on the Lake at Johnson Lake.

He worked for the Village of Overton in maintenance. He also trained horses while living in California as a young man.

He enjoyed painting pictures, fishing, Nebraska football and golf.

He also enjoyed working crosswords and was a Boy Scout leader.

Mr. Crandall is survived by his wife; four daughters, Toni Ann (Jerry) Graybill of Pryor, Okla., Maradene Faye (Vernon) Perkins of Tulsa, Okla., Deborah Dianne (Robert) Hill of Tahlequah, Okla., and Theresa Doris (George) Kirk of Coweta, Okla.; five sons, Raymond (Kristine) of Wood Bridge, Va., Christopher of Overton, Arden Raymond III (Ronda) of Bartlesville, Okla., Calvin (JoAnne) of Tulsa, and Darrin (Deloris) of Muskogee, Okla.; two sisters, Pat Galvin of California and Arlene; a brother, Aldon Crandall of California; 27 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son; his parents; a sister; and a brother.

Memorials are suggested to the Overton Fire Department.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington with the Rev. Cathy Cole officiating. Burial will be in Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell with military honors.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Harold C. Cochran

Harold Casper Cochran, 83, of North Platte died April 8, 2001, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 15, 1917, to Levi and Mary Sivits Cochran at North Platte. He grew up in Maxwell and Stapleton, where he attended school. He worked on various farms in the area.

On Oct. 9, 1937, he married Alberta R. Scott in Gering. She preceded him in death March 6, 1976. They lived in Maxwell and North Platte.

On March 22, 1999, he married Antonia Serrano in North Platte.

He worked at Sears, Hoppe Lumber Co. and retired from the Holiday Inn after 19 years.

He enjoyed woodworking and crafts. He also loved coyote hunting and his hunting dogs.

Mr. Cochran is survived by his wife Antonia; four daughters, Charlene (Ron) Hooper of Julesburg, Colo., Sharon (Jerry) Pilakowski of Omaha, Vickie (Jack) DeCent of Hershey and Kendra (Dan) Elsten of North Platte; two stepdaughters, Leann (Moses) Ricks and Gina (Tony) Henderson, both of North Platte; a son, Larry (Deb) of Aurora, Colo.; three stepsons, Phillip (Theresa), Mark (Jill) and Shawn (Johanna) Silos, all of North Platte; five sisters, Alice (Everett) Blevins, Bonnie (Ernie) Collins and Dorothy (Floyd) Cobb, all of North Platte, Betty Becker of Texas, and Barbara (Calvin) Alexander of Loup City; two brothers, Ralph (Marge) Cochran of North Platte and Jess (Lorraine) Cochran of Lincoln; 23 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Daniel Joe; a grandson, Todd Hooper; a sister, Lois; and a brother, William.

Memorials are suggested to the church.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First Assembly of God Church in North Platte with the Rev. Steven Bell officiating.

Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and Wednesday at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home and prior to service time at the church Thursday.

Morris G. Ferrell

Morris G. Ferrell, 83, of North Platte died April 7, 2001, at Premier Estates.

He was born June 18, 1917, in Lincoln County to Alva and Marian Spicer Ferrell. He went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad in 1936 as a fireman. He served in the U.S. Army from May 13, 1942, to Dec. 4, 1945.

On Oct. 9, 1942, he married Ila Scott at Fort Wayne, Ind. They returned to North Platte and he was promoted to engineer. He retired March 13, 1976.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks 985, the Platte Valley Lodge 32 AF&AM and the PR Halligan Post 163. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, reading and visiting with his family and friends.

Mr. Ferrell is survived by his wife; two daughters, Diana Ferrell of North Platte and Judy (Lloyd) Wagner of Phoenix; a brother, Maynard (Louise) Ferrell of Sacramento, Calif.; and a cousin, Trev (Irene) Mann of Orangevale, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials are suggested to the North Platte Fire and Emergency Medical Services.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte with the Rev. Sandra Patterson of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell with military honors.

The casket will not be opened. Those wishing to sign the memorial book can do so from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte.
