Vernon L. Fleshman

OGALLALA - Vernon L. Fleshman, 81, of Ogallala died April 7, 2001, at the Ogallala Community Hospital.

He was born July 8, 1919, to Vernon S. and Lela May Anderson Fleshman in Fulton, Wyo. He spent his entire life in Ogallala and graduated from Ogallala High School in 1939.

After graduation he was employed by the Nebraska Highway Department until February 1941. At that time he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Europe. He was discharged in October 1945 at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., at the rank of sergeant.

On April 21, 1946, he married Dorothy Jean Black in Carroll. They lived their married life in Ogallala.

After his discharge he returned to Ogallala and worked for Cass Construction Co. and the Keith County Co-op. In 1951, he began working at Goodall Electric as a winding machine operator. He remained at Goodall and its successors for 33 years, retiring in July 1984. During his career there he held several positions, including quality control supervisor.

Mr. Fleshman was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was the State Commander in 1982 and 1983. He represented Nebraska and Kansas as a National Council member from 1991 to 1993. He was a member of the American Legion and DVA. He was also a member of the Military Order of the Cooties.

He was to have received a plaque this month for serving as post quartermaster for more than 15 years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Ogallala.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Gary L. (Mary) of Ogallala and Roger (Eli) of Cheyenne, Wyo.; a brother, Kenneth Fleshman of Ogallala; a granddaughter, Michelle (Brandon) Robles of Tucson, Ariz.; five stepgrandchildren, Tara Baladez, Michael and Stefanie Simpson, Ranae Sanchez and Izabella Sanchez-Schilz, all of Ogallala; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Irene.

Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church and the Ogallala Community Hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday from the United Methodist Church in Ogallala with the Rev. Ray Norris officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in the Ogallala Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Draucker Funeral Home of Ogallala. The casket will be open at the church.

Julian W. Hoschouer

MAYWOOD - Julian W. Hoschouer, 83, died April 6, 2001, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

He was born Oct. 16, 1917, in the community of White to Leslie W. and Emma Orman Hoschouer Lindquist.

On Dec. 21, 1940, he married Lois Morton. They spent their married lives farming.

He enjoyed gardening and always grew a large garden always sharing his harvests with friends. He was an excellent chef and was well known for his cooking abilities.

He served as an elder in the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in North Platte and was a member of the Gideons.

Mr. Hoschouer is survived by a daughter, Phyllis (Clifford) Bach of Hoonah, Alaska; two sons, Julian Jr. (Jeanette) of Julesburg, Colo., and Douglas G. (Charlene) of Red Cloud; six grandchildren, Chad and Chris Hoschouer, Julie Nien, Nancy Lang, and Matthew and Emily Bach; a great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Nien; and two brothers, Lewis (Doreen) Hoschouer and Loren (Betty) Hoschouer.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and three brothers, Edward, Fred and Glen.

Memorial are suggested to the Good Samaritan Nursing Home, PO Box 517, Wood River, NE 68883.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church North Platte. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Garden.

Lois N. LeVan

LEXINGTON - Lois N. LeVan, 77, of Lexington died April 8, 2001, at the Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington.

She was born July 27, 1923, in Hendricks, Minn., to Peter J. and Ida Bruflat Ness. She grew up in Hendricks, where she attended school, graduating from Hendricks High School in 1941. She graduated from Minneapolis Business College in 1943.

On Oct. 17, 1948, she married Robert H. LeVan in Hendricks.

They lived in St. Louis and then moved to Ames, Iowa, where her husband attended Iowa State University, College of Veterinary Medicine. He had private practices in Richmand, Wis., and Hubbard, Iowa, and then went to work for the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a veterinary meat inspector, first in De Pere, Wis., then in Omaha. They lived in Papillion for 21 years, where he retired. In 1993, they moved to Lexington.

She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church and was involved in the Grand Generation Center.

Mrs. LeVan is survived by her husband; two daughters, Linda (Joe) Miller and Lisa LeVan, all of Lexington; a son, Eric (Julie) of Tea, S.D.; six grandchildren, Timothy, Matthew and Melinda Miller of Lexington, and Michael, Natalie and Dana LeVan of Tea.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Clarysse, Alyce and Phyllis.

Memorials are suggested to the Grace Lutheran Church in Lexington.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Dan Cosson officiating. Burial will be Friday at 11 p.m. in the Hendricks (Minn.) City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.

Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington and Johnson Funeral Home in Hendricks, Minn., are both in charge.

Mae E. B. Kostman

COZAD - Mae Kostman, 87, died April 8, 2001, at the Tri-County Hospital in Lexington.

She was born Feb. 28, 1914, at Oconto to Arthur and Rose Houch Houchin. During her early life she lived in several Nebraska communities.

On Sept. 9, 1930, she married Emil Kostman. They lived in and around Cozad since 1932. She worked in several cafes in Cozad and for several years at the Cozad Seventh Street Market. She had lived in Lexington for the last year.

Mrs. Kostman is survived by a daughter, Virginia (Arthur) Buss of Cozad; a son, Rodney (Jackie) of Cozad; a sister, Wauneta Lichliter of Omaha; 10 grandchildren; and several great and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1996; a daughter, Benita; a sister, Elva Slack; a brother, James; and three grandchildren.

A memorial has been established.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Berryman Funeral Home Chapel in Cozad. Burial will be in the Cozad Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad.

Karen N. Suhr

ARNOLD - Karen N. Suhr, 56, of Arnold died April 7, 2001, at the Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.

She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Arnold, the Arnold Chamber of Commerce, the Hospital Board, the Library Board, and was an officer and past president of the Auxiliary of Nebraska Veterinary Association.

Mrs. Suhr is survived by her husband, Lyle; her mother, Lois Nordwall of Fort. Collins, Colo.; a daughter, Kristin of Denver; a son, Alan of Santa Cruz; two brothers, Bruce (Joceile) of Alexandria, Va., and Paul (Meg) of Fort Collins; and a grandson, Trey.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Memorials are suggested to the Zion Lutheran Church, Lutheran Hour, the Nebraska Veterinary Medical Association Centennial Scholarship Foundation, the Heifer Project International or the Arnold EMTs.

Inurnment will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Arnold Cemetery.

Services will follow at 11 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ben Eickhoff officiating.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the Arnold Funeral Home.

Lee G. Rice

HEMINGFORD - Lee G. Rice, 58, of Hemingford, formerly of Mullen, died April 6, 2001, in Rapid City, S.D.

He was born Oct. 14, 1942, in Mullen to Sidney and Tillie Wiese Rice. He graduated from high school in Pine River, Minn., in 1961.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a truck driver for Leprino Trucking in Denver and a Cherry County Sheriff's Deputy for 25 years. At the time of his death he was employed by the Box Butte County Road Department.

Mr. Rice is survived by his wife, Evelyn; four stepdaughters; a son, Richard of Rushville; four stepsons; his mother; four brothers, Donald (Louise) of Remer, Minn., Jim (Charlene) of Pequot Lakes, Minn., Leo (Ardith) of Wickenburg, Ariz., and Robert of Pine River; 14 grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father; and two stepsons.

A memorial has been established.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Cedarview Cemetery in Mullen with Leonard and Judy Ridenour officiating.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the Mullen Funeral Home.

Raymond A. Wright

Raymond Arthur "Teddy Bear" Wright, a longtime resident of North Platte, died April 7, 2001, at the York General Hospital. He was 40.

He was born April 11, 1960, in Salina, Kan., to Raymond Martin and Glenda LaVern LaRue Wright. They later moved to Nebraska.

He worked for the City of North Platte in the 1980s, then became a truck driver with various companies. He had been employed with Rawhide Carriers of Chapman.

He enjoyed fishing, playing the guitar and being around family and friends.

Mr. Wright is survived by his children, Rodney R. Wright, 20, Billy Martin Wright, 19, and Sandi Joy, Wright, 16; their mother, Hilda Wright; his father, Raymond Martin (Betty Jean) Wright of Carson City, Calif.; three sisters, Sheila (Russell) Sternberg of Gresham, Patricia (Allen) of Giltner and Linda Wright of Grand Island; a grandchild; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for his children.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Odean Colonial Chapel in North Platte with the Captains Kris and Mary Ann Wood of the Salvation Army officiating. Burial will be in the North Platte Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and before the service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Arthur H. Olson

MESA, Ariz. - Arthur H. Olson, a longtime North Platte resident, died March 31, 2001, in Mesa, Ariz., of lymphoma.

He was born July 20, 1912, in Havre, Mont., to Andrew and Mary Olson. He graduated from Havre (Montana) High School in May 1930. After graduation, he worked for Buttrey's in Havre and during the Depression he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps. He then attended Northern Montana College.

In June 1935, he married Isabelle Hollie Galbraith. They moved to Los Angeles and he attended National Electronics School. After graduation, they moved back to Montana and then on to Cheyenne, Wyo., where he worked for United Airlines. In 1942, he started his 30-year career with the Union Pacific Railroad. They moved to North Platte in 1951. He retired as an electrical supervisor in 1975.

He enjoyed square dancing and taught it for many years. He enjoyed designing and erecting electronic equipment. He also raised small livestock with his two daughters. His other hobbies included fishing, boating, building, working in his yard and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Electrical Union, the Elks, the Knights of Pithias, the Odd Fellows, the Union Pacific Old Timers and the Prairie Lake Boat Club.

Mr. Olson is survived by his wife; two daughters, Evonne Peterson of Oxnard, Calif., and Brenda Stutheit of Worland, Wyo.; five grandchildren, James R. and Terry Peterson of Oxnard, Calif., Kimberly (James) Malin of Worland, Syndy Peterson of Big Bear, Calif., and Kathy Stutheit of Lander, Wyo.; four great-granddaughters, Maggie and Katie Malin of Worland and Kori and Hanneah Puckett of Lander, Wyo.; two brothers, Vern H. Olson and Roy A. Olson, both of Havre; two sisters, Thelma Petrie of Edmonds, Wash., and Vivian John of Sylmar, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sons-in-law, James R. Peterson and Keith H. Stutheit.

A memorial service was at View Point Resort in Mesa, Ariz. Burial will be held at a later date in Havre.

Bunker Funeral Home of Mesa, Ariz., was in charge.
