Naomi E. Morris

BROKEN BOW - Naomi E, Morris of Broken Bow died April 16, 2001, in Broken Bow. She was 92.

She was born June 17, 1908, at Pierre, S.D., to Leon and Elizabeth Fenske Peltzer. She moved with her family to Custer County and graduated from Broken Bow High School.

On Aug. 18, 1934, she married D. Phillip Morris at Julesburg, Colo. They lived in several communities before moving to Custer County in 1941. When they retired in 1979, they moved to Mason City.

Her husband died in 1998.

She was a member of the Berean Church in Ansley.

Mrs. Morris is survived by three daughters, MaryAnn Hauser of Broken Bow, Roberta (Bill) Dunn of Ainsworth and G. Sue (Duane) Christiansen of Ansley; two sons, Louis (Kay) of Tucson, Ariz., and Leon (Judy) of Purdum; three sisters, Katherine Thornhill of Mount Grove, Mo., Vera Burdick of Cloquet, Minn., and Lila Proffitt of Superior, Wis.; three sisters-in-law, Arlene Peltzer of Sun City, Ariz., Mary Haney of Mullen and Pauline, Carter of St. George, Utah; a brother, Alfred Peltzer of Broken Bow; a brother-in-law, Robert (Dorene) Morris of Broken Bow; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and two brothers.

Services will be at 11 a.m. at the Berean Fundamental Church in Broken Bow with the Revs. Don Schauda and Steve Hicks officiating. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.

Donald C. Turner

Donald Carl Turner, 59, of North Platte died April 17, 2001, at his home.

He was born March 16, 1942, to Sylvia Turner at Ellington, Mo. He was raised and attended school in Ellington.

On Feb. 13, 1965, he married Linda Adams at Kennett, Mo. They lived in St. Louis until 1971, when they moved to Kimball, where they lived until 1974. They moved to Chappell and lived there until 1976, when they relocated to Dix. In 1991, they moved to North Platte. He ended his 22-year career as a track inspector for the Union Pacific Railroad.

He was a member of the Riverside Baptist Church and the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way.

Mr. Turner is survived by his wife; a daughter, Tammy (Duffy) Hopkins of North Platte; four sons, Donald Jr. and David (Elaine), all of Euclid, Ohio, Travis of North Platte and Jeffrey (Dawn) of Kennett, Mo.; a brother, Leon (Debra) Turner of Doniphan, Mo.; and eight grandchildren, Seth and Trissa Turner of Oshkosh, Zachariah, Stacy and Jacob Hopkins of North Platte and Danielle and Rachele Pence and Cathy and KateLenn Turner, all of Kennett.

He was preceded in death by his mother and a brother, Denzil.

A memorial has been established.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Riverside Baptist Church with the Rev. Dwane Johnson officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. MT in the Dix Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today and from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte.

Charles W. Breuer

Gothenburg - Charles W. Breuer, 83, of Gothenburg, died April 19, 2001, at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg.

He was born Nov. 13, 1917, at Callaway to Karl F. and Clara D. Hunter Breuer. He graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1936 and from Hastings College in 1940. He lived on a farm and had a dairy herd north of Gothenburg for most of his life.

He served as a 4-H leader for many years and was a member of the District 130 School Board.

On Sept. 27, 1946, he married Mildred Wilhelmina Adams at the Morning Star church parsonage. She preceded him in death July 10, 2000.

Mr. Breuer is survived by two daughters, Karlene (Nic) Ostergard of Callaway and Linda (Mac) Azuogu of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; two sons, Sterling (Karen) of Bismark, N.D., and Stephen (Jeane) of Gothenburg; nine grandchildren, Jenni, Ryan and Troy Azuogu, Garth and Elaine Ostergard, Jocelyn, Jarrod and Radley Breuer and Erica (Phillip) Linnemeyer; and two great-grandchildren, Eric and Makayla Linnemeyer.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Grayling, Jan. 1, 1981.

Memorials are suggested to the Gothenburg Senior Center or the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Gothenburg with the Rev. Larry Milliken officiating.

Burial will be in the Gothenburg Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Blase Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg.

Geraldine A. Lambertus

GOTHENBURG - Geraldine A. Lambertus, 79, of Gothenburg, died April 19, 2001, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

She was born April 4, 1922, to Oscar and Millie Lindstedt Lundquist.

On June 22, 1941, she married Marvin Lester Lambertus at Grand Island. They lived north of Gothenburg for 15 years then moved to Grand Island where they lived for 22 years before moving back to Gothenburg in 1977.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Gothenburg.

Mrs. Lambertus is survived her husband; two daughters, Jackie (Roger) Headley of Gothenburg and Sue (Mell) Halsey of Dannenbrog; a son, Doug (Judith) of Grand Island; a brother, Ole (Lottie) Lundquist of Payson, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters; and five brothers.

Memorials are suggested to the Zion Lutheran Church in Gothenburg.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Zion Lutheran Church in Gothenburg with the Rev. Jeff Reutten officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Gothenburg.

Visitation will be from l p.m. to 9 p.m. today at Blase Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg.

Raymond Leonhardt

HIGHLAND, Calif. - Raymond Leonhardt, 87, of Highland Calif., brother of June Anderson of Paxton and Ruth Farmer of Hershey, died March 16, 2001 at the Recke Canyon Convelesance Center in Colton, Calif.

He was born April 7, 1914, at Hallam, to William and Elizabeth Leonhardt of Sutherland. In 1925, he moved with his family to a farm south of Sutherland, where he attended school. He joined the Marines. in 1942, and served for four years. He received the Asiatic Pacific Medal, Campaign Ribbon, Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

On July 21, 1944, he married Elsie "Pat" Athey at the San Diego Marine base. After his discharge they lived in the Los Angeles area where he started a trucking business. In 1988, they moved to Highland and had lived there since.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Bobby Elliot of California; his parents; and four brothers, Virgil J. of Los Osos, Calif., William A. of Henderson, Nev., L.P. "Bud" of Sutherland, and Dale Lee of Payson, Ariz.

Mr. Leonhardt is survived by his wife; two daughters, Janet Rumanuk of Mareno Valley, Calif., and Dawna Leonhardt of Seattle; two sons, Raymond of Great Falls, Mont., and Bob of Rhondo, Cucomonga; three sisters, June (Raymond) Anderson of Paxton, Ruth (Lloyd) Farmer of Sutherland, and LaVerne Sanders of Denver.

Services were March 31, 2001 at the Green Acres Mortuary in Bloomington, Calif. Burial was in the Green Acres Memorial Park.

Shirley E. Lynn

OGALLALA - Shirley E. Lynn, 79, of Ogallala, died April 17, 2001, at Beatrice Manor in Beatrice.

She was born Dec. 26, 1921, in Torrington, Wyo., the daughter of Lewis and Nettie Hanks Evert. She graduated from Torrington High School.

On July 21, 1946, she married Lewis Marion Lynn in Torrington. The couple made their home in Denver, Alamosa, Colo., and Cheyenne, Wyo., before moving to Ogallala in 1958.

She was active in the Berean, Congregational, and Baptist churches. She taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school and served as VBS director. She served as youth sponsor and youth camp counselor.

Mrs. Lynn is survived by her husband; three daughters, Nettie Fae (Norm) Nelson of Roscoe, Althea (Arvid) Wiest of Beatrice, Coral (Bruce) Spracklen of Brule; a son, Hanford (Kathy) of North Platte; a brother, Leslie (Annabelle) Evert of Gordon; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two stepmothers, Della Berryhill Evert and Lucy Hartman Evert.

Memorials are suggested to the Back to the Bible broadcast or the Stonecroft Ministries, headquarters of Christian Women's Clubs.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Ogallala with the Revs. Curtis Tschetter and Phil Ewert officiating. Burial will be in the Ogallala Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Draucker Funeral Home in Ogallala.

Ruth E. Smith

ELWOOD - Ruth E. Smith, 82, of Elwood died April 19, 2001, at Elwood.

She was born Oct. 8, 1918, near Hoxie, Kan., to John and Helen Baumann Baier. She was raised on a farm north of Hoxie and attended school, including Immanuel Lutheran Christian Day School.

On Sept. 14, 1935, she married Jim Smith and they made their home on farmsites at Hoxie and Dresden, Kan. They later lived in several communities in Kansas, Colorado and Nebraska, where she worked with her husband in the grain elevator business. In 1970, they moved to Johnson Lake and had lived in Elwood for the past 3½ years.

She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church at Elwood.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband; two daughters, Roberta (Les) Olmstead of Loveland, Colo., and Victoria (Randall) Vinzant of Elwood; a brother, John (Norma) Baier of Prescott, Ariz.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild expected.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Hazel Baier; and two brothers, Allen and William.

A memorial has been established.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Elwood with the Rev. Richard Boring officiating. Burial will be in the Elwood Cemetery.

There will be no visitation. Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad is in charge.

Minnie Kristina Bratten

GOTHENBURG - Minnie Kristina Bratten, 86, of North Platte died April 20, 2001, at the Pawnee Retirement Hotel in North Platte.

She was born April 4, 1915, south of Brady to Andrew Fredrick and Augusta Emelia Gustfson Anderson. She attended Jeffrey Queen School south of Brady.

On Aug. 12, 1937, she married Josef A. A. Bratten in Ogden, Utah. They worked in the fruit orchards in Utah for two years before returning to Brady to the Bratten Ranch, where they lived until he preceded her in death Dec. 31, 1994. In 1996, she moved to North Platte where she lived at the Pawnee Retirement Hotel.

She was a member of the Brady United Methodist Church for 50 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Women Sunshine Sewing Club and the Nebraska Cattlewomen.

Mrs. Bratten is survived by two daughters, Carolyn (Josef) Straub of Ogallala and Madelyn (Gary) Bishop of Nevada, Mo.; a son, Don (Sheryl) of Brady; a brother, Oscar (Dorothy) Anderson of Gothenburg; a daughter-in-law, Sally Bratten of Lincoln; 13 grandchildren, Mike Straub of Kearney, Tim Straub and Adriann Bratten, both of Lincoln, Carrie and Becky Straub, both of Ogallala, Adam and Chad Bratten, both of Denver, Aimee Bratten of Hastings, Brooke Bishop of Columbia, Mo., Bo Bishop of Nevada, Mo., Kristen (Patrick) Boulter of Longs, S.C., Andrew (Holly) Bratten of Omaha and Anthony Bratten of Wayne; and a great-grandson, Carson Boulter of Longs.

She was preceded in death by a son, Richard; her parents; a sister, Bertha Henry; three brothers, Gunner, Gustaf and G. Leonard Anderson; and a great grandson.

Memorials are suggested to the Brady United Methodist Church.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Brady United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Bicket officiating. Burial will be in the Gothenburg Cemetery.

Visitation will be from l to 9 p.m. with family present from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday and at 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Blase Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg.
