Nina L. Hood

LEXINGTON - Nina L. Hood, 88, of Lexington died April 22, 2001, at the Tri-County Hospital in Lexington.

She was born Jan. 12, 1913, in Riverton to Ben Earl and Edith Amelia Hein Maxon. She grew up around the Elwood area, where she graduated from high school after four years to become a teacher. She could not find a school close enough to teach at and returned for her fifth year and took business courses.

She married Hugh Jorgensen Sr. at Elwood. He preceded her in death.

On April 26, 1968, she married Harold Hood at the First Christian Church in Lexington.

She was baptized in the Christian Church and was still a member at the time of her death. She painted pictures when she was younger and recently made stuffed animals. She enjoyed making teddy bears and even sold some of her handiwork on the East Coast. She enjoyed poetry, working in her garden, bird watching and watching deer and wild turkeys.

Mrs. Hood is survived by her husband, Harold; three stepdaughters, Sandra (Donald) Thompson of Houston, Charlotte (Ralph) Casey of Ogallala and Joan Heinen of Fort Atkinson, Wis.; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Jorgensen of Curtis; three sisters, Ona Maxon of Virginia, Maxine (Frank) Braun of Lincroft, N.J., and Eileen (Darmon) Montey of Lexington; a brother, Ben Maxon of St. Johns, Kan.; two granddaughters, Edith Louise Huffman of Driggs, Idaho, and Beverly Jones of Curtis; many step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Hugh Jr.; her parents; two sisters, Mildred and Gladys; and two brothers, Oliver and Richard.

Memorial are suggested to the Lexington Volunteer Fire Department.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington with the Rev. Ginny Hill from the Christian Church in Elwood officiating. Burial will in the Elwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington

Dorothy M. Frederick

Dorothy Marie Frederick, 81, died April 22, 2001, at Chancellor Place at Aspen Park in North Platte.

She was born April 17, 1920, to Julius and Anna Estermann Knoll at Kearney. She spent her childhood in the Somerset area. She attended school at Cherry Valley District 102 northwest of Somerset and North Platte High School and graduated from University of Nebraska School of Agriculture at Curtis in 1938.

On May 16, 1944, she married George P. Frederick at Wellfleet and they lived on their ranch north of Dickens for 32 years until his death in 1976. She moved to North Platte in 1988.

She was an avid cook and ranch wife who enjoyed providing for her family and working on the family ranch. She always opened her home to her friends and had an extra plate on the table for anyone who stopped by to visit or work. She was a volunteer for the Red Cross and the North Platte Canteen during World War II.

She was involved in the Cow Belles and Women Involved in Farm Economics and was active in North Platte's St. Patrick's Catholic Church activities and was a past member of the St. Mary's Altar Society in Wallace.

Mrs. Frederick is survived by a daughter, Linda (Doug) Facka of Sutherland; three sons, Larry (Betty) and Lynn (Lynne), all of Dickens, Leo of Sarben; a sister-in-law, Ruby Knoll of Dickens; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Elizabeth Garner; and two brothers, Joseph and George Knoll.

A memorial has been established to either St. Mary's Catholic Church in Wallace or St. Patrick's Catholic Church in North Platte, or to the Alzheimer's Association.

Christian Wake Services will be 7:30 p.m. today at Adams & Swanson Chapel in North Platte.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Wallace with the Rev. Joseph Steele as celebrant. Burial will be at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home.

Kristine A. Kramer

OGALLALA - Kristine A. Kramer, 33, of Ogallala died April 22, 2001, at her home.

She was born April 21, 1968, in Lincoln, the daughter of Dean and Carolyn Simon Mays. She graduated from Crete High School in 1986. She attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where she majored in journalism. She graduated in 1990 with a degree in broadcast journalism. Following graduation she was employed with KLDZ radio station in Lincoln.

In 1992, she moved to Ogallala and worked for KOGA radio station as news director. Then in 1994, she became news editor for Keith County News.

On July 16, 1995, she married Allen Kramer in Ogallala. In September 1996, she started working as office manager for KODY radio station in North Platte. In October 2000, she resigned due to failing health.

Mrs. Kramer is survived by her husband; three daughters, Brianna Kramer of Salt Lake City, Corey Kramer of Lakewood, Colo., and Hillary Kramer of Ogallala; her mother, Carolyn (Phillip) Camacho of Martell; her father, Dean (Margaret) Mays of Lincoln; father and mother-in-law, Don and Barbara Kramer of Ogallala; a sister, Robin (Todd) Wright, of Lincoln; and a nephew, Wilson C. Wright of Lincoln.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to a fund for the education of their children.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Berean Church with the Rev. Mark Carlton officiating. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Centerville Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. today at the Draucker Funeral Home in Ogallala. The casket will not be open at the church.

Waldo Parsons

Waldo Parsons of North Platte, a former Sioux County resident, died April 20, 2001, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte. He was 88.

He was born June 13, 1912, in Sioux County to Con and Susie Parsons. He grew up on a ranch and was a lifetime rancher in Wyoming, Montana and Nebraska until his retirement in 1972.

On Jan. 29, 1954, he married Lorraine Hamm. They lived on several ranches before moving to Buleton, Calif., after his retirement. They later relocated to Sun City, Calif.

Mr. Parsons is survived by a daughter, Betty Berry of Palm Desert, Calif.; four grandchildren, Ed Corley of Tacoma, Wash., Randy (Michelle) Corley of North Platte, Jim Layng of Rapid City, S.D., and Kelly Chappell of Palm Desert; a sister, Susie Mae (Ed) Ambler of Riverton, Wyo.; a sister-in-law, Helen Parsons of Sun Lake, Ariz.; a niece, Sue Andrikopoulos of Billings, Mont.; a nephew, Vince Atencio of Englwood, Colo.; a cousin, Cinthia Kaan of Harrison; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous of other relatives in and around the Sioux County and central Wyoming areas.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and two brothers.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Harrison Cemetery.

Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte is in charge.

Norma L. Swisher

HALSEY - Norma L. Swisher, 65, of Halsey died April 23, 2001, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

She was born June 22, 1935, at Broken Bow to Floyd W. and Florence Brodine Applegarth. She grew up at Broken Bow and graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1954.

On Nov. 7, 1954, she married Francis Swisher at the Assembly of God Church in Broken Bow. They moved to Halsey and spent most of their married life there. She was a member of Mothers Against Drunk Driving and enjoyed painting, writing poems and crocheting.

Mrs. Swisher is survived by her husband; seven daughters, DeEtta (Pat) Irish of Ogallala, Rose (Ron) Garretson of Cozad, Betty Hauser of Berwyn, Mary Morris of Broken Bow, Ann Ahrens of North Platte, Kay (Jim) Wallin of Colby, Kan., and Donna (Nathanael) McIntosh of Halsey; two sons, David (Sheila) of Norton, Kan., and James (Jodi) of Dunning; two sisters, Goldie Freese of Cozad and Diane Wright of Lexington; two brothers, LaVern (Elsie) Applegarth of Fitchburg, Mass., and Larry Wright of Cozad; 32 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Delores Rickertson.

Memorials are suggested to the Arthritis Foundation.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the United Church of Christ in Halsey with the Rev. Kurt Clark officiating. Burial will be in the Purdum Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.

Evelyn V. Boon

BOULDER, Colo. - Evelyn V. Boon, 96, of Boulder, Colo., died April 21, 2001, at Boulder Manor.

She was born Aug. 15, 1904, in Clarks to Otto and Kittie Dunham Reger.

On June 7, 1930, she married Robert W. Boon in Avoca.

Mrs. Boon lived in Grand Island for 50 years before moving to Boulder in 1987. She attended Franklin Academy and received a bachelor's degree from Doane College in Crete. She was active in Grand Island Telephone Pioneer, the First Methodist Church, the Eastern Star, the Parent Teacher Association and the Beauceant. She crocheted lap robes for rest homes, made crafts and enjoyed poetry.

She was a homemaker and taught at Salem High School.

Survivors include three daughters, Roberta (Jerry) Mohr of Eugene, Ore., Elizabeth (Wilmer) Schweikert of Boulder and Nyleve (Joe) Kovar of Ridgecrest, Calif.; a son, William (JoAnn) of North Platte; a sister, Bernice Schmelter of Lincoln; nine grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Reger.

Memorials are suggested to the South Broadway Church of Nazarene, 300 S. Broadway Boulder, CO 80303.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at the South Broadway Church of the Nazarene in Boulder. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday at in the Westlawn Memorial Park, 300 S. Broadway, Boulder, CO 80303.

Crist Mortuary of Boulder is in charge.

Dorothy G. Anderson

GOTHENBURG - Dorothy G. Anderson, 86, of Gothenburg died April 25, 2001, in Gothenburg.

She was born April 5, 1915, at Cozad to Percy J. and Laura Mundell Hines. She graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1938. She attended Kearney Normal Training and later taught school for eight years.

On Dec. 24, 1939, she married Oscar M. Anderson at Broken Bow. They made their home and raised their family on a ranch south of Brady. After moving to Gothenburg in 1955, she was a clerk in Meyers Drug Store for several years.

They moved to Callaway in 1968, where she worked at the grocery and helped in the Callaway museum, in addition to being active in her church. They returned to Gothenburg in l992.

Mrs. Anderson was a member of the First Baptist Church in Gothenburg and enjoyed church and family, teaching Bible study groups and Sunday school.

Survivors are her husband; a daughter, Joleen (Norman) Hicken of Kearney; two sons, Roger (Dawn) of Staplehurst and Milan (Tammy) of Gothenburg; two brothers, Arthur (Mildred) Hines of Gothenburg and John (Doris) Hines of Grand Island; a sister, Helen Neel of Gothenburg; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Anna Mae Wahlgren.

Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church or KJLT Radio in North Platte.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Gothenburg with the Rev. Larry McDermott officiating. Burial will be in the Gaslin Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Blase Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg.

Norman L. Coe

OVERTON - Norman L. Coe, 49, of Kearney died April 24, 2001, at the Evanston (Wyo.) Regional Hospital.

He was born April 25, 1951, at Norton (Kan.) County Hospital to Delton and Irene Smith Coe. He graduated from Alma High School in 1969 and graduated from Kearney State College with a degree in business.

On Nov. 29, 1975, he married Pamela K. Denson in Kearney.

Mr. Coe enjoyed farming on the family farm near Alma. He also was a pressman at the Kearney Hub for 20 years and most recently drove truck for the Freedom Transportation Trucking Company. Although he worked several full-time jobs, he was still able to farm.

He enjoyed spending time with his family. When his sons were young, he spent most of his time attending their wrestling meets and other activities. His grandson meant a great deal to him and he enjoyed time he spent with him. He also enjoyed playing pitch.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Kearney.

Surviving him is his wife; four sons, Scott (Amy) of Hastings, Ryan of Omaha, Jeff of Camp Lejeune, N.C., and Michael of Kearney; a grandson, Joshua of Hastings; his mother of Republican City; two brothers, David (Marlene) Coe of Camarillo, Calif., and Richard Coe of Alma; and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer; his father; and his father-in-law.

Memorials may be made to the Coe family.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Christian Church in Overton with the Rev. Dan Cleveland officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Overton Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the Overton Funeral Home in Overton.

Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is in charge.
