Phyllis J. Nisley Fuller

LEXINGTON - Phyllis J. Nisley Fuller, 84, of Lexington died March 29, 2001, at the Tri-County Hospital in Lexington.

She was born Oct. 30, 1916, at Lexington to Samuel I. and Mary Ethel Harrow Nisley. She graduated from Lexington High School and Wesleyan University and obtained a master's degree from Kearney State College. She then taught for more than 30 years in and around Lexington.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lexington.

Mrs. Fuller is survived by a daughter, Sally W. Haller of Lexington; a son, David D. Nisley of Modesto, Calif.; five grandchildren, Chris Arps and Cathleen Maceda, both of Dallas, Tracee S. Bolen of Elsberry, Mo., David S. Nisley of San Diego and Shannon E. Nisley-Calaghan of Council Bluffs, Iowa.; and eight great-grandchildren, Amanda, Rex, Ross, Reese, Tommy, Arron, Arvil and Ashley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cal Fuller; her parents; and two brothers, Rex C. and Sam F. Nisley.

A memorial has been established.

Services will be at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Lexington with the Rev. Floyd H. Starr officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington.

Frank D. Johns Sr.

Frank Dudley Johns Sr., 53, of North Platte died April 1, 2001, at his home.

He was born May 4, 2001, at North Platte to Alfred William LeRoy and Norma Lucille Woodward Johns. He grew up in North Platte and after his schooling he worked for Mayflower/Cohagen Transfer and later Snell Electric. He also attended Mid-Plains Community College Voc-Tech.

He enjoyed his ham radio and had been a ham operator since 1978. He was a sky watcher for the Ham Radio Club and was a member of the North Platte Progressive Amateur Radio Club. His letters were NØDRU. He was a volunteer fireman.

On Jan. 14, 1994, he married Betty Jane Chambers in North Platte. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.

Mr. Johns is survived by his wife; a daughter Deb (Barry) Allen of North Platte; three sons, Frank Jr. (Tina) and Travis (Zipporah), both of North Platte, and Dale (Shanna) of Lincoln; two sisters, Ruby "Hopper" Yates of Omaha and Linda "Skipper" Barwick of Pahrump, Nev.; seven grandchildren, Natasha, B.J., Jonathan, Jesla, Rebecca, Shelby and Chelsea; and numerous other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepfather, Darrel Robert Morrison.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Odean Colonial Chapel in North Platte with the Rev. Robert Payne officiating. Cremation will follow.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and before the service Wednesday at Odean Colonial Chapel in North Platte.

Don C. Gloyer

SEATTLE - Don C. Gloyer, 72, of Seattle, formerly of North Platte, died March 25, 2001, in Seattle.

He was born Jan. 21, 1929, in North Platte. He moved to Scottsbluff when he was 16, where he finished high school and junior college. He graduated from the University of Colorado in 1951 and moved to Seattle where he worked for F & M Department Store and Bank of America. After retirement, he joined Louis Owen Design Firm.

He worked for the Boy Scouts from 1962 to the mid-1970s and was Bill Gates' scoutmaster from 1968 to 1970.

Mr. Gloyer is survived by his wife, Delores; a son, Kurt; a granddaughter, Kelsi of Yakutat, Alaska; and a sister, Shirley Christiansen of Riverside, Calif.

He was preceded in death by a son, Shawn Gloyer

Memorials are suggested to donor's choice.

Katherine Geiser

ORD - Katherine Geiser, formerly of Broken Bow, died March 31, 2001, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.

She was born Nov. 12, 1927, at Victoria Springs near Anselmo to John D. and Myrtle N. Amesberry Bowley. She attended school in Victoria Springs.

In 1945, she married George Geiser. They lived Broken Bow and later moved to Anselmo. She lived in the Custer Heights in Broken Bow and the Nolo Villa in North Loup, and in 1998 she moved to the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.

She was a member of the Anselmo United Methodist Church and the Broken Bow Does. She enjoyed crocheting, playing cards and bingo, and spending time with her family.

Mrs. Geiser is survived by a daughter, Susan Wolf of North Loup; a stepdaughter, Margaret Hulme of Fountainhills, Ariz.; a son, Bob of Thedford; a stepson, Tom Geiser of Grafton; a sister-in-law, Barbara Rondon of Las Vegas; two sisters, Ruth Bolen of Anselmo and Ruby Chrispo of Kenesaw, Wash.; a brother, John Bowley of Holdrege; a half sister, Sara Duttan of Imperial, 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter-in-law, Kay Geiser; a stepson, Bob Nelson "Geiser"; her parents; an infant sister, Lavonne Bowley; and a half sister, Florence Morgan.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow with the Rev. Doug Jones officiating. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.

Betty Lou Rowley Lovato

SANTEE, Calif. - Betty Lou Rowley Lovato, formerly of North Platte, died March 18, 2001.

She was born May 6, 1929, to Royce N. and Rena Rowley in North Platte. She graduated from North Platte High School in 1946.

Mrs. Lovato was an investigator for the Department of Motor Vehicles. She was an eucharistic minister, a catechism teacher and a member of the Women's Guild at Guardian Angels Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband, Richard J. Lovato; and a sister, Dorothy Helas of San Mateo, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, T. LeRoy Rowley of Arizona.

Lakeside-Santee Funeral Chapel of Santee, Calif., was in charge.

Herbert Henry Reitz

OGALLALA - Herbert Henry Reitz, the infant son of Greg and Shawna Foight Reitz, was born March 22, 2001, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.

Services were March 28, 2001, at the Gubser Funeral Chapel with the Rev. John Schlaf of St. Luke's Catholic Church officiating. Burial was in the Paxton Cemetery.

Survivors include his parents of Ogallala; a sister, Kortney, 3; a brother, Charles, 5; grandparents Lyle and Beth Foight of Paxton and Harold and Cassie of Reitz of North Platte; great-grandparents Mae Reitz of Minden, Rose Dale Fuller of Oshkosh and Myron and Wilma Bakewell of North Platte; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Dayton L. Smith

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Dayton L. Smith, born and raised in North Platte, died of cancer March 30, 2001, at his home in Long Beach, Calif. He was 64.

He attended Platte Valley Country School and graduated from North Platte High School in 1955.

In 1956, he married fellow North Platte graduate Marlene Wills.

They enjoyed 44 years of marriage. He worked in farming and construction, then managed Lakeway Lanes Bowling Alley in North Platte until moving to California in 1968. While living in California, he worked for Southern California Edison for 30 years before retiring in October 1998.

He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life such as dancing and bowling, working in his yard, coaching and watching his children and grandchildren in youth baseball and softball, cheering for Nebraska football, and spending time with his family and friends.

Mr. Smith survived by his wife; a daughter Diana; two daughters-in-law, Della and Tamara; two sons, Lane and Kent; five grandchildren, Carly, Kyle, Delaney, Mitchell and Molly; a sister, Bonnie Jo Leonhardt; and four brothers, Herman "Ray", Scott, George "Bill" and Ron Rains.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Myrtle Smith; and a brother, LeRoy.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Church, 6220 E. Willow St., Long Beach, CA. Burial will be in the Forest Lawn Mortuary, 4471 Lincoln Ave., Cypress, CA, 90630.

Pearl M. Broeker

EDISON - Pearl Marie Broeker, 78, of Edison, mother of Roger C. Broeker of Maywood, died April 3, 2001, at her home.

She was born Sept. 4, 1922, at Tekamah to Charles and Gertrude Bagaley Caywood. Her family moved to Edison and she graduated from Edison High School in 1941. In 1941, she moved to Oxford and worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company.

On Dec. 13, 1943, she married Oral R. Broeker in Oxford.

She was a 4-H leader for 15 yeas and a member of the Hobby Club. She grew a large garden and raised chickens for broilers and laying stock.

Mrs. Broeker is survived by her husband; a daughter, Marlys Marie (Warren) Baxter of Orleans; five sons, Roger C. (Elizabeth) of Maywood, Tracy L. (Susan) of Beaver City, O Ralph Jr. (Gloria) of Holdrege, Alan P. (Valerie) of Milford and Bryan W. of Laungerberg; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; four sisters; six sisters-in-law; a brother-in-law; and many other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Florence Johnson and Hazel Covey; and a sister and brother in infancy.

A memorial has been established.

Services will be at 2 p.m. at the Christian Church of Edison with the Rev. Ryon Sanders and Kirk Einspahr officiating. Burial will be in the Carter Cemetery in Harlan County.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Mitchell-Nelson Funeral Home in Oxford with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

Robert M. Carr

LEXINGTON - Robert M. Carr, 86, of Lexington died April 2, 2002, at the Southview Manor Care Center in Cozad.

He was born June 26, 1914, at Falls City, to William Thomas and Mary Ellen Blodgett Carr. As a young boy, he moved to Grand Island and then to Lexington in 1962.

On January 28, 1936, he married Elizabeth Mary Stieb at Lexington. She preceded him in death in May 1984.

He spent his working years doing custom farming for area farmers and spent 41 years working for Hays Mills. He also did carpentry work.

Mr. Carr is survived by three daughters, Kathleen (Milo) Klein of Burke, S.D., Rosie Rogers of Lexington and Joanne (Terry) Nickels of Cozad; four sons, Bobby (Dee) of Lexington, Alfred (Sharon) of Overton, Joe (Kathy) of Mesa, Ariz., and Pete (Ruth) of Burke; a sister, Beulah Tamlin of Loveland, Colo.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; a sister; and four brothers.

Memorials are suggested to the Tri-County Hospital Physical Therapy Department.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Floyd H. Starr officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington.

Rita Marie Phillips

PORT ARTHUR, Texas - Rita Marie Phillips, 38, of Port Arthur, Texas, formerly of North Platte, died Feb. 22, 2001, at her home.

She was born August 17, 1962, to C.A. "Bud" and Diane Weverka Phillips in North Platte. She attended North Platte public schools and graduated from Geneva High School in 1980. She attended Nancy Bounds Modeling School and modeled in Japan.

She was married for a short time to Dennis McKee. She co-owned a video brokerage firm and video rental stores with her former husband. She lived in Houston for 15 years, then moved to Port Arthur.

She is survived by her mother; a daughter, Chelsey Phillips of League City, Texas; two sons, Matthew Miguez of Port Arthur and Brandon Kerr of Webster, Texas; two sisters, Julia Cover of League City and Brenda Grantzinger of Kearney; four half sisters, Mitzi Gartrell of Wallace, Leitha King of Ellis, Kan., Dora Whitney of Concordia, Kan., and Celia Lawson of Oakley, Calif.; three brothers, Timothy Phillips of Littleton, Colo., Don Phillips of Pasadena, Texas, and Jeff Phillips of Berwyn; three half brothers, Albert Phillips of Ellis, John Phillips of Arnold and Paul Phillips of North Platte; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father; and two half-brothers, Charles Allen Phillips and James Cole Phillips.

Memorials are suggested in the care of the family.

Services were Feb. 25, 2001, at Broussard's Mortuary in Texas.

Memorial services to be at 1 p.m. on April 7, 2001, in the Fireside Room at Maranatha Bible Camp near Maxwell with George W. Cheek officiating. The family will recieve friends after the service.
