Violet Raye Hueftle
LEXINGTON - Violet Raye Hueftle, 71, of Lexington died May 4, 2001, at the Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington.

She was born June 1, 1929, at Watsonville, Calif., to William E. and Nettie Amanda Sturdebaet Patten. She grew up in California and work 16 years for California Farm Products. She moved to Nebraska in 1978 to be near her brother.

In 1987, she married Harold Hueftle. He preceded her in death in 1997.

Mrs. Hueftle enjoyed working crossword puzzles and watching television. She was also a member of the Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include five nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Maxine Johnson; a brother, Nolen Patten; and half-brothers and half-sisters.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Evergreen Cemetery at Lexington with the Rev. Joe Masten officiating.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington.

Henry Olson
ELSIE - Henry Olson, 91, a long-time farmer in the Elsie community, died May 5, 2001, at his daughter's home in Eustis.

He was born Oct. 26, 1909, northwest of Elsie to Oscar and Bina Oman Olson. He grew up on the farm and attended country school.

On Aug. 28, 1933, he married Christiana Johnson at North Platte.

They lived in Logan County until 1938, when they returned to the farm northwest of Elsie. After his wife's death in 1997, he lived on his farm until 1999 and he then moved to his daughter's home in Eustis.

Mr. Olson is survived by three daughters, LaVilla (Marvin) Quandt of Grand Island, Gaylene (Larry) Snell of York and Joyce (Lloyd) Walker of Eustis; three sons, Francis (Diane) of North Platte, Lewis (Jean) of Lakewood, Colo., and Mark (Sheila), who live on the Olson farmstead northwest of Elsie; 24 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruby (Leon) McQueen of Elsie.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at the Grant Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. Robert Pierce officiating. Burial will be in the Elsie Cemetery.

Bullock-Long Funeral Home in Grant is in charge.

Ruth M. Wintermute
KEARNEY - Ruth M. Wintermute, of Kearney, aunt of Arlene Unruh of Wallace, died May 8, 2001, at St. John's Center, where she had been a resident since January 1999. She was 91.

She born Sept. 23, 1909, in Farnam to Arthur and Jennie Fitch Hicks. They move to Kearney and she graduated from A.O. Thomas School and then attended Kearney State Teacher's College.

In 1937, she married Glen L. Wintermute in Farnam. They moved to Wyoming, where they had a homestead. In 1942, they returned to the Farnam area. In 1978, they retired and moved to Kearney. She taught rural school in various communities before she was married and during the war years.

Mrs. Wintermute was a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, the Open Circle, the Dawson County Extension Club and the Nebraska Cattleman's Association.

Survivors include a sister, Esther Boyd of Kearney; two nieces, Arlene Unruh of Wallace and Janice Peck of Fort Collins, Colo.; and three nephews, Don Whitacre of Kearney, Raymond Kjar of Costa Mesa, Calif., and Dennis Kjar of Fort Collins.

She was preceded in death by her husband on June 14, 1999; and a sister, Dorothy Kjar.

Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church or the American Parkinson's Disease Association.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Kearney with the Rev. Dr. Ron Roemmich officiating.

Graveside services and burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Farnam Cemetery.

Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary of Kearney is in charge.

Deborah J. Givens
SUTHERLAND - Deborah Jean Givens, 40, of Sutherland died May 10, 2001, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.

She was born Dec. 11, 1960, at North Platte to Arnold and Lucille Powell Freeman. She grew up in Paxton and graduated from Paxton High School in 1978. She attended Chadron State College for two years.

On July 6, 1984, she married Cecil Allen Givens in Cheyenne, Wyo., where they lived before moving to Sutherland in 1992. She was a substitute cook for the Sutherland Public Schools before going to work full time last year as an assistant cook. She also was an assistant coach for the girls softball league and was active with the Boys Scouts.

She was a member of the Sutherland Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school, was Bible school director and was Sunday school superintendent.

Mrs. Givens is survived by her husband; a daughter, Georganna "Georgie" Givens; two stepdaughters, Amy Hayes and Tawnya (Vince) Osborne, all of Cheyenne; a son, Jeremy of Sutherland; a stepson, Cecil Jr. of Cheyenne; a sister, Betty (Bob) Harrison of Wonder Lake, Ill.; two brothers, David (Tonya) Freeman of Paxton and Arnold Jr. (Liz) Freeman of Lincoln; four stepgrandchildren; an aunt, Lois Dickenson of Paxton; and other relatives.

Memorials are suggested to the Sutherland United Methodist Church or the donor's choice.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Sutherland United Methodist Church with the Rev. Karl Lent officiating. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery south of Sutherland.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today, 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Odean Colonial Chapel in North Platte and before services Monday at the church.

Lucy Hixon
OGALLALA - Lucy Hixon, 102, of Ogallala, died May 10, 2001, at Indian Hills Manor.

Survivors include a daughter, Delpha J. (Fred) Olmsted of Ogallala; 13 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren; 32 great-great-grandchildren; a great-great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Ogallala Church of Christ.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Ogallala Church of Christ with Max Towell officiating. Graveside services will follow at 2 p.m. in the Riverside Cemetery at Wauneta.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Ogallala Church of Christ.

Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Draucker Funeral Home in Ogallala.

Pauline Gorley Beach
LAS VEGAS — Pauline Gorley Beach, 93, grandmother of Jeff Gorley of North Platte and Susan Lewis of Hershey, died May 6, 2001, in Las Vegas.

She was born Aug. 17, 1907, in Shark, Ark.

On Oct. 23, 1927, she married William Gorley in Pecos, Texas. He preceded her in death on April 22, 1965.

On Dec. 19, 1970, she married Walter Beach in Carlsbad, N.M. He also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Beach is survived by six grandchildren, Mark and family of Springfield, Mo., Susan Lewis and family of Hershey, Scott and Melinda of Las Vegas, Jeff of North Platte and Steve Gorley of Maryville, Ill.; her daughter-in-law, Edith Gorley of Las Vegas; her sister, Nell Phillips of Dallas; a nephew, Dick Gorley and family of Red Cloud; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her son, Charles in July 1998; three sisters; and two brothers.

Memorials are suggested to the Methodist Church in Curtis.

Services will be in the Curtis Cemetery on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Ruth Naumann
EUSTIS — Ruth Naumann, 91, of Lexington, formerly of Eustis, died May 11, 2001, at Lexington.

She was born Aug. 4, 1909, near Eustis to Charles and Sophie Gall Halbgewachs. She attended rural school and graduated from Eustis High School. She made her home in Lincoln and Lexington for several years before returning to Eustis.

On June 23, 1938, she married Raymond H. Naumann. They lived on a farm south of Eustis until two years ago, when they moved to Lexington.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed spending her time cooking and gardening.

Mrs. Naumann is survived by her husband; a son, Raymond O. (Susan) of Tucson, Ariz.; and three grandsons, Christopher Naumann of Houston, Michael Naumann, a student at Notre Dame, and Andrew Naumann of Boston.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter; an infant sister; and two brothers, Edwin and Immanuel.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association or the donor's choice.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church at Eustis with the Rev. Dr. William Deahl officiating. Burial will be in the East Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at the church.

Berryman Funeral Home of Cozad is in charge.

Merry Bunstock
McCOOK - Merry J. Bunstock of McCook, mother of Troy and Derek Erdman, both of North Platte, died May 13, 2001, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte. She was 57.

She was born July 8, 1943, to Vern A. and Nadine Cross Meints at McCook, where she grew up and graduated from high school in 1961.

She married Gerry Erdman and later married Richard Bunstock.

Mrs. Bunstock was a receptionist for several years at the South West Nebraska Medical Center in McCook. She made her home in McCook until moving to Kearney in 1988. She was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in McCook.

Surviving her are two sons, Troy L. (Rita) Erdman and Derek B. (Ginger) Erdman, both of North Platte; five grandchildren; her parents; and other relatives and friends.

A memorial has been established.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at the Peace Lutheran Church in McCook with the Rev. Carl Pullman officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.

Herrmann Funeral Home in McCook is in charge.

Earl Dean Barner
STAPLETON Earl Dean Barner, 77, of Stapleton died May 12, 2001, at his home after a lengthy battle with cancer.

He was born May 12, 1923, to Chester E. and Edith Utterback Barner in Stapleton. He grew up near Stapleton and graduated from Baker Rural High School in Stapleton in 1941. After graduation, he entered the U.S. Army and served during World War II and the Korean War.

On Dec. 23, 1952, he married Magalena "Leni" Ruppel in Frankfort, Germany. The couple made their home west of Stapleton and have resided there since.

Mr. Barner was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, where he was a board member. He belonged to the Stapleton American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also on the Loup Valley Cemetery Board.

Survivors include his wife of Stapleton; four brothers and three sisters, including Glen Dee (Leona) Barner of Stapleton, Byron (Elaine) Barner of Lincoln and Myron (Jan) Barner of North Platte; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Association, American Heart Association, St. John's Catholic Church or to Loup Valley Cemetery.

Christian Wake services were May 13, 2001, at St. John's Catholic Church in Stapleton. Mass of Christian Burial was May 14, 2001, the church in Stapleton with the Rev. Jim Novakowski as celebrant. Burial was in the Loup Valley Cemetery.
