William Rochlitz, 65
HEMINGFORD - William D. "Billy" Rochlitz, 65, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007, at Hemingford Community Care Center.

He was born march 1, 1941, at Alliance, to Louis and Alta Rochlitz.

He was married to Patty Calvo and they had three children, Jimmy, Jeff and Janet.

Cremation has taken place and burial will be set for a later date.

Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Vilas O. Sorensen, 93
Vilas O. Sorensen, age 93, of Yankton passed away Sunday, January 07, 2007, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, SD.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, January 11, 2007 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Yankton, with Rev. David Lund officiating.

Burial will be in the Turkey Valley Lutheran Cemetery, rural Irene, SD at approximately 1:30 PM.

Visitations will be 3 to 9 PM, Wednesday, at the Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton, and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.

Vilas was born in Irene, SD on January 22, 1913. He attended the Welsh Town Country School through the eighth grade, at which time he farmed with his family.

On April 20, 1935, he was married to Lucille Goebel in Yankton, SD, and to this union four children were born. Vilas had several jobs throughout his younger years, road construction and farming, and working at the sugar factory in Sidney, MT.

Jim R. Hughes, 51
BRIDGEPORT - Jim R. Hughes, 51, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007, at Bridgeport.

Jim, a resident of Superior, Neb., was employed by BNSF Railway.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, at Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel, Superior, with Rev. Jim Stark officiating.

Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Superior. Memorials may go to the Superior Fire Department.

Anna Romick, 96
ALLIANCE - Anna Romick, 96, passed peacefully away Friday, Jan. 5, 2007, at Good Samaritan Health Care Center.

Anna Romick was born in Doverinka, Russia, to parents of German heritage on Feb. 22, 1910. She was the daughter of Fred and Catherine E. (Relka) Semon.

At the age of one year, she migrated with her parents and sister Mary to Hayden, Wis. At the age of four, her family moved to Scottsbluff where she attended school.

In 1925 she married Fred Romick; they made their home in Melbeta and Gering, Belle Fourche, S.D.; Roundup, Mont. and Alliance.

Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8, and 8 a.m.-12 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Alliance with Rev. Martin T. Schnare and Rev. Richard C. Mueller officiating.

Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Alliance Prairie Haven Hospice, or Good Samaritan Health Care Center.

Charles Lafler, 80
SIDNEY - Charles L. "Chuck" Lafler, 80, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007, at the Sterling Regional Medical Center at Sterling, Colo.

Lafler, the son of Leon A. and Opal I. (Webster) Lafler, was born on June 18, 1926, at Havelock. In 1929, at three years of age, Chuck was confined to bed for six months due to Rheumatic Fever. The illness had lasting effects his entire life.

Chuck attended District 56 and District 49 Schools before graduating from Sidney High School at the age of 16. He then attended Wentworth Military Academy at Lexington, Mo., waiting to become old enough to join the military services and learning to fly an airplane.

Not yet 18 years of age, Chuck's parents signed his enlistment papers into the Regular Army Air Corps where he served as an Aircraft and Engine Specialist. Chuck received his Honorable Discharge on Nov. 25, 1945. He returned home to help is mother run the family farm as his father was ill and unable to continue farming.

On Nov. 25, 1948, Chuck married Edna Groeger at Peetz, Colo., a union lasting more than 58 years. Chuck was proud to be a farmer, and in the lean years when hail, drought, and Mother Nature made it difficult to make a living on the farm, he supplemented his family's income by working at the Sioux Army Depot, the Union Pacific Railroad and doing cement work.

Chuck has been an active member of The American Legion since 1945. He was one of the organizers of the ColoBraska Telephone Company, serving as President while building 21 miles of telephone line to provide telephone service to the South Divide area. Chuck began his car collecting in 1951 when he purchased a 1926 Model-T Ford Touring car. It would prove to be one of many projects that led him to organize and serve as the first President of the Trailblazers Antique Car Club of Sidney/Cheyenne County.

Rosary Services will be at 1 p.m., followed my a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, with Fr. Jim Novakowski officiating. Military Graveside Inurnment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery. There will be no viewing as cremation has been held.

Friends may sign Chuck's book at the funeral home on Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Patrick's Catholic Church Building Fund or the Elk's Crippled Children's Fund.

Gehrig-Stitt Chapel and Cremation Service is in charge of the arrangements.

Faye A. Martin, 82
RED WING, Minn. - Faye A. Martin, 82, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2006, at Fairview Seminary Home.

She was born on May 23, 1924, at Hemingford, Neb., to Harry and Jessie (Clayton) Wildy. She was a graduate of Hemingford High School and attended Nebraska Wesleyan University.

She was married to Leonard "Len" Martin on Oct. 7, 1944, at the Army Air Force Base at Dodge City, Kan. While her husband was stationed overseas, she worked for the Nebraska Stockgrowers Association at Alliance.

Survivors include her husband, Leonard of Red Wing; three children, Dennis D. (Barbara) Martin of Shorewood, Minn., Monty L. (Debra Drew) of Maplewood, Minn., and Pamela K. (Brian) Larson of Arden Hills, Minn; and four grandchildren.

She also is survived by one sister, Doris Hudson of Hemingford; many friends and other relatives.

A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Wayne Walther officiating.

Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and one hour prior to the time of services Friday at the church.

Memorials are preferred to First United Methodist Church, American Cancer Society or Red Wing Area Food Shelf.

Betty J. Kiester, 80
HEMINGFORD - Betty Jean Kiester, 80, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006, at the Hemingford Community Care Center.

Betty was born Jan. 16, 1926, to Emil and Ellen (Bichel) Knag at the family home northeast of Alliance.

She attended and graduated from Alliance High School. She was married to William L. (Bill) Kiester on July 7, 1946, at Alliance, and they made their home on the Kiester family farm northwest of Hemingford for many years. Bill preceded her in death in December of 1995.

She was a member of the Hemingford United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, and the Hemingford American Legion Auxiliary Unit 9.

Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, at the United Methodist Church at Hemingford, with Pastor Jeri Soens officiating. Burial will be in the Hemingford Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the Hemingford United Methodist Church, the Hemingford Volunteer Fire Department, or the Hemingford Community Care Center.

Roger M. Leedall, 59
ALLIANCE - Roger M. Leedall, 59, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2006, at the University of Colorado Hospital at Denver.

Roger was born Jan. 8, 1947 at Ottumwa, Iowa, to Vernal C. and Madeline (Bukowski) Leedall.

He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and returned and married Margaret A. Hamstreet on Oct. 15, 1968, at Ottumwa. She passed away in 2001. He began working for the railroad and was currently working for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway where he had worked for more than 30 years.

He married Donna J. Taylor on April 17, 2006, at Alliance.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, at the Bates-Gould Chapel, with Rev. James Rowe officiating. Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27, with the family present from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Following the funeral service there will be a gathering of friends and family at the Shelter House at the Alliance City Park.

Memorials may be given in care of the family at, 423 Anthony Ave., Alliance, NE 69301.

Mildred Hall, 81
JACKSONVILLE, Texas - Mildred M. Hall, 81, died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2006, following a brief illness.

She was born Oct. 10, 1925, in Missouri, to Thomas and Nellie Gorman.

They moved to Alliance when she was very young, and farmed south of Alliance in the Letan area. She was married to A.B. "Jack" Hall in 1940.

They raised their four children in the Alliance area and moved to San Jose, Calif., in 1971.

She lived and worked at San Jose until her retirement, when she bought a wooded property in East Texas that she enjoyed until her passing.

Cremation has taken place, and inurnment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery at a future date.
