Kermit Duis
ASHBY - Kermit Duis, 59, of Ashby, died May 17, 2001, in Alliance following a horse accident.

He was born May 27, 1941, in Gothenburg to George and Leona Sommers Duis. He graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1961. He spent 19 years working for the Pawnee Springs Ranch.

On Oct. 19, 1986, he married Jon Morris in Gothenburg. They moved to the Joe Minor Ranch about seven years ago. A lifelong cowboy, he enjoyed animals and the outdoors.

He belonged to the Nebraska Cattleman's Association.

Mr. Duis is survived by his wife; a daughter, Sheila Lum of North Platte; a son, Michael of Ashby, two grandchildren; and two brothers.

He was preceded in death by an infant son; a granddaughter; his parents; and a brother.

A memorial has been established.

Services will be at 2 p.m. MST Monday at the Calvary Episcopal Church in Hyannis with the Rev. Paul Mottl officiating. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. CST Tuesday at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery north of Gothenburg with the Rev. Larry Viter officiating.

Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. MST today and from 10 a.m. to service time Monday at the church in Hyannis.

The Mullen Funeral Home is in charge.

Daniel A. Fetters
JOHNSON LAKE - Daniel Fetters of Johnson Lake died May 18, 2001, in Omaha. He was 56.

He was born Aug. 8, 1944, at Cambridge to Theodore and Elsie Dutcher Fetters. He attended schools at Holbrook and Edison and graduated from Elwood High School in 1962. He graduated from McCook Junior College, and received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

On June 6, 1965, he married Mary Lou Seybold at Palisade. He taught school at Tecumseh, at Syracuse for 20 years and for a brief time at Gothenburg. He retired in 1990 due to ill health. He resumed work as an over-the-road truck driver in 1994. In 1997, he again had to retire due to failing health. He made his home for the past five years at Johnson Lake.

He was a member of the First Christian Church of Elwood. He was a voc-ag teacher during his career and was active in agricultural-related organizational work.

Mr. Fetters is survived by a daughter, Pam (Dave) Weier of Mesa, Ariz., a son, Brent of Colorado Springs, Colo.; his mother; a sister, Marcia (Stan) Kaps of Elwood; a sister-in-law, Patty Fetters of Ogallala; a brother, Rodger (Nanette) Fetters of McAllen, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1992; his father; an infant sister, Marie Loretta; and two brothers, Bruce and Mark.

Memorials are suggested to the Kidney Foundation.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the First Christian Church at Elwood with the Rev. Ginny Hill officiating. Burial will be in the Edison Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the church in Elwood.

Berryman Funeral Home of Cozad is in charge.

Alvin C. Peaster
GRANT - Alvin C. Peaster, 75, father of Bruce and Garold Peaster of Madrid, died May 17, 2001, at the Bethel Home in Montezuma, Kan., due to complications of Parkinson's disease.

He was born March 18, 1926, at his parents home between Copeland and Montezuma to Joseph and Susie Becker Peaster. At the age of 15, he moved with his family to California.

On Jan. 5, 1947, he married Dorothy Becker at Atwater, Calif. He worked as a fieldman in the fertilizer-chemical business for 38 years. They moved to Idaho and he worked in building supply from 1973 to 1976. They returned to California and were there until April of 1996 when they moved to Nebraska. Due to his failing health, they moved to Bethel Home in Montezuma in March 1998.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Charleen (Gladwin) Enez of Atwater, Calif.; three sons, Bruce (Gloria) and Garold (Nancy), all of Madrid and David (Cindy) of Bonners, Calif.; 19 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters; two sisters-in-law; seven brothers; and a brother-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Lee Peaster.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. today at the Bethel Home in Montezuma with the Rev. Donald Koehn officiating. Further services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Golden Plains Mennonite Church in Madrid with the Rev. Ray Frank officiating. Burial will be in the Madrid Cemetery.

Montezuma Funeral Home in Kansas and Bullock-Long Funeral Home of Grant are in charge.

James D. Reade Sr.
James Durell Reade Sr., 79, of North Platte, formerly of Chicago, died May 19, 2001, at Linden Court.

He was born Nov. 3, 1921, in Biloxi, Miss., to Francis Joseph and Bertha Elizabeth Hubbart Reade. He grew up and graduated from high school in Clinton, Iowa, in 1941. After graduation, he entered the U.S. Army and served in World War II in the Pacific Theatre.

After returning home, he attended the University of Iowa and the Ray Vouge Photography school in California. After finishing his degree, he moved to Chicago where he worked at Koopman/Neumer, then at Licata Associates.

On Sept. 8, 1953, he married Virginia Platt in Phoenix. The couple were longtime residents of Morton Grove, Ill. His wife preceded him in death Sept. 13, 1989. He moved to North Platte in 1997 to be closer to his daughter.

Mr. Reade was a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association and a devoted animal lover. He also enjoyed model airplanes.

Survivors include a daughter, Renee (Randall) Sullivan of North Platte; a son, James D. Reade Jr. of Chicago; a sister, Frances C. Hall of Lake Charles, La.; a granddaughter, Caitlin Sullivan of North Platte; a niece, Sue (Clayton) Miller of Louisiana; and a nephew, Robert (Christine) Hall of California.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, Logan Sullivan.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah 84741-5001.

Memorial services will at 7 p.m. Friday at the Episcopal of Our Savior Church with the Rev. John Schaefer officiating.

Frances Lucille Howell
McCOOK - Frances Lucille Howell of McCook, mother of Karen Blunt of North Platte, died May 18, 2001, at the McCook Community Hospital. She was 67.

She was born Aug. 17, 1933, in Gonzales, Texas, to Clifton O. and Mamie Lucille Baker May. She grew up in the San Antonio area and moved to McCook in 1953.

On Dec. 24, 1953, she married Garrell "Red" Howell and their spent their married life in McCook.

In 1990, she returned to school to earn her general-education diploma. Graduating with high grades, she was awarded a scholarship to McCook Community College.

Mrs. Howell enjoyed being home and caring for her roses and vegetable garden.

She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Karen (Doug) Blunt of North Platte; four sons, Kenneth (Tammy) of Grand Island, Thomas of Hastings, William (Cathleen) of McCook and Patrick (Janice) of Lincoln; 10 great-children; a great-grandchild; a sister; two brothers; and other relatives and friends.

A memorial has been established.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at the Assembly of God Church in McCook with the Rev. Charles Hooton officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at McCook.

Herrmann Funeral Home in McCook is in charge.

Marcella J. Woodward
Marcella J. Woodward, 78, of North Platte died May 20, 2001, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center.

She was born Jan. 28, 1923, to Harry Orlando and Zelpha Perlina Corder Woodward in Gothenburg. Marcella attended school in Gothenburg and North Platte. She moved from Gothenburg to North Platte in 1939.

She moved to Colorado with her father and brother for a short time before returning to North Platte. She then lived with her brother Walt and his family for many years. At the time of her death, she was a resident at Linden Court where she had lived for the past 10 years.

Miss Woodward was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in North Platte. She enjoyed family gatherings, holidays, children, cooking, listening to gospel music, and most of all, she enjoyed praising her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Survivors include a sister, Betty (Eugene) Herron of North Platte; four brothers, Harold (Vera) Woodward and Walt Woodward, both of North Platte, Bob (Ella) Woodward of Hershey and Mervin (Aris) Woodward of Limon, Colo., and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Norma Morrison and an infant sister, Verna Elizabeth; four brothers, Dale, Don, Richard and Milton; and a special sister-in-law, Mary Woodward.

A memorial has been established.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte with the Rev. Robert Payne officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery north of Lexington.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte.

Glenna Nadine Wyatt
Glenna Nadine Wyatt, 62, died May 19, 2001, at her home in North Platte.

She was born April 20, 1939, at Sackett, Ky., to Lindsey and Virginia May Back Morton. She grew up in the Sackett and Pikeville, Ky., area, where she attended school.

On March 17, 1956, she married John Edward Wyatt at Winchester, Ky., where they made their home. She was employed by Sylvania Electric, making light bulbs. They moved to North Platte in 1964 and she was a checker at Gibson's True Value for several years. She then filled her time raising her family.

She was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in September 1969. After her baptism, she volunteered her time in preaching the Good News of God's kingdom, which she eventually did on a full-time basis until her health prevented her doing so. Her life was dedicated to her ministry.

She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Natalie Marie (Richard) Little of Woodland, Calif., and Melinda Ann (Todd) Sharp of North Platte; five sons, David Edward, Regan Dean (Darci) and Michael Jon, all of North Platte, Myron Keith (Ilene) and Daryl Gene (Chris) of Holdrege; three sisters, Nell (Pete) Pasley and Nan Nolda, both of North Platte, and Ruth Bridges of Clay City, Ky.; two brothers, David (Beulah) Morton and Watson (Sue) Morton, all of Winchester, Ky.; seven grandchildren, Tyler, Tyrel and Madison Wyatt and Asha, Logan, Blake and Chandler Sharp; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Allan Morton.

A memorial has been established.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses with Dewayne Hanes officiating.

There will be no visitation. Those wishing to sign the memorial book may do so from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at Odean Colonial Chapel, or prior to services Saturday at the Kingdom Hall.

Albert L.L. Bligh
OMAHA - Albert L.L. Bligh, formerly of North Platte, died Jan. 21, 2001. He was 74.

He was born to Willie and Sabina Thurston Bligh in Neligh, where he graduated from high school. He was in the U.S. Army two years during World War II and served on Okinawa.

On Nov. 19, 1950, he married Betty Godeker in Sutherland.

Mr. Bligh was an engineer with the Department of Roads for more than 40 years. The family lived in North Platte from 1952 until the mid-1950s.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Cherie Bligh of Stuart; a son, Kent of Atlanta; and other relatives, including a sister-in-law, Linda (Loren) Johnson of Hershey.

Inurnment will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell.

Roeder Mortuary in Omaha was in charge.
