Boyd Dale Holloway
HOOD RIVER, Ore. - Boyd Dale Holloway, brother of Alma Romans of North Platte, died May 17, 2001, of a massive heart attack at his home in Hood River, Ore. He was 81.

He was born Nov. 29, 1919, in Ord to Edward Charles and Eliza Ann Holloway. After high school graduation in 1937, he rode a freight train to Hood River, where he made his home.

Mr. Holloway had a variety of jobs, including an iron worker, truck driver, painting contractor, welder and restaurant owner. When he was 50 years old, he enrolled in college and became a real estate broker.

He worked many years to get a new and covered community pool for Hood River. He served more than 12 years on the swim team board, plus three four-year elected terms with the Park and Recreation Board. He was a member of the Elks for more than 50 years and was their organist for many years. He was also a member of the Eagles for more than 50 years.

He is also survived by his wife, Linda; his children, Susan (Jeff) Heater of The Dalles, Ore., Craig (Tarina) Holloway of Philomath, Ore., Scott (Sheri) Holloway of Bremerton, Wash., Samantha (Jeff) Irwin of Parkdale, Ore., and Stacy Holloway of Hood River; eight grandchildren; a brother, Hap (Ruth) Holloway of Hood River; and a sister-in-law, Linda Hylton.

He was preceded in death by Opal, the mother of his two eldest children; his parents; a sister, Thelma; and two brothers, Eddie and Reynold.

Memorials may be sent to the Hood River Valley Swim Team, Anderson Funeral Home, 1401 Belmont, Hood River, OR 97031.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Anderson Funeral Home in Hood River.

Donald Paul Lair
Donald Paul Lair, 93, of North Platte, formerly of Stapleton, died May 21, 2001, at Centennial Park Retirement Village in North Platte.

He was born April 8, 1908, in Oswego, Kan., to John and Bertha Johnson Lair.

On Aug. 11, 1931, he married Gladys Robertson at Lincoln. The couple lived in Logan County from 1945 to 1973. In 1973, they moved to North Platte.

Mr. Lair operated Lariat Boys Ranch in Stapleton for many years.

Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Dorothy (Don) Sullivan of Kailua Kona, Hawaii, Betty (Bob) Edwards of Warsaw, Mo., Jean Ray of Madison, Wis., and Karen (Melvin) Lake of Kent, Wash.; two sons, Earl K. of Lincoln and Bob of Denver; 19 grandchildren; and 41 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, two brothers, a grandson and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Larry Milliken of the Seventh-day Adventist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Loup Valley Cemetery at Stapleton.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today and from 8:30 a.m. to noon Thursday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte.

Florence Jeanette Lind
GOTHENBURG - Florence Jeanette Lind, 81, formerly of Gothenburg, died May 21, 2001, in DeKalb, Ill.

She was born Dec. 25, 1919, in Genoa, Ill., to John Henry and Bessie McCullough Atlee. She graduated from Sycamore High School in 1939.

On April 14, 1946, she married Carl L. Lind at Sycamore, Ill. They moved to Oconto in 1980. In 1993, she moved to Gothenburg, where she lived until 1999. She then returned to Illinois.

Mrs. Lind was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Oconto and a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Survivors are a daughter, Pamela (Douglas) Langfield of Big Rock, Ill.; a son, Dale (Janet) of Apopka, Fla.; a brother, John Atlee of Denton, Ill.; four grandchildren, Samantha, Jeffrey, Joshua and Sarah; and several "adopted" grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Carl on March 17, l987; her parents; a sister, Ruth; and three brothers, Ralph, Lyle and Glen.

Memorials may be made to the Hillcrest Housing Activity Fund.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Blase Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg with the Rev. Dennis Berlin officiating. Burial will be in the Gaslin Cemetery south of Brady.

Visitation is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at Blase Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg.

Arlene Harms
BIG SPRINGS - Arlene Harms, 55, of Big Springs died May 22, 2001, at her home.

She was born June 7, 1935, at Ogallala to Andrew and Vivene McBride Anderson. She grew up in the Paxton and Madrid communities and graduated from Madrid High School in 1952. She worked in Ogallala until she married Harold Harms Nov. 14, 1964, in Ogallala. They made their farm home in Brule, Wallace and Big Springs. They moved into Big Springs in 1992.

Mrs. Harms is survived by her husband; two daughters, Marsha Geisert of Wichita, Kan., and Norma Jean (Larry) Kuskie of Grant; two sons, Leonard (Linda) of Elsie and Randy (Sherri) of Stapleton; and nine grandchildren.

A memorial has been established.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Big Springs United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kathy Rice officiating. Burial will be in the Big Springs Cemetery.

Bullock-Long Funeral Home of Grant is in charge.

Roberta Norton
GRAINTON - Roberta Norton, 51, originally from the Grainton community area, died May 20, 2001, in Poway, Calif.

She was born Oct. 15, 1919, near Grainton to Robert and Mary Dolan Maupin. She grew up in the Grainton area and graduated from Grainton High School in 1937. She later graduated from West Nebraska Methodist School of Nursing in Scottsbluff in 1941.

On Nov. 14, 1941, she married Floyd Norton in Scottsbluff. She was a registered nurse in Gering for several years before moving to California in 1968. She retired from nursing in 1986.

She is survived by two daughters, Linda (David) Cherry of Escondido, Calif., and Judy (Michael) Emmert of Auburn, Calif.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy (Morris) Myers of Eddyville, Maxine (Harden) Young of Boise, Idaho, and Isabel Kinney of Wallace; and four brothers, Bob (Betty) Maupin of Billings, Mont., Clarence (Alyce) Maupin of Scottsbluff, Wayne (Diane) Maupin of Venango, and Wendell (Betty) Maupin of Loveland, Colo.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Wallace United Methodist Church with the Rev. Buck Linton-Hendrick officiating. Burial will be in the Wallace Cemetery.

Bullock-Long Funeral Home of Grant is in charge.

Travis Brown
OGALLALA - Travis Ernest Brown, 44, lifetime Keith County farmer, died May 23, 2001, at the Ogallala Community Hospital.

He was born on Sept. 27, 1956, in Ogallala, the son of Marvin and Marlene Walker Brown. He graduated from Ogallala High School in 1974. He attended McCook Community Junior College and later attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In 1976, he returned to Ogallala and began farming with his father.

On Aug. 15, 1981, he married Michelle LaCroix in Denver and they returned to Ogallala to live. He was dedicated to farming the land.

In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and water skiing.

His greatest pleasures were camping and spending time with family.

Mr. Brown is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mallory and Heide, both of Ogallala; his parents; a sister, Diana (Jim) Green of Des Moines, Iowa; an aunt, Arlene Westover of Fort Worth, Texas; his father and mother-in-law, Robert and Mary LaCroix of Aurora, Colo.; a sister-in-law, Melissa Salazar of Greeley, Colo.; three brothers-in-law, Robert (Joyce) LaCroix of San Diego, Richard LaCroix of Denver and Kenneth LaCroix of Aurora; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial has been established in his memory. Interment was in the Ogallala Cemetery.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Ogallala with the Rev. Ray Norris officiating.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Draucker Funeral Home in Ogallala.

Jean M. Henry
COZAD - Jean Henry, 79, of Cozad died May 24, 2001, at the Southview Manor Care Center in Cozad.

She was born Jan. 29, 1922, near North Platte to Ed and Eva Williams Chittenden. She attended rural school and graduated from Cozad High School in 1939. She attended Kearney State Teacher's College and for several years taught school in the summer in Denver, returning to college in the fall. She taught rural school in several Central Nebraska locations. During her teaching career, she continued college studies and later received her bachelor's degree.

On Jan. 23, 1945, she married Stanley Henry and they lived in and near Cozad. After living for a brief time at Indianola, they returned to a farmsite northeast of Cozad in 1954.

In 1969, they moved to Cozad. She was a bookkeeper for a manufacturing company in Gothenburg and for eight years at Southview Manor Care Center.

Mrs. Henry was a member of the Twelfth Street Church of Christ, Gothenburg area Retired Teacher's Association and was a past president of the Veteran of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She was active in the Grand Generation Center.

Survivors include a daughter, Debra (Gordon) Eby of Owatonna, Minn.; a daughter-in-law, Nola Henry of Usk, Wash.; two sons, Dale (Cheryl) of Loveland, Colo., and Doug (Kristin) of Grand Island; a sister, Martha (Dean) Burton of Branson, Mo.; two brothers, Carol (Norma) Chittenden and Dwight (Verla) Chittenden, all of Cozad; 10 grandchildren, Jeff (Jenn) Henry and Jenni (Dennis) Richardson, all of Spokane, Wash., Maria (Steve) Mayhue of Yakima, Wash., Scott Henry of Denver, Shereen Henry of Shoreline, Wash., Shane (Marcie) Henry of Loveland, Sheila Henry of Colorado Springs, Colo., Becky (Shane) Grosvernor of Gothenburg, Kevin Henry of York and Shannon Eby of Owatonna; and three great-grandchildren, Makenna and Meghan Henry and Kortney Richardson, all of Spokane.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2000; a son, Don; a granddaughter, Tara Eby; and five brothers, Jim, Ken, George, and two infants, Charles and Donald.

Memorials are suggested to the Grand Generation Center or the Central Plains Home Health and Hospice.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Berryman Funeral Home Chapel in Cozad. Burial will be in the Cozad Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday with the family receiving friends from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad.

Martin A. Meyer
LEXINGTON - Martin A. Meyer of Lexington died May 24, 2001, at the Tri-County Hospital in Lexington. He was 78.

He was born June 30, 1922, in Gosper County to August H. and Sophia T. Renken Meyer. He attended school at Lexington and graduated in 1940. Following graduation, he worked for Glen Furry.

On June 3, 1944, he married Phyllis J. Hanson at Norton, Kan. He joined the U.S. Army March 10, 1945, and served in the Pacific Theater in the Philippines. He was discharged Dec. 2, 1946. The couple lived in Lexington where he worked in custom butchering for Prasch Brothers Market and then went on to work for Martin Electric as an electrician for 35 years. Following his retirement from Martin Electric, he worked for Hank's Plumbing.

He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Lexington and the Veteran's of Foreign Wars. He was also a former member of the Lexington Volunteer Fire Department.

He enjoy gardening, plants and visiting with his neighbors.

Mr. Meyer is survived by his wife; two daughters, Carol Meyer of Lexington and Connie (David) Breidenbach of Olathe, Kan.; a brother, Norman E. (Bonnie) Meyer of Kearney; and two grandsons, Nicholas Breidenbach of Okinawa, Japan, and Phillip Breidenbach of Olathe.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister-in-law, Phyllis M. Meyer.

Memorials are suggested to the Lexington Volunteer Fire Department or the Grace Lutheran Church in Lexington.

The body was cremated. Inurnment will be prior to the service at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Robb Cemetery south of Lexington.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Grace Lutheran Church in Lexington with the Rev. Dan Cosson officiating.

Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is in charge.

Kenneth Andersen
COZAD - Kenneth Andersen, 83, of Cozad died May 24, 2001, at the Southview Manor Care Center in Cozad.

He was born Aug. 27, 1917, at Randolph to Martin and Lena Drevsen Andersen. He graduated from Randolph High School in 1935 and served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945.

On Nov. 29, 1953, he married Anna Angst at Plainview. They lived on farms at Randolph and Hoskins. In 1961, they moved to Cozad where he was employed at the Mobil Station until 1967. He went to work as a custodian and bus driver for the Cozad school and retired in 1975.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the D.A.V.

Survivors include a stepson, Russell Angst of Fremont; three grandchildren, Scott (Karen) Berner and Roxie (Steve) Kracl, all of Fremont and Rick (Michelle) Berner of Omaha; six great-grandchildren, Colby, Kaitlynn and Blake Kracl, Riley McCoy, Megan Berner and Ryan Lambert; and a great-great-grandchild, Shelby Lambert.

Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by his wife in 1998; a daughter, Carol Berner; a granddaughter, Tracy Berner; a sister, LaVerne Tietgen; a brother, Wilbur; and an infant brother and sister.

A memorial has been established.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Berryman Funeral Home Chapel in Cozad with the Rev. Debra Tomsett-Welch of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today and from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad.
