William Joseph 'Bill' Brown
WHEATRIDGE, Colo. - Wiliam Joseph "Bill" Brown, 76, of Wheat Ridge, Colo., father of Susan Kryzsko of North Platte, died May 24, 2001, at the Hospice of St. John in Lakewood, Colo.

He was born April 28, 1925, in Denver.

He enjoyed gardening and making peanut brittle and fudge for the holidays.

Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Lilia Becker Brown of Denver; two daughters, Linda Mueller of Aurora, Colo., and Susan Brown (Shane) Kryzsko of North Platte; two sons, Timothy of Houston and Randy (Janet) of Thornton, Colo.; two sisters, Bonnie Schrader of Westminster, Colo., and Judy Kilpatrick if Pinson, Tenn.; a brother, Jerry Brown of Denver; eight grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews and other friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Archdiocese of Denver Mortuary Chapel in Wheat Ridge. Burial will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Archdiocese of Denver Mortuary in Wheat Ridge, Colo.

Lenna P. Chapman
Lenna Pearl Chapman, 95, formerly of Stapleton, died May 25, 2001, at the Centennial Park Retirement Village.

She was born Dec. 25, 1905, to James E. and Blanche E. Overman Cline in McPherson County. They later moved to Logan County where she attended the rural Nesbit elementary school and graduated from Baker Rural High School in Stapleton in 1923.

In 1925, she married Merald Chapman. They farmed and ranched in McPherson and Logan counties. After her husband died in 1965, she continued to live on and manage the family farm until 1982, when she moved to Stapleton.

In 1998, she moved to the Good Samaritan Care Center in Callaway due to ill health, and later moved to the Centennial Park Nursing Home in North Platte.

Mrs. Chapman was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, the Stapleton Senior Friendship Club and was also a charter member of the Nesbit Extension Club. She enjoyed gardening, particularly raising flowers, and sewing. She also liked to cook for her family and be surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include two sons, James (Marie) of Stapleton and Richard (Sharon) of Sequim, Wash.; a son-in-law, James Beckius of Stapleton; a brother, Vern (Virginia) Cline of National City, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Lila; a son, Clarence; her parents; and three sisters, Lily Trucks, Bessie McIlhenney and Grace Kelly.

Memorials are suggested to the Senior Friendship Club at Stapleton.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John's Catholic Church in Stapleton with the Rev. James Novakowski officiating.

Burial will be in the Loup Valley Cemetery at Stapleton.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte.

Arno C. Elsasser
BRADY - Arno Christian Elsasser, 83, of Brady died May 26, 2001, at Linden Court in North Platte.

He was born July 16, 1917, to Walter and Alma Rasmussen Elsasser at Omaha. He was raised in Omaha and entered the U.S. Navy at the age of 18.

On July 16, 1938, he married Evelyn Murphy at Brady on the Murphy home place. He worked for the Vultee Aircraft Co. as a foreman at Long Beach, Calif., during World War II. He returned to Brady in 1945, and had resided there since. He was employed with Union Pacific Railroad from 1952 to 1977 as a locomotive engineer.

Mr. Elasser is survived by his wife; two daughters, Geraldine Bond of Kearney and Arlyn "Kay" (Bill) Rogers of Brady; a son, Michael (Ann) of Cheyenne, Wyo.; two sisters, Bernice (George) Gugler of Yucca Valley, Calif., and Doris Koll of Rosemead, Calif.; a brother, Wallace Elsasser of Downey, Calif.; six grandchildren, Laura Miller, Todd Rogers, Kristi Most, Deb Leininger, Susan Anthony and Greg Elsasser; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Sylvia; and two brothers, Donald and Walter.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Brady Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Bicket officiating. Burial will be in the Brady Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. today at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home. The casket will not be open at the church.

Dean Eldon Nowlin
Dean Eldon Nowlin, 81, of North Platte died May 25, 2001, at his home.

He was born Feb. 26, 1920, in Aurora to Ray A. and Ilda Myrtle Smith Nowlin. As a youngster, his family moved to Grand Island where he attended school. He had hired out with the Union Pacific Railroad as a switchman in 1941. He retired in 1982.

On Aug. 2, 1942, he married Charlotte Lee Powers of Beaver, Iowa, at Grand Island where they lived until 1948, when they moved to North Platte.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years and had served several terms as a deacon. He also had been a Cub Scout leader and an assistant scoutmaster, was a past patron of Eastern Star Signet Chapter 55, a member of the Platte Valley Lodge 23 AF & AM, a charter member and former president of the Diamond K Kiwanis and a member of the United Transportation Union 200.

Mr. Nowlin is survived by his wife; a daughter, Karen (Jim) Ridgway of Box Elder, S.D.; a son, William of Palo Alto, Calif.; three grandchildren, Sabrina Lee (Mark) Chastain, William Ray II (Debra) Nowlin and Cheri Lynn (Mark) MacArthur; and three great-grandchildren, Conner and Logan Nowlin and MacKenzie Victoria Chastain.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Eric Lee Ridgway; his parents; a sister; and three brothers.

Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church Organ Fund.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church Chapel with the Rev. James Hawley officiating. Eastern Star Rites by the Signet Chapter 55 will be conducted at 7 p.m. today at Odean Colonial Chapel.

The casket will not be opened. Those wishing to sign the register book may do so from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, with the family receiving friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Odean Colonial Chapel.

Albert Edward Sagesser
Albert Edward Sagesser, 88, of North Platte died May 25, 2001, at the Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.

He was born July 15, 1912, at North Platte to Herman Charles and Mabel Brooks Sagesser. He grew up in North Platte and graduated from North Platte Senior High School in 1930. He was the first Eagle Scout from the troop at the First United Methodist Church and the second in North Platte.

He continued his education at Kearney State Teacher's College where he graduated in 1937. After he graduated, he taught school for several years before getting a steady job at the Union Pacific Railroad.

On Sept. 25, 1941, he married Mable Christina Ritterling at Torrington, Wyo. He started working for the Union Pacific Railroad in 1935 and retired from trail services as a conductor in 1977.

He was a member of the Platte Valley Lodge 32 AF & AM, the Tehama Temple of the Shrine at Hastings, the York Rite bodies of Free Masonry and the North Platte Shrine Club.

He was also a member of the National Eagle Scout Association, the Union Pacific Old Timers Club, the Signet Chapter 55 Order of the Eastern Star, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, a lifelong member of the United Transportation Union and a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church.

Mr. Sagesser is survived by his wife; two daughters, Carol (Eric) Unruh of San Diego and Karen (Charles) Mumma of Omaha; a sister, Ellen (Burton) Shoemaker of Wheatland, Wyo.; a sister-in-law, Ila Fae Sagesser of North Platte; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials are suggested to the Shriner's Crippled Children's Transportation Fund, the North Platte Shrine Club or the First United Methodist Church.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Lux officiating. Masonic rites will be provided by the Platte Valley Lodge 32 AF & AM. Cremation will follow the services.

Visitation will be at the church prior to the services.

Odean Colonial Chapel is in charge.

Myron 'Mike' Slack
BROKEN BOW - Myron "Mike" Slack of Broken Bow died May 26, 2001, at his home. He was 74.

He was born Jan. 11, 1927, at Mason City to Roy and Anna Schmidt Slack. He attended school in Mason City. After his schooling, he worked for area ranchers. He served in the Korean Conflict. After the service, he worked in construction for Brown and Denesia. He later worked for Becton-Dickenson for 20 years, retiring in 1984.

He was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed watching and listening to all kinds of sports, especially Nebraska football, basketball and rodeos.

Mr. Slack is survived by two sisters, Veaun Kelly of Scottsbluff and Joan Roach of Littleton, Colo.; and four brothers, Boyd of Mason City, Arch of Sutherland, Roger of Ansley and John of Gothenburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Fund.

Services will be at 2 p.m Wednesday in the Mason City Cemetery with the Rev. Victor Crawford officiating.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.

Marie A. Smith
Marie Agnus Smith, 82, of North Platte died May 26, 2001, at the Great Plains Regional Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 20, 1918, on a farm near Weeping Water to Joseph and Grace Erhart Miller. She attended school in Manley and Weeping Water.

On Nov. 9, 1936, she married Phillip Smith in Manley. The couple moved to North Platte in 1937, and had been residents since.

She was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and Union Pacific Old Timers. She enjoyed fishing, crafts, cooking, dancing and her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband; two daughters, Judy (Fred) Fisher of Lincoln and Carol (Woody) Boyer of North Platte; a son, Ray (Tressie) of North Platte; three sisters, Dorothy Bourelle of Omaha, Ellen Voss and JoAnn (Myron) Richardson, both of Weeping Water; a brother, Merv (Barb) Miller of Michigan; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a special friend; Betty McElrath.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Phillip LeRoy; a daughter-in-law, Virginia Smith; a sister, Jackie Kelly; and a brother, Frank Miller.

Memorials are suggested to the Holy Spirit Catholic Church or to the Callihan Cancer Center in North Platte. Condolences to the family may also be sent to asfh@kdsi.net.

Christian Wake Services will be at 7 p.m. today at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Art Faesser as celebrant. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. today at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte.

Nelia B. Von Loh
ELWOOD - Nelia Von Loh, 75, of Elwood died May 27, 2001, at the Elwood Care Center.

She was born Feb. 8, 1926, at Holdrege to Roy and Catherine Adkins Blauvelt. She attended school in Holdrege.

On July 25, 1953, she married Gailard Von Loh. They lived on a farmsite south of Elwood, moving to Elwood in 1978. She worked at Becton-Dickenson for eight years and the Elwood Care Center for several years.

For 19 years she operated a day care business in her home.

During those years, she took care of the numerous Elwood area children and in many cases, second-generation children.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, was active in the Rebekah Lodge and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Alexis Club and the Neighborhood Birthday Club. She enjoyed embroidery, ceramics and swimming.

Mrs. Von Loh is survived by three daughters, Vicki Von Loh of Lincoln, Starla (Mike) Remmenga of Elwood and Sheri (Dave) Freeland of Oxford; three sons, Jerry (Jeanne) and Bob (Kristi), all of Elwood and Jim of Hartington; five sisters, Rose Olson, Calvia Jackson and Vi Jones, all of Holdrege, Dena (Larry) Menze of Scottsbluff and Donna (Virgil) Hanson of Boulder, Colo.; a brother, Bruce (Ali) Blauvelt of San Diego; 14 grandchildren, Ellisha, Roger, Gina, Heather, Suzanne, Nicole, James, Justin, Dustin, Jennifer, Christopher, Lacie, Whitney and Kyle; and nine great-grandchildren, Jordon, Lane, Ashley, Elisha Sage, Chase, Hayden, Cadence and Colin.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2000; a sister, Pearl Exceen; and a brother, Irvin.

A memorial has been established.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Christian Church at Elwood with the Rev. Ginny Hill officiating. Burial will be in the Elwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the church at Elwood.

Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad is in charge.
