Debra Beth Burgess
SCOTTSBLUFF - Debra Beth Burgess, 35, of Scottsbluff died May 30, 2001, at the Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.

She was born Sept. 3, 1965, in Alliance to Bernard and Ruth Stevens Burgess.

She spent 30 years of her life at the Area 2 Human Development Group Home in Scottsbluff.

Miss Burgess is survived by her parents of Ashby; three brothers, Gary, Bernie (Oliva) and Dave (Dixie); five nieces; two nephews; and several aunts, uncles and friends.

Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.

Services will be at 2 p.m. MDT Saturday at the Calvary Episcopal Church in Hyannis with the Rev. Christine Mottl officiating. Burial will be in the Ashby Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church in Hyannis.

The Mullen Funeral Home in Mullen is in charge.

Carl W. Nielsen
Carl W. Nielsen, 82, of North Platte died May 31, 2001, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 30, 1918, on the Garfield Table west of Arnold to Christ and Katherine Hansen Nielsen. He attended rural school in the area and graduated from Gandy High School.

In May 1940, he married Darlene V. Ostrom. They owned and operated a farm at Arnold. In 1948, they moved to Oregon, where they operated a gas station and grocery store. They returned to North Platte, where they owned and operated Nielsen's Grocery on Rodeo Road for a number of years.

Mr. Nielsen was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He was a part of North Platte Living History and the Senior Center. He was a gifted bowler, horseshoe player, avid gardener, enjoyed playing cards and he never met a stranger. He and his brother taught horseshoe pitching to elementary students.

Surviving him is a daughter, Diann D. (Loren) Rea of Moore, S.C.; a son, Dennis C. (Pat) of Moore; a brother, Albert C. (Nina Mae) Nielsen of North Platte; four grandchildren, Linda R. (Terry) Gregory, Lauri A. Rea, Lisa R. (Carl) Edwards and D. Carl II (Janine) Nielsen; five great-grandchildren, R. Alan and Matthew H. Campbell, Megan M. and Bradley R. Gregory and Elaine R. Nielsen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife on Jan. 20, 1998; four sisters, Anna Gill, Christine Essley, Pauline Barnes and an infant sister, Christina Nielsen; and five brothers, Paul, Nels, John, Andrew and Christian Nielsen.

Memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Sandra Patterson of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m., and further visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time on Sunday at the funeral home.

Gene Willard Paulsen
GOTHENBURG - Gene Willard Paulsen, 68, died May 30, 2001, at his home in Gothenburg.

He was born March 16, 1933, at Blair to Alfred and Rena Peterson Paulsen. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Omaha and graduated from Cozad High School in 1950.

His family lived in the Omaha area until 1946 when they moved to Cozad. In 1953, he married Marlene Owings. He served in the Army from 1954 to 1956. In Cozad, he worked and was a partner in the family business of Paulsen Building & Supply Co. until his retirement in 1985.

On Sept. 13, 1965, he married Lavonne "Bonnie" Ballmer.

Mr. Paulsen was a former partner in Hi Gain Feed Lot, owned a farm and hog operation and was a partner in Hicken Lumber. He was a member of American Legion Post 64 and a charter member of the Cozad Elks Club. He enjoyed golf, traveling, playing cards and especially enjoyed going to Mexico and Florida.

Surviving him is his wife, Bonnie; two sons, Steven (Joni) of Pleasanton and Michael (Sonya) of Oconto; a sister, Cleo ((Norman) Wilkins of Cozad; and two brothers, Lyle (Agnes) Paulsen of Tucson, Ariz., and Earl (Dody) Paulsen of Cozad; grandchildren Zach and Hadley of Pleasanton, Heath and Leah of Oconto, Nicky (Keith) Hemphill of Kearney and Reagan and Tara of Kansas; a great-grandson, Chris of Kansas; a sister-in-law, Roine Ecklund; a brother-in-law, John Gallagher; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother and sister-in-law, Ivan and Shirley Paulsen.

Memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian Church, the Gothenburg Fire Department and Great Plains Hospice in North Platte.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church in Gothenburg with the Rev. Steve Deines officiating. Burial will be in the Gothenburg Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Blase Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg.

Glen Vang
KIRKLAND, Wash. - Glen Vang, a 1935 graduate of North Platte High School, died May 21, 2001, at Kirkland, Wash. He was 88.

He was born May 3, 1913, at Wolbach to Carl and Jensina Jensen Vang.

On Nov. 2, 1941, he married Lois Grunden at First Presbyterian Church in North Platte. They had been married 59 years.

Mr. Vang served in the U.S. Navy from 1937 to 1940, with the U.S. Merchant Marines from 1944 to 1946 and with the Military Sea Transport Service from 1951 to 1954. He retired after 24 years with Sunstrand Data Corp.

Surviving him is his wife; a daughter, Sherin Vang of San Francisco; a son, Ronald (Cecilia) of Tucson, Ariz.; two sisters, Edna Mowrey of Denver and June Stackhouse of North Platte; a sister-in-law, Ione Rich of Albuquerque, N.M.; and several nieces and nephews, including Larry Meyer of North Platte and Karen Rich of Albuquerque.

Memorials are suggested to the Lions Club Eye Bank.

There were no services.

Fred LeRoy Gilmore
BROKEN BOW - Fred LeRoy Gilmore, 44, of Miller died May 31, 2001, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

He was born Sept. 19, 1956, to George Otis and Dolores Maxine Mason Gilmore in Pawnee City. He moved to Merna in 1968 with his mother and brothers. He graduated from Anslemo-Merna High School in 1975, and worked at New Holland. In 1979, he served in the Air Force as a Med Air Evac until 1985. While enlisted, he was stationed in Japan, Florida and St. Louis.

In 1986, he moved to New Jersey, where he was a nurseryman for six years. He returned to Nebraska in 1991 and continued in the nursery business until 1994, when he started working at Marshall Engine. He worked there until October 1999, when he became disabled.

On Dec. 26, 1999, he married Rhonda Hoes.

Mr. Gilmore is survived by his wife; three daughters, Jaimee, Katie and Winnie, all of Miller; his mother of Merna; his father of Rockwall, Texas; and three brothers, Paul of Tucson, Ariz., Joel of Amherst and Kurt of Miller.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Dale; and his father-in-law, Ronald Hulme.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Miller Christian Church with the Rev. David Harder officiating. Burial will be in the Merna Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Inverson Memorial Chapel in Broken Bow and until noon Tuesday at the church.

Steven Gail Lorenzen
FREMONT - Steven Gail Lorenzen, 51, of Fremont, died May 29, 2001.

He was born in Fremont to Gail and Darlene Franke Lorenzen in July 7, 1949. He lived in several places over the last 20 years including Omaha, Denver, Phoenix, and North Platte. He had been living in Norfolk for the past year.

He had worked at AT&T, Mountain Bell and Northwestern Bell for about 20 years before working for eight years at Ross Perry Motors in North Platte. Most recently, he had worked for KOOI in Norfolk.

Mr. Lorenzen is survived by a daughter, Ashley L. Lorenzen of Omaha.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Lorenzen Family Memorial fund c/o Omaha State Bank 12100 W. Center Road, Omaha, NE. 68144

Services will be at 11 a.m. June 11, 2001, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont.

Audrey A. Braun
EUSTIS - Audrey A. Braun, 56, died June 1, 2001, at the Cozad Community Hospital.

She was born Jan. 7, 1945, at Lexington to Carl and Irma Hueftle Braun. She graduated from Eustis High School in 1963 and continued her education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

She taught at Kent State University in Ohio for 27 years. While at Kent State, she received her Ph.D. in fashion and merchandising in 1983. Following her retirement, she returned to Eustis.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and served on the church council for a brief time. She was also a member of several educational associations. During her life she was active and helped people in various capacities. For the past three years, she was limited in activities due to ill health.

Survivors include her mother; a brother, Carl (Karol Sue) Braun of Dubuque, Iowa; a niece, Jaymie (Tom) Oehler of Omaha; and a nephew, Ryan Carl Braun of Iowa City, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her father in 1977.

A memorial has been established.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Eustis with the Rev. Bill Waterman officiating. Burial will be in the East Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the church.

Berryman Funeral Home of Cozad is in charge.

Lena B. Clark
LINCOLN - Lena Bertha Clark, 89, of Lincoln, formerly of North Platte, died May 31, 2001, at Homestead Health Care in Lincoln.

She was born Aug. 28, 1911, at Wellfleet to Michael and Mary Phillipie Ughrin. She graduated from Wellfleet High School and then moved to North Platte. She did housekeeping for the Hirschfelds for several years.

In 1935, she married Edward Leonard Clark in North Platte. They built the Bar-X Motel, which she operated until the early 1980s, when she sold it and retired.

Mrs. Clark enjoyed gardening, flowers, traveling, animals and her dog, Punky. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Altar Society.

She is survived by two daughters, Judy (Mel) Isley of Ceresco and Marlene (William) Laymon of North Platte; their father, Edward Clark of Lincoln; 12 grandchildren, Lisa (Johnny) Letts, Shelly (Art) Risley, Billy (Kim) Laymon and Cortney, Tiffany, Josh, Hunter, Holden, Jillian, Dallas, Brittany and Cairo Isley; six great-grandchildren, Jamie and Michael Laymon, Alexa and Christian Letts and Brier and Logan Isley; and many nieces and nephews

She was preceded in death by a son, Ronald E. Clark; her parents; seven sisters, Emma Neff, Anna Carlson, Rena Fletcher, Katherine Glaze, Mary Ellison, Genevieve Adams and Helen Zieger; and two brothers, Andrew Ughrin and an infant brother.

Memorials are suggested to the Lincoln Connection or Paws-itive Partners.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with the Rev. Richard Piontkowski Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the North Platte Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today and 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday at Odean Colonial Chapel and before services Saturday at the church.
