ROBERT E. CASE

Robert E. Case, 81, of St. Edward, NE, formerly of Columbus, NE died Saturday, July 15, 2000 at his residence in St. Edward. Services will be Wednesday, July 19, 2000 at 2:00 P.M. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus, NE. with Rev. Roland A. Jank officiating. Interment will be at the Roselawn Cemetery in Columbus with military honors by American Legion Hartman Post #84 Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, July 18, 2000 at Gass Haney Funeral Home in Columbus and on Wednesday, July 19, 2000 from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church with a family prayer service at 1:45 P.M.

Robert was born icon July 6, 1919 in St. Edward to Verne D. and Christine (Parker) Case. He attended St. Edward Public School and graduated from St. Edward High School in 1937. On November 10, 1942, Robert married Emogine Spitz in Seattle, Washington.
On July 15, 1940 he entered the US Navy. He served on the USS Idaho, USS Astoria, USS Kitkum Bay and the USS Cumberland Sound. He was a crew member of the USS Cumberland Sound, AV-17, a unit of the third fleet, when this ship entered Tokyo Bay, for the purpose of accepting the surrender of the Imperial Japanese Government and assisting in the subsequent Occupation of Japan. He was honorably discharged on July 19, 1946.
Robert was employed at American Telephone and Telegraph, Northwestern Bell and US West from August 1946 until he retired in November 1983. He traveled as a linemen for many years and then resided in Council Bluffs, IA until his retirement from US West. He moved to Columbus and resided here until his wife's death in 1996.and then moved to St. Edward, Nebraska.
He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus, a lifetime member of American Legion Post 84 and VFW Post 3704. He loved hunting in his younger years and music became his hobby in the later years.

LILLIAN L. ERNST

Lillian L. Ernst, 77, of Columbus, died Saturday, July 08, 2000 in Rural Platte County.

Services will be held at St. Luke's United Church of Christ, Columbus, NE on Wednesday, July 12, 2000 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Nancy Peebles officiating. Interment will be at the Roselawn Cemetery in Columbus.

Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Tuesday, from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM and at St. Luke's United Church of Christ on Wednesday, from 9:30 AM until service time.

Lillian L. Ernst, 77, was born icon October 9, 1922 to Philip and Rosina (Wolf) Bender in Wishek, North Dakota. She graduated from high school in Wishek and then attended St. Alexius Nursing College in Bismarck where she received her RN degree. She moved to Columbus in the 1940's and was a RN at the Columbus Hospitals. While working at the hospital she met Glenn J. Ernst and on September 20, 1946 they were married. They settled on the family farm south west of Columbus.
Lillian was a member of St. Luke's United Church of Christ where she had taught Sunday school. She also served as organist for the Church for many years. Lillian volunteered her time in many different ways. She helped with Meals on Wheels and enjoyed playing the piano at the area nursing homes. She loved music and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.

EVELYN E. CLARK

Evelyn E. Clark, 88, of Lincoln, NE formerly of Columbus, NE died Monday, July 31, 2000 at Bryan LGH Medical Center in Lincoln. Services will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Friday, August 4, 2000 at 10:30 A.M., with Rev. Don Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Columbus Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Thursday, August 3, 2000 from 3:00 PM - 8:00 P.M. and at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Friday, August 4, 2000 from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM.

Evelyn E. Clark was born icon September 10, 1911 in Pawnee County near Burchard, Nebraska to John and Allie (Schramm) Moffitt. She graduated from Burchard High School in 1928 and then attended the Lincoln School of Commerce. She married Royal Clark on August 8, 1936 in Lincoln, Nebraska, they moved to Columbus in 1938. Evelyn and her husband owned the Handy Grocery Store from 1953 to 1963. They moved to Lincoln, Nebraska in 1995. Evelyn was a past member of the Federated Church and previously active in the Platte County Historical Society, Federated Women's Group, PEO and Bridge Club. She will be remembered most for her lifelong devotion as a wife, mother and grandmother.

ROSE A. ASCHE

Rose A. Asche, 85, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Friday, December 01, 2000 at the Countryside Home in Madison, Nebraska. Services will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus, on Monday, December 04, 2000 at 10:30 AM with the Rev.'s Richard Bringewatt and Roland A. Jank officiating. Interment will be at the Columbus Cemetery in Columbus.
Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Sunday, from 3:00 PM - 8:00 PM and at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Monday, from 9:30 AM until service time. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 A.M., Monday, at the church.

Rose A. Asche, 85, was born icon on November 29, 1915 in Columbus, Nebraska to John and Emma (Lusche) Kaufman. She graduated from Kramer High School in Columbus and attended 2 years of college at Grinnell, Iowa. She married Gilbert Asche on October 15, 1936 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus.
Rose was a member of Chapter CH P.E.O., Immanuel Lutheran Church and enjoyed playing bridge. Her favorite past time was fishing. She would spend hours each weekend with her son at his home, out in his boat, fishing. Even with her health failing, she continued to enjoy her time with the family on family vacations as long as there was time for fishing.

Frances Ruth Deyke

Frances R. Deyke, 75, of Columbus, Nebraska died Monday, December 18, 2000 at Clarkson Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska.

Services are Friday, December 22, 2000 at 10:30 A.M. at Christ Lutheran Church, Rural Columbus, Nebraska with Rev. John E. Nelson Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Christ Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, December 21, 2000 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Gass Haney Funeral Home and Friday, December 22, 2000 from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. at Christ Lutheran Church. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 A.M. at the church.

Frances Ruth Deyke was born icon November 4, 1925 in Quanah, Texas to William H. and Ruby M. (Griffin) Lee. She attended elementary school in Acme, Texas and graduated from high school in Quanah, Texas. Frances attended Amarillo College in Amarillo, Texas and received an Associate Degree in Nursing. She married Elmer H. Deyke on May 21, 1977 in Vernon, Texas. She worked as a registered nurse for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and lived in Palestine, Texas for several years, then moved to Columbus in 1996.
Frances was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid, Lutherans Missionary League, and the Calico Quilt Club. Frances loved camping, fishing, cooking, and playing cards.

GAYLIN W. GOTSCHALL

Gaylin W. Gotschall, 75 of Columbus, died August 10, 2000 at his home. Services will be held at First United Methodist Church Columbus, NE on Monday, August 14, 2000 at 2:30 PM with Rev. Gary Main officiating. Interment will be at the Columbus Cemetery in Columbus with Military Honors by American Legion Honor Guard, Hartman Post 84.
Visitation will be held at Gass-Haney Funeral Home on Sunday, from 2:00 PM - 8:00 PM and at First United Methodist Church Columbus, NE on Monday, from 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM.

Gaylin was born icon May 24, 1925 in Springfield, SD to Glen and Astrid (Nelson) Gotschall. He lived in Knox County until 1938 and then moved to Monroe, NE area. He graduated from high school in Monroe.

He entered the Navy on October 13, 1943 (enlisting in Farragut, ID). He went to Oceanside, CA as part of the Boat Base Amphibious Forces. He studied voice code and short wave radio. He shipped out of San Francisco on a Danish freighter. He spent time on New Guinea, Woendi, Palau Island and other islands. From this area he went to Leyte where he drove a jeep for Lt. Hall, liaison officer for Base 21 and the flag ship USS Cyrene. He was relieved of this duty with a letter of recommendation for a job well done and returned to FEMU, Base 17 on Samar Island. It was aboard a fuel barge that he made Motor Machinist's Mate, Third Class. He was honorably discharged on December 28, 1945 in Norman, OK. In 1950 he enlisted in the USNR and served four years at NAS Lincoln, NE. On July 31, 1947 he married Dorothy Anderson in Falls City, NE. He worked as a mechanic in Monroe and at Behlen Mfg. in Columbus and later became self-employed. He was self employed until his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW and a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Memorials may be made to the donors choice.
