Peter H. Demers

Lebanon-Peter H. Demers, 82, a longtime resident of Twelfth Street, passed away in the late evening hours of Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center after a long illness. He was surrounded by his family.
He was born in Gorham-Cascade on April 24, 1926, a son of the late Louis and Antoinette (Morin) Demers. He attended local schools and was a lifetime resident of the area. Following his schooling, Peter enlisted in the US Navy and proudly served his country during WWII. He was awarded numerous medals and decorations, and returned home to Berlin following his discharge.
Peter was married to Jeannette (Labbe) on April 23, 1949, and the two raised five children. The family made their home on Twelfth Street and lived there more than 53 years. Peter was employed by Ware Knitters and later by Converse Rubber Co. as a Stitching Room Mechanic, where he was regarded as the “best’ mechanic. He retired in 1985.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating, especially at his Success Camp, “Pete’s Palace.” The family enjoyed camping and had traveled to Branson, Missouri and Tennessee. He had also enjoyed several cruises with his wife and a trip to Barbados. He was an avid sports enthusiast, especially when it came to hockey.
With Peter, family was first at all times. He loved his family and family barbecues, and any opportunities to spend time with them. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was loved by all whom he knew.
Peter is survived by his loving wife of over 59 years, Jeannette, and by his children: David Demers and his wife, Gerry, of Berlin; Edmund and his wife, Debbie, of Hopkinton; Denis and his wife, Felicia, of South Port, Fla.; Susan Bouchard and her husband, Norman, of Plaistow; and Lucie Taylor and her husband, Ronald, of Berlin. He is also survived by his brothers: Robert Demers and his wife, Jeanne, of Gorham; Normand Demers and his companion, Verle, of Gorham; and Ernest Demers and his wife, Denise, of Randolph. His sister-in-law Donna Glover and her husband, Donald, of Wilson’s Mills, Maine, and his brother-in-law, Albert Nadeau, of Lancaster. He will be remembered by his grandchildren: James, Katie, Jeffrey, Sarah, Matthew, Billy, Brian, Devin, Gary, Amy, Ryan and Wendy and by his great-grandchildren: Ashlyn, Alexander, Carrie, Thalitha and Glen, many nieces and nephews and numerous friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents as well as by a sister, Annette Nadeau, and a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Demers.
Friends and relatives may call on the family on Saturday, July 5 from 6 to 8 p.m., on Sunday, July 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Monday, July 7 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Fleury-Patry Funeral Home, 72 High Street in Berlin using the School Street entrance.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 7, 2008 at 11 a.m. at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd, 345 Pleasant Street in Berlin with the Reverend Jeffrey Statz officiating.
Interment with full Military Honors will follow in Holy Family Cemetery, Church Street in Gorham immediately following the Mass.

Paul E. Pinette

BERLIN -- Funeral services for Mr. Paul E. Pinette, 75, of Berlin were held on June 28, 2008 at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish, following prayers at the Bryant Funeral Home. The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Reverend Richard Roberge. Interment was in St. Anne Cemetery. Father Roberge read the committal prayers. The pallbearers, all Red Jacket members of the Kiwanis Club, were Paul Lafleur, Maurice Caron, Larry Lombardi, Dan Blais, Bill Kennedy and John Forbes. Honorary Delegations represented were the Guardian Angel Credit Union Board of Directors, the Kiwanis Club and the Notre Dame Class of 1951.
Many relatives and friends attended the service.

Matthew “Matt” “Matty” George Laney

FARMINGTON—Matthew “Matt” “Matty” George Laney, 28, of Farmington, passed away on July 3, 2008 at the Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine.
He was born March 21, 1980 in Dover, the son of Dave A. and Elaine M. (Cutter) Laney. He attended Kingswood High School. Matt lived in the area most of his life but recently resided in The Great North Woods (Errol and Colebrook).
Matty was a passionate outdoorsman and sportsman. He excelled at archery and mentored many young people in hunting and shooting with a bow. He was employed at LL Cote in Errol as an Archery Technician and salesman in the Archery department.
Matt was loved by all who knew him and will be sorely missed by all. He loved The Great North Woods and the people he got to know there. An Avid Red Sox Fan, he also enjoyed playing softball.
Matt is survived by the love of his life: Kristina Cote of Colebrook; his mother and father: Dave and Elaine Laney, of Farmington; his brother and sister-in-law, Dave and Debra Laney; Nephews Douglas and Devin Laney; Niece Emily Laney, all of Farmington; Grandfather George E. Laney Jr. of Fort Mill, SC, as well as many special aunts and uncles, including Frank and Jean Cutter, of Farmington, George and Viv Laney, of Madbury, Mark and Terri Laney, of Lee, Daniel Shannon, of Thompson Falls, Montana, June Cutter and Norma Wheeler, both of New Durham, Carlene LaPierre, of Farmington, Susan Montana, of Dover, Becky Laney, of Fort Mill, SC, cousins and friends including Eric Giles (Little Matthew wanna be), of New Durham, and his other “Parents” Spade and Vicki Phalen of Strafford.
He would also love for his cousin “CJ” to carry on his legacy.
Calling hours will be on Monday, July 7, 2008 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. at the Peaslee Funeral Home, 24 Central Street, Farmington, NH 03835. A funeral service will held on Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at 11 a.m. in the chapel at the funeral home. The family asks that in lieu of flowers contributions in Matt's memory be made to the Laney Family Benefit Fund, C/O Profile Bank, P.O. Box 1808, Rochester, NH 03866. Proceeds will be dispersed in the form of donations or scholarships to youth organizations teaching archery and hunting skills.

Joshua Michael Scoppetto

BERLIN -- Mr. Joshua Michael Scoppetto, 26, of 408 Champlain St., Berlin, NH, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at the Maine Medical Center in Portland, Me. He was born in New Haven, Conn., on November 27, 1981, the son of Albert S. and Debra J. (Handrinos) Scoppetto and has lived in Berlin since 1990. He attended school in Berlin and earned an Associate Degree at the White Mountain Community College. He was best known for his expert guitar playing abilities and his unique sense of humor, which he was well liked for. He enjoyed working with computers and going fishing.
Members of the family include his parents, Albert and Debra Scoppetto of Berlin; one brother, Justin Scoppetto of Berlin; maternal grandmother, Carol Callahan of Bristol, Conn.; maternal grandfather, Theodore Handrinos of Berlin; paternal grandparents, Albert and Marie Scoppetto of West Haven, Conn.; aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday morning, July 26, at 11 a.m. at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish, 345 Pleasant Street, Berlin. Jason A. Houle

BERLIN -- Jason A. Houle, 32, passed away unexpectedly in his home in the early evening hours of Tuesday, July 22, 2008.
He was born in Berlin on March 1, 1976, a son of Andre P. Houle and Joanne Giroux. He attended local schools, and was a 1994 graduate of Berlin High School. After high school, Jason worked in construction with his uncle Dan, and had also worked as a chef. He loved to cook and was an excellent chef. He loved music, playing music, and listening to Metallica. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family, but his greatest love was for his son, Travis. He loved playing sports with Travis, and watching him play. He was a great father, and will be sadly missed.
He is survived by his parents, Andy Houle of Berlin and Glen, and Joanne Giroux, of Berlin and Daytona Beach, Fla. He is also survived by his grandmother, Louise Giroux of Berlin; his girl friend; Brianna Bunch; his sister, Katie Houle of Berlin; many aunts and one uncle; numerous cousins and his niece Jayden.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Real Giroux, Archie and Evangeline (Morin) Houle.
Friends and relatives may call on the family on Friday, July 25, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Fleury-Patry Funeral Home, 72 High Street in Berlin, using the School Street entrance.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 26, at 1 p.m. at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish, 345 Pleasant Street in Berlin with the Reverend Richard Roberge officiating.
Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cates Hill Road, in Berlin.

Florence M. Laroche

BERLIN -- A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Florence M. Laroche, of Berlin on Saturday, July 18, 2008 at St. Anne Church Good Shepherd Parish with Fr. Richard Roberge as celebrant. The cantors were Sally Tourangeau and Denise Sanschagrin, accompanied by Susan Ramsey as organist.
The pall was placed by her husband, Eugene Laroche; her son, Leo; her daughter, Sr. Louise, and her sister, Jeanne Paradis. Sr. Louise also placed the cross and her son Leo placed the Bible. Serving as readers were her cousin, Clemence Simard and her daughter, Sr. Louise Laroche. The offertory gifts were presented by her sister, Pauline O’Leary, and her niece, Kathy Blodgett. A eulogy was given by her daughter Sr. Louise and her son Leo Laroche.
Interment followed the services in St. Anne Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Andre Gauthier, Donald Duquette, Leo Gagne, Henry Riendeau, Roland Rivard and Robert Laflamme. There were numerous friends and family members that attended the services.
A delegation from the Marie Rivier Association included Jacqueline Ramsey, Sally M. Tourangeau, Gert Bacon, J.P. and Cecile Poirier, Laurette Poulin, Anita Morin, Lucille Montminy, Irene Desilets, John DeChamplain, Elsie Brochu, Jeannette Fortier, Beatrice Wheeler, Priscilla Bergeron, Muriel Blais, Lucille Morin, Juliette Quintal, Rolande Cloutier, Dorothy LeBreton, Patrick Parent, Rita Parent, Robert and Denise Sanschagrin, George J. Murphy, Barbara Vachon and Ginger Doherty.

Lionel R. Baillargeon

BERLIN -- Lionel R. Baillargeon, 79, passed away in the late evening hours of Friday, July 25, 2008 at the Androscoggin Valley Hospital, following a period of declining health.
He was born in Coaticook, PQ ,on March 5, 1929, a son of the late Henri and Florence (Baillargeon) Therrien. He attended area schools, and later moved to Berlin. Lionel was married to Alice (Aubut) on December 27, 1951, and the two raised three children. The family moved to First Street in 1968, and Lionel and Alice have lived there since.
He was employed as a rigger for the Brown Co, later known as James River, retiring in 1994 with over 41 years of service. Lionel loved being at home and caring for his home. He enjoyed tending to his garden and keeping the outside of his home neat and tidy, even in the winter. He loved his car, an Oldsmobile, and could often be found taking care of it as well. His greatest love was for his family, however. He was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather and loved anytime spent with family. He will be sadly missed.
Lionel is survived by his beloved wife of over 56 years, Alice; his son ,Maurice “Moe” Baillargeon and his wife Merri of Fryeburg, Me.; his daughter, Maggie Lacasse and her husband Raymond of Berlin, and his sister, Hermance Gagnon and her husband Roland, also of Berlin. He will also be remembered by his grandchildren, Amy, Christopher, Brandy, Mike, Becky, Crystal, Mel, Eric, Tif, Ray and Amandra and by his great-grandchildren, McKayla, Dakotta, Nautia and Jesse, many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Nancy Eckstron on May 30, 2007, as well as by his brothers, Henri and Oliver Baillargeon, and his sisters, Yvette Valliere and Evelyn Fortier.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 2, at 1 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cates Hill Road in Berlin with the Deacon Merle Albert officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Fleury-Patry Funeral Homes of Berlin and Gorham.

Lola Goulette

BERLIN -- Mrs. Lola (Soucy) Goulette, 78, of 4 Clover Lane, Berlin, passed away on Friday July 25, 2008 at the St. Vincent de Paul Healthcare Center in Berlin. She was born in Berlin on September 10, 1929, the daughter of Andre and Marie Madeleine (Labbe) Soucy and lived in Berlin for many years. She moved to Vermont in the early 1970s and returned to Berlin in 2005 after the death of her husband, Warren. She graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1947 and was very involved in her class reunions. She was an avid crossword puzzle fan and enjoyed reminiscing with friends and family.
Members of the family include her son, Michael R. Goulette and his wife Priscille of Berlin; grandson, Aaron Goulette of Manchester; sisters, Dolores Villeneuve of Plattsburg, NY, and Mona Vachon of Tewksbury, Mass.; brother Keith Soucy of Cambridge, Mass.; nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband Warren Goulette in 2005 and by her parents.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at on Saturday morning, August 30, 2008 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of the Bryant Funeral Home, 180 Hillside Ave., Berlin. Interment will be in St. Kieran Cemetery. Anyone who wishes may make a donation in her memory to AVH Home Health and Hospice Services, 59 Page Hill Road, Berlin, NH, 03570.

Mr. William Gemmiti

Funeral services for Mr. William “Bill” Gemmiti, 73, of New Port Richey, FL and formerly of Berlin, N.H., were held on November 15, 2008 at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish, in Berlin, following prayers at the Bryant Funeral Home, in Berlin.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Reverend Richard Roberge. Interment followed in St. Kieran Cemetery with Father Roberge reading the committal prayers.
The Pall Bearers were Brian Middleton, Dustin Ryan, Jay Gemmiti, Brandon Gemmiti, Michael Perry and Vinnie Pino.
Full Military Honors were extended by members of the U.S. Marine Corps and the White Mountain Veterans Council. Representing the White Mountain Veterans Council as members of the VFW Post #2520 were Robert Mitchell and Gary Roy, Richard L’Heureux and Jack Gothreau from the CPL Richard Demers Marine Corps Detachment and John Gleason from the American Legion Post #82. The flag was folded and presented to Mrs. Shirley Gemmiti by members of the US Marine Corps.
Many relatives and friends attended the services.
