Albert B. Blackadar

SOUTH HAMPTON - Albert B. Blackadar, 74, died Tuesday, March 25, 2003, in Portsmouth Regional Hospital, Portsmouth.

He was born in June 9, 1928, in Methuen, Mass., the son of the late Harry and Olive (Banks) Blackadar. He had resided in Florida before coming to South Hampton.

He was a graduate of Haverhill High School and attended Berkshire Prep School.

Mr. Blackadar founded Blackadar Insurance Agency, Plaistow, in 1973, which he sold in 1988, when he opened Blackadar Marine Insurance in So. Hampton, retiring in 2002. After his retirement he concentrated his efforts on restoring and showing classic wooden Chris Crafts.

He also owned and operated Indian Hill Tree Farm, So. Hampton, after planting the first tree in 1989. In 2002 he received the "New Hampshire Farms of Distinction Award" from the New Hampshire Department of Agriculture.

He was a member of the Saggahew Lodge A.F. & A.M., and while in Haverhill, he served on the Planning Board.

He was an avid tuna fisherman having owned and operated several sport-fishing boats.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Martha A. (Kreeger) Blackadar of So. Hampton; two sons, Lloyd H. Blackadar of Hampstead, and Albert B. Blackadar and his wife Dorothy of Searsport, Maine; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Vernon Blackadar of Lithia, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Christ Episcopal Church, Pine St., Exeter, NH, (Off Route 108). Burial will be in So. Hampton Cemetery, So. Hampton.

Memorial donations may be made to Patient Advocate for Advanced Cancer Treatment, PO Box 141695, Grand Rapids, MI, 49514.

Arrangements were by the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, Haverhill.

Mary Jane Bowley

EAST KINGSTON - Mary Jane Bowley, 65, of Stage Coach Road, died Tuesday, March 25, 2003, in Ellsworth, Maine.

She was born May 2, 1937, in New York, the daughter of the late Joseph and Helen (Powell) Dorsey. She had been a resident of East Kingston since 1962, and was formerly of Long Island, N.Y., and Haverhill, Mass.

She was a graduate of Haverhill High School and received her bachelor’s degree in English from Merrimack College.

Mrs. Bowley taught English in New York and Haverhill for 10 years. In 1984 she began librarian work for Holland, Donovan and Beckett Law Firm and was active until her death.

The widow of Eben "Mel" Bowley, she is survived by two sons, James Bowley of Boston and Joseph Bowley of East Kingston.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 3 to 5:15 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter. Funeral services will follow at 5:15 p.m. in the funeral home.

Flowers are acceptable or memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Lorraine M. Champion

DANVILLE - Lorraine M. Champion, 82, of 34 Caleb Drive, died Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack.

She was born Feb. 10, 1921, in the family homestead in Williamstown, Pa., the daughter of the late Louis and Lida (Coles) Miller. She resided on Perkins Road at Rye Beach from 1953 until 1976, moving to Twin Mountain until 1986 when she retired to Spring Hill, Fla. She returned to New Hampshire in 2001.

Mrs. Champion was a bookkeeper at Phillips Exeter Academy for several years.

The widow of the Rev. Frederick A. Champion, her husband of 49 years who died in 1992, she is survived by one son and his wife, Gordon H. and Marie Champion of Danville; two daughters and their husbands, Laurie and Tom Healy of Lee and Wendy and Ron Klukowski of Lakeland, Fla.; four grandchildren; two brothers, Lane Miller of Schenectady, N.Y., and Lawrence Miller of Lykens, Pa.; two sisters, Laura Underkoffler of Schenectady and Lois Welch of Williamstown; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.

Graveside services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Central Cemetery, Rye.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Community Hospice House, 210 Naticook Road, Merrimack, NH 03054.

Joseph C. Frackleton

HAMPTON - Joseph C. Frackleton, 81, died Monday, March 24, 2003, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Bedford, Mass.

He was born Oct. 29, 1921, in Boston, the son of the late John J. and Margaret (Flynn) Frackleton. He had resided in Glen and North Conway, West Roxbury, Everett and Charlestown, Mass.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Mr. Frackleton had a 34-year career with the Boston Fire Department, retiring in 1981, having achieved the rank of captain. He saved many lives and was injured several times in the line of duty while serving in some of the most active fire companies in Boston, including the South End, Government Center and the North End. He was an emergency medical technician with the department’s rescue division and was an instructor at the Fire Academy.

He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church and a member of the Holy Name Society. He was a former member of Our Lady of the Mountains in North Conway, Holy Name Parish in West Roxbury, Mass., and the Knights of Columbus Council in Milton, Mass.

He was a health enthusiast and loved the outdoors. He frequently rode his bike through city streets from his home to the firehouse. He enjoyed gardening, hiking, camping and skiing.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary (Geary) Frackleton; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Thomas J. Frackleton of Madison, Wis., Joseph C. and Sheila Frackleton of Framingham, Mass., Stephen M. Frackleton of Forest, Va., and John J. and Maura Frackleton of Westford, Mass.; one daughter and her husband, Kathleen M. and Dale Scribner of Andover, Mass.; eight grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by five siblings, Mary Phinney, John, Edward and Francis Frackleton and Theresa Phinney.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Thursday in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton. Burial was in N.H. State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 10 Ferry St., Suite 427B, Concord, NH 03301.

Marilyn O’Hara

HENDERSON, Nev. - Marilyn "Molly" O’Hara, 71, died March 10, 2002, in St. Rose Hospital, Henderson.

She was born Aug. 16, 1931, in Boston and had resided in Chelsea, Mass., before moving to Nevada.

Mrs. O’Hara was a teller at the Broadway National Bank in Chelsea for 30 years.

She is survived by her husband, Brian O’Hara of Henderson; one son, Richard Marcella of East Kingston; one daughter, Carole Belleveau of Brentwood; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 5, at 11 a.m. in St. Rose Church, Broadway, Chelsea.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

Mary E. Pierce

RYE - Mary Evelyn Pierce, 77, died Thursday, March 27, 2003, at her home.

She was born April 14, 1925, in Toledo, Ohio, the daughter of the late Harry W. and Doris (Blair) Carter, and had resided in Rye since 1992.

She was a graduate of DeVilbiss High School, Toledo.

Mrs. Pierce was employed by the Plaskon Division of the Libby-Owens-Ford Glass Co. in Toledo before her marriage.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Ralph T. Pierce Jr. of Rye; 11 children, Ralph T. Pierce III of Gloucester, Mass., Gregory G. Pierce of Nashville, Tenn., Amy G. Pierce of Stoneham, Mass., Gerard C. Pierce of Newmarket, John L. Pierce of Stratham, Theresa Pierce of Wellesley, Mass., Paul A. Pierce of Bradford, Mass., Thomas A. Pierce of Hampton, Patricia A. Pierce of Hampstead, Priscilla A. Roche of Peabody, Mass., and Jill M. Pierce of Hampton; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

There are no calling hours.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. in St. James Church, 2075 Lafayette Road, Portsmouth. Private burial will be in Central Cemetery, Rye.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Portsmouth Home Health & Hospice, 95 Albany St., Portsmouth, NH 03801.

Assistance with the arrangements was by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton.

Robert E. Steller Jr.

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Robert E. Steller Jr., 45, died Friday, March 21, 2003, in Norwalk Hospital, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.

Mr. Steller attended New Canaan schools and was a 1976 graduate of Canterbury School. He received his bachelor’s degree from Ithaca College and went on to specialize in information technology.

He is survived by his wife, Heidi (Nees) Steller of Fairfield; two daughters, Kristen Steller and Caroline Steller; one son, Robert Steller; his mother, Patricia (O’Gara) Steller of New Canaan; his father, Dr. Robert E. Steller of Kiawah, S.C.; two sisters, Patricia Grace of New York City and Eileen Holtvedt of Atherton, Calif.; two brothers, Dr. Michael Steller of Providence, R.I., and David G. Steller of Grantham; and eight nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Fairfield.

Memorial donations may be made to the Robert E. Steller Jr. Family Trust, Salomon, Smith, Barney, One Citizens Plaza, Suite 600, Providence, RI 02906.

Arrangements were by the Spear Funeral Home, Fairfield.

Andree Tharin

ELLICOTT CITY, Md. - Andree (Caron) Tharin, 84, died March 5, 2003.

She was born in Manchester and had resided in Exeter for 26 years moving to West Palm Beach, Fla., in 1966. She had resided at Millennium Nursing Home in Ellicott City for three years.

Mrs. Tharin worked in the business office of The Everglades Club in Palm Beach. She had previously worked at the Exeter Inn and as a bookkeeper for Goldman Tire.

She was a member and treasurer of the West Palm Beach branch of the American Business Women’s Association and was a long time active member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. While in Exeter she was active in the Girl Scout organization as a troop leader and chairman of the Girl Scout Cookie Drive and was a member of St. Michael Church.

The widow of Jesse Tharin, who died in 1976, she is survived by three daughters, Suzanne Neri of Columbia, Md., Michele Hoffman and her husband David of Toledo, Ohio, and Danielle Tharin of West Palm Beach; one son and his wife, Jesse P. and Mitzi Tharin of Tucson, Ariz.; three grandchildren; one sister, Paulette Gobin of Winter Haven, Fla., and two step grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated March 12 in Holy Name of Jesus Church. Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Park, West Palm Beach.

Florence N. Beairsto

EXETER - Florence Naomi (Pearton) Beairsto, 96, of Langdon Place, died Thursday, March 20, 2003.

She was born Aug. 5, 1906, in Lennoxville, Quebec, Canada, the daughter of James and Florence (Clayton) Pearton. She came to the United States in her late teens and became a U.S. citizen in 1942.

She was a 1927 graduate of Hale Hospital School of Nursing in Haverhill, Mass.

Mrs. Beairsto was a nursing supervisor at the Rockingham County Nursing Home, from 1967 until 1983, and retired when she was 76 years old. She had previously directed the lunch program at Stratham Elementary School for several years and had worked in the X-ray department at Hale Hospital and as a special duty nurse in the Haverhill area.

She was an active member of Stratham Community Church, where she taught Sunday School, and worked as a volunteer in the church’s Clothes Attic for many years.

She was a member of the Stratham 76ers and enjoyed traveling.

The widow of John H. Beairsto, her husband of 35 years, who died in 1966, she is survived by two sons, Robert C. Beairsto of Piscataway, N.J., and the Rev. Henry A. Beairsto of Barnstead; one stepson, Norman E. Beairsto of Stratham; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and one sister, Annie Grady of Lennoxville.

She was predeceased by one brother, Harry Pearton, and one sister, Jean Pearton.

Memorial services were held Saturday in Stratham Community Church. Spring burial will be in Congregational Church Cemetery, Stratham.

Memorial donations may be made to Stratham Community Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 143, Stratham, NH 03885.

Arrangements were by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter.

Patricia A. Koebrich

EXETER - Patricia Alderman Koebrich, 68, of 8 Boulder Brook Drive, died Saturday, March 22, 2003, at her home after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born July 12, 1934, in Holyoke, Mass., the daughter of the late Albert and Madelyn (Harrigan) Alderman. She resided in Los Angeles, Calif., and Ramsey, N.J., and came to Exeter in 1980 from Fairfield, Conn.

She was a graduate of Holyoke High School and the College of Lifelong Learning at the University of New Hampshire with a bachelor’s degree in management.

Mrs. Koebrich was a personal assistant for the CEO of Agpogent Technologies of Portsmouth.

She was a communicant of St. Michael’s Church, Exeter. Along with her husband, she enjoyed her hobby of cooking. She belonged to the Rockingham Craftsmen, where they featured her entertainment handbook, "Recipes for a Very Successful Party." Mrs. Koebrich and her husband also offered many of their recipes for sampling.

She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Frank J. Koebrich of Exeter; one son and his wife, J. Donald and Lisa Koebrich of Tampa, Fla.; and one sister-in-law, Eleanor Alderman of South Hadley, Mass.

Calling hours will be held today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Stockbridge Funeral Home, 141 Epping Road, Exeter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Michael Church, Front Street, Exeter. Private burial will be in the Forestdale Cemetery, Holyoke, Mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833.
