Pauline I. Edwards

RAYMOND - Pauline I. Edwards, 81, of Downing Street, died Saturday, March 1, 2003, at Exeter Healthcare after a period of failing health.

She was born Jan. 27, 1922, in Haverhill, Mass., the daughter of the late Howard and Hazel (McLure) Edwards and lived most of her life in Raymond.

She was a graduate of Raymond High School.

She was a U.S. Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps veteran serving three tours in Germany and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict.

She retired as a staff sergeant in 1963. Before enlisting in the service in 1943 she had been employed at the Raymond post office for several years.

Miss Edwards was employed by Ben Franklin Department Store in Raymond for almost 20 years. She was a member of the Maple Wheadon Post 4479, Veterans of Foreign Wars of Raymond and was the first woman in the state’s history to join a VFW.

She enjoyed playing bingo and loved animals.

She is survived by one sister, Shirley Hill of Exeter; one brother, Paul Edwards of Raymond; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, On the Common, Raymond.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home.

Military burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Raymond.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the N.H. SPCA, P.O. Box 196, Stratham, NH 03885.

Victor A. Jones

ROCHESTER - Victor A. Jones, 55, of 13 Green St., died Saturday, March 1, 2003, in Catholic Medical Center, Manchester.

He was born April 24, 1947, in Exeter, the son of Gertrude (Gauron) Jones of Hampton and the late Victor E. Jones and was raised in Hampton.

He was a graduate of Winnacunnet High School.

Mr. Jones was a U.S. Air Force veteran of 20 years serving during the Vietnam era. Following his retirement he moved to Rochester and worked for Internal Revenue Service in North Andover, Mass.

He was a member of St. James Lodge No. 102, F & AM of Hampton; the Scottish Rite Bodies; the Tainger Temple, 32nd degree of Nebraska; and the Raymond E. Walton American Legion Post No. 70 of Seabrook.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing and hunting.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 27 years, Susan J. (Scruton) Jones of Rochester; one son, William G. Jones of Rochester; three daughters, Paula M. Bennett of Rochester, Heather M. Jones of Plymouth and Victoria L. Jones of Dover; one grandson; one brother, Alan Jones of Hampton; one sister, Pamela Cooper of Seabrook; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home.

Burial will be in High Street Cemetery, Hampton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Burns Institute, 51 Blossom St., Boston, MA 02114.

Jack D. Lynch

STRATHAM - Jack Dwyer Lynch, 64, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, in Exeter Hospital.

He was born Dec. 11, 1938, in Canandaigua, N.Y., the son of the late James and Barbara (Tibbetts) Lynch. He was raised in Groveton, Mass.

He was a graduate of Groveton High School and received his bachelor’s degree in education from Plymouth Teacher’s College, where he received 13 varsity letters and was named to the Plymouth State College Hall of Fame in 1992. He earned his master’s degrees from Atlanta University in Georgia and the University of New Hampshire and his doctorate from Columbia Pacific University, United Kingdom campus.

Mr. Lynch began his career in education at Laconia High School. He then worked at Merrimack Valley High School, Gilford High School, the Hyde School in Bath, Maine, and Rice Memorial High School in South Burlington, Vt.

He also worked in international education in The Hague, Holland, London, England, Quito, Ecuador and most recently in Rotterdam, Holland.

He coached Babe Ruth Baseball, high school tennis, youth hockey and high school golf. He was the teaching pro at Den Brac Golf Course in Sanbornton for many summers.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Hechler-Lynch; two sons, John Lynch of Westmoreland and Michael Lynch of Sugar Hill; three daughters, Kathleen Hogan of Fairfax, Vt., Caley Lynch and Christiane Lynch of Stratham; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by one sister, Sharon DeMayo of Newport.

Private family services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Joanne H. Martin

NORTH HAMPTON - Joanne (Hobbs) Martin, 70, of Elm Road died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, at her home after a lengthy illness.

She was born April 4, 1932, in Newburyport, Mass., the daughter of the late Paul. W. and Dorothy (Tarr) Hobbs and had been a lifelong resident of North Hampton.

She was a 1950 graduate of Hampton Academy and a 1954 graduate of the University of New Hampshire where she played field hockey, basketball and softball.

Mrs. Martin was a physical education teacher in North Hampton and Rye schools for more than 25 years.

She is survived by one daughter and her husband, Kim and Arthur "Jo-Jo" Nadeau of North Hampton; one son and his wife, Glenn and Lisa Martin of North Hampton; two granddaughters; one brother, Kenneth Hobbs of Illinois and Florida; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

There are no calling hours.

Services will be held Saturday, March 8, at 2 p.m. in United Church of Christ, Atlantic Avenue, North Hampton. Spring burial will be in Center Cemetery, North Hampton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the N.H. SPCA, P.O. Box 196, Stratham, NH 03885 or to Seacoast Visiting Nurse Association, 29 Lafayette Road, North Hampton, NH 03862.

Arrangements are by the Stockbridge Funeral Home, Exeter.

Rowena W. May

RYE - Rowena W. May, 82, formerly of Huntervale Avenue, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, at the Inn at Deerfield.

She was born Oct. 12, 1920, in Lowell, Mass., the daughter of the late Thomas and Adele (Smith) Curley. She resided in Kittery, Maine, before moving to Rye in 1949.

She was a graduate of Westford (Mass.) High School and Lowell General Hospital School of Nursing.

Mrs. May was a registered nurse at Portsmouth Regional Hospital and for Dr. Gerald B. Shattuck of Portsmouth for several years.

The widow of Joseph F. May, who died in 1989, she is survived by four sons, Joseph May Jr. of Norwich, Conn., Dennis May of Dover, David May of Sanford, Maine, and Jeffrey May of Meriden, Conn.; two daughters, Nancy May of Deerfield and Janet May of Hampden, Maine; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Barbara Prescott of Bound Brook, N.J., and several nieces and nephews.

Private graveside services will be held in Central Cemetery, Rye.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. 10 Ferry St., Suite 427B, Concord, NH 03301.

Barbara Ann Ryan

HAMPTON - Barbara Ann Reger Ryan, 56, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, at her home.

She was born Aug. 10, 1946, in Minneapolis, Minn., the daughter of the late Gordon and Irene (Chase) Reger.

She is survived by her husband, John J. Ryan of Hampton; one daughter, Meagan Ryan of Washington, D.C.; one son, Sean Ryan of Hampton and Washington, D.C.; four sisters, Colleen Eagle of Monroe, Wash., Rosemarie Rumsey of St. Paul, Minn., Judy Reger of Norwood, Mass., and Maureen Butterfield of Golden Valley, Minn.; two brothers, Gordon Reger of Brooklyn Park, Minn., and Thomas Reger of Otsego, Minn.; nine nieces and three nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Monday in Our lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton. After cremation interment will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Corcoran, Minn.

Memorial donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, 289 Lafayette Road, Hampton, NH 03842.

Arrangements were by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton.

George E. Weatherbee III

WISCASSET, Maine - George Edward Weatherbee III, 78, formerly of Seabrook, died Friday, Feb. 28, 2003 at his sister’s home in Wiscasset.

He was born in Staten Island, N.Y., the son of George Edward and Clara M. (Randolph) Weatherbee Jr. and had resided in Connecticut and the Virgin Islands before moving to Seabrook in 1996.

He attended Wiscasset schools and was a graduate of Staten Island High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Mr. Weatherbee was employed in the Wiscasset area for several years and later at the South Portland West Shipyard. He was a self-employed marine cultivator in Wiscasset for many years, at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft Company in Connecticut, and was later a glass glazier on high-rise buildings in New York, Oregon and Connecticut until retiring in 1988.

He was a life member of the Glass Glazing Union and enjoyed fishing, hunting and dog track racing.

He is survived by one son, Robert Weatherbee of New Jersey; two sisters, Margaret K. Colby of Wiscasset and Lillian Z. Pereira of Cambridge, Mass.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside services will be held in Greenlawn Cemetery, Wiscasset, in the spring.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Association, 1 Main Street, Suite 300, Topsham, Maine 04086.

Arrangements are by the Mayo & Daigle Funeral Home, Wiscasset.

Joseph H. Bouchard

RAYMOND - Joseph H. "Joe" Bouchard, 80, of Melody Lane, died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, in Exeter Hospital from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

He was born Jan. 4, 1923, in Brentwood, the son of the late Alphonse and Elizabeth (Hoyt) Bouchard. He was raised in Brentwood and had resided in Raymond for more than 50 years.

He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II serving as an airplane mechanic.

Mr. Bouchard was retired from Currier’s in Raymond.

He was a member of the Maple Wheadon Post No. 4479, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Raymond, and enjoyed bowling and playing cards.

The widow of Lulu (McFarland) Bouchard, he is survived by four daughters, Judy Sullivan, Jacqueline Lang, Jane Barnes and Janet Bouchard, all of Raymond; three sons, Jerry Bouchard of Milton and James Bouchard and John Bouchard, both of Raymond; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four sisters, Roseanna Porter of Fremont, and Pearl Purington, Ruth Chase and Shirley Parmenter, all of Raymond; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by one son, Jeffrey Bouchard; a baby girl; one sister, Dorothy Purington; and one brother, Paul Bouchard.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Raymond Methodist Church with the Rev. Kwan Lee officiating. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service. Military burial will be in New Pine Grove Cemetery, Raymond.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 360 Route 101, Bedford, NH 03110.

Arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Raymond.
