Valerie D. Irwin, 52, of Tamworth, died suddenly at her home on May 9, 2001.
Born in West Chester, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Kenneth M. Irwin and Margaretta D. Hisler. She was formerly of Cambridge, Mass., and moved to New Hampshire in 1991.
She loved Native American arts and crafts, animals and nature, and she spent many hours reading and writing poetry.
She is survived by three sons, Christopher Irwin, of Ogden, Utah, Peter J. Irwin, of North Conway, and Adam J. Irwin, of East Conway; and two grandchildren.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no visiting hours.
Donations in her memory may be sent to the Madison Church or the Loki Clan Wolf Refuge.
There will be a gathering for family and friends at the home of Peter J. Irwin, 1140 Eastman Road, Apt. 6, behind Discount Beverage, on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Grace H. Smith, 104, of Conway, died May 8, 2001, at Sunbridge Nursing Home in North Conway of old age.
Born April 21, 1897, in Gloversville, N.Y., daughter of the late Arthur W. and Marian S. (Bennett) Smith, she had lived in Conway since 1970, previously living in Rochester and Kingston, R.I.
Miss Smith is a graduate of Cornell University, class of 1921. She had worked as a home economist for the University of Rhode Island, retiring in 1959, and the New Hampshire County Extension, retiring in 1970. She was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of the Women's Club of North Conway.
Pre-deceased by a nephew, Frank Smith, she leaves a niece, Valerie Hannah of Salisbury, Md., a nephew Winslow Smith of Acton, Maine, and numerous grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.
There will be a private family memorial service.
The Baker-Gagne Funeral Home and Cremation Service of West Ossipee is in charge of the arrangements.

Daniel F. Vasconcellos, 67, of Intervale, died May 6, 2001, at his home on Skyline Drive following a long illness.
Born in Fall River, Mass., the son of Armando and Maria (Faria) Vasconcellos, he was formerly of East Greenwich, R.I.
He was a graduate of Providence College and the U.S. Army Finance School. He was a captain in the U.S. Army Reserves, and before his retirement he held various senior management positions with GTE Corp., and EG&G Inc., during which he received many outstanding performance awards and patents. During his retirement, he was an adjunct business faculty member of the New Hampshire Community Technical College in Berlin; chairman of the Carroll County Area Committee on Aging; and steering committee member of the Senior Collaboration Committee of New Hampshire. He was also a member in the National Accounting Association and the Knights of Columbus.
The family includes his wife of 45 years, Gloria (Benjamin) Vasconcellos, of Intervale; two daughters, Diane M. VanAmersfoort, of Warwick, R.I., and Susan J. Guarglia, of Summersfield, N.C.; two sons, Mark D. Vasconcellos, of New York, N.Y., and Steven D. Vasconcellos, of North Conway; four grandchildren; a sister, Emily Neves, of Palm Springs, Calif.; two brothers, Gilbert Vasconcellos, of Fall River, Mass., and Armand Vasconcellos, of Charlotte, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two siblings, Tobias Vasconcellos in 1973 and Laura Nevis in 1992.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Mountains Church in North Conway. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in New Bedford, Mass., on Friday at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway.
Donations may be sent to Visiting Nurse and Hospice Care Services of Northern Carroll County, P.O. Box 432, North Conway, NH 03860, or to Our Lady of the Mountains Building Fund, P.O. Box 189, North Conway, NH 03860.

CONWAY -- John Luke Cannell, 39, of North Conway, died May 6, 2001.
Born in North Conway, he was the son of John and Elizabeth (Gillespie) Cannell and was a lifelong resident.
He was a self-employed flooring contractor.
Luke enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and, most importantly, his family.
The family includes his wife, Kelly (Rideout) Cannell, of North Conway; a son, Greyson L. Cannell, of North Conway; a daughter, Riley R. Cannell, of North Conway; his father and step-mother, John and Vicki Cannell, of Intervale; four sisters, Christie N. Livingston, of South Portland, Maine, Katharine M. Cannell, of Winchester, Mass., Mary A. Donovant, of Yorktown, Va., and Stephanie J. Mullins, of Intervale; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the First Church of Christ Congregational in North Conway, with the Rev. G. Alan Baxter, pastor, officiating. Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway.
Donations may be made to the John Fuller School, 51 Pine Street, North Conway, NH 03860.

Janice M. Barton, 66, of Glencliff died May 1, 2001, at the Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, following a long illness.
Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Galanek and Marguerite (Davis) Galanek. She was formerly from Bartlett and had worked at the Memorial Hospital in North Conway and the Carroll County Home in Ossipee. She also had worked in the Newton, Mass., Nursing Home.
Mrs. Barton had been a member of the Union Congregational Church Choir in Bartlett.
The family includes: her sister, June (Galanek) Wiggin of Conway; two half-brothers, David A. Dorsett of Nashua and Stanton Dorsett of Conroe, Texas; as well as numerous nieces and nephews including Brian, Craig and Errol Wiggin, all of Conway.
Graveside services will be held on May 12 at 11 a.m. in the Glen Cemetery with the Rev. David A. Lloyd officiating. Donations in her memory may be sent to the Union Congregational Church of Bartlett, P.O. Box 132, Bartlett NH 03812-0132.

Holly Hall, 44, of Rogue River, Ore., former resident of North Conway, and wife of Lyman Hall, died Friday night, April 27, 2001, when the motorcycle she was riding was struck by an SUV.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 8, 2001 at Hull and Hull Chapel in Grants Pass, Ore. Memorial services will follow.
Contributions may be made to the Holly Hall Memorial Fund at any branch of Bank of America.
Petite, articulate and energetic, Holly attracted people with her outgoing, infectious enthusiasm. She was a loving and loyal wife, mother and friend. She had a vibrant personality and was always up-front and direct, speaking from her feelings with wisdom, clear thinking and optimism. She was honest, smart, vivid and real. She had goals for herself and her family, and worked toward them, planning and saving, to make them happen.
A woman of many talents, she made leather clothing and accessories, worked in stained glass, made beautiful lampshades, and decorated her home with an artful touch. She and her husband, Lyman Hall, built an Espresso Coffee Wagon, which they took to many events in the area, establishing a thriving business and reputation.
She and her family lived in Southern Oregon for the past 10 years where Holly worked in the home health field, and drove a school bus, made bread at an organic farm bakery and worked for Trees Inc. At the time of her death, she was attending college working toward a degree in alcoholic counseling. It was a career choice which filled her talents and experiences, as was made evident by the praise and appreciation she received at the Crisis Resolution Center whose team she had just joined.
Survivors include her husband, Lyman Hall; a son, Casey Fletcher; a daughter, Sara Fletcher; a stepson, John Hall; her parents, Harold and Irene Olmstead; two sisters, Irene and Karen; and three brothers, Harold, Richard and Gary.
Hull and Hull Funeral Directors, of Grants Pass, Ore., is in charge of arrangements.

James E. Buckley, age 77, of Madison, died Thursday at the Maine Medical Center, Portland.
He was the husband of Jennie G. (Earl) Buckley.
He was born July 30, 1923, in Lynn, Mass., son of the late James E. and Janet (Edgar) Buckley.
He had been a resident of Madison for 17 years, prior to which he lived in West Newbury for 20 years.
Mr. Buckley was a graduate of both Lynn English and Lynn Trade schools, class of 1941. After graduating he worked for six months at General Electric Riverworks in Lynn and then joined the Army in December of 1942. He served with the Military Police Platoon with action in both the Rhineland and Central Europe. He was the recipient of both the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart and was discharged after 35 months service.
Upon returning from the war he was employed with General Electric Riverworks Aircraft Engineering Group, where he worked for 45 years, retiring in 1987 as production control clerk.
He was a member and former commander of the American Legion Carr Post 240 of West Newbury and was a former member of the West Newbury Congregational Church.
As a youth Mr. Buckley became an Eagle Scout in Lynn and a member of the Order of the Arrow. He later was active as a Scout leader in West Newbury.
Mr. Buckley was a member of Saggahew Lodge AF&AM, Pentucket Chapter RAM, Haverhill Council R&SM, Haverhill Commandery KT 14, all of Haverhill, and Aleppo Temple Shrine of Wilmington.
For several years, while living in Madison, he was active in the community delivering Meals on Wheels two days a week.
In addition to his wife of 58 years, he is survived by three sons, James E. Buckley and his wife Donna of Wolfeboro, Kevin E. Buckley of Conway, and Randall D. Buckley and his wife Mary of Bradford; a daughter, Marcia L. Bergeron and her husband Thomas of West Newbury; 10 grandchildren, Tracy Grant of Merrimac, Paula Chamberlain of Wolfeboro, Brett and Kurt Bergeron of West Newbury, Jolene, Patrick Buckley of West Newbury, and Shannon Buckley of Conway, Joshua, Nicholas, and Sarah Buckley of Bradford; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held last Tuesday at H.L. Farmer and Sons Funeral Home in Haverhill.
Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Cemetery in Peabody, Mass., at a later date. A memorial service will be held at a date to be announced.

Mark W. DeBrosky, 21, of Lewiston, Maine died May 4, 2001 at the Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, Maine following a motorcycle accident. Born in Newburyport, Mass., he had lived in East Kingston for two years, in Wiscasset, Maine for seven years, in Friendship, Maine for five years, and in Row, Mass. for four years, before moving to Lewiston in 1999.
Mark graduated from he Mohawk Regional High School in Buckland, Mass. in 1997 and he has worked for the Lepage Bakery in Auburn, Maine for the past two years.
The family includes: his mother, Barbara A. Pelletier and step-father, Wayne Pelletier of Center Conway; his father, Michael J. DeBrosky of West Sumner, Maine; two brothers, Joseph M. DeBrosky of Rockland, Maine and Kevin M. Pelletier stationed in Japan; his maternal grandparent, Manley Jones of Plaistow; a half-brother, Michael DeBrosky of Livermore, Maine; two half-sisters, Elizabeth DeBrosky and Marjorie DeBrosky, both of Livermore, Maine; a step-brother, Thomas Parziale of New Durham; a step-sister, Kristy Parziale of Weymouth, Mass., and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 12, 2001 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Christ in Conway with Pastor Douglas Dingley, officiating. There will be no visiting hours. The Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway is in charge of arrangements.
