Beverly J. Aversano

HAMPTON - Beverly J. Aversano, 56, of 2 Hurd Road, died Saturday, April 19, 2003, at her home.

She was born July 18, 1946, in Boston, the daughter of the late James and Lillian (Abbott) Alker. She had resided in Hampton since 1984 coming from Warren, Mich.

Mrs. Aversano was a licensed nurse’s aide for Seacoast Visiting Nurse Association, North Hampton, for the past 12 years and with her husband and family, operated The Airfield Cafe at the Hampton Airfield for 7 1/2 years. She had previously been employed at Exeter Healthcare.

She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church where she served as a religious education instructor, and with her family helped out at the soup kitchen at Hampton Beach. While living in Warren, she was active at St. Clement Parish in Center Line, Mich., serving as the religious education coordinator and instructor and was involved in marriage and pre-marriage encounters.

She enjoyed holidays and spending time with her family and was an avid bingo player.

She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Joseph P. Aversano; three sons and their wives, Joseph P. Jr. and Sherry Aversano of Exeter, John M. and Sandy Aversano of Imlay City, Mich., and Scott J. and Kristie Aversano of Hampton; two daughters, Stacey M. Aversano of Stratham and Theresa R. Aversano of Hampton; six grandchildren; two brothers, James Alker of Hampton and Arthur Alker of Hanover, Mass.; one sister, Carol Sieracki of St. Helen, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton. Burial will be in High Street Cemetery, Hampton.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2680, No. Canton, OH 44720.

John W. Chase Jr.

CONWAY - John W. Chase Jr., 67, of Lamplighter Park, died Friday, April 18, 2003, in Maine Medical Center, Portland, Maine,

He was born April 10, 1936, in Seabrook, the son of the late John W. and Ruth (Lattime) Chase and had resided in Conway since 1997, coming from Salisbury, Mass.

Mr. Chase was a heavy equipment operator for Hampton for 43 years.

He was active with the Boy Scouts of America in Salisbury and enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Smith) Chase of Conway; two sons, John W. Chase III of New Hampshire and Daniel R. Chase of North Conway; one daughter, Amelia Chase of North Conway; two grandchildren; and one brother, Charles Chase of Seabrook.

There are no services planned.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Arrangements are by the Baker-Gagne Funeral Home and Cremation Service of West Ossipee.

Barbara E. Cochrane

INTERVALE - Barbara E. (Broderick) Haseltine Cochrane, 76, died Friday, April 18, 2003, at her daughter’s home in Hampton.

She was born Aug. 22, 1926, in Haverhill, Mass., the daughter of the late Thomas H. and Bernice C. (Flynn) Broderick. She resided in Durham from 1980 until 1993 when she moved to Intervale.

She was a graduate of Haverhill High School and of the former Bradford Junior College, Bradford, Mass., and of Boston University.

Mrs. Cochrane was a special education teacher in Haverhill public schools for many years. She also served as a Y Teen director at the Lawrence, Mass., YWCA and served as the executive director of the Haverhill Girls Club.

She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Mountains Church in North Conway and was a former member of the Massachusetts State Teachers Association.

The widow of Alexander Cochrane, she is survived by one daughter and her husband, June and Chris Casey of Hampton; two grandchildren; one sister, June Spurk of Haverhill; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 26, at 9 a.m. in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton, followed at 11 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton. Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Haverhill.

Flowers are acceptable.

Marie S. Curtin

HAMPTON - Marie S. Curtin, 79, died Friday, April 18, 2003, at the Haven Health Center, Hampton.

She was born Feb. 6, 1924, in Hazelton, Pa., the daughter of the late George M. and Leone (Parnham) McLeod. She was raised in Lynn, Mass., and had resided in Keystone Heights, Fla., for 15 years coming to Hampton in 2000.

She was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School.

Mrs. Curtin was an assembler at CBS Hytron in Newburyport, Mass., and had previously worked as a licensed practical nurse at Lynn Hospital in the 1960s.

She is survived by two daughters, Donna L. Noftle of Hampton and Diane L. Mathews of Georgetown, Fla.; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Virginia L. Mari of Derry; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by one brother, George "Sonny" McLeod, and one sister, Lois Meredith.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Arrangements were by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton.

John D. Goethel

HAMPTON - John D. Goethel, 79, of the Partridge House, died Wednesday, April 16, 2003, in Exeter Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born Dec. 30, 1923, in Duluth, Minn., the son of the late Karl J. and Marguerite (McKittrick) Goethel. He was raised in Newton, Mass., and had resided in Needham, Mass.

He was a 1942 graduate of Newton High School, and a graduate of Boston University Business and Law school. He was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar in 1951 and the New Hampshire Bar in 1977.

He was a veteran of World War II serving as a bombardier flying B17s with the 8th Air Force in the 100th Bomb Group. He survived being shot down with a dramatic rescue in the North Sea.

Mr. Goethel was a lawyer for the John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Co. in Boston, retiring in 1986.

He spent his retirement fishing on his son’s commercial fishing boat, the Ellen Diane and recreational fishing for striped bass on the piers in Hampton and Seabrook.

He served on many boards and committees in the towns in which he lived and was an avid advocate of commercial and recreational fishermen’s rights to fish.

He is survived by two sons and their wives, David T. and Ellen Goethel of Hampton and Frederick S. and Connie Goethel of Lafayette, Ind.; three grandchildren; and one brother, T. Peter Goethel of Vista, Calif.

He was predeceased by one brother, Karl Goethel, who was killed in World War II, and one sister, Yvonne Ciesluk.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 17, at 2 p.m. in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Northeast Seafood Coalition, P.O. Box 155, Essex, MA 01929.

Irene Griffin

BRENTWOOD - Irene Griffin, 76, died April 7, 2003, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home, Brentwood, after a lengthy illness.

She was born Oct. 24, 1926, in Berlin, the daughter of Edward and Antoinette (Gregoire) L’Heureux. She was raised in Lancaster and resided there until the early 1970s when she moved to Manchester. She had resided at Peabody Place in Derry.

Mrs. Griffin worked at Cabletron for many years until her retirement. She had previously been employed by the Kent Nursing Home, now Holton Point in Lancaster.

She was a communicant of St. Joseph Church, Manchester, and was active in many church organizations. She was an avid bingo player.

She is survived by one son, Clifford Griffin of Raymond; two daughters, Joanne Picard of Clearwater, Fla., and Elaine Griffin of Colebrook; 11 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; one brother, Norman L’Heureux of Greenville; and one sister, Lorraine Hodgdon of Lebanon.

Graveside services will be held May 17 at noon in Calvary Cemetery, Lancaster, with the Rev. Raymond Ball, pastor of All Saints Church, Lancaster, officiating.

Arrangements are by the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster.

Dwight L. Killam Jr.

KINGSTON - Dwight L. Killam Jr., 73, died Saturday, April 19, 2003, at Hannah Duston Nursing Home, Haverhill, Mass., after a lengthy illness.

He was born Sept. 13, 1929, in Salem, Mass., the son of Dwight L. and Dorothy D. (Perley) Killam Sr. He was raised in Boxford, Mass., and had resided in Kingston for most of his life.

He was a graduate of Sanborn Seminary, Kingston, and was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving from 1951 until 1954 and served with the Reserves from 1955 until 1959, retiring as a staff sergeant.

Mr. Killam was director of computer services at Northern Essex Community College, Haverhill.

He was an active member of the Kingston Lions Club for 42 years and held every major club office in including four terms as president. He was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award in 1993.

He served as a Kingston selectman and volunteer fireman for many years and was instrumental in forming the fire department rescue league. He was active in the Kingston Santa Claus Christmas Parade for many years. He was involved with sled dog racing and established a race in Kingston which benefited the Lions Club. He was a former president of the Kingston PTA .

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Patricia A. (Patten) Killam of Kingston; one daughter, Cynthia M. Killam-Burke of Kingston; one son, Harold D. Killam of Kingston; and four grandchildren.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced at a later date by the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Exeter Lions Club, P.O. Box 254, Exeter, NH 03833.

Robert D. Lefebvre

HAMPTON - Robert D. Lefebvre, 70, died April 19, 2003, in Exeter Hospital.

He was born March 12, 1933, in Lowell, Mass., the son of the late Frederick E. and Mildred (Brandt) Lefebvre. He had resided in Westford, Mass., before coming to Hampton in 1992.

He was a 1950 graduate of Lowell High School.

Mr. Lefebvre was part owner and general manager of the family business, The Lowell Covered Rubber Thread Co., retiring in 1990.

He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton, and St. Catherine’s Church in Westford.

He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Golf Country Club, Lowell, for more than 50 years and was an avid golfer throughout New England participating in many tournaments.

He enjoyed bowling with St. Margaret’s Bowling League, the Lowell Businessman’s Bowling League and Mt. Pleasant Bowling League. He played softball in the Lowell Men’s Softball League where he played in the State Softball tournaments in 1953.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marilyn (Horgan) Lefebvre of Hampton; two daughters, Marianne Chaisson of Hampton and Kathleen Noran and her husband John of Westford; three sons and their wives, Richard W. and Janet Lefebvre, and Robert M. Lefebvre, all of Lowell, and John K. and Kim Lefebvre of Chelmsford, Mass.; 11 grandchildren; one brother, Frederick Lefebvre of Westford; a sister-in-law, Elaine Scruton of Ayer, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Dolan Funeral Home, 106 Middlesex St., Chelsmford.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. in the funeral home, followed at 10 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Catherine Church, Westford. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, East Chelmsford, Mass.

Cynthia Phinney

HAMPTON - Cynthia "Cindy" Phinney, 52, died Saturday, April 19, 2003, at Haven Health Center, Hampton, following a lengthy battle with cancer.

She was born Aug. 5, 1950, in Waterville, Maine, the daughter of the late Edward and Barbara (Brown) Brow. She was raised in Maine and moved to New Hampshire in the early 1980s.

Mrs. Phinney was a CNA at Rockingham County Nursing Home for 17 years and had previously worked in a Skowhegan, Maine, nursing home.

She enjoyed spending quiet time at local beaches and was an Elvis and Charlie Pride fan.

She is survived by two sons, Robert "Bob" Phinney of Alexandria, Va., and Louis "Scott" Phinney of Bowie, Md.; three sisters, Audrey Stapleford of Merrimack, Judy Cleary of Fremont and Sylvia Gilbert of St. Albans, Maine; one niece and one nephew.

Memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 380 Route 101, Unit 501, Bedford, NH 03110 or to a local hospice association.

Arrangements are by the Cremation Society of New Hampshire.
