Vera L. Randall

SEABROOK - Vera L. Randall, 75, of South Main Street, died Monday, April 21, 2003, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home, Brentwood.

She was born Oct. 31, 1927, in Seabrook, the daughter of the late Chester and Sally "Gustie" (Sargent) Randall, and was a lifelong resident of Seabrook.

She was a graduate of Amesbury (Mass.) High School.

Miss Randall worked at area shoe shops including Welpro, Ruth and Stride Rite Shoe companies.

She was a member of Four Corners Advent Christian Church and attended Rand Memorial Church for the past 10 years.

She is survived by two sisters, Susie Eaton of Seabrook and Dorothy Janvrin of Amesbury; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in Rand Memorial Church, South Main Street, Seabrook. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Seabrook.

Alfred N. Dow

SEABROOK - Alfred N. Dow, 86, formerly of Whittier Drive, died Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at Exeter Healthcare.

He was born June 8, 1916, in Seabrook, the son of the late Harry and Bertha (Caswell) Dow.

He attended Seabrook schools and Amesbury (Mass.) High School.

Mr. Dow began his career with the Hampton Fire Department as a call man in 1964, becoming a permanent firefighter in 1965. He became a lieutenant in 1970, retiring in 1978. He had previously been a bedlaster in area shoe shops for many years.

Following his retirement he continued as a commercial lobster fisherman and a manufacturer of lobster traps. Even after giving up his lobster boat he continued to build traps until the age of 80.

The widower of Evelyn (Dobson) Dow, his wife of 51 years who died in 1987, he is survived by one son and his wife, Alfred N. Jr. and Barbara Dow of Hampstead; one daughter and her husband, Winnie and Ed Chouinard of Seabrook, with whom he made his home for 12 years; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Lola Cronin and Caroline Dow.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Seabrook.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Rockingham VNA and Hospice, 137 Epping Road, Exeter, NH 03833.

Muriel S. Littlefield

CONCORD - Muriel S. Littlefield, 95, died Friday, April 11, 2003, at Havenwood Nursing Home, Concord.

She was born in Brentwood, the daughter of John F. and E. Christine (Currier) Swazey.

She was a 1928 graduate of the University of New Hampshire where she was a member of the Folk Club and of the honorary societies of Phi Kappa Phi, Lambda Phi and Delta Chi.

Mrs. Littlefield was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

She enjoyed crafts, sewing, walking and gardening.

The widow of Ralph L. Littlefield, who died in 1978, she is survived by two daughters, Nancy L. Penniman of Hampton and Donna L. Nelson of Shingle Springs, Calif.; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Joseph Swazey of Brentwood, Robert Swazey of Exeter and John Swazey Jr. of Newton Junction; two sisters, Rachel Rosencrantz of Exeter and Lucille Haynes of Concord.

She was predeceased by three sisters, Dorothy Gifford, Florence Flower and Helena Moreland.

Graveside services will be held in Brentwood Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to the Havenwood-Heritage Heights Endowment Fund, 33 Christian Ave., Concord, NH 03301.

Arrangements are by the Bennett Funeral Home, Concord.

William J. McGrail Jr.

HAMPTON - William J. McGrail Jr., 76, died Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at Pine Rock Manor, Warner.

He was born March 28, 1927, in Brighton, Mass., the son of the late William J. and Elizabeth (Martin) McGrail, and had resided in Hampton Falls and Hampton.

He was a graduate of Tufts University with a degree in electrical engineering.

He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II serving in China.

Mr. McGrail was president of New England Technical Sales in Burlington, Mass., which he founded in 1965 and retired from in 1990.

He was an avid sailor, enjoyed history, jazz and classic movies. He was proud of his family and his Irish heritage.

He is survived by six sons and their wives, William and Joyce McGrail of North Hampton, Timothy and Becky McGrail of Hampton, Daniel and Melanie McGrail of Stratham, Michael and Mary McGrail of Newfields, Matthew and Sue McGrail of Hampton and James McGrail of Hampton; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Cynthia and Kurt Kammer of Denmark, Kathleen and Jay Halloran of Hampton, Tracey McGrail of Exeter and Laura McGrail of Hampton Falls; their mother, Lorraine (Pierce) McGrail of Hampton; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Robert McGrail of France, Thomas McGrail of Ridgefield, Conn., and Phillip McGrail of Melrose, Mass.; two sisters, Elizabeth Cressinger of Newburyport, Mass., and Dorothy Haggerty of Toms River, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton. Burial will be in High Street Cemetery, Hampton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 10 Ferry St., Suite 419, Concord, NH 03301-4059.

Gerald J. Newnan

KINGSTON - Gerald J. Newnan, 85, of Main Street, died Saturday, April 12, 2003, at SunBridge Nursing Home, Exeter.

He was born Jan. 22, 1918, in Chelsea, Mass., the son of the late Sam and Catherine (McQuillan) Noonan. He resided in Connecticut for many years and moved to Kingston eight years ago.

He was a 1938 graduate of Chelsea High School.

Mr. Newnan owned and operated an art studio in Connecticut.

The widower of Pearl Newnan, he is survived by two daughters, Judy May Sheehan of Revere, Mass., and Geraldeen Ryan of Saugus, Mass.; four grandchildren; one nephew, Dan Linehan of Danville; and a close friend, Florence Sawyer of Atkinson.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Memorial Giving Program, Gail Singer Memorial Building, 360 Route 101, Suite 501, Bedford, NH 03110-5032.

Arrangements were by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Raymond.

Adeline G. Richards

RAYMOND - Adeline G. Richards, 80, of Sesame Street, died Wednesday, April 16, 2003, in Exeter Hospital.

She was born March 19, 1923, in Salem, Mass., the daughter of the late Frank L. and Margaret (Martin) Peters. She resided in Beverly, Mass., for many years and moved to Raymond eight years ago.

Mrs. Richards was a communicant of St. Joseph Church, Epping, and was a member of the Ray-Fre Senior Citizens in Raymond.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Ernest A. Richards Sr. of Raymond; one daughter, Kathleen M. Phipps of Wilbraham, Mass.; one son, Ernest A. "Bud" Richards Jr. of Raymond; three grandsons; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Clarke F. Peters of Beverly; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by four brothers, Frank Peters, Edmund Peters, Roy Peters and Joseph O’Brien.

Calling hours will be held Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, On the Common, Raymond.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 1 p.m. in St. Joseph Church, Route 27, Epping. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Raymond.

Flowers are acceptable or memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Benjamin A. Waleryszak

EXETER - Benjamin Anthony Waleryszak, 84, of Spruce Street, died Tuesday, April 15, 2003, in Beth Israel Hospital, Boston.

He was born Oct. 25, 1918, in Exeter, the son of the late Anthony and Katie (Nowak) Waleryszak and was a lifelong resident of Exeter.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific and the American Area Philippine Liberation and was the recipient of the World War II Victory medal.

Mr. Waleryszak was a machinist at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, retiring after 26 years of service.

He was a communicant of St. Michael Church, Exeter.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting and sports and was an avid University of New Hampshire Wildcats hockey fan.

He is survived by one son and his wife, John and Mary Waleryszak of Exeter; two daughters, Lynn Akerman of Hampton and Diane M. Martin of Concord; seven grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Victoria Gallant of California, Eleanor Vanesse and Willamena Bruce, both of Exeter; and many nieces and nephews.

There are no calling hours.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Michael Church, Exeter. Military burial will follow in Exeter Cemetery.

Arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter.

Walter A. Prisby

IPSWICH, Mass. - Walter A. Prisby, 71, died Sunday, April 13, 2003, in Beth Israel-Deaconness Medical Center, Boston, after a sudden illness.

He was born Jan. 19, 1932, in Ipswich, the son of the late Walter E. and Kamilja A. (Szarycz) Prisby.

He was a graduate of Ipswich High School and was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War. He was discharged as a chief petty officer corpsman.

Mr. Prisby was employed for Mrs. Crane and later for the Trustees of Reservations at the Crane Estate for 30 years. He was the refuge manager for the Crane Wildlife Refuge.

He was a communicant of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church and a former member of St. Stanislaus Church in Ipswich.

He was the scoutmaster for Boy Scout troops No. 144 and No. 98, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1093 of Ipswich.

He enjoyed fishing and model shipbuilding.

He is survived by his wife, Rita E. (Poirier) Prisby of Ipswich; five children and their spouses, Walter A. "Bud" Jr. and Elaine Prisby of Amston, Conn., Bonnie and Daniel Provost of Kensington, Pamela A. and Bob Levesque of Salem, Mass., Timothy A. and Doreen Prisby of North Andover, Mass., and Steven M. and Denise Prisby of Cape Neddick, Maine; 11 grandchildren; one sister, Alfreda Duff of Ipswich; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Wednesday in Our Lady of Hope Church, Ipswich.

Memorial donations may be made to the Ipswich Public Safety Department, c/o 25 Elm St., Ipswich, MA 01938.

Arrangements were by the Morris Funeral Home, Ipswich.
