T. Lauraine Roberge

RYE - T. Lauraine Roberge, 76, died Sunday, April 13, 2003. Private services were held Wednesday in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton, with the Rev. Maurice Lavigne, pastor of St. Theresa Church, Rye Beach, officiating.

Walter L. Anderson

AMESBURY, Mass. - Walter Leslie Anderson, 85, died Friday, April 11, 2003, at Harborside Healthcare Center.

He was born May 14, 1917, in Amesbury, the son of the late Christian A. and Ethel M. (Burrill) Anderson and attended Amesbury schools.

He was U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in Panama, CZ, Oklahoma, Fort Monmouth, N.J., and in the European Theater. He was a staff sergeant with the 9th Division of Company C, 60th Infantry. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star, the World War II Victory medal, the American Defense medal, the Good Conduct medal, the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign ribbon, the American Theater Campaign ribbon, and the Combat Infantry medal. He was a radar crewman, an expert field marksman, and an expert TSM gunner. Following his discharge he served with the U.S. Naval Reserve.

Mr. Anderson retired from the Raytheon Corp. in 1978 and was previously employed by Henschel Corp. and the Bailey Corp.

He was an active member of the American Legion; was the post commander of the Disabled American Veterans Post No. 13 of Exeter; and served as quartermaster of the Amesbury Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2016. He organized and participated in many Memorial Day and Veterans Day services and parades.

He is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Gloria Bogannam of Kingston, Leslie and Steven Chunn of New Boston and Denise and John Recupero of Amesbury; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five sisters, Eleanor Anderson of Hampstead, Bertha Wolfsen of North Hampton, Lois Giufridda of Exeter, Beatrice Brown of Seabrook, and Barbara Comeau of Haverhill; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by five brothers, Robert, Norman, Frank, Francis and Allan; and four sisters, Annie, Marjory, Ethel and Christine "Hazel" Sharkey.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Paul C. Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Ave., Amesbury.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mount Prospect Cemetery, Amesbury.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the DAV, Post 13, Exeter, NH 03833.

Fred M. Currier

KITTERY, Maine - Fred M. Currier, 86, died Sunday, April 6, 2003, in Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

He was born Sept. 24, 1916, in Portsmouth, the son of the late Wilfred and Annie (Locke) Currier.

He was educated in Rye schools and was a 1934 graduate of Portsmouth High School.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving as a combat engineer.

Mr. Currier retired from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in 1979 after 18 years of service. He was formerly employed by Ricci Construction, Brown Construction and had also worked for Harry Carter in North Hampton.

He attended St. John’s Episcopal Church in Portsmouth. He was a 40-year member and past Master of St. John’s Lodge No. 1 F&AM of Portsmouth; a member and Past High Priest of Washington Chapter No. 3; member and Past Thrice Illustrious Master of Davenport Council No. 5; member of DeWitt Clinton Commandery of Portsmouth and of Bektash Shrine of Concord.

He is survived by his wife, Annie L. (Waldron) Currier of Kittery; five children, Lucille Drown of Mesquite, Nev., Priscilla Osgood of Waterboro, Maine, Patricia Lavin of Virginia Beach, Va., William Currier of Somersworth, and Robert Currier of Portsmouth; one stepdaughter, Ellen Jackson of Halls, Tenn.; one stepson, Edward Goodwin of Kittery; 20 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two nephews and one niece; and several cousins.

He was predeceased by his first wife Edith (Ryan) Currier; one son, John Currier; one brother, Edward Currier; and one sister, Edna Borkhardt.

Funeral services were held April 10 in the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, Portsmouth.

Daniel J. Donovan

DARIEN, Conn. - Daniel J. Donovan, 81, died Wednesday, March 26, 2003, in Norwalk Hospital, Norwalk, Conn.

He was born Aug. 2, 1921, in Lowell, Mass., the son of the late Frank and Gertrude (Teague) Donovan,

He attended Lowell schools and was a 1939 graduate of Keith Academy, Lowell, and did a year of post-graduate studies at Lowell High School. He received his bachelor of arts degree from Dartmouth College in 1944 and was a graduate of the Amos Tuck Graduate School of Business at Dartmouth in 1947.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a patrol bomber pilot.

Mr. Donovan was an U.S. Treasury Bond Trader for First Boston Corp. in New York City, where he worked for more than 27 years retiring in 1984.

While living in Lowell he was a communicant of St. Rita Church.

He is survived by two daughters, Paula Sherwood and her husband Ross of Pittsford, N.Y., and Mary Ellen Donovan of New York City; one son and his wife, Patrick and Jennifer Donovan of New Canaan, Conn.; seven grandchildren; and one cousin.

He was predeceasede by his first wife, Arline (Brasil) Donovan, who died in 1981, and his second wife, Catherine (Dunfey) Donovan, who died in 1994; one son, Michael Donovan, and two daughters, Elizabeth Donovan and Margaret Donovan.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday in St. Rita Church, Lowell. Burial was in St. Patrick Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 220 North Main St., Suite 104, Natick, MA 01760.

Arrangements were by the O’Donnell Funeral Home, Lowell.

John F. Corcoran

HAMPTON - John Francis "Jack" Corcoran, 64, died Thursday, April 10, 2003, at his home.

He was born Sept. 7, 1938, in Arlington, Mass., the son of the late Francis and Margaret (Magee) Corcoran. He was raised in Cambridge, Mass.

He attended Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School where he excelled as a scholar and track athlete. He was a 1961 graduate of Northeastern University, Boston, where he received his bachelor of science degree in business administration.

He served with the U.S. Army Reserves in 1961 stationed at Fort Benjamin, Harrison, Ind.

Mr. Corcoran was a sales representative for Schering-Plough, retiring in 1995 with 30 years of service.

He was an avid recreational athlete, running road races and playing tennis and golf. He was an avid fan of the Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics and Patriots, attending many of their games. He was a fan of the Boston College Eagles football team, holding season tickets and following the Eagles on the road.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, reading and history and was known for his skill in trivia contests.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Charlotte (Coughlin) Corcoran; four daughters and their husbands, Helen and Christopher Dugan of Hooksett, Jacqueline and Alistair Sawers of London, England, Kathleen and David Gaudet of Georgetown, Mass., and Kristin and Brian Sirois of Newton; one son and his wife, Charles and Deborah Corcoran of Hampton; nine grandchildren; one sister, Eleanor Maninos of Malden, Mass.; and three nieces.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Monday in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton. Burial was in High Street Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833.

Arrangements were by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton.

Thomas G. Klemarczyk

EXETER - Thomas G. Klemarczyk, 41, of Hobart Street, died Thursday, April 10, 2003, in Portsmouth Regional Hospital, after a sudden illness.

He was born April 19, 1961, in Exeter, the son of Thaddeus "Ted" Klemarczyk of Exeter, and the late Fannie (Wojcicki) Klemarczyk, and had resided in Exeter for most of his life.

He attended the Ritchie McFarland Center, the Rockingham School and Lincoln Street School.

His interests included polka music and festivals, family gatherings, Special Olympics, classic TV shows, traveling and bird watching.

Mr. Klemarczyk worked and enjoyed many activities at Twin Rivers Association, Exeter.

He was a communicant of St. Michael Church, Exeter.

In addition to his father, he is survived by four brothers, Philip Klemarczyk of Canton, Conn., Roland Klemarczyk of Contoocook, James Klemarczyk of Dover and Stephen Klemarczyk of Haverhill, Mass.; three sister, Janice Bastille of North Hampton, JoAn Saxe of Portsmouth and Catherine Gleason of Exeter; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday in St. Michael Church. Burial was in Exeter Cemetery, Exeter.

Memorial donations may be made to Twin Rivers Association, 137 Epping Road, Exeter, NH 03833. Arrangements were by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter.

Theresa M. Roy

NEWMARKET - Theresa M. Roy, 82, of Bay Road, died Saturday, April 12, 2003, at her daughter’s home in Newmarket.

She was born Oct. 27, 1920, in Lewiston, Maine, the daughter of Louie and Alvine (Willett) Foisy, and had resided in Newmarket since 1960.

Mrs. Roy and her late husband owned and operated Sandy Carl Bakery until 1983.

She was a member of St. Mary Church and the Catholic Daughters of America.

She was a seamstress and enjoyed playing golf with the Exeter Golf League.

The widow of Lorenzo Roy, who died in 1982, she is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Sandra and Timothy McKone of Pasadena, Md., and Carleen and Joseph Kruczek of Newmarket; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; two sisters, Carmen Dostie of Auburn, Maine, and Ethel Labbe of Norway, Maine; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by one sister, Jeannette Bishop.

A funeral prayer service will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St., Newmarket. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Newmarket.

Carroll B. Ronco

BAR MILLS, Maine - Carroll B. Ronco, 88, died March 31, 2003, in Exeter. He was born in North New Portland, Maine, the son of Carl A. and Merle (Moulton) Ronco.

He attended local schools and was a 1938 graduate of Gorham State Teacher’s College, He received his master’s degree in education from the University of Maine in 1955. He completed courses at the University of Connecticut and at Columbia University.

His 35 years in education included classroom teaching in Alfred and Seal Harbor, Maine, and in Unionville, Conn. Mr. Ronco was principal of Mount Desert High School in Somesville, Maine, in 1942 - 1943 He was principal of Pemetic High School in Southwest Harbor, Maine, from 1943-1948. He then became superintendent of schools for School Union No. 103, in Lubec, Maine, then being the youngest superintendent in the state. In 1954 he became superintendent of School Union No. 9 in Cornish, Maine. He became superintendent of the newly formed SAD No. 6, Buxton, Maine, where he oversaw the organization of the new district, and the development of the original Bonny Eagle High School, which opened in September, 1961.

In 1966, he became superintendant of SAD No.57 in Waterboro, Maine, where he again managed the development of the district, and of Massabesic High School. Upon his retirement from education in 1972, the football field at Massabesic was named Ronco Field in his honor.

He was a member of the American Association of School Administrators; the National Education Association; the Maine School Superintendents Association; and the Maine Teachers Association. From 1955 through 1961 he was consecutively secretary-treasurer, vice president and president of the Maine School Superintendents Association. He had previously served as president of the Washington County Teachers Association, and of the York County Teachers Association.

He was a member of Mt. Desert Lodge 140 F&AM.; the Lubec Grange; the Lubec Chamber of Commerce; was president of the Men’s Fellowship of the Christian Congregation Church, Lubec; and was a member of the Kezar Falls Kiwanis Club.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating, and nurtured a large garden. As a fisherman he tied his own flies and streamers.

He is survived by two sons, Carl L. Ronco and Glen W. Ronco, both of New Hampshire, where he resided for the last several years; five grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in the Dennett - Craig & Pate Funeral Home, Buxton, Maine. Spring burial will be in South Buxton Cemetery.

Frances H. Savage

EXETER - Frances H. (Hannigan) Savage, 92, died Friday, April 11, 2003, at the Epoch Nursing Home, Melrose, Mass.

She was born Oct. 30, 1910, in Exeter, the daughter of Patrick and Mary (Hughes) Hannigan and was a lifelong resident of Exeter.

She was a 1928 graduate of Robinson Female Seminary and a 1932 graduate of the University of New Hampshire.

Mrs. Savage taught at the Newton Junction Village School from 1969 until her retirement in 1976. She began her teaching career in 1959 teaching first grade at St. Michael’s School in Exeter. She was previously employed by the Exeter Handkerfchief Factory and worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard during World War II.

The widow of James H. Savage, she is survived by one son, Thomas P. Savage of Melrose; one daughter-in-law, Jacqueline D. Savage of Melrose; one granddaughter; and one sister, Margaret O’Connor of Virginia.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Mary McNulty and Catherine Cavanaugh.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, April 21, at 10 a.m. in St. Michael Church, Front Street, Exeter. Burial will follow in Exeter Cemetery.

Arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter.

Alice M. Hickey

PLAISTOW - Alice M. (Penno) Hickey, 71, of Plaistow, died Sunday, April 6, 2003, at her residence following a long illness.

She was born in Malden, Mass., and raised in Reading, Mass. Mrs. Hickey graduated Reading Memorial High School.

A 43-year resident of Plaistow, she formerly lived in Wakefield, Mass. for several years. She worked for many years as a waitress at the former Sawyer’s Restaurant and Sawyer’s Banquet Facility in Plaistow and also as a secretary at Barron’s T.V. and the Village Coin Shop. She last worked as a bookkeeper at Marshall’s Department Store.

Mrs. Hickey is survived by her husband of 51 years, Thomas F. Hickey; two sons, Michael T. Hickey and his wife Monique of Medford, Mass., and Kevin J. Hickey and his wife Susan of York, Maine; a daughter, Denise A. Huber and her husband Paul; two brothers, Robert Penno of Epping and Richard Penno of Plymouth, Mass.; a sister, Barbara Duggan of Belmont, Mass.; eight grandchildren; one uncle; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Arrangements are by the Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, Plaistow.
