Eva M. Leblanc

DURHAM - Eva M. Leblanc, 87, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at the Canterbury Center Nursing Home in Shepherdstown, W. Va.

She was born Sept. 13, 1915, in Durham, the daughter of the late Napoleon and Delmina (Dionne) Yell. She resided on Wadleigh Falls Road, Newmarket, for 30 years, and at Bagdad Woods in Durham for several years.

Mrs. Leblanc was employed for many years at the University of New Hampshire and the Macallen plant in Newmarket.

She attended the Church of St. Thomas More in Durham and St. Mary’s Church in Newmarket.

The widow of Edgar Leblanc who died in 1977, she is survived by a son, Robert W. Leblanc of Sharpsburg, Md.; a daughter, Rose Bourgoine and her husband Donald of San Mateo, Fla.; five grandchildren; several great- and great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday at St. Mary’s Church and burial followed in Calvary Cemetery, Newmarket.

Dorothy M. Wilcox

DURHAM - Dorothy M. Wilcox, 95, formerly of Old Landing Road, died Feb. 22, 2003, at Rochester Manor.

Friends of Mrs. Wilcox are invited to attend a Graveside Service, Wednesday, May 14 at 2 p.m. at the family lot in the Durham Cemetery. Rev. Mary Westfall will officiate.

Robert J. Weit

NEWMARKET - Robert J. Weit, 78, of South Main Street, died Sunday, April 6, 2003, at Exeter Healthcare.

He was born Aug. 5, 1924, in Rochester, N.Y., the son of the late Leo and Clara (Daley) Weit.

Mr. Weit served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was employed for 32 years at Simplex Wire and Cable in Newington, retiring as a foreman in 1985.

Mr. Weit is survived by a son, Michael Weit and his wife, Debra Hale, of Newmarket; two daughters, Colleen Bertagnolli and her husband Paul of Newmarket, and Robin Pullo and her husband Chris of Henniker; one brother, Edward Weit of Rochester, N.Y.; two sisters, Madeline Weit of Rochester, N.Y. and Agnes Woodard of Plano, Texas; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Virginia (Sopel) Weit who died in 2001 and a brother, Arthur Weit who died in 2001.

Private funeral and graveside services will be held for the immediate family only. After cremation, burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Newmarket.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Exeter Healthcare, 4 Alumni Drive, Exeter, NH 03833.

Martha J. Stanley

SALISBURY, Mass. - Martha J. Stanley, 67, of 23 Beach Road, Salisbury, Mass., died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at the Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport, Mass.

She was born Jan. 10, 1936, in Taunton, Mass., and spent most of her life in New England.

Mrs. Stanley was a former member of the Eastern Star and enjoyed reading the scriptures, crocheting, gardening and cooking.

Mrs. Stanley is survived by her husband of 48 years, Noah Richard Stanley; two daughters, Betsy E. Hinds and her husband Allen of New Paltz, N.Y., and Jessie J. Smith and her husband Joshua of New Paltz; one son, Jeb W. Stanley of Seattle, Wash.; a brother, George Mason of Salisbury, Mass.; and seven grandchildren.

Burial will be in the Walkill Valley Cemetery, Walden, N.Y.

George W. Ellison

BARRINGTON - George W. Ellison, 87, of Ambleside Park, died Monday, April 7, 2003, at his home in Barrington.

He was born July 3, 1915, in Barrington, the son of the late Walter and Alta (Glover) Ellison. He was a lifelong resident of Barrington.

Mr. Ellison worked in the area lumber mills as a roller for many years, and had worked for Woody Sherburne, George Green, Johnson Lumber, and Valentine Mathes.

Mr. Ellison is survived by a son, William Ellison of Nottingham; two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Shirley) Libby of Rochester, and Mrs. Beverly Ann Lee of Barrington; and 15 grandchildren.

He was predeceased by two sons, George E. Ellison and Gordon Ellison who died in 2002; two brothers, Chester Ellison and Charles Ellison; and two sisters, Thelma Dionne and Elizabeth Hartford.

Funeral services were held Thursday and Pastor Gail Kindberg of the Lee Church Congregational officiated. Burial followed in Lee Hill Cemetery.

Arrangements are by the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, Newmarket.

Martha Ahboltin

EXETER - Martha Ahboltin, 46, of Water Street, died suddenly Monday, April 7, 2003, at her home.

She was born April 27, 1956, in Tucson, Ariz., the daughter of Jim and Penny (Hall) Dumke of Madison.

In 1974 she graduated from San Pedro High School and attended The College of the Redwoods in Eureka, Calif. She was a longtime resident of Eureka until moving to Exeter in 1996.

Mrs. Ahboltin is survived by her son, Mathew Huber of Garberville, Calif.; a daughter, Laurel Jewell and her husband Damon of Boise, Idaho; her parents; three brothers, James Dumke of Eureka, Ralph Dumke of Stratham, and Peter Dumke of Danvers, Mass; one sister, Caroline Klassen of Whidbey Island, Wash.; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter. A memorial service will follow.

In lieu of flowers, her children request that donations be made to the Exeter Public Library, 1 Founders Park, Exeter, NH 03833.

Virginia M. Clark

PORTSMOUTH - Virginia M. Clark, 80, of Portsmouth, died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at Webster at Rye.

She was born Aug. 14, 1922, in Newton Center, Mass., the daughter of the late Walter M. and Elizabeth (Crocker) Marston.

Mrs. Clark was a graduate of the Winsor School in Boston. She resided in Andover and North Andover, Mass., for more than 40 years where she was a communicant of Christ Church in Andover and a longtime member of the North Andover Country Club. Since moving to Portsmouth in 1998 she was a communicant of St. Andrews-By-The-Sea in Rye Beach.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, P. Hayden Clark; four children, Lee M. Hoehn of Burlington, Vt., Peter H. Clark Jr. of Rye Beach, Virginia M. Church of Morrisville, Vt., and David N. Clark of Newmarket; two sisters, Natalie Dunlop of Annapolis, Md. and Lee Smithers of Lenox, Mass.; seven grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Private services will be held at a later date.

Charles I. Akerman III

HOOKSETT - Charles I. Akerman III, 56, of 1465 Hooksett Road, Unit 302, died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at the Concord Hospital after a lengthy battle with cancer.

He was born Jan. 4, 1947, in Beverly, Mass., the son of M. Helen (Poole) Akerman of Hampton Falls and the late Charles I. Akerman Jr. Mr. Akerman had resided in Exeter, Stratham, and Beverly, Mass., before moving to Hooksett 15 years ago.

He was a 1965 graduate of Exeter High School and a 1986 graduate of Northeastern University. He received his MBA from New Hampshire College and was currently working on his doctorate through Nova University.

Mr. Akerman was a professor of business operations management and quantitative studies in the business division of Southern University of New Hampshire. Previously he taught at Franklin Pierce College and Daniel Webster College. He also worked 25 years for General Electric Corporation’s Riverworks Plant in Lynn, Mass. and the Hooksett plant.

He was a Vietnam veteran, serving with the U.S. Navy and was a member of American Legion Post 200 in Concord and of Hampton Falls Grange #171.

In addition to his mother, Mr. Akerman is survived by his wife, Kathleen (Smith) Akerman of Hooksett; four sons, Russell Akerman and his wife Sue of Beverly, Mass., Christopher Akerman and his wife Jill of Danvers, Mass., Charles Akerman IV of Hampton, and Lincoln Akerman and his wife Gina of Epping; two stepdaughters, Laura Rains and her husband Steve of New Mexico, and Dina Russell and her husband Tim of Concord; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Hampton Falls First Baptist Church, 3 Lincoln Ave., Hampton Falls. Burial will be in the Baptist Cemetery, Hampton Falls.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society for Cancer Research, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Phyllis A. Swanson

EXETER - Phyllis A. Swanson, 70, of Exeter died Monday, April 7, 2003, at the Exeter Healthcare Inc.

She was born March 24, 1933 in Haverhill, Mass., the daughter of the late Elliot and Anna (Rowe) Ayer.

Mrs. Swanson was raised in Haverhill and Nashua and was a graduate of Nashua High School and the University of New Hampshire, Durham with a masters degree in education. She lived in Exeter since 1960.

She was a former member of the Christ Church Episcopal of Exeter and Nashua, a member of the prayer group at Exeter Healthcare and taught Sunday School for several years. She enjoyed painting and shopping.

Mrs. Swanson is survived by her companion of many years, Carl T. Farneth of Exeter; one son, Andy Swanson of Exeter; two daughters, Rebecca L. Swanson and Pek Wan Swanson, both of Exeter; a son-in-law, Ron Meegan of Exeter; one brother, William Ayer of Nashua; two sisters, Mildred Gifford of Westford, Mass., and Lucille Dumont of Dunstable, Mass.; one granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held at the Exeter United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Exeter Cemetery.

Arrangements were by the Stockbridge Funeral Home, Exeter.

John F. Corcoran

HAMPTON - John F. Corcoran, 64, of 50 Moulton Road, died Thursday, April 10, 2003, at his home.

He was the husband of Charlotte K. (Coughlin) Corcoran.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, 289 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Burial will be in the High Street Cemetery, Hampton.

Flowers are acceptable. If desired, donations may be made to the Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833.

A complete obituary will be published in this paper’s Tuesday edition.

Dorothy B. Ost

EXETER - Dorothy B. Ost, 77, of 7 Riverwoods Drive, died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at her home.

There will be no visiting hours. Services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at the United Church of Christ, Atlantic Avenue, North Hampton.

In lieu of flowers, donations in the memory of Dorothy Birrell Ost, Class of 1947, may be made to Mount Holyoke College, 50 College St., South Hadley, MA 01035.

Arrangements are by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton.

Dorothy P. Brooks

NEWFIELDS - Dorothy P. Brooks, 97, of Exeter Road, died Thursday, April 3, 2003 at the Exeter Hospital.

She was born May 20, 1905 in Newington, the daughter of the late William and Virginia (Davis) Furber. Raised in Newington, she was a graduate of Portsmouth High School and had attended a teachers’ college for two years. She lived in Newington until 1953 when she moved to Newfields.

Mrs. Brooks was a member of the Newington Town Church and attended the Newfields Community Church. She was a member of the Reapers Sewing Circle in Newington, and The Pioneers.

She enjoyed staying home and raising her family. She loved to cook and provided many gourmet meals for her family.

Mrs. Brooks was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Wilfred E. Brooks, who died in 1990.

She is survived by her son, Phillips F. Brooks and his wife Cynthia of Wolfeboro; one daughter, Virginia Simpson and her husband Robert of Newfields; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held Monday. Burial followed in the Newington Cemetery.

Flowers are acceptable or should friends desire, memorials may be made to either the Newington Town Church, 316 Nimble Hill Road, Newington 03801 or Newfields Community Church, 71 Main St., Newfields 03856.

Arrangements are by the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, Newmarket.
