Lila M. Yerxa

EXETER - Lila Maye Yerxa, 95, of Sherwood Forest, died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at Exeter Healthcare after a lengthy illness.

She was born Jan. 13, 1908, in Canada, the daughter of the late Norman L. and Ella Mae (Yerxa) Yerxa. She had resided in Boston for many years moving to Exeter in 1973.

Miss Yerxa was a registered nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, for many years.

She was an active member of Christ Church Episcopal and was involved with the ladies’ craft group at the church.

She is survived by one cousin, Starr Morin of New Brunswick, Canada; one niece and two nephews.

Services will be announced at a later date. Burial will be in Kirk Cemetery, North Hampton, New Brunswick.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Gail Singer Memorial Bldg., 360 Route 101, Suite 501, Bedford, NH 03110.

Arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter.

Helen E. Amazeen

EAST KINGSTON - Helen E. Amazeen, 87, of 83 South Road, died Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at Exeter Healthcare, Inc.

She was born April 8, 1916, in Exeter, the daughter of the late Chester and Abbie (Currier) Thyng. She resided in Plaistow for many years, moving to East Kingston in 1946.

She was a graduate of Haverhill (Mass.) High School and Keene Normal School.

Mrs. Amazeen taught school in Kingston and Brentwood for more than 30 years.

She was a member of the East Kingston Community Church and of the Retired Teachers Association of New Hampshire.

The widow of Vernon E. Amazeen, her husband of 61 years, she is survived by two sons, Stephen E. Amazeen of Auburn and Bruce E. Amazeen of Ipswich, Mass.; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Barbara A. Parker of Topsfield, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by one sister, Eleoise E. Chaloner.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made to the East Kingston Community United Methodist Church, 34 Depot Road, East Kingston, NH 03827.

Assistance with the arrangements was by the Stockbridge Funeral Home, Exeter.

Gustave L. Comeau

SEABROOK BEACH - Gustave L. Comeau, 77, died Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at his home after a six year battle with cancer.

He was born in Haverhill, Mass., the son of Joseph E. and Monique M. (Saulnier) Comeau.

He was a graduate of St. Joseph Grammar School and a 1944 graduate of Haverhill High School.

He served with the Merchant Marines during World War II and was the recipient of the European-African-Middle Eastern service ribbon.

Mr. Comeau worked in the shoe industry for more than 50 years, retiring as foreman from Clicker City in 1995. He owned Gus’ TV and Antenna Repair in Haverhill from 1950 until 1980 and worked at his sons’ funeral homes in Clinton and Haverhill for 22 years. He worked at Bucky’s Hot Dog Stand at Seabrook Beach for the past several summers.

He was a lifelong member of All Saints Parish, Haverhill.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joan M. (Coutts) Comeau of Seabrook Beach; two sons, Stephen J. Comeau of Clinton and Kevin B. Comeau and his wife Natalie of Haverhill; one daughter and her husband, Donna M. and L. Max Rans of South Boston; four grandchildren; one brother, Edward "EJ" Comeau of Phoenix, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by one son, Thomas Comeau.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., Haverhill.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. in All Saints Church, 120 Bellevue Ave., Haverhill. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Haverhill.

Memorial donations may be made to the Marist Fathers and Brothers, 518 Pleasant St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Paul J. Laroche

NEWMARKET - Paul J. Laroche, 75, formerly of Newmarket, died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, in Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, Dover.

He was born March 19, 1928, in Durham, the son of Wilfred and Regina (Daigle) Laroche. He resided in Newmarket for many years moving to Barnstead in 1993. He had most recently resided in Somersworth.

Mr. Laroche owned and operated Twin Maples Farm in Newmarket for 35 years. He had also been employed by Market Basket in Stratham for eight years and at Ivan Fogarty Sawmill for three years.

He was a former member of St. Mary Church, Newmarket, and Lamprey Aerie No. 1934 Fraternal Order of Eagles in Newmarket.

He is survived by three brothers, Ferdinand Laroche of Bonita Springs, Fla., Raymond Laroche and Albert Laroche, both of Durham; three sisters, Cecile Arsenault and Theresa Hayes, both of Newmarket, and Rose Pouliot of Manchester; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside services will be held Monday at 6:30 p.m. in Calvary Cemetery, Newmarket, with the Rev. John Finnigan officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to Great Bay Services, 2061 Woodbury, Ave., Newington, NH 03801.

Assistance with the arrangements was by the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, Newmarket.

John J. Cardarelli

HAMPTON BEACH - John J. Cardarelli, 82, of 339 Ocean Blvd., died Sunday, June 8, 2003, in Exeter Hospital.

He was born April 5, 1921, in Lawrence, Mass., the son of the late Michael and Josephine (Salvucci) Cardarelli. He resided in Hampton from 1956 until his retirement in 1986 when he moved to Jackson. He returned to this area in 1992 living in Seabrook until returning to Hampton Beach to reside with his daughter.

He was a 1939 graduate of Haverhill (Mass.) High School and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving as a sergeant in Company B, 318th Infantry Regiment. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge and was the recipient of a Purple Heart.

Mr. Cardarelli was the owner of Greystone Hotel at Hampton Beach starting in 1959, which later became the Ocean Squire Motor Inn. He founded the former Giovanni’s Italian Restaurant at Hampton Beach in 1965, which he operated with the motel for 21 years until the business was sold in 1986.

He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church; a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 5093 of Hampton; was a founder and served as a director of Seabrook Bank and Trust Company in the 1970s.

He enjoyed traveling.

The widower of Mary A. (Festo) Cardarelli, who died in 1995, he is survived by one son and his wife, Michael P. and Gayle Cardarelli of St. Cloud, Fla.; one daughter and her husband, Ann Marie and James Clemence of Hampton Beach, with whom he made his home; three grandchildren; three brothers, Mario Cardarelli of Groveland, Mass., Vincent Cardarelli and Joseph Cardarelli, both of Haverhill, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Elizabeth Church, Route 1A, Seabrook. Burial will be in High Street Cemetery, Hampton.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Marian Gage

EXETER - Marian (Marcotte) Gage, 96, of Alumni Drive, died Sunday, June 8, 2003, at Exeter Healthcare after a period of failing health.

She was born July 25, 1906, in North Epping, the daughter of the late Conrad and Carrie (Gardner) Marcotte. She resided in Epping for more than 70 years and had lived in Exeter for 20 years.

Mrs. Gage was a stitcher at National Shoe and Leather Factory for many years.

She was a member of the Epping Woman’s Club and the Epping Garden Club.

The widow of G. William Gage, who died in 1980, she is survived by two daughters, Gwendolyn Goodrich and Janet Morin, both of Exeter; one son, Gardner Gage of Northfield, Conn.; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Brewitt Funeral Home, 8 Pleasant St., Epping. Friends may call on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service. Burial will follow in Prospect Cemetery, Epping.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Richie McFarland Children’s Center, 11 Sandy Point Road, Stratham, NH 03885.

Kathleen A. Kendrick

BEVERLY, Mass. - Kathleen A. (Kiely) Kendrick, 79, died Friday, June 6, 2003, in Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston.

She was born in Medford, Mass., the daughter of the late John and Mary (Shannon) Kiely and had resided in Beverly for more than 40 years.

Mrs. Kendrick worked at Beverly Pediatrics for many years.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Philip Kendrick of Beverly; one son and his wife, Philip E. and Janet Kendrick III of Exeter; two daughters and their husbands, Mary K. and David Boeggeman of Beverly and Kristine A. and Keith Regan of Essex, Mass.; four grandchildren; one brother, Thomas Kiely of Manchester by the Sea, Mass.; and two sisters, Mary Worth of Topsfield, Mass., and Theresa McCready of Medford, Mass.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Francis, Robert and John Kiely.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot St., Beverly.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:15 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, Beverly. Burial will be private.

James A. Leddy

NORTH HAMPTON - James A. Leddy, 72, of 203 Lafayette Road, died Sunday, June 8, 2003, in Exeter Hospital after a lengthy illness.

He was born Feb. 22, 1931, in Epping, the son of the late John S. and Victorine B. (Dion) Leddy. He was raised in Epping and resided in Hampton for many years before moving to North Hampton in 2001.

He attended Epping schools and St. Michael School in Exeter. He was a 1950 graduate of Exeter High School, attended St. Philip Neri Latin School in 1951, St. Thomas Seminary in 1952, and was a 1959 graduate of St. Anselm College. He attended Christ the King Seminary in 1960.

He was U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict serving as a platoon sergeant with Company E of the 15th Infantry Regiment and was the recipient of the Bronze Star .

Mr. Leddy was an employment counselor for the New Hampshire Department of Employment Security retiring in 1979 after 12 years of service. He was previously the assistant director of Camp Union in Greenfield, where he taught outdoor education and conservation. He later taught high school Latin in Deep River, Conn., in Lincoln and at Mascoma Regional High School in Canaan and Raymond High School.

He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton, were he served as a Eucharistic Minister and a Stevens Minister. He was a member of the Holy Name Society; the Order of Hibernias; the Knights of Columbus; the 3rd Order of St. Francis; and the Men of St. Joseph.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Elaine A. (Barrett) Leddy of North Hampton; one son, Chris J. Leddy of North Hampton; one stepson and his wife, Steven and Kendra LaChance of Scarborough, Maine; one stepdaughter and her husband, Lauri and Tim Bell of East Kingston; five grandchildren; two brothers, John S. Leddy of Palm Bay, Fla., and Joseph C. Leddy of Nottingham; three sisters, Joan M. Kenney of Sun City Center, Fla., Mary M. Kelley of Millington Conn., and Michaela A. Castoldi of Woonsocket, R.I.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by one brother, Thomas Leddy; and two sisters, Mary Jacobs and Constance Hayes.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday at noon in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton. After cremation in Phoenix Crematory, burial will be in Leddy Cemetery, Epping.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Vincent dePaul Society of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Parish, 289 Lafayette Road, Hampton, NH 03842 or to Rockingham VNA and Hospice, 137 Epping Road, Exeter, NH 03833.
