Patricia M. Dow

HAMPTON - Patricia Mae (Ryneska) Dow, 68, died Wednesday, August 20, 2003, at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation Center, Exeter.

She was born Jan. 20, 1935, in Amesbury, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Benjamin W. and Ella Mae (Miller) Ryneska.

She was a 1953 graduate of Amesbury High School

Mrs. Dow was the secretary to the principal of Amesbury Middle School for many years and had previously worked for the town of Amesbury in the tax collector’s office.

An avid traveler throughout her life, she enjoyed living overseas and visiting many countries. She enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Robert J. Dow; one son and his wife, Stephen and Carol Dow of Epping; two daughters, Lauri McAllister and her husband Dean of Amesbury; and Jennifer Dow, to be wed Aug. 30 to Scott MacIntire of Methuen, Mass.; two grandchildren; two sisters, Suzanne P. Saunders of Byfield, Mass., and Judy Ryneska of New Hampshire; and one nephew.

Funeral services were held Saturday in the Paul C. Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, Amesbury. Interment was in Bartlett Cemetery, Amesbury.

Memorial donations may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Division of Development & The Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place West, Brookline, MA 02445-7226.

Alma Dube

EXETER - Alma Dube, 97, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2003, at Exeter Healthcare after a period of failing health.

She was born Oct. 22, 1905, in Quebec, Canada, the daughter of the late Joseph and Elmire (Vaillancourt) Belanger and had resided in Exeter since 1928.

Mrs. Dube was a homemaker and had previously been a teacher in Canada.

She was an active communicant of St. Michael Church and cooked, cleaned and ironed at the rectory. She was a member of the Altar Society and the Christian Mother’s Club at the church. She was a former member of the French Club in Exeter.

The widow of Ernest Dube, she is survived by two sons, Lucien Dube of Exeter and Roger Dube of Alton Bay; one daughter, Rita Lacoursiere of Chicago; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by 13 brothers and sisters.

Friends may call Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Michael Church, Exeter. Burial will follow in Exeter Cemetery.

Helen W. Eastman

KENSINGTON - Helen W. (Evans) Eastman, 99, of 268 Amesbury Road, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, at Eventide Nursing Home, Exeter.

She was born May 17, 1904, in Kensington, the daughter of the late George A. and Clara (Greiner) Evans and was a lifelong resident of Kensington.

She was a 1923 graduate of Amesbury High School and served as the secretary for the 1923 AHS Class Reunion Committee for many years.

Mrs. Eastman worked at the former F.M. Hoyt Peanut Factory, the Walker Body Automobile Co., and the Merrimac Hat Corp. in Amesbury as a cost accountant for many years.

She served as master of East Rockingham Pomona Grange and as Ceres of the New Hampshire State Grange. She was a member of the National Grange and was elected Ceres of the National Grange in Atlantic City, N.J., serving in that capacity in 1952-’53. She was a member of the Agate, a past masters’ association of the Grange.

Mrs. Eastman was a member of Kensington Congregational Church and the Kensington Historical Society.

The widow of Charles R. Eastman, who died in 1989, she is survived by many nieces, nephews, grand and great-grandnieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Arthur and Horace Evans and three sisters, Beatrice Palmer, Gertrude Steeves of Jesse de Moulpied.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Village Cemetery, Kensington. Memorial services will follow at 11 a.m. in Kensington Congregational Church with the Rev. David Lennox officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Kensington Congregational Church, 128 Amesbury Road, Kensington, NH 03833 or to Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833.

Arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter.

Joyce Ann Heath

NEWFIELDS - Joyce Ann Heath, 64, of 3 Hilton Ave., , died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, at her home after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born Oct. 13, 1938, and was a lifelong resident of Newfields. She attended Robinson Female Seminary, Exeter.

Mrs. Heath worked at Lou’s Diner on Portsmouth Avenue, Exeter, and the old Exeter Hospital Coffee Shop.

She founded the Newfields Celebration Committee and as chairman instituted the Senior Luncheon, the Christmas Celebration, the town lighting contest and the Memorial Day celebration. She led the town in its 125th birthday celebration and the 10th Memorial Day Parade. She gave the town its nickname, "The Little Town with the Big Heart."

She was a founding member of the Christian Faith Church of Newfields and served in many capacities at the church, under her son-in-law Pastor Robert Collinge. She was especially loved by the children as she always did crafts with them in Sunday school, nursery and vacation bible school.

She was a member of the Garden Club; the Historical Society; Friends of the Library; the Elementary School Volunteers; 4-H; Home Extension; The Red Cross Blood Drive; and Supervisor of the Checklist.

She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Larry G. Heath; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Diane and Robert Collinge and Cheral Stonsifer, all of Newfields and Elaina and Rick York of Groveland, Mass.; two sons and their wives, Andy and Mary Heath of Strafford and Brad and Gail Heath of Newmarket; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Gloria Breedlove; and her specia* adopted" children.

She was predeceased by her mother, Bertha Torrey; and two aunts, Ruth Cunningham and Clara Torrey.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St., Newmarket.

A memorial celebration of her life will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Newfields Town Hall. The family requests that bright clothing be worn.

Joanne M. Mayer

PORTSMOUTH - Joanne M. "Jo" Mayer, 68, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, in Northeast Rehabilitation Hospital, Salem.

She was born March 6, 1935, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of the late Mancel and Maxine (McGhee) Smart. She had resided Hampton from 1957 until 1982 before moving to Portsmouth.

She was a graduate of Wyndotte High School, Kansas City, and attended the University of New Hampshire.

Mrs. Mayer was a co-owner of Little Professor Bookstore in Durham; and was employed in public relations and marketing for Theater by the Sea; Portsmouth Prescott Park Arts Festival; Dunfey/Sheraton Corp. of Hampton; Bisig/Noon Associates of Portsmouth; Jmark Associates of Bangor, Maine; and Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

She was a Cub Scout den mother in the 1960s; involved with the Accent Theater and had received notoriety as a lead actress in multiple roles in Kansas City; was a skilled piano, guitar and harpsichord player and was a music composer.

She enjoyed genealogy research; was an avid reader; skilled in computer graphics design and enjoyed traveling.

She is survived by her husband, Donald A. Mayer of Portsmouth; two sons, Stephen P. Bisig of Walkersville, Md., and William F. Bisig of Portsmouth; one stepson, Gregory Mayer of Raymond, Maine; three grandchildren; one sister, Carol Justice of Lees Summit, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews; and five foster children.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Jack Smart and Daniel Smart.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Peabody Funeral Home and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home with cremation following.

Shirley A. McLean

HAMPTON - Shirley Ann McLean, 65, died of cancer Friday, Aug. 22, 2003, at the Lahey Clinic, Burlington, Mass., after a brief illness.

She was born May 11, 1938, in Haverhill, Mass., the daughter of Lester and Florence Welch.

Mrs. McLean worked at Formax in Dover.

She is survived by her husband, David McLean; her children, Ricci and Lisa Accardi of Newburyport, Mass., Lisa Accardi of Derry, Julie and Kenneth Noyes of Kingston, Gina and Rob Oliva of Manchester, Marc Accardi of Lowell, Mass., and Wendy and Adam Mansur, Julie and Bud Melim, David and Lisa McLean and Shawn McLean, all of Florida; 10 grandchildren; three brothers, Lester Welch, Skip Welch and Jerry Welch; and two sisters, Janice Regan and Marilyn Corradino.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Robert K. Gray Jr. Funeral Home, 24 Winnacunnet Road, Hampton.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Leo J. Moriarty

KINGSTON - Leo J. "Moe" Moriarty, 79, of Scotland Road, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, in Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

He was born June 2, 1924, in Fall River, Mass., the son of the late Thomas and Lillian (Patry) Moriarty. He resided in Central Falls and Lincoln, R.I., before moving to Kingston in 1960.

He attended Holy Trinity and St. Raphael’s Academy where he excelled in sports.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving as a military policeman with the 309th Signal Company Wing in the European Theatre.

Mr. Moriarty was a salesman for the John Sexton Co., retiring after 30 years of service. He had previously worked for Sayles Finishing Plant in Saylesville, R.I., for 16 years.

He played semi-pro football for the Central Falls Townies and after moving to Kingston he was a player/coach in the men’s softball league.

Mr. Moriarty was serving his third term as supervisor of the checklist for Kingston. He was a member of the Kingston Volunteer Fire Department and the Kingston Veterans Club.

He is survived by his wife, Olive (Papineau) Moriarty of Kingston; two daughters, Pamela A. Moriarty of Hooksett and Paula E. Moriarty of Hampstead; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Gertrude Howells of Cumberland, R.I.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by one brother, Thomas Moriarty of Providence, R.I.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 11 a.m. in Mary, Mother of the Church, 12 Amesbury Road, Newton. Military burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Kingston.

Donald R. Sanborn

EPPING - Donald R. Sanborn, 90, of Fremont Road, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003, at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation Center, Exeter, after a brief illness.

He was born May 21, 1913, in Epping, the son of Walter P. and Sylvia A. Sanborn and was a lifelong resident of Epping.

He was U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving under General Patten in the Battle of the Bulge.

Mr. Sanborn owned and operated Sanborn’s Nursery and was the driver for the N.H. State Library Book Mobile for many years.

He was an avid reader and enjoyed sailing and spent many summers on Bow Lake in Strafford.

He was a member of the Rockingham County Grange and was a longtime contributor to the Epping Historical Society.

He is survived by two brothers, Richard F. Sanborn of Epping and Willard Sanborn of Pensacola, Fla.; one sister, Edith Ingalls of Madison, Maine; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held Saturday in Prospect Cemetery, Epping.

Memorial donations may be made to the Epping Firemen’s Association, 37 Pleasant St., Epping, NH 03042.

Arrangements were by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Epping.

Arthur H. Watson

BRENTWOOD - Arthur H. Watson, 77, of South Road, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2003, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home.

He was born Sept. 3, 1925, in Revere, Mass., the son of the late Arthur G. and Bessie (Sheppard) Watson.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Eugenia Watson of Brentwood; one daughter, Linda Pinto of Medford, N.Y.; one son, John G. Watson of Brentwood; two grandsons; one brother, Richard E. Watson of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday at noon in the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter, with the Rev. John E. Denson Jr., officiating. Burial will be in the N.H. State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen.
