GREENLAND - Frank F. Richards, 92, of Great Bay, died Sunday, July 13, 2003, at the Veteran’s Home, Tilton.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 12:45 to 2:45 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter.

Graveside services will follow at 3 p.m. in Exeter Cemetery.

A complete obituary will be published in Friday’s edition.

Gerhart T. Rycerz

HAMPTON - Gerhart T. Rycerz, 80, of 107 North Shore Road, died Thursday, July 10, 2003, at Haven Health Center at Seacoast.

He was born Aug. 10, 1922, in Chicago, the son of the late Roman and Antonina (Otwinowski) Rycerz. He resided in Hampton for 12 years, where he came from Green Bay, Wis. He lived in Green Bay for 17 years and, before that, made is home in Hoffman Estates, Ill.

He was a graduate of Lane Technical High School and Loyola University of Chicago.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in World War II and the Korean Conflict, and also served with the Naval Reserves.

Mr. Rycerz was a sales representative for Ambassador Wines for many years before retiring in 1991. He was previously a service manager for the Diebold Corp.

He was a communicant of St. Theresa Church, Rye Beach, and a member of the church choir; a volunteer at Exeter Hospital; and a former member of the Men’s Club of St. Theresa Church.

He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Anna Deschenes Boulanger Rycerz of Hampton; one son, David Rycerz of Chicago; one daughter, Sara Perrault of Green Bay; two granddaughters; one sister, Helen M. Rusnak of Cicero, Ill.; two stepsons, Noel J. Boulanger of New Westminster, C.D., Canada, and Eric A. Boulanger of Edgewood, Ken.; two stepdaughters, Lisa B. McNerney of Merrimack and Clare L. Boulanger of Grand Junction, Colo.; four step grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Lorraine (Dahl) Rycerz , who died in 1987, and one brother, Roman Rycerz Jr.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday in St. Theresa Church, Rye Beach. Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 15 Middle St., Portsmouth, NH 03801.

Arrangements were by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton.

Phyllis C. Tewksbury

NEWBURYPORT, Mass. - Phyllis C. Tewksbury, 70, of 18 School Street, died, Thursday, July 10, 1933, at her home after a sudden illness.

She was born Feb. 14, 2003, in Derry, the daughter of the late William and Beatrice (Proctor) Boles, and had been a resident of Newburyport for 15 years.

Mrs. Tewksbury was an attendant at Pinkerton Academy and owned and operated a health food store in Derry and later owned and operated the Women’s World Health Spa in Seabrook until her retirement.

She enjoyed stenciling, painting and sailing and loved dogs.

She is survived by three daughters; Debra Tewksbury of Hampton Beach, Nancy Tewksbury of Newburyport and Susie Tewksbury of Plum Island, Mass.; one son, Nelson Tewksbury of Seabrook; one granddaughter; two brothers; William Boles of Concord and Douglas Boles of Londonderry; seven sisters, Barbara Barka of Londonderry, Judy Sturnes of Seattle, Wash., Gail Gorham and Linda Dupere, both of Derry, Carol Chantclear of Londonderry, Deborah Clark of Seattle and Brenda Middlemiss of New York; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday at noon in Atwood Park, School Street, Newburyport .

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made for the care of Nancy Tewksbury, 18 School Street, Newburyport, MA 01950.

Katharyn M. Wheeler

NORTH HAMPTON - Katharyn May Wheeler, 81, of Post Road, died Saturday, July 12, 2003, in Portsmouth Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness.

She was born Feb. 9, 1922, in Brockton, Mass., the daughter of the late Herbert and Jeannette (West) Flynn. She was raised in Abbington, Mass., and had resided in England for four years before coming to North Hampton in 1959.

She was a graduate of Abbington High School and earned her associate degree from the University of New Hampshire.

Mrs. Wheeler taught remedial reading at Epping Elementary School for many years.

She enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of several bridge groups from York, Maine, to the Exeter area including the College Bridge Club. She enjoyed gardening and traveling.

She was an avid reader and was a member of the Friends of the North Hampton Library.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Donald L. Wheeler of North Hampton; one son, Blake Wheeler of Portland, Maine; one daughter, Katharyn Wheeler-Smith of Hampton; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Daniel Webster Room at the Exeter Inn, 90 Front St., Exeter.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Friends of the Library, 237 Atlantic Ave., North Hampton, NH 03862.

Arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter.

Esther M. White

HAMPTON - A Memorial Mass for Esther M. White will be celebrated Saturday, July 19, at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, 289 Lafayette Road, Hampton.

Mrs. White died May 16, 2003, in Palm Harbor, Fla.

Josephine J. Arneil

EPPING - Josephine J. "Chickie" Arneil, 65, of 18 Church St., died Monday, July 7, 2003, in Exeter Hospital after a sudden illness.

She was born March 4, 1938, in Boston, the daughter of the late James and Carmen (Cinelli) Giglio, and had resided in Epping since 1970.

She was a graduate of Fitton Catholic High School.

Mrs. Arneil was a homemaker and was known for her Italian cooking.

She was a communicant of St. Joseph Church and a volunteer with the Epping Youth Association Program. A golf tournament was held in her name recently to raise money for the National Kidney Foundation.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Thomas E. Arneil of Epping; four sons, Thomas E. Arneil II of Barrington, Scott J. Arneil of Melrose, Mass., Kevin M. Arneil of Epping and Steven J. Arneil of Troy, N.Y.; two daughters, Cheryl A. Maslowski of Kingsport, Tenn., and Paula J. Arneil of Hampton; and five grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Route 27, Epping. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Epping.

Memorial donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 1 Tremont St., Concord, NH 03301.

Duncan C. Ayles

HAMPTON FALLS - Duncan C. Ayles, 96, died Monday, July 7, 2003, in Quincy City Hospital, Quincy, Mass.

He was born in Boston and had resided in Hampton Falls and Milton, Mass., for more than 60 years.

He was a graduate of Wentworth Institute.

Mr. Ayles founded Ayles Plumbing and Heating Co., which continued doing business until 1980. His firm was noted for doing the plumbing, heating and air conditioning construction work for most of the major hospitals in Boston and throughout Massachusetts.

He was a former president and a member of the board of directors of the Plumbers Heating and Cooling Contractors and of Master Builders of Boston; a member of the board of the Charitable Mechanics Association; trustee of Local No. 12 Pension, Health and Welfare Funds; a director of the State Master Plumbers; founder, former director and past president of the building committee of H.O.M.E. in Milton; a member of the Odd Fellows for more than 70 years, and served on many committees at the East Congregational Church in Milton.

The widower of Marian M. (Barrett) Ayles, he is survived by two sons, Duncan C. Ayles Jr. of Falmouth, Mass., and Naples, Fla., and Paul D. Ayles of Braintree, Mass.; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one brother, George Ayles of Seabrook; and one sister, Myrtle Woodward of Hampton.

Graveside services will be held Friday at 11:30 a.m. in Westview Cemetery, Hampton Falls.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Milton Hospital Development Fund, 92 Highland St., Milton, MA 02186.

Arrangements are by the Chapman Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, Milton.

Clara Currier

KENSINGTON - Clara Currier, 80, of 115 South Road, died Tuesday, July 8, 2003, at her home after a period of failing health.

She was born March 31, 1923, in Lynn, Mass., the daughter of the late Herbert and Clara (Normington) Arnold and had resided in Kensington for 37 years, coming from Peabody, Mass.

Mrs. Currier was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 105 of Kensington and enjoyed crocheting and knitting and was an avid reader.

The widow of Charles O. Currier, she is survived by six sons and two daughters-in-law, Herbert Currier of Kensington, Roger and Cheryl Currier of Raymond, Dennis Currier of Kensington, Steven and Lois Currier of Princeton, Kan., Edward Currier of Raymond and David Currier of Manchester; five daughters and three sons-in-law, Marlene and Ken Lowery of Saco, Maine, Jane and Walter Hichens Jr. of Berwick, Maine, Ruth Pouliot of East Rochester, Laurel A. Currier of Kensington, and Debra and Benn Vennesland of Lancaster, Pa.; 23 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ernest Arnold of Peabody, Mass.; one aunt, Laura Archibald of Beverly, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by one son, Charles O. Currier.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter, with the Rev. Wayne VanGundy officiating. Burial will follow in Village Cemetery, Kensington.

Judith Ann Gagnon

HAMPTON - Judith Ann Gagnon, 47, of 340 Lafayette Road, died Saturday, July 5, 2003, in Anna Jaques Hospital, Newburyport, Mass., as the result of an automobile accident.

She was born Nov. 3, 1955, in Newburyport, the daughter of Margaret (Call) Gagnon of Newburyport and the late Roland W. Gagnon. She had resided in Hampton for three years.

Ms. Gagnon was a manufacturer’s representative for several suppliers and had previously worked for Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. in Portsmouth.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, bicycling, snowmobiling and needlework, and loved animals.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by one daughter and her husband, Juarndai Lei and John Emmert of Toledo, Ohio; one brother, Wayne R. Gagnon of North Hampton; two sisters, Paula M. Gagnon of Amesbury, Mass., and Linda J. Janvrin of Sandown, and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held Thursday in Belleville Cemetery, Newburyport.

Memorial donations may be made to the Newburyport Library, State Street, Newburyport, MA 01950.

Arrangements were by Simplicity Burial & Cremation Services, Newburyport.

Minnie M. Drysdale

NORTH HAMPTON - Minnie M. Drysdale, 87, of 15 Post Road died Sunday, July 6, 2003, in Exeter Hospital.

She was born Aug. 1, 1915, in Exeter, the daughter of the late Arthur R. and Elizabeth A. (Phelps) Eugley and resided in North Hampton for many years.

She attended Exeter elementary schools and was a graduate of Robinson Female Seminary.

Mrs. Drysdale worked in summer residences at Little Boar’s Head for 42 years. She had previously worked at Exeter Hospital and Phillips Exeter Academy until her marriage.

She was the ballot clerk in North Hampton for 31 years and volunteered at Fuller Gardens for 17 years. She worked with the Friends of the Library for 12 years; was secretary of the Historical Society; a member of the Women’s Club where she held several offices; and the Bush and Garden Club.

She was a member of United Church of Christ, North Hampton, and the Ladies Union of the church.

The widow of John W. Drysdale, her husband of 54 years who died in 1997, she is survived by several nieces and nephews including Stella Wells of North Hampton; and one sister-in-law, Margaret D. Barker of Stratham.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Arthur, Harry and Charles Eugley.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Center Cemetery, North Hampton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the N.H. SPCA, P.O. Box 196, Stratham, NH 03885.

Joan E. Eustis

EXETER - Joan E. Eustis, 64, of 9 Crestview Drive, died Sunday, July 6, 2003, at her home.

She was born May 28, 1939, in Manchester, the daughter of the late Victor and Ruth (Plaisted) MacKenzie.

She was a graduate of Pembroke Academy, the University of New Hampshire and received her master’s degree from UNH and Salem State College.

Mrs. Eustis was the assistant principal at Exeter AREA Junior High School and had previously taught U.S. history for many years at the school.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Richard H. Eustis of Exeter; one son, Richard H. Eustis Jr. of Exeter; one daughter, Terry Eustis and her husband Martin Stollar of Exeter; three grandchildren; one brother, Douglas MacKenzie of Manchester; and one sister, Cin Marston of Calleo, Va.

She was predeceased by one brother, Richard MacKenzie.

A memorial gathering will be held Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Stockbridge Funeral Home, 141 Epping Road, Exeter.

Graveside services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in Exeter Cemetery. (Please use the Linden Street entrance).
