Lorraine T. Goodrich

EXETER - Lorraine Thyng Goodrich, 79, of Spruce Street, died Wednesday, July 2, 2003, in Portsmouth Regional Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born Jan. 12, 1924, in Exeter, the daughter of the late Ralph S. and Ruth F. (Sleeper) Thyng. She lived most of her life in Exeter and had resided in Epping from 1948 until 1961.

Mrs. Goodrich was a homemaker.

She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Exeter; the First Baptist Church Woman’s Fellowship; the American Association of Retired Persons, Exeter; the Exeter Woman’s Club; and the Corinthian Queen Esther Chapter No. 23, Order of the Eastern Star.

The widow of R. Dexter Goodrich, who died in 2002, she is survived by three sons, David D. Goodrich of Deerfield, Robert R. Goodrich of Epping and Stephen S. Goodrich of Shoreham, Vt.; four grandchildren; and one sister, Frances Kusiak of Nashua.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in First Baptist Church of Exeter, with the Rev. Jamie Moynihan officiating. A reception will follow in the church vestry. Burial will be in Prospect Cemetery, Epping, at a later date.

In lieu flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 2 Spring St., Exeter, NH 03833.

Arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter.

Raymond LeBeau

NEWMARKET - Raymond LeBeau, 65, died Friday, July 4, 2003, in Exeter Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born Feb. 12, 1938, in Brentwood, the son of the late Claudio and Clarisse (Archambeault) LeBeau.

He attended St. Mary’s and Newmarket High School and was a U.S. Army Veteran serving from 1956 to 1959 as a machinist in Germany attaining the rank of specialist fourth class.

Mr. LeBeau was highly skilled in the building trades and retired from Turcotte’s Housing Service several years ago.

He is survived by one daughter and her husband, Laurie and Chris Frysalis of Newfields; one son and his wife, Paul and Colleen LeBeau of Newmarket; three grandsons; three sisters, Theresa Mailhot of Epping, Doris Chapman of Newmarket and Yvonne Cassell of Milo, Maine; one aunt and uncle, Armand and Thelma LeBeau of Lee; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by two brothers, William LeBeau and Wilfred "Pete" LeBeau; and twin granddaughters, Catherine and Elizabeth LeBeau.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St., Newmarket. The Sons of the American Legion will conduct a service at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Calvary Cemetery, Newmarket.

Thelma G. MacKinnon

SALISBURY, Mass. - Thelma G. (Furlong) MacKinnon, 83, of 82 Lafayette Road, died Friday, July 4, 2003, in Anna Jaques Hospital, Newburyport, Mass.

She was born October 23, 1919, in Tilton, the daughter of the late Walter and Lena (Loranger) Furlong, and was raised on her grandmother’s farm in Laconia.

She was a 1937 graduate of Cambridge High School.

Mrs. MacKinnon helped her husband in the restoration of antique cars, doing the upholstery work. She had also worked at Sunnyslope Greenhouses at Maudslay with the Chase family and worked as a baker at Triton Regional High School.

As a trained dancer, she had won several dancing awards, and was also an avid swimmer.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Charles O. MacKinnon; two sons and their wives, Richard C. and Deborah MacKinnon of Newburyport and Robert E. MacKinnon of South Hampton and his wife Rena of Country Manor Nursing Home, Newburyport; two daughters, Fae A. Hodge of Newburg, Maine, and Mayellen Fournier and her husband Wayne of North Hampton; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Monday in Belleville Cemetery, Newburyport.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Arrangements were by the Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Funeral Home, Newburyport.

Charles W. Peabody

FT. PIERCE, Fla. - Charles W. Peabody, 84, of Stratham and Ft. Pierce, died Wednesday, July 2, 2003, in Port St. Lucie.

He was born Jan. 16, 1919, in Nashua, the son of the late Arthur and Mabel (Gile) Peabody. He resided in Pelham before moving to Stratham 55 years ago. Mr. Peabody was a technician for the New Hampshire-Vermont Breeding Association in Rockingham County for many years. He was also a farmer and farm equipment salesman. He was involved with the Young Farmers of America, 4H and the Heifer Project. He was a former Stratham postmaster and was a supervisor of the checklist in Stratham. He enjoyed gardening, animals, bowling, horse racing and playing cards.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Katherine (Smith) Peabody; two sons and their wives, Charles and Patricia Peabody of North Bridgton, Maine, and James and Ann Peabody of Bretton Woods and Hutchinson Island, Fla.; two daughters, Martha Pidgeon and her husband Donald of Stratham and Ft. Pierce, and Ruth Gervais of Albion, Maine; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Hilda Richardson of Pelham; and several nieces and nephews.

There are no calling hours. Memorial services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Stratham Community Church.

Amelia Smith

NEWMARKET - Amelia "Millie" Smith, 88, formerly of 65 New Road, died Friday, July 4, 2003, at the Mark Wentworth Home, Portsmouth.

She was born Dec. 4, 1914, in Newmarket, the daughter of Frank and Albina (Sklarski) Szeliga. She was raised in Newmarket and resided in Exeter for many years coming back to Newmarket in 1975.

Mrs. Smith worked at Timberland Shoe Co. of Newmarket and had previously worked at several shoe manufacturing locations in Exeter.

The widow of George D. Smith, who died in 1990, she is survived by one sister, Bertha Kustra of Newmarket; one brother, John Szeliga of Newmarket; one son-in-law, Herbert A Thompson of Barrington; three grandchildren; seven great-granddaughters; one great-great-grandson; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by one daughter, Joan Thompson, who died in 1997; two sisters, her twin sister, Josephine Maslowski and Dorothy Szeliga.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St., Newmarket with Pastor Chris Clinch officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Newmarket.

Elizabeth Vogler

EXETER - Elizabeth "Bette" Vogler, 73, died Wednesday, July 2, 2003, in Monadnock Lodge at RiverWoods of Exeter, five days before her 74th birthday, following a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.

She was born in Revere, Mass., the second daughter and eighth child of John and Adriana Vanderpot, both Dutch immigrants. She was raised in the Beachmont section of Revere, graduated from Revere High School and attended Boston University. She worked for 15 years as private secretary to Thomas Dudley Cabot, president and later chairman of Cabot Corporation in Boston. She was married in Boston’s Old North Church in 1955, and accompanied her husband to India during his three year assignment as design consultant to the Indian Institute of Technology at Kanpur. On their return to the United States they moved to a 1770 farmhouse in Epping, where they lived until 1998.

She was a vibrant, outspoken woman with a quick, inquiring mind and an enormous variety of interests ranging from classical music, (she regularly attended the Boston Symphony’s Friday afternoon concerts), jazz and Broadway musicals, to antique furniture, silver and glass, cooking, gardening and everything Dutch. She admired and studied the works of Emily Dickinson, D.H. Lawrence and Gerald Brenan, read everything she could find about the history of the Adams Family of Quincy, collected contemporary crafts (she served on the board of the Exeter branch of the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen), and cared tenderly for every wild creature in need. She was a devoted mother who instilled strong and worthy life values in both her children, which they are still learning to appreciate as they raise children of their own.

She is survived by her husband, Roger Vogler of Newmarket; one son, Edmund "Ned" Vogler of Tolland, Conn.; one daughter, Sharan Moore of Kittery, Maine; four grandchildren; one sister, Johanna Beal of Melrose, Mass.; two brothers, John of San Diego and Leonard of Red Hook, N.Y.

A memorial service will be held on a date to be announced in Epping Community Church where she was a member and sang in the choir for many years. For information about the service contact Roger Vogler at 659-6023 or by e-mail at roger.vogler@verizon.net.

Katherine C. Caldarola

HAMPTON - Katherine C. "Kay" Caldarola, 97, of 7 Dearborn Ave., died Monday, June 30, 2003, at Haven Health Center at Seacoast.

She was born Jan. 20, 1906, in Terlizzi, Italy, the daughter of the late Pasquale and Grace (Marinelli) Molinini. She moved to Brooklyn, N.Y., when she was 3 and had resided in Dorchester and East Bridgewater, Mass., for most of her life, coming to Hampton in 1995.

She was educated in Brooklyn schools.

Mrs. Caldarola was a member of the Sons of Italy in Brockton, Mass., and enjoyed playing cards.

The widow of Frank Caldarola, who died in 1982, she is survived by one daughter, Nicolletta G. LeClair of East Kingston; two daughters-in-law, Lena Caldarola of Quincy, Mass., and Rose Caldarola of Rockland, Mass.; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by two children, Vincent Caldarola and Pat Caldarola.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Thursday in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton. Mausoleum encryptment will be Monday, July 7, at 11 a.m. in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree, Mass.

Bing E. Dean

SEABROOK - Bing E. Dean, 52, of 944 Lafayette Road, died Monday, June 30, 2003, in Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

He was born Jan. 17, 1951, in Rochester, the son of the late John Dean. He was raised in Madbury and had resided in York, Maine, before moving to Seabrook 11 years ago.

He was educated in Durham schools and was a U.S. Army veteran.

Mr. Dean was a heavy-equipment operator for many local construction companies and most recently employed by Ocean Access of Portsmouth before becoming disabled.

He enjoyed fishing at Seabrook Harbor and was a member of the Seabrook American Legion Post No. 70.

He is survived by Melinda Tessicini of Seabrook; one son, Ben Dean of Rochester; one stepson, Adam Tessicini of Tampa, Fla.; one brother, David Dean of Farmington; one sister, Linda Cymbalak of Palm Bay, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, July 5, at 1 p.m. at 124 Burnt Mill Road, Wells, Maine. Call 474-5493 or (207) 646-0397 for directions.

Richard W. Fuller

FREMONT - Richard W. Fuller, 76, of 9 Bruce Ave., died Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at the Colonial Poplin Nursing Home.

He was born April 24, 1927, in Jamaica Plain, Mass., the son of the late Frank I. and Blanche A. (Bryant) Fuller. He had resided in Woburn and Medford, Mass., before moving to Fremont in 1993.

He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II serving in Japan.

Mr. Fuller was employed by Harvard University for several years.

He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans.

The widower of Ruth L. (Clark) Fuller, he is survived by one daughter, Judith Queen of Woburn; one son, Gerald Fuller of Bradford, Mass.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Lillian Scott of Newmarket; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, July 13, at 3:30 p.m. in the Church of the Nazarene, 957 Kenoza St., Haverhill, Mass. Private burial will be in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, 85 Willow St., Malden, MA 02148.
