Frances A. Wilkes, LYNNFIELD, MASS., & EXETER

Wednesday, April 21, 1999

LYNNFIELD, MASS., & EXETER - Frances Ames Wilkes, wife of Gordon Wilkes Jr. and mother of Adrienne Handschu of Line Lexington, Pa., Gail Moyers of Bow, Jeff Wilkes of Conway, Mass., and Brent Wilkes of Middleton, Mass., died recently. She is also survived by a brother, Col. Richard Ames of Northport, Maine; ten grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of the Center Congregational Church in Lynnfield, Mass.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Exeter Hospital, Oncology Clinic, 10 Buzzell Ave., Exeter 03833.

Brewitt Funeral Home in Exeter is in charge of arrangements.

Rita M. LaRoche, GILFORD

GILFORD - Rita M. (Nadeau) LaRoche, 67, of Stark Street, died on Monday at Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia.

She was born in Laconia, the daughter of Ferdinand and Irene (Boissoneau) Nadeau. She had attended Laconia schools and was a lifelong resident of the Laconia area. She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Lakes Church in Lakeport.

She is survived by her husband, Richard LaRoche of Gilford; two daughters, Deborah Hawkins of Weirs Beach and Karen Smith of Laconia; and four grandchildren, Lyndsey Hawkins of Weirs Beach, and Jason Smith, Kenneth Smith and Kelli Smith, all of Laconia.

Calling hours will be private.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated tomorrow at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Lakes Church, 50 Washington St., Lakeport, with the Rev. George Soberick, pastor, as celebrant.

Burial will be held in Union Cemetery, Laconia.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Vincent De Paul, P.O. Box 6123, Lakeport 03247, or to Meals on Wheels CAP, 306 Union Ave., Laconia 03246.

The Dewhirst Funeral Home, 1061 Union Ave., Laconia, is in charge of arrangements.

Brian S. Sorbie, NORTHFIELD

NORTHFIELD - Brian Scott "Big Daddy" Sorbie, 31, of Ski Hill Drive, died on Sunday in Tilton.

He was born in Sewickley, Pa., the son of William Sorbie Jr. of Tierra Verde, Fla., and Eileen Reagan of Clearwater, Fla. He had lived in Northfield for the last 18 months, coming from the Detroit area.

After graduating from Lapeer High School in Lapeer, Mich., he attended Howard Specks Broadcasting School and Oakland Community College in Detroit.

He served in the U.S. Army as a telecommunications specialist and was employed at the Abundant Life in Chichester as a salesman.

He was a member of the Franklin Lodge of Elks No. 1280 and the Scottish AM Society.

In addition to his parents of Florida, he is survived by his grandfather, William Sorbie Sr. of South Yarmouth, Mass.; his grandmother, Ethel Sorbie of Kialua, Hawaii; three brothers, William Sorbie III of Dunedin, Fla., Dennis Sorbie of Northfield, and Michael Sorbie of Palm Harbor, Fla.; an aunt and uncle; and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of his life will be held today from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Franklin Lodge of Elks, 192 Central St., Franklin. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Rett Syndrome Association, 9121 Piscataway Road, Clinton, Md. 20735.

The William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home in Tilton is in charge of arrangements.

Donald W. Stevens

Donald W. Stevens, 85, formerly of Bow, died Friday after a long illness.

He was born in Webster, the son of William and Anne (Cook) Stevens. He grew up in Salisbury and moved to Bow after he was married. He retired from the Merrimack Farmers Exchange and also owned a dairy farm. He later started his own construction business, which was his most loved work.

He was a 50-year member of the former Advent Christian Church in Concord, and had served as church treasurer, trustee and deacon.

He was predeceased by a sister, Ina Atkinson; and two brothers, Shirley Stevens and Harry Stevens.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy (MacDougall) Stevens of Concord; three daughters, Linda Irving of Webster, Shirley Johnson of Salisbury and Susan Smith of Penacook; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A calling hour will be held Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Concord Community Music School, 23 Wall St., Concord.

Funeral services will be held after the calling hour at 10 a.m. at the Concord Community Music School. The Rev. Bryce Whiting will officiate. Burial will take place after the service in Evans Cemetery, Bow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Concord Community Music School, 23 Wall St., Concord 03301, or to the Lou Gerhig Foundation, c/o Muscular Dystrophy, 555 Auburn St., Manchester 03101.

The Bennett Funeral Home in Concord is in charge of arrangements.

Doris B. Brown

Wednesday, April 21, 1999

Doris Bertha Brown, formerly of Loudon Road, died Monday at the Pleasant View Elder Care facility after a long illness.

She was born in Milton, Vt., the daughter of Benjamin and Eugenia (Danforth) Blaisdell, but had lived in the Concord area all her life.

She worked at S.S. Kresgee's for 18 years, and at King's Department Store for eight years, retiring in 1974.

She was predeceased by her husband, Garold Brown.

She was the beloved mother of Marjorie Floyd of Concord and Carolyn Horne of Pembroke. She also is survived by five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

There will be no calling hours, and private burial will be in Contoocook Village Cemetery.

The Boutwell & Hussey-Wiren Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Chester C. Sheldon, ANDOVER

Wednesday, April 21, 1999

ANDOVER - Chester "Chet" C .Sheldon, 77, of Elbow Pond Road, died Monday at the New London Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born in Burrillville, R.I., the son of Charles and Florence (Aldrich) Sheldon. He had lived in Andover most of his life.

He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He had been employed by the State of New Hampshire Highway Department for 43 years, and from 1973 until his retirement in 1983, he had been a foreman. He was an avid gardener, and he enjoyed watching his granddaughter play softball.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Marjorie (Lamontagne) Sheldon of Andover; a daughter, Susan Emerson of Wilmot; three granddaughters; a brother, Robert Sheldon of Penacook; two nephews and cousins.

There will be no calling hours.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the Andover Congregational Church, East Andover, with the Rev. John Wagner, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, East Andover. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Andover Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 209, Andover 03216.

Harriet C. Deinhardt, EPSOM

EPSOM - A graveside service and burial for Harriet "Polly" (Andrews) Chase Deinhardt, 88, of New Orchard Road, who died Jan. 12, will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. It will be held at the New Rye Cemetery in Epsom and the Rev. Hubert Topliff will officiate.

EPSOM - A graveside service for John F. Pickering, Sr., 78, of New Rye Road, who died on Feb. 21, will be held on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. It will be held at the McClary Cemetery, Epsom. The Rev. Dan Stauffacher, pastor of the First Congregational Church of Pembroke, will officiate.

Ella J. LeClerc, HENNIKER

Wednesday, April 21, 1999

HENNIKER - Ella J. LeClerc, 92, died on Sunday at the Concord Hospital. She was born in Manchester, the daughter of Jean-Baptiste and Denise (Lambert) Rejimbal.

She attended St. George School and lived in Manchester until her marriage in 1929. She then lived in Detroit, Manchester and since 1936, in Henniker.

During WWII, she served as an Aircraft Observer in Henniker. She also worked for G.T.T. Sylvania for a number of years, retiring in 1961.

She was a member of St. Theresa Church from 1936 until her death. She was and avid golfer and liked boating. She became a competent painter in her later years, producing some 40 works. She was longtime member of Emerson Hill Extension Club in Contoocook and was club treasurer for several years.

She enjoyed music, and she played the piano and organ for St. Theresa Church in Henniker and other area churches for many years.

She was predeceased by her husband, Paul LeClerc.

She is survived by her son, Richard LeClerc of Bellevue, Neb.; three grandchildren, John LeClerc of Olympia, Wash., Marc LeClerc of Omaha, Neb., and Nicole LeClerc of Omaha, Neb.; one sister, Lillian Caron of Manchester; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held tomorrow from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Holt-Woodbury Funeral Home, 3 Hall Ave., Henniker.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Theresa Church, Henniker, with the Rev. Andre Thibodeau, pastor, officiating.

Donations may be made in her name to the St. Theresa Church, P.O. Box 557, Henniker 03242 or the Henniker Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 91, Henniker 03242.

Wendell J. Kimton, SAUGUS, Calif.

Tuesday, April 20, 1999

SAUGUS, Calif. - Wendell J. Kimton, 63, a former Concord resident, died March 23 at his home in the Angeles National Forest, Saugus, Calif.

He was born in Penacook, the son of Forrest and Nora Kimton, and had lived in California since 1959.

He retired from General Telephone of California in 1986 and had served in the United States Navy from 1955 through 1959. While in the service, he served on board the USS Rich.

In addition to his father, he was predeceased by his grandfather, Peter Ferrin.

In addition to his mother of Sylmar, Calif., he is survived by a sister, Karen Duvall of Sylmar, Calif.; and relatives and friends in New Hampshire, California and New York.

Services were held in California.

Frieda Bauer, WOLFEBORO

WOLFEBORO - Frieda Bauer, 93, of Clipper Drive, died Sunday after a short illness.

She was born in Munich, Germany, the daughter of Adolph and Anna Epstein.

She did clerical work at one time, and worked with her husband at Melrose Beauty Salon.

She was active in local community theater, and received the Tennessee outstanding achievement award from then governor, Lamar Alexander.

She is survived by two sons, Edward Bauer of Pittsfield and Harold Bauer of Hinsdale, Ill.

There are no calling hours.

The Cremation Society of New Hampshire is in charge of arrangements.
