Leo W. Rocheleau, SUTTON

Sunday, April 18, 1999

SUTTON - Leo "Keya" W. Rocheleau Jr., of Chazy, N.Y., and formerly of Sutton, died Friday at the Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburg, N.Y. He was 66.

Born in Newport, R.I., he was the son of the late Leo W. Sr. and Marion E. (Peckham) Rocheleau.

A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, he was a carpenter for many years.

He leaves his wife of 25 years, Ursula (Durgin) Rocheleau of Chazy, N.Y.; four sons, John Rocheleau of Concord, Gerard Rocheleau of Hopkinton, and Marc Rocheleau and Joseph Rocheleau, both of Chazy; six daughters, Sarah Rocheleau of Concord, Jeannette Gevedon and Vicki Ovady, both of Vacaville, Calif., Renee Chamberlain of Jaffrey, Michele Pheneuf of Rouses Point, N.Y., and Christine Rocheleau of Plattsburg; two sisters, Dorothy Reese of Albany, N.Y., and Carole Hartmann of Holyoke, Mass.; 13 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow in the Holt-Woodbury Funeral Home, 3 Hall Ave., Henniker.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday in Millwoods Cemetery, Sutton.

Donations may be made in his name to the Rouses Point Rescue Squad, Rouses Point, N.Y. 12979.

Sylvia M. Chabot

Sunday, April 18, 1999

Sylvia M. Chabot, 77, of Keene and a relative of area residents, died yesterday in the Genesis Eldercare Center in Keene after a long illness.

She was born in Suncook, the daughter of Alexander and Florence (Plourde) Bergevin.

She had lived in Concord before moving to Keene in the early 1940s.

She worked as a bookkeeper for many years for the city of Keene, the Keene Police Department, and then for Bergevin Truck Sales before her retirement.

She was a member of St. Bernard's Church in Keene, the Catholic Daughters of America Court Josephine No. 319, the Ladies of St. Anne Sodality, and the Keene Knights of Columbus No. 819 Ladies Auxiliary.

She enjoyed golfing and was a longtime member of the Pine Grove Springs Golf Club in Spofford.

She was a former member of the Candlepin Bowling League of Keene. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing and crafts.

Survivors include her husband, Edward Chabot of Keene; a son, Richard Hall of Keene; a daughter, Donna Koledo of Springfield, Vt.; a brother, Albert Bergevin of Keene; a sister, Dorothy Carlson of Concord; an uncle, William Bergevin of Epsom; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court St., Keene.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday morning at 11 in St. Bernard's Church, 185 Main St., Keene.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Keene.

H. Everett Humphreys, ANDOVER

Friday, April 16, 1999

ANDOVER - H. Everett Humphreys, 92, died Wednesday at Concord Hospital following a brief illness.

He was born in Johnston, R.I., the son of Thomas and Jemi Anne (Page) Humphreys. He was educated in Lowell, Mass., schools and at Northeastern University.

He was a longtime resident of Concord and had made his home at the Ragged Mountain Fish and Game Club in Andover for the past 12 years. He founded H.E. Humphreys Corporation in 1930 and served as president until his retirement in 1961. He was the first distributor of commercial refrigerating equipment in the state.

He was the first New Hampshire member elected to the American Society of Refrigerating Engineers. He was a charter member of the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society and vice president of the American Refrigeration Distributors Association. He pioneered the application of low-pressure refrigerants and forced-convection cooling.

He was a past director of the First Capitol Bank, Page Belting Co., and McLeod Leather & Belting Co. He was a former director of Continental Telephone Co. of New Hampshire, Concord Investment Co., and Northeast Investment Corp. He had been a director of the New Hampshire Business Development Corp., Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce, United Way, Concord YMCA and corporator of Concord Hospital.

He was past president of the Concord Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member of the Concord Snowshoe Club, Ragged Mt. Fish and Game Club, Northeastern Alumni Association, The Newcomer Society, Andover Historical Society, Pineconia Grange, The Society for the Protection of N.H. Forests and the Concord Elks Club. He was a charter member of Passaconaway Club.

He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Eleanor Gerrish.

He is survived by three daughters, Sally Nicoll of Andover, Gail Taylor of Old Town, Maine, and Jemi Howell of New Haven, Conn.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Myrtle McCoy of Beverly, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.

Burial will be private. A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. on May 9 at the Ragged Mountain Fish and Game Club, Andover. Memorial donations may be made to The Society for the Protection of NH Forests, 54 Portsmouth St., Concord 03301; the Andover Historical Society, c/o George Upton, Treasurer, P.O. Box 30, Andover 03126; or to the charity of one's choice.

Henry F. Cutter, ANTRIM

Friday, April 16, 1999

ANTRIM - Henry F. Cutter, 82, died yesterday at the Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough. He was the son of Fred and Nellie (Holmes) Cutter.

He was a lifelong resident of Antrim. He worked for Phil Baker, restoring old homes in Salem, Mass. He also worked for New Hampshire Ball Bearing Co. for 25 years and was a 53-year member of the Antrim Fire Department, which he was chief of from 1967 to 1987, when he retired.

He was a member of the Antrim Historical Society, the Myer Prescott-Olson American Legion Post No. 50 in Antrim, and the Waverly Odd Fellows Lodge No. 59 in Antrim for 37 years.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Gwendolyn (Sudsbury) Cutter of Antrim; a daughter, Nancy Clough of Bennington; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Maurice Cutter of Antrim; a sister, Halen Bradbury of Antrim; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Holt-Woodbury Funeral Home, 32 School St., Hillsboro. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 2 p.m. in the Antrim Baptist Church, with the Rev. Charles Boucher, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery in Antrim.

Reuben Miller, CHICAGO

Friday, April 16, 1999

CHICAGO - Reuben Miller, 73, of Chicago and Midlothian, Ill., died on Tuesday in Chicago.

He was born in Brockton, Mass., the son of Peter and Lucy Miller. He held several degrees from various colleges, including Harvard, Chicago Law School and Kent University.

He served as first lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force during WWII. He retired from his job as an industrial engineer at U.S. Steel after 30 years. He then began a second career as an attorney, practicing until his death.

He is survived by a daughter, Robin (Douglas) Haskell of Penacook; a granddaughter, Lynn Miller; a brother, George Miller of Rockland, Mass.; nieces and a nephew; and a companion of 26 years, Rita Lee of Midlothian, Ill.

He was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Saylor.

Visiting hours are today from 2 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. at Hickey Memorial Chapel in Midlothian, Ill.

Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Calumet City, Ill.

Judson W. Downie, NEWBURY

Friday, April 16, 1999

NEWBURY - Judson W. Downie, 71, of Fortune Lane, died Tuesday at his home.

He was born in Melrose, Mass., the son of William and Emma (Barrows) Downie. He spent his early years in Malden, Mass., and graduated from Malden High School. He lived in Newbury for the past 33 years, previously residing in Melrose, Mass., and Sutton.

He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean conflict. He was a self-employed contractor and built many area homes.

He was a member of the Maplewood Baptist Church in Malden, Mass. He also was a member of the New London American Legion Post No. 40 and a former member of the VFW. He was a founder of the Concord and Claremont Railroad Club and enjoyed model railroading as well.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Maxine (Dunn) Downie of Newbury; a son, Alan Downie of Merrimack; a brother, William Downie of East Greenwich, R.I.; a nephew and a grandnephew.

There will be no calling hours.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m. at the South Newbury Union Church, with the Rev. William Salt, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Newbury, with military honors by New London American Legion Post No. 40. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bradford Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 318, Bradford 03221; the Newbury F.A.S.T. Squad, P.O. Box 373, Newbury 03255; or to Lake Sunapee Region Visiting Nurse Association, P.O. Box 2209, New London 03257. Thomas G. Shovan, NEW LONDON

NEW LONDON - Thomas G. Shovan, 59, died on Friday at St. Luke's/Roosevelt Hospital in New York City.

He attended Boston University's School of Public Relations and Communications, where he earned a B.S. degree in communications.

He started his career in broadcasting as a child when he joined his hometown radio station, WKXL, Concord, where he had on-air responsibilities. He continued to advance as an air personality at a number of stations throughout the northeast, including WSMN, Nashua, and WKBR, Manchester.

He was program director at WFEA, Manchester, and WDOT, Burlington, Vt., as well as news director at WJAB, Portland, Me., production director at WPOP, Hartford, Conn., and air personality at WPTR, Albany, N.Y., WMEX, Boston, Mass., and WINS, New York.

He crossed over from talent programming to management in 1968 as Vice President/Operations of the Star Group, where he oversaw three radio stations in New York, as well as the Upstate New York Hightower Cable System, the management and operation of the group's cinema theaters and one New York live theater.

He built WHVW-FM, Hyde Park, Poughkeepsie, and was group manager for co-owned WALL AM and FM, Middletown, N.Y. He also turned WFIF, a station in debt, into a profitable sale.

He served as executive vice president of marketing for Aries II, a recording company connected to Wayne Newton. There, he was the overseer of television, radio, print, and in-store advertising, promotion and marketing on behalf of Newton's recordings and fan merchandise.

He organized The Creative Radio Network and managed the writing, recording, contracts and programming syndicated by Golden West Broadcast Productions. He later produced and sold "Gary Owens Supertracks". His company, C.R.N. Media Inc., expanded into consultation of radio station management with a specialty in production, marketing and sales.

He was also the editor and publisher of PULSE, a trade magazine for the broadcasting industry. He was recognized many times in his field, including when he was honored by the industry as a Radio Broadcast Pioneer.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. George Shovan of New London; his brother and sister in law, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Shovan of Peterborough; and his niece, Lydia Shovan of Peterborough.

There will be a memorial service at the American Broadcasters' Museum in New York City. Donations may be sent to the American Broadcasters' Museum.

Chadwick Funeral Service in New London is in charge of arrangements.

Pauline B. Warden

NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Pauline B. "Polly" (Dauray) Warden, 74, of Greenville Road, North Smithfield, R.I., the mother of a Bow resident, died Tuesday at the Philip Hulitar House in Providence, R.I.

She was born in Woonsocket, R.I., the daughter of Victor and Beatrice (Girard) Dauray. She had lived in North Smithfield since 1965.

She was a 1941 graduate of Woon High School and she received a B.S. from the University of Rhode Island in 1946. She also earned a master's degree in special education at Rhode Island College in 1968.

She was a special education teacher for the North Smithfield School System for 15 years, retiring in 1982.

She was a founder of the Rhode Island chapter of the Cjogren's Syndrome Foundation, as well as an active volunteer for Hope for Animal's Sanctuary in North Smithfield and a member of the URI Alumni Association.

She was predeceased by a brother, Raymond Dauray, and a sister, Jeannette Langelier.

She is survived by a son, Dauray Warden of Bow; a daughter, Diane Deuschell of Kingston, R.I.; a sister, Christine Karpinski of Waterford, Conn.; and five grandchildren.

There will be a Mass tomorrow at 10 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church, Church Street, Slatersville, R.I. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery.

The Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main Street, Woonsocket, R.I., is in charge of the arrangements.

Vincent A. Daughen, DANBURY

Thursday, April 15, 1999

DANBURY - Vincent A. Daughen, 90, formerly of Waukeena Lake Road, died Sunday at the New Hampshire Veterans Home in Tilton.

He was born in Antwerp, N.Y., the son of Daniel and Nellie (LaFave) Daughen.

He lived in Manchester for many years, where he worked as a truck driver for Robert's Express, Bachelor Brothers and Quinn's Express.

After retiring in 1971, he moved to Danbury.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran, who served with the military police during World War II.

He was a member and past commander of the Lee-Knapp American Legion Post No. 69 of Danbury, and a member of the Blazing Star and Blackwater Grange, where he had held the office of gatekeeper.

He was also a member of the Pomona and State Grange, a member of the Danbury Volunteer Fire Department and a former member of the Teamster's Union.

He was predeceased by an infant son, Colin Daughen; and five siblings, Fenton Daughen, Elmer Daughen, Leroy Daughen, William Daughen and Julia Daughen.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Eleanor (Hamilton) Daughen of Danbury; two sons, Wayne Daughen of Concord and Keith Daughen of Danbury; a daughter, Joyce Thomas of Whitefield; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Carl Daughen of LaFargeville, N.Y.; a sister, Katherine Landers of Theresa, N.Y.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. in the United Church of Danbury. The Rev. George Peters will officiate. Burial will take place after the service in Riverdale Cemetery, Danbury, with honors conducted by the Lee-Knapp Post No. 69.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lee-Knapp Post, c/o Mike Barnett, or to the Danbury Volunteer Fire Department, c/o Merton Austin, both Danbury 03230.
