Albert L. Catelli, ALEXANDRIA, Va.

Tuesday, April 27, 1999

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Albert L. Catelli, 52, relative of area residents, died Saturday in Concord after a short illness.

He was born in Plattesburg, N.Y., the son of the late Paul and Albertine (LeClerc) Catelli.

He worked for the Virginia Department of Transportation as a bridge and construction inspector for many years.

Three years ago, he became owner and operator of Advanced Visual, a company that rents audio and visual equipment.

He is survived by two brothers, Armand Catelli of Berlin, Conn., and Peter Catelli of Penacook; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 9 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church, 72 S. Main St., Concord.

The Rev. James Watson will be the celebrant. Burial will take place after the Mass at 3 p.m. in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Rouses Point, N.Y.

Elizabeth R. Grimes, NEW LONDON

Tuesday, April 27, 1999

NEW LONDON - Elizabeth R. Grimes, 80, of Newport Road, died yesterday at home after a long illness.

She was born in Lynn, Mass., the daughter of Robert and Isabelle (Trumbull) Blood.

She had lived in New London since 1985, previously living in Concord, Mass., where she and her husband owned and operated the Colonial Inn for 40 years.

She attended Swampscott, Mass., schools and graduated from Brimmer May School in Boston in 1937. She attended Colby Junior College in New London, Class of 1939, and Wellesley College, Class of 1942, and graduated from Boston Nursery Training School, an affiliation of Tufts University.

She taught nursery school in Boston during World War II.

She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of New London and the Kearsarge Area Council on Aging.

She was predeceased by her husband, Loring Grimes Jr.; and by a brother, Robert Blood Jr.

She is survived by two daughters, Sallie MacIsaac of Wilmot and Rebecca Hayden of New London; two sons, Loring Grimes of Gorham, Maine and Matthew Grimes of Sutton; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Lawrence Blood of New Hampton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no calling hours.

A memorial service will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of New London. The Rev. Richard Dutton, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Old Main Street Cemetery, New London.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of New London, P.O. Box 336, New London 03257 or to the Kearsarge Area Council on Aging, P.O. Box 1263, New London 03257.

Chadwick Funeral Service in New London is in charge of arrangements.

Helen Preston, NEW LONDON

Monday, April 26, 1999

NEW LONDON - Graveside services for Helen (Cooke) Preston, 78, who died Feb. 26, will be held Sunday at 11 a.m. in West Part Cemetery, New London, with the Rev. Harold Chase officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Parkinson's Disease Association, 1250 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, N.Y., 10305. Chadwick Funeral Service of New London is in charge of arrangements.

Thomas Vassillion Sr., PENACOOK

Monday, April 26, 1999

PENACOOK - Thomas A. Vassillion Sr., 80, formerly of St. Catherine Street, died Friday at the Veterans Administration Hospital Nursing Home after a long illness.

He was born in Penacook, the son of Anthony and Virginia (Conos) Vassillion, and lived most of his life there. He attended the former Penacook Academy on Main Street in lower Boscawen.

He served in the U.S. Air Corps as a corporal during World War II in the United Kingdom theater.

He was an accountant and was employed at the former Rumford Press in Concord before his retirement.

He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 31 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3266, both in Penacook.

He was predeceased by his wife, Rita (Nurse) Vassillion.

He is survived by three sons, Peter Vassillion of Perland, Texas, Stephen Vassillion and Thomas Vassillion Jr., both of Penacook; one daughter, Rita Wittkamp of Friendswood, Texas; eight grandchildren; one brother, Peter Vassillion of St. Petersburg, Fla.; one sister, Katherine Murphy of Bow; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours are today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Wendell J. Butt Funeral Home.

Interment services will be held in the chapel at the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen tomorrow at 11 a.m. Father Vassillion of the Greek Orthodox Church will officiate.

Charles M. Burke

Monday, April 26, 1999

Charles M. Burke, 76, of Rex Drive, died Saturday at his home after a short illness.

He was born in Cambridge, Mass., the son of James and Mary (Hughes) Burke. He lived in Concord for more than 73 years.

He was a 1940 graduate of St. John's High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a recipient of the Purple Heart.

He was a patrolman for the Concord Police Department from 1946 to 1959. Before his retirement in 1979, he was a clerk with the U.S. Postal Service in Concord for more than 20 years.

He had coached Concord Little League for several years and was a member of American Legion Post No. 21, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1631 and the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 1210.

He was predeceased by his wife, Jacqueline (Tierney) Burke.

He is survived by three sons, Thomas Burke of Penacook, Patrick Burke of North Hollywood, Calif., and Joseph Burke of Penacook; a daughter, Mary Welch of Hancock; seven grandchildren; a brother, Paul Burke of Los Angeles; and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be tomorrow from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Waters Funeral Home, 50 S. Main St., Concord.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church, 72 S. Main St. The Rev. Msgr. James Watson, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Concord.

Donations may be made to the Penacook Community Center, Community Drive, Penacook 03303.

Francis W. Quimby , HILLSBORO

Monday, April 26, 1999

HILLSBORO - Francis W. Quimby, 62, died Saturday while fishing at Beard Brook Road in Hillsboro.

Born in Claremont, the son of the late Herman and Freda (Bunce) Quimby, he lived in Hillsboro for more than 30 years.

Quimby, a U.S. Air Force veteran, retired from Osram Sylvania in Hillsboro in 1997, after many years of service.

He was a 1955 graduate of Stevens High School in Claremont.

Quimby was predeceased by his wife, Janice (Barclay) Quimby in 1993.

He is survived by three sons, Michael Quimby of Manchester, Keith Quimby of Wake Forest, N.C., and Francis E. Quimby of Concord; one daughter, Catherine Quimby of Concord; one brother, Donald Quimby of Parkston, S.D.; two sisters, Shirley Karr of Newport and Louise Chambers of Claremont; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held tomorrow from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Holt-Woodbury Funeral Home, 32 School St., Hillsboro. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Holt-Woodbury. The Rev. Paul Gaylord, pastor of the Hillsboro Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Harvey Memorial Cemetery in Hillsboro.

Donations may be made in his name to the Hillsboro Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 350, Hillsboro 03244.

Beverly Brady, NEW LONDON

Monday, April 26, 1999

NEW LONDON - Memorial services for Beverly (Nichols) Brady, 62, who died Feb. 10, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the First Baptist Church of New London. The Rev. Richard Dutton, pastor, will officiate.

John D. Cassidy Sr.

Saturday, April 24, 1999

John D. Cassidy Sr., 87, of Bradley Street, died yesterday at Healthsouth Rehabilitation Hospital after a short illness.

He was born in Concord, the son of the late Peter and Bridget (Mannion) Cassidy. He was a 1929 graduate of Concord High School.

He worked as supervisor of the billing department at Blue Cross Blue Shield for several years, and before retiring in 1978 he was an auditor for the New Hampshire Treasurer's Office.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 112 and the Carmel Guild.

He was a communicant of St. Peter's Church.

He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy (McCarthy) Cassidy.

He is survived by four sons, John Cassidy Jr., Thomas Cassidy, James Cassidy and Joseph Cassidy; six grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Waters Funeral Home, 50 S. Main St., Concord.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Peter's Church, 135 N. Main St., Concord. The Rev. Mitchell Wanat, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will take place after the Mass in Calvary Cemetery.

Donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, c/o St. Peter's Church of CRVNA, P.O. Box 1797, Concord 03302-1797.

Mitchell Backon

WOODBURY, Conn. - Mitchell Backon, 71, a former Concord resident, died Thursday at Yale-New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Conn.

He was born in New York City, the son of Esther (Everett) and Gustav Backon.

He lived in Concord from 1957 to 1978, during which time he worked as the vice president of the Rumford Press. He retired as a consultant for the printing industry.

He was a U.S. Army veteran.

In addition to his mother of Fairfield, Conn., he is survived by his wife, Bernice (Katz) Backon; two sons, Marc Backon of Westport, Conn., and Joel Backon of Wallingford, Conn.; a daughter, Abbi Bruce of Richmond, Va.; and four grandchildren.

Burial will be in Mt. Ararat Cemetery, Farmingdale, Long Island, N.Y.

The family will be sitting Shiva at the home of Marc Backon, 5 Sandhopper Trail, Westoport, Conn., today, tomorrow and Monday after 3 p.m.

Donations may be made to the Danbury Dialysis Fund, Danbury Hospital, 24 Hospital Ave., Danbury, Conn. 06810, or to the B'Nai Israel Building Fund, 122 S. Pomperaug Ave., Woodbury, Conn. 06798.

The Munson-Lovetere Funeral home in Woodbury, Conn., is in charge of arrangements.

Maude C. Fuller

PITTSFIELD - Maude C. Fuller, 85, of Main Street, died Thursday at the New Hampshire Odd Fellows Home after a short illness.

She was born in Rose Blanche, Newfoundland, Canada, the daughter of Samuel and Alice (Upshaw) Collier. She was raised in Newfoundland, moving to New Hampshire in 1930.

She lived in Topsfield, Mass., for several years and moved to Pittsfield in 1988.

She was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, and was a volunteer at the Pittsfield Senior Center, where she worked preparing Meals on Wheels.

She was predeceased by her husband, Clarence Fuller.

She is survived by a son, Chester Fuller of Epsom; a granddaughter, Rebekkah Jackson of Epsom; a brother, William "Sandy" Collier of Halifax, Nova Scotia; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held tomorrow from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Perkins Funeral Home, 60 Main St., Pittsfield.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in St. Stephen's Church. The Rev. John Allen, rector, will officiate. Burial will be held after the service in Floral Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pittsfield Meals on Wheels Program, Pittsfield Community Center, Pittsfield 03263, or to St. Stephen's Church.
