Donald L. Harper, FLORIDA

Monday, December 13, 1999

FLORIDA - Donald L. Harper, 64, of Mockingbird Avenue, Ft. Pierce, Fla., died Nov. 29 at Longwood Hospital in Florida.

He was born Lakeport, the son of the late William and Caroline (Lyman) Harper. He was a 1956 graduate of Laconia High School, where he was on the 1954 State Champion Track Team, the 1955 All State Basketball Team, and the football team. He lived in the Laconia area until he moved to Florida in the late 1960s.

He was the owner of Harp's Restaurant in Belmont with his late wife Normalee for many years.

He is survived by four daughters, Sandra Harper of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Joyce Harper of Belmont, Sheryl Paulin of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Judith Harper of Margate, Fla.; four grandchildren, a brother, Robert Harper of Belmont; a sister, Louise Harper of Lakeport; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by close friends Audrey Byers of Ft. Pierce, Fla., and Stanley Moulton of Alton.

He was predeceased by his wife, Normalee (Casey) Harper, in 1996; and by siblings William Harper, Forrest Harper and Arline Neal.

There are no calling hours. Friends are invited to attend graveside services on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Bayside Cemetery in Laconia, with the Rev. David Roones, pastor of the United Baptist Church of Lakeport, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the NH Humane Society, 1305 Meredith Center Road, Laconia 03246.

The Dewhirst Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Robert J. Roy

Monday, October 25, 1999

Graveside services for Robert Roy, who died Oct. 9, will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen.

Roy will be presented military honors from a troop from Fort Drum in New York.

The Rev. W. Timothy Thibeault of the Immaculate Conception Church in Penacook will officiate.

Quarrier H. Wheat

Sunday, October 24, 1999

Quarrier H. Wheat, 94, of Pleasant Street, formerly of Wheeling, W. Va., died Friday at the New Hampshire Odd Fellows Home.

She was born in Wheeling, W. Va., the daughter of Harry and Blanche (Moffat) Hazlett. She was a member of the St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Wheeling. She was also president of the Garden Club and Garden Study Club of Wheeling and a charter member of the JR. League Inc.

She was also a member of the Wheeling Country Club and the Oglebay Institute.

She was predeceased by her husband, George Wheat in 1991, and two brothers, Arch and Howard Hazlett.

Wheat is survived by two daughters, Quarrier Turton of Hopkinton and Mary Fowler of Summerfield, N.C.; four grandchildren, Ellen Porter of Hopkinton, Mary Ams of Dorset, Vt., Harry Turton Jr. of Richmond, Va., and Leslie Pugh of Stafford, Va.; six great-grandchildren; and one nephew, Howard Hazlett of Plain Oak, Texas.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Wheeling, W.Va.

The Bennett Funeral Home, 209 North Main St., Concord, is in charge of the arrangements.

John Wigboldus, SUTTON

Sunday, October 24, 1999

SUTTON - John "Wiggy" Wigboldus, 77, of Shaker Street, died Thursday at his home from a sudden illness.

He was born in Clifton, N.J., the son of Jacob and Lena (VanderWiele) Wigboldus. During World War II, he served in the Air Force in the European and African theaters.

Before moving to Sutton 20 years ago, Wigboldus lived in Midland Park, N.J., and in Mississippi.

He worked as a contract administrator for many large building construction projects while employed at Minnema Construction in New Jersey, Briscoe Construction in New Jersey and Mississippi, and ProCon Construction in New Hampshire. After retiring from ProCon in 1988, he worked as a private consultant in the construction industry.

He was an avid model railroad enthusiast, wood craftsman and furniture maker.

He was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie, in 1997.

He is survived by a son, John Wigboldus of Wauwatosa, Wis.; a granddaughter, Heather Wigboldus of Wauwatosa; a step-son, Donald Rose of North Haledon, N.J.; three step-daughters, Barbara Touw of Hawthorne, N.J., Kathleen DenBreejen of Kinnelon, N.J., and Merrill Kirby of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; nine step-grandchildren; a brother, Jacob Wigboldus of Clifton, N.J.; and a sister, Elizabeth Gorit of Lake Hopatcong, N.J.

Friends may call tomorrow at the Chadwick Funeral Home, 174 Main St., New London, tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A prayer service will be conducted at 7 p.m. tomorrow, with Pastor Kenneth Sanders of the Westmoreland Reformed Bible Church officiating. Burial will be in Cresthaven Cemetery in Clifton, N.J., on Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, New England Affiliate, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701-4688.

George J. Bill, BOSCAWEN

Sunday, October 24, 1999

BOSCAWEN - George Joseph Bill, 68, of Queen Street died at his home Friday after a prolonged illness.

He was born in Milford, the son of Edwin and Germaine Bill. He lived in Concord before moving to Boscawen 23 years ago.

He worked for Page Belting Co. for 30 years and also worked for Hoyt Electrical Co. for 12 years before retiring in 1986.

He was a member of St. Peter's Church, American Legion Post 31, the Eagles Club of Concord and the Moose Club.

He is survived by three sons, Timothy Bill of Concord, Alfred Bill of Gilford and Richard Bill of Boscawen; four daughters, Tammy Dukette of Boscawen, Theresa Jameson of Wilmot, Kathleen Lewers of Cleveland, Ohio, and Roxanne LaValley of Pittsfield; an aunt, Rose Renee of Manchester; 17 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends and relatives may call at the Wendell J. Butt Funeral Home in Penacook tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Graveside services will be held in Blossom Hill Cemetery on Tuesday at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to help defray funeral expenses may be made in his name to the Wendell J. Butt Funeral Home in care of Helene Bourque, 42 Washington St., Penacook 03303.

Roberta L. Frost

Sunday, October 24, 1999

Roberta L. Frost, 75, of Pleasant Street, died Friday at the New Hampshire Odd Fellows Home.

She was born in Haverhill, the daughter of Frederick and Ethel (Morris) Lee. She graduated from Haverhill Academy in 1942 and Concord Business College in 1943.

She worked for the National State Capitol Bank in Concord, the Etna Life Insurance Company of Concord for 29 years, and the United Way of Concord, retiring in 1989 after 13 years.

She was a member of the Daniel Webster Grange for three years and the Pembroke Grange No. 111 for 44 years, where she was a past Master, Lady Assistant Steward and Chaplain. She was also a member of the Pomona Grange No. 12 and the state Grange.

She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church of Concord, where she was part of the Wesleyan Guild.

She enjoyed bowling and received several trophies. She also enjoyed cooking and spectator sports, particularly baseball and basketball.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Harold Frost of Pembroke; a sister, Marjorie Lee of Meredith; cousins; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held tomorrow from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Bennett Funeral Home, 209 North Main St., Concord.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 79 Clinton St., Concord, with the Rev. Joel Guillmette officiating. Burial services will be held at Courser Hill Cemetery in Webster.

Gordon J. Sargent, FRANKLIN

Friday, October 22, 1999

FRANKLIN - Gordon J. Sargent, 72, of Pearl Street, died yesterday at Franklin Regional Hospital.

He was born in Franklin, the son of Earl and Cecilia (Bergeron) Sargent. He was a lifelong resident of Franklin and graduated from Franklin High School in 1945. He later attended the Midwest School of Building Trades in Bloomington, Ill.

He served as a private first class in the Marine Corps during World War II.

He worked in textile mills in Rochester and Franklin. He was employed later as a custodian at Franklin High School and as the head custodian at the Bessie Rowell Elementary School, retiring in 1991.

He was a co-founder of Hannan's Marauders. He was also a drummer for the Sons of American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps and the Franklin Cavaliers. Years ago he was part of the Civil Air Defense program.

He was a past member of the Franklin Lodge of Elks No. 1280 and the Sons of Legion in Franklin.

He was a communicant of St. Paul Church in Franklin. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Joyce (Hilliker) Sargent of Franklin; his children, Scott Sargent of Franklin; Larry Hannan of Bristol, Ginger Hutchins of Lugoff, S.C., and Brent Hannan of Northfield; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Earl Sargent of Franklin; and seven nephews.

Calling hours will be held tomorrow from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Thibault-Neun Funeral Home, 143 Franklin St., Franklin.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Paul Church. Burial will be in Franklin Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, in care of Margaret Beaupew, 328 Prospect St., Franklin 03235.

Avis Duckworth, GOFFSTOWN

Friday, October 22, 1999

GOFFSTOWN - Avis Duckworth, 73, of Spring Street, a former state librarian, died Thursday at Harborside Healthcare in Bedford.

She was born in Manchester, the daughter of Francis and Rachel (Newton) McCrillis. She spent her childhood in Manchester and Goffstown and attended local schools.

She graduated in 1944 from Manchester High School Central. She was a violinist with the Goffstown High School orchestra and the New Hampshire Philharmonic during her high school years. She also played the piano and bugle.

She earned a bachelor's degree in 1948 from the University of Michigan, where she was a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority and the Sigma Alpha Iota International honorary music fraternity.

After working as a music therapist at Pilgrim State Hospital in New York, she enrolled in the library science department at Simmons College in Boston and earned her master's degree in library science in 1951.

She began her library career in the art and music room at the Manchester City Library and eventually took a job cataloging music at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.

After returning to New Hampshire in 1956, she worked as the head librarian at Grenier Air Base and later at the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston.

She moved to Long Island, N.Y., in 1961 and helped start up the South Huntington Public Library, where she served six years as library director. She also completed her doctoral degree in library administration at Columbia University in New York City.

She returned to New Hampshire in 1967 and became the director of adult services at the Manchester City Library, a position she held until 1971. She also did part-time library work for the Derryfield School.

In 1971, she became assistant librarian for the New Hampshire State Library. In 1976, she was named state librarian and held that position until she retired in 1981.

During her tenure as state librarian, she was involved in many conferences, including the White House Conference on Library and Information Services.

After her retirement, she worked in the telemarketing field for a variety of groups and businesses including the New Hampshire Council on Child Abuse and the West Manchester Lions Club. She did survey work for the University of Michigan and the presidential campaign of former senator John Glenn.

She was employed in phone sales by Olan Mills, the American Automobile Association, The Union Leader and Telemark Management Inc.

She was a member of Common Cause, the American Library Association and the New Boston chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She enjoyed gardening, arts and fix-it projects at home. She loved jazz music, country fairs, history, genealogy, her cats and the Boston Red Sox.

Survivors include her daughter, Anne Chase of Maynard, Mass.; her granddaughter, Adelpha Abrahamson-Larkin of Waltham, Mass.; her sister, Frances Johnson of Lee; cousins, nieces and a nephew.

There are no calling hours.

A graveside funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Westlawn Cemetery in Goffstown. The Rev. Pete Lovejoy, pastor of the Goffstown Congregational Church, will officiate.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

The French & Rising Funeral Home in Goffstown is in charge of the arrangements.
