Edward W.W. Lewis, HENNIKER

Thursday, October 21, 1999

HENNIKER - The Rev. Dr. Edward W.W. Lewis, 84, died Oct. 11, after falling at home.

He was born in Middleport, Ohio, the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Lewis.

He graduated from Middleport, Ohio, High School, Ohio University and Andover Newton Theological Seminar, and he attended Columbia University and Harvard University.

He earned several degrees, including a master of science degree, a master of arts degree and a master of theology degree. His ordination into the ministry was at Middleport, Ohio, First Baptist Church in 1939, and his parishes have been in Ohio, Southboro, Mass., Canton, Mass., Norwich, Conn., Southport, Conn., New York City and St. Joseph, Mich.

After retiring, he served as an interim minister in Winston-Salem, N.C.

During his active ministry, he traveled extensively and spoke to many groups. He was responsible for sending out missionaries from the churches he served. He was recently recognized by the New Hampshire Conference of the United Church of Christ for the 60th anniversary of his ordination.

He valued education, and has helped several students attend college through scholarships set up in Meigs County, Ohio, Henniker and Elon College, N.C. He was honored as the Meigs County, Ohio Man of the Year in 1979.

In addition to the ministry, his interests included numismatics, cribbage and golf.

He became life member No. 214 of the American Numismatic Association and maintained an interest in the subject throughout his life.

He was an avid cribbage player for many years and received the Laurence Bounds Award at the National Open Cribbage Tournament for exemplary sportsmanship in 1987.

He won the Men's Senior Club Championship Golf Tournament three times at the Duston Country Club in Hopkinton.

He was predeceased by three brothers, Art "Pappy" Lewis, Harold Lewis and Larry Lewis; and by four sisters, Katherine Buckner, Dorothy Stewart, Margaret Bowen and Betty Bobo.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Judith Andress; three sons, E. Turner Lewis of Wakefield, Mass., Mark Lewis of Orange, Conn., and Matthew Lewis of Amherst, Mass.; a daughter, Dee Lewis of Greenwich, Conn.; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Norma Runyon of Columbus, Ohio; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

A private ceremony will be held.

Kir Kuklowsky

Thursday, October 21, 1999

Kir Kuklowsky, 86, died yesterday at his Pillsbury Street home.

He and his wife, Elizabeth, came to America in 1950 and became American citizens in 1955. They lived in New Jersey for many years, and lived in North Carolina before moving to Concord three years ago.

He was a gifted composer, whose musical compositions were internationally known. He is listed in the Ukranian Encyclopedia of Music.

He built his own home in New Jersey.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Alichewsky) Kuklowsky of Concord; two sons, Frederick Kuklowsky of Los Angeles and Edgar Kuklowsky of Concord; and three grandchildren.

There are no calling hours.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church in Concord.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John the Evangelist Church, 72 S. Main St., Concord 03301.

Affordable Funeral and Cremation Services Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

John C. Mansell, FORT PIERCE, Fla.

Thursday, October 21, 1999

FORT PIERCE, Fla. - John "Jack" C. Mansell, 82, a former area resident and the relative of area residents, died Oct. 13 at home.

A native of Maplewood, N.J., he also lived in Mentor, Ohio, and Andover before moving to Florida.

He was a veteran of World War II, who served with the Navy in the Pacific aboard the USS Cooper and the USS Boxer. He was awarded a Purple Heart.

He graduated from Duke University in 1938 and worked as a manufacturer's representative.

He was an avid tennis and bridge player.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Polly Mansell of Fort Pierce, Fla.; a son, Derek Mansell of Segovia, Spain; two daughters, Anne Moodey of Wilmot and Lee Carvalho of Andover; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Alfred S. Coren, PORTSMOUTH

Thursday, October 21, 1999

PORTSMOUTH - Alfred S. Coren, 83, of Middle Road, died Tuesday at home.

He was born in Boston, the son of Hyman and Hanna (Levine) Coren.

He spent his early years in Boston, and he graduated from Andover High School.

He earned an associate's degree in computer science from Massachusetts Bay Community College.

He lived in Needham, Mass., from 1955-1997, when he moved to Portsmouth.

He was the owner and operator of Steval Service in Brookline, Mass., from 1953-1981, and was a member of the Inventors Association of Massachusetts. He held two U.S. patents.

He was a long-time town meeting member in Needham, Mass., a former member of the Needham, Mass., Commission on Disabilities, and a former member of the board and volunteer for Needham Community Council, a former volunteer for the Glover Deaconess Hospital in Needham, Mass. He was a 50-year member of the Kearsarge Masonic Lodge in Andover.

He received the Needham, Mass., Exchange Club Award for Community Service.

He was predeceased by his wife, Florence (MacKenzie) Coren in 1986.

He is survived by two sons, Peter Coren of Portsmouth and Stephen Coren of Cambridge, Mass.; and two grandsons, Nicholas and Noah.

Graveside services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in Proctor Cemetery, Andover.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Needham Community Council, Needham, Mass. 02192.

Chadwick Funeral Service in New London is in charge of arrangements.

Mamie B. Hines

Thursday, October 21, 1999

Mamie B. Hines, 84, of Sewalls Falls Road, died yesterday at Concord Hospital.

She was the daughter of Archie and Lutie (Sleeper) Bucklin.

She was a graduate of Margaret Pillsbury Nursing School in Concord.

She was a member of the Bow Garden Club, where she won an award for flower arranging.

She was predeceased by her husband, Jason Hines, who served on the Concord Police Department for 22 years and died in 1982; a brother, Almon Bucklin; and a sister, Lottie Schofield.

She is survived by a niece, Bonnie Fletcher of Bristol.

Private graveside services will be held in Maple Grove Cemetery.

The Bennett Funeral Home in Concord is in charge of arrangements.

Barbara M. Murphy, DOVER

Thursday, October 21, 1999

DOVER - Barbara M. Murphy, 85, a former area resident, died yesterday at Langdon Place.

She was born in Grafton, Vt., the daughter of Frank and Madeline (Thornton) Wilkinson. She grew up in Dover, and was a graduate of Dover High School.

She lived in Berwick Maine from 1941-1948, when she moved to Penacook. She returned to the Dover area in 1976.

She had a summer camp at Strafford Bow Lake for many years.

She was predeceased by her husband, Peter Murphy, who died in 1995.

She is survived by several cousins, including Ruth Gray of Dover, Peg Poulin of York Beach, Maine, and Raymond Murphy of Groton, Mass.

There are no calling hours.

Services will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m. in the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., Dover. Burial will take place after the services in St. Mary New Cemetery.

Lucinda B. Carson

Thursday, October 21, 1999

Lucinda B. Carson, 68, of Mountain Road, died Tuesday at Concord Hospital.

She was born in Haverhill, Mass., the daughter of Wilbur and Luella (Locke) Boyden.

She worked as an assembler at Beede's Electric for several years.

She was predeceased by her husband, Amos Carson, who died in May.

She is survived by two sons, Robert Carson of Epsom and William Carson of Boscawen; four daughters, Linda Jean of Hill, Ann Currier of Concord, Sarah Carson of Concord and Eva Shattuck of Penacook; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Bennett Funeral Home, 209 N. Main St., Concord.

Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the chapel at the New Hampshire Veteran's Cemetery in Boscawen. The Rev. John Johnson will officiate.

Ralph A. Ross, BEDFORD, Mass.

Friday, March 10, 2000

BEDFORD, Mass. - Ralph A. Ross, 91, formerly of Cambridge, Mass., and Antrim, died yesterday at the Carleton-Willard Village in Bedford, Mass.

He was a graduate of Boston Latin School, Harvard College and Harvard Medical School.

He practiced pediatrics for more than 35 years in Cambridge, Mass.

He was involved with the Douglas A. Thorn Clinic, the Dedham (Mass.) Visiting Nurses Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Adoption. He was on the staff at Massachusetts General Hospital and the Mount Auburn Hospital.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Alice (Rosenbaum) Ross; two sons, David Ross of Hopkinton and Frederick Ross of Amity, Ore.; a daughter, Alice Coda of Hopkinton; two sisters, Ruth Rosenbaum of Newton, Mass., and Elanor Simon of Portland, Ore.; five grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held Monday at 2:30 p.m. at the Carleton-Willard Village, 100 Old Billerica Road, Bedford, Mass.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

The Rogers Funeral Home of Cambridge, Mass., is in charge of arrangements.
