Ethel H. Gagnon, GOFFSTOWN

Friday, March 10, 2000

GOFFSTOWN - Ethel H. Gagnon, 78, of Reed Street, died Wednesday at Elliot Hospital in Manchester.

She was born in New Boston, the daughter of Frank and Lucy (Butterfield) Tower. She lived in New Boston for most of her life before moving to Goffstown two years ago.

She was a graduate of the Malden (Mass.) Hospital School of Nursing.

She worked for many years as a registered nurse at Moore General Hospital and the Catholic Medical Center.

She was a member of the New Boston Community Church, the New Boston Historical Society, the Meeting House Gang, Primetime and the New Boston Community Church Mizpah Circle.

She also had served as a volunteer for the Catholic Medical Center.

She was predeceased by her husband, Howard Gagnon, in 1988.

She is survived by two sons, James Gagnon of Oakmont, Pa., and Jack Gagnon of Boscawen; three daughters, Justine Dodge of Derry, Joyce Smith of Montgomery Village, Md., and Jarilyn Perron of Jeffersonville, Vt.; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Edith Hooper of Melrose, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held tomorrow from 7 to 9 p.m. at the French & Rising Funeral Home, 17 S. Mast St., Goffstown.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at the New Boston Community Church. The Rev. Robert Woodland will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association, 456 Beech St., Manchester 03103.

Walter G. Purinton

Walter G. "Tink" Purinton, 92, of South Street in Concord, died yesterday at Concord Hospital after a long illness.

He was born in West Epping, the son of George and Blanche (Meserve) Purinton.

He attended Raymond schools and graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1930 with a degree in civil engineering.

During World War II, he served in the Admiralty Islands and the Philippines with CBMU 63 of the Navy Seabees as an executive officer and officer-in-charge. He retired from the Naval Reserve in 1967 as a lieutenant commander.

During the Depression, he was employed by the American Telephone and Telegraph Co. In 1934, he worked as a timekeeper with the bridge maintenance division of the state of New Hampshire.

For many years he served as a specialist in bridge construction and maintenance. He was named assistant turnpike construction engineer in 1953 and assisted in the completion of the Everett and Spaulding turnpikes. He also served as a district project engineer before being appointed as an assistant special services engineer in 1965. He retired from state service in 1970.

He was a member of the South Congregational Church, the Good Roads Association, the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests and the Audubon Society. He was a 50-year member of the Eureka Lodge No. 70, F&AM. He was also a charter member of the Admiralty Islands Post No. 4103 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was a skilled craftsman who enjoyed working outdoors, especially at his second home on Lake Winnesquam.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Arlene (Hulbert) Purinton of Concord; two daughters, Joyce Prowse of Concord and Linda Stewart of Sarasota, Fla.; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bennett Funeral Home, 209 N. Main St., Concord.

The Eureka Lodge No. 70 will perform Masonic memorial services Sunday at 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Luther Durgin, interim pastor of the South Congregational Church, will officiate.

Burial will be held in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Raymond.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Gail Singer Memorial Building, 360 Route 101, Bedford 03110.

Ruth H. Youngjohn, LACONIA

Thursday, March 9, 2000

LACONIA - Ruth H. Youngjohn, 89, formerly of Edge of Woods in Gilford, died yesterday at the Belknap County Nursing Home.

She was born in Inwood, Long Island, N.Y., the daughter of Paul and Emilie (Metzger) Hopf. She was a longtime resident of the Laconia/Gilford area.

She was a retired executive secretary.

She was a member of the Gilford Community Church.

She was predeceased by her husband, Harry Youngjohn, in 1978.

There are no survivors.

Graveside services will be held in the spring at the Bayside Cemetery in Laconia. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Gilford Community Church, 19 Potter Hill Road, Gilford.

The Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home of Laconia is in charge of arrangements.

Libby A. Green, VACAVILLE, Calif.

Thursday, March 9, 2000

VACAVILLE, Calif. - Libby A. Green, 43, died Sunday at home as the result of a double homicide that also claimed the life of her husband, Dennis Green.

She was born in New Hampton, the daughter of William Sr. and Mary (Stevens) Carlson. She lived in the Vacaville, Calif., area for most of her adult life.

She attended school in New Hampton and graduated from Newfound Area High School in Bristol. She also attended the University of New Hampshire in Durham.

She was predeceased by a brother, Sydney Carlson.

She is survived by a son, Fredrick Thieke of Vacaville, Calif; two brothers, William Carlson of Tilton and Carl Carlson of Bear Cave, Ky.; two sisters, Beverly Hensley of Boscawen and Donna Irving of Bristol; and many nieces, nephews, friends and relatives in the Bristol area.

Services will be held in Virginia City, Nev., at the convenience of the family.

Joan A. Dugrenier, DUNBARTON

DUNBARTON - Joan A. Dugrenier, 65, of Stark Highway North, died Monday at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston after a sudden illness.

She was born in Dunbarton, the daughter Frank and Eleanor (Lamora) Woodbury of Orlando, Fla. She lived in Dunbarton all of her life.

She was employed by the state of New Hampshire Department of Revenue for many years, retiring five years ago.

She worked as a volunteer for the Dunbarton Elementary School and for the Democratic Party on the Clinton and Shaheen campaigns. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.

In addition to her mother Eleanor Herr of Orlando, Fla., she is survived by her husband of 47 years, David Dugrenier of Dunbarton; a son, David Dugrenier of Dunbarton; a daughter, Kathy Searles of Hillsboro; four grandchildren; two sisters, June Atkin of Loudon and Susan Sherman of Orlando, Fla.; several nieces and nephews.

There will be no visiting hours. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice. The Waters Funeral Home of Concord is in charge of the arrangements.

Lois C. Curtis, NASHUA

NASHUA - Lois C. Curtis, 65, of Gloucester Lane, the relative of area residents, died Monday at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua.

She was born in Oak Park, Ill., the daughter of Fred and Alice (Luth) Woerthwein. She was a 1952 graduate of Lyons Township High School in LaGrange, Ill., and a 1956 graduate of Grinnell College in Iowa.

She was employed by Wang Laboratories.

In addition to her parents of Bow, she is survived by a brother, Kenneth Woerthwein of Jacobus, Pa.; two sisters, Joyce Hill of Bow and Karen Peckitt of Wildwood, Mo.; a grandson; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two sons, Christopher Curtis, who died in 1987, and Russell Curtis, who died in 1994; and a daughter, Lisa Curtis, who died in 1980.

Services are private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association, P.O. Box 1014, Manchester 03101.

The Bennett Funeral Home of Concord is in charge of arrangements.

William J. Leighton, BOSCAWEN

BOSCAWEN - William J. Leighton, 60, died Saturday at Merrimack County Nursing Home.

He was born in Maine and had lived in New Hampshire for several years.

He is survived by his good friend, Beatrice Slavin, and her family.

There are no visiting hours and services will be private.

The Waters Funeral Home of Concord is in charge of arrangements.

Estelle R. Kenney, BOW

BOW - Estelle R. Kenney, 84, of Ridgewood Drive in Bow, died Friday at the Merrimack County Nursing Home after a period of failing health.

She was born in Groveton, the daughter of Gideon and Emma (Goyette) LaPointe.

She was predeceased by her husband, Edward Kenney; and a daughter, Mary Ellen.

She is survived by two sons, Robert Kenney of Templeton, Mass., and Edward Kenney of Warner; a brother, Leo Serbian of Claremont; two sisters, Florence and Rena, both of West Palm, Fla.; three grandchildren, Charlene Cesarini and Daniel Kenney, both of Bow, and Paul Kenney of Boston; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A special memorial service will be held at a later date.

Harriet Waters, POMPANO BEACH, Fla.

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. - Harriet Waters, 87, a former New London resident, died Friday in Florida.

She was born in Newport, the daughter of Wesley and Georgia (Ring) Roach.

She taught school in New York and had created a department of cosmetology for a vocational technical school in New York.

While she lived in New London, she had worked as a hairdresser for Elizabeth Nichols.

She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Connor of Avon, Mass.; two granddaughters; two great-grandsons; and nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held in the spring in the Old Grantham Cemetery in Grantham.
