Grace F. Lewis, LACONIA

Sunday, March 5, 2000

LACONIA - Grace F. Lewis, 68, of Belknap County Nursing Home and formerly of Madison Street, died Friday at the Lakes Region General Hospital.

She was born in Laconia, the daughter of Arthur and Kilda (Turcotte) Sewell and was a lifelong resident of Laconia.

She was employed as a bookkeeper at A.W. Sewell for many years.

She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Lakes Church.

She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Lewis Jr., in 1998; and her son, John Lewis, in 1999.

She is survived by two sons, Arthur Lewis III of Cheshire, Mass., and Timothy Lewis of Sanbornton; five grandchildren; a brother, W. Peter Sewell of Laconia; two sisters, Ruth Breton of Gilford and Priscilla Smith of Pine Ridge, Fla.; and several nephews and nieces.

Calling hours will be held tomorrow from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant St., Laconia, using the carriage house entrance

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of the Lakes Church. The Rev. George Soberick, pastor of the church, will officiate.

Burial will be held in the spring at the Elm Hill Cemetery in Center Sandwich.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Belknap County Nursing Home Music Fund, 30 County Drive, Laconia 03246.

Grace F. Lewis, LACONIA

LACONIA - Calling hours for Grace F. Lewis, 68, of Belknap County Nursing Home and formerly of Madison Street, who died March 3, will be held Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant St. in Laconia.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lakes Church. The Rev. George Soberick will officiate.

Burial will be held in the spring at Elm Hill Cemetery in Center Sandwich.

Due to a change in arrangements by the funeral home, the dates previously published for the services were inaccurate.

Eva M. Paige, GILMANTON

Sunday, March 5, 2000

GILMANTON - Eva M. Paige, 66, of Smith Meeting House Road and formerly of Gilford, died Thursday at her home after a long illness.

She was born in Munich, Germany, the daughter of Fritz Lehner and Maria Schroeder.

She came to the Laconia area in 1950.

She was involved in raising and showing champion dogs for many years in the Lakes Region.

She was also involved in her husband's business at Madeira USA in Laconia.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Paige of Gilmanton; a son, Ronald Paige of Key West, Fla.; three daughters, Linda Perkins of Lakeport, Lori Paige of Easthampton, Mass., and Michelle Dion of Gilmanton; eight grandchildren; a sister, Inge Kropp of Sacramento, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Norma Roberts of Belmont; and several nieces and nephews.

Private services were held at the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home in Laconia. Burial will be held at South Road Cemetery in Belmont.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Community Health and Hospice, 780 N. Main St., Laconia 03246.

Paul K. Vahey, LOWELL, Mass.

Saturday, March 4, 2000

LOWELL, Mass. - Paul K. Vahey, 39, a former resident of Bow, died yesterday in Needham, Mass.

He was the son of Jane (Fagan) and Paul Vahey Sr.

He graduated from Needham (Mass.) High School in 1979 and worked as a long-distance transporter for C.F.K. Freight.

He is survived by his stepmother, Mary Claire (Clancy) Vahey of Bow; a sister, Jaynemarie Vahey of Bow; his aunt and godmother, Helen Fagan of Needham, Mass.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Calling hours will be held tomorrow from 4 to 7 p.m. and Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Walsh-Fennelly Funeral Home, 20 High St., Waltham, Mass.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the funeral home. A funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. at St. Bartholomew's Church in Needham, Mass.

Burial will be held in the Newton Cemetery in Newton, Mass.

Clarence E. Heath

Friday, March 3, 2000

Clarence E. Heath, 74, of Cherry Street in Concord, died Tuesday at the New Hampshire Veterans Home in Tilton.

He was born in Concord, the son of Elmer and Bertha (Haines) Heath. He graduated from Concord High School.

He served with the U.S. Army during World War II.

He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 25 years, retiring in 1981.

He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Bektash Temple Shrine and the Bektash Temple Drum Corps.

He was a member of the postal union and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a former Cub Scout leader and was an active board member of the Boy Scouts of America.

He was a member of the United Baptist Church.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Richard Heath and Elmer Heath II.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian (Caldwell) Heath of Concord; a son, Stephen Heath of Ashland; two daughters, Carole Riley and Gayle Moloney, both of Concord; eight grandchildren; a brother, William Heath of Concord; and a sister, May Lesmerises of Tampa, Fla.

Calling hours will be held Monday from 11 a.m. to noon at the Bennett Funeral Home, 209 N. Main St., Concord.

A memorial service will be held Monday at noon at the funeral home. The Rev. John Johnson will officiate.

Burial will follow at 1 p.m. at the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen.

Memorial donations may be made to the New Hampshire Veterans Home, P.O. Box 229, Tilton 03276.

Irene C. Clark, NORTHFIELD

Friday, March 3, 2000

NORTHFIELD - Irene C. Clark, 54, of Concord Road, died Wednesday at Franklin Regional Hospital after a long illness.

She was born in Grimsby, England, the daughter of Albert and Evelyn (Smallwood) Socha. She lived in Webster, Mass., for many years and had lived in Northfield for more than 20 years.

She received her bachelor's degree in psychology from Quinsigamond Community College.

She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Richard "Rick" Clark of Northfield; two daughters, Lori Copp of Tilton and Dina Clark of Northfield; and five grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home on Franklin-Tilton Road in Tilton. Her father-in-law, Daniel Clark, will lead a Time of Remembrance.

Burial will be held in the spring in St. Joseph Polish Cemetery in Webster, Mass.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice, Franklin Visiting Nurse Association, 75 Chestnut St., Franklin 03235.

Clara R. Smith, WINDHAM

Friday, March 3, 2000

WINDHAM - Clara R. "Nickie" Smith, 73, died yesterday at Elliot Hospital in Manchester.

She was born in Bedminster, Pa., and grew up in Vineland, N.J., where she attended school. She had lived in Windham for 20 years, moving there from Danvers, Mass.

She was a retired homemaker who enjoyed skiing, tennis and traveling.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Verne Smith of Windham; three daughters, Bonnie Cummings of Laconia, Virginia Wright of Boscawen and Darlene Flateau of Morrisonville, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Calling hours will be held Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home Chapel, 214 Main St., Salem.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home's chapel.

Memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia Foundation, 180 Rustcraft Road, Dedham, Mass. 02026.

Ralph E. Bauman, GILFORD

Thursday, March 2, 2000

GILFORD - Ralph E. Bauman, 64, of Hillside Drive and formerly of Londonderry, died Tuesday at home.

He was born in Gloucester, Mass., the son of Charles and Josephine (Tognazzi) Bauman.

He graduated from Gloucester (Mass.) High School and received his bachelor's degree in 1962 in electrical engineering from Northeastern University in Boston.

He served with the U.S. Navy for four years on the USS Diablo.

He worked for Lockheed Sanders for 30 years as an electrical engineer. He was also the co-author of six books and developed two patents for microwave couplers and delay lines.

He was a member of IEEE, the Professional Group of Microwave Theory and Technique, the Old Crows and Eta Kappa Nu.

He was a communicant of St. Joseph Church in Laconia and belonged to the Lions Club and the Knights of Columbus. He was also an Eucharistic minister.

He enjoyed boating, golfing, skiing, biking, racquetball and playing cards.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Yvette (Valliere) Bauman of Gilford; three sons, Ralph Bauman Jr. of Laconia, Daryl Carr of Enid, Okla., and Alan Davie of Boston; five daughters, Carol Travers of Keene, Loretta Webster of Concord, Darlene Loso of Epsom, Heidi O'Connell of Auburn and Rebecca Bauman of Gilford; 13 grandchildren; a sister, Dee Birney of Wichita, Kan.; and nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant St., Laconia.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 30 Church St., Laconia. The Rev. Gary Kosmowski will officiate.

Burial will be held tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. at Blossom Hill Cemetery in Concord.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Community Health & Hospice, 780 N. Main St., Laconia 03246.

Rene A. Breau, PENACOOK

Wednesday, March 1, 2000

PENACOOK - Rene A. Breau, 80, of Elm Street, died Monday at his home.

He was born in Mexico, Maine, the son of James and Helen (Cormier) Breau. He lived in Penacook for 41 years, moving to the area from Indiana.

He worked for the Concord Department of Public Works for 20 years, retiring in 1982.

He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.He was predeceased by his daughter, Ann Gionette, who died in 1992.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Eleanor (Dugay) Breau of Penacook; four sons, James Dugay of Purcilville, Va., and David Breau, Michael Breau and Patrick Breau, all of Penacook; two daughters, Kathleen Dugay of Penacook and Cathy Breau of Concord; 18 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five brothers, James Breau, Lionel Breau, Edward Breau, Omer Breau and Raymond Breau, all of Mexico, Maine; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no calling hours.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated tomorrow at 10 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church. The Rev. W. Timothy Thibeault, pastor, will officiate.

The Wendell J. Butt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
