Rudolph B. White Jr., NORTHFIELD

Tuesday, February 29, 2000

NORTHFIELD - Rudolph B. White Jr., 51, died Sunday at Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia.

He was born in Laconia, the son of Rudolph Sr. and Beverly (Ulman) White. He lived in Epsom, Concord and Laconia before moving to Northfield 18 years ago.

He was employed by Scott & Williams Co. in Laconia, the Laconia State School and Red Dunn Paving. He recently worked at Belmont Auto.

He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Tilton.

He was predeceased by a brother, Benjamin White, in 1981.

He is survived by his father and stepmother, Rudolph and Eva White of Concord; his mother, Beverly LeFleur of Epsom; his wife, Bernie Decato of Northfield; two sons, Rudolph White III of Northfield and Christopher Decato of Belmont; a daughter, Cassandra White of Northfield; his paternal grandmother, Ruth White of Laconia; three brothers, Glenn White of Pembroke, Larry White of New York and Scott White of Pittsfield; two sisters, Brenda Zarr of Dorchester and Roxanna Connors of Epsom; three half-brothers, John Yeaton of Alabama, Scott White of Weare and Michael White of Concord; four step-brothers, Herbert Yeaton of Epsom, Thomas Yeaton of Alaska, Robert Yeaton of Concord and Rick Robinson of Franklin; and two step-sisters, Gloria O'Connor of Northwood and Betty Fabbo of Epsom.

Calling hours will be held tomorrow from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Thibault-Neun Funeral Home, 143 Franklin St., Franklin.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. David Sivret will be officiating.

Burial will be held in the spring at the Buck Street Cemetery in Pembroke.

Memorial donations may be made to his family to assist with medical expenses.

Beatrice Henriksen, CONTOOCOOK

CONTOOCOOK - Beatrice J. Henriksen, 89, died Sunday at Concord Hospital after a short illness.

She was born in Albany, N.Y., the daughter of Thorvald and Eleanora (Foss) Jensen. She was a longtime resident of Contoocook.

She was predeceased by her husband, Henry Henriksen, a retired U.S. Navy serviceman.

She is survived by two sons, Henry Henriksen of Portsmouth and Jon Henriksen of Austin, Texas; a daughter, Kristina Henriksen of Contoocook; four grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.

Services will be held privately. Burial will be held at Arlington (Va.) National Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hopkinton Food Pantry, 14 Maple St., Contoocook 03229.

The Cremation Society of New Hampshire is in charge of arrangements.

Edward P. Ballam Sr., HAVERHILL CORNER

HAVERHILL CORNER - Edward P. Ballam Sr., 71, formerly of Dunbarton, died Saturday at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in White River Junction, Vt., after a long battle with emphysema.

He was born in Concord, the son of John and Mary (Warren) Ballam. He lived in Dunbarton for more than 40 years.

He was educated in Hopkinton schools. He moved to Dunbarton with his parents, who operated a small dairy farm.

He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II as a motor machinist on the USS FDR aircraft carrier and the USS Newport News destroyer operating in the Mediterranean.

Following an honorable discharge from the Navy, he worked for more than 45 years as an auto mechanic at Swain and Whiteman's Gulf Station in Concord and for the state of New Hampshire Highway Department in Concord.

In 1979, he opened Ballam's Auto Service at his home in Dunbarton.

In 1991, he bought the Orfordville General Store in Orfordville with his wife. They sold the store in 1997 and retired to Haverhill Corner.

He served as chief of the Dunbarton Volunteer Fire Department for 10 years in the 1960s and 1970s. He also served as Dunbarton's Civil Defense director for many years and was the town's forest fire warden. He was the first president of the Capital Area Mutual Aid Fire Compact and served the town as the chairman of the 1976 U.S. Bicentennial parade.

He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 65 in Weare.

He took pride in showing his antique Packard at local car shows and parades.

He was predeceased a son, Michael Ballam; and three brothers, Carl Ballam, Robert Ballam and Richard Ballam.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Ballam, of Haverhill Corner; two sons, Edward Ballam Jr. of Haverhill Corner and David Ballam of Saugus, Mass.; a brother, Donald Ballam of Prattsburg, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no calling hours.

Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church, Route 13, Dunbarton. A private burial will be held in Long Meadow Cemetery in Auburn at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made to the Dunbarton Volunteer Fire Department, Dunbarton 03045.

The Knight Funeral Home of White River Junction, Vt., is in charge of arrangements.

John Davidson, NEW LONDON

Tuesday, February 29, 2000

NEW LONDON - John Davidson, 85, died yesterday at the Clough Center after a long illness.

He was born in Bloomfield, N.J., the son of John Jr. and Annie (Stackhouse) Davidson.

He attended public schools in Montclair, N.J., and graduated from Cornell University in 1937 with a degree in administrative and mechanical engineering. While at Cornell, he was a member of the Delta Phi fraternity and a member of the honorary engineering society. He also trained in the Army ROTC and rowed as a member of the Cornell crew team.

He served as a major during World War II at the Signal Corps Engineering Laboratories in Fort Monmouth, N.J.

After the war, he worked for the Western Electric Co. as a manufacture design engineer and for Booz, Allen and Hamilton as a consulting engineer. From 1953 until his retirement in 1980, he was secretary-treasurer of the American Insurance Association in New York City.

He was a member and former president of the Montclair Society of Engineers, a consultant to the Glen Gray Council of the Boy Scouts of America and a past deacon for the Upper Montclair Union Congregational Church.

He was also an active member and former president of the County Squires and a member of the Lake Sunapee Country Club. He also officiated at track meets at Dartmouth College and was a member of the First Baptist Church of New London.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Charlotte (Barnes) Davidson of New London; a son, Ralph Davidson of New London; two daughters, Joan LaMonica of Harleysville, Pa., and Doris Davidson of Wilder, Vt.; four granddaughters; a great-granddaughter; a sister, Anne Flynn of Belfast, Maine; and a niece, a nephew and cousins.

There will be no calling hours.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of New London. The Rev. Richard Dutton will officiate.

Burial will be held in the spring in the Old Main Street Cemetery in New London.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lake Sunapee Region Visiting Nurse Association, P.O. Box 2209, New London 03257 or to the Alzheimer's Association, 10 Ferry St., Suite 419, Concord 03301-5022.

The Chadwick Funeral Service of New London is in charge of arrangements.

M. Alice Pyne Sigman, APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz.

APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. - M. Alice (O' Connell) Pyne Sigman, 91, a former resident of Nashua, died Jan. 30 in Arizona.

She was born in Lawrence, Mass., the daughter of James and Zina O'Connell and attended school in Lawrence, Mass.

She was employed for 35 years in the office of J.F. McElwyn Co. and retired in 1973.

She was a member of the Nashua chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons, where she served as the chapter president for two years and as a state director.

She is survived by her husband, James Sigman; a son, Robert Bellisle of Hudson; three daughters, Barbara Kearn of Pelham, Bette-Ann Roy of Apache Junction, Ariz., and Jean Laton of Bow; a sister, Evelyn Hopkinton of Newburyport, Mass.; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a niece and a nephew.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated May 6 at St. Patrick's Church in Lawrence, Mass.

Burial will follow at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence, Mass.

The Mesa Heritage Mortuary in Arizona is in charge of arrangements.

Leo J. Whelton, RIDGEFIELD, Conn.

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. - Leo J. Whelton, 72, of Field Crest Drive, died Sunday at home.

He was born in South Boston, the son of John and Catherine (Conley) Whelton. He had lived in Ridgefield, Conn., for the past 36 years and previously lived in Willington, Conn.

He attended Boston schools and was a graduate of Boston Teachers College. He received his master's degree from Fairfield University.

He served with the U.S. Navy.

He was a teacher at Greenwich (Conn.) Academy from 1963 to 1976 and served as chairman of the mathematics department.

From 1976 to 1998 he was the owner of Whelton Accounting in Ridgefield, Conn.

He was a member and lector of St. Mary's Parish.

He was predeceased by his wife, Harriett (Roberts) Whelton.

He is survived by five sons, Brian Whelton of Stratford, Conn., John Whelton of Sanbornton, Paul Whelton of Madison, Stephen Whelton of Moultonboro and Daniel Whelton of Henniker; five daughters, Elaine Whelton of Weston, Conn., Ann Galvin of Danbury, Conn., Elizabeth Carpenter of Oakland, N.J., Catherine Duelfer of Millstone, N.J., and Margaret Pane of Bethel, Conn.; a sister, Eleanore Jemison of Kennebunkport, Maine; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Kane Funeral Home, 41 Catoonah St., Ridgefield, Conn.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Ridgefield, Conn. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Ridgefield, Conn.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut, 30 West St., Danbury, Conn. 06810.
