KATHERINE STILLWELL

Katherine Elsye Stillwell, 89, of Belmont, Mass., and formerly of Canaan, died on Tuesday, June 15, 2004 at the Belmont Manor Nursing Center.

She was born on April 15, 1915 in Canaan, the daughter of George E. and Leila (Crawford) Stevens. Mrs. Stillwell attended grammar school in Canaan; her family moved to Maine and later to Ashland, N.H., and she was a 1932 graduate of Ashland High School.

She attended Plymouth Normal School and after her graduation in 1935 she moved to Boston. She worked as a waitress in several Boston area restaurants for many years. Mrs. Stillwell was well known for her volunteer work in the Boston area, and will best be remembered as a woman who liked to help her fellowman.

Mrs. Katherine Stillwell is survived by a brother, Paul Stevens and his wife, Elaine, of Biddeford, Maine, and by several cousins.

Calling hours were held on Friday evening, June 18 at the Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook. A graveside funeral service was conducted on Saturday morning at the Colebrook Village Cemetery. Donations in memory of Mrs. Katherine E. Stillwell may be sent to the charity of one's choice.

ARVETTA THIBEAULT

Arvetta E. (Smith) Thibeault of Waltham, Mass., died on Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center.

She was the wife of the late Ovide Thibeault. Born and raised in Colebrook, she was the daughter of the late George and Lillian (Higgins) Smith. She lived for many years in New Hampshire before moving to Waltham over 45 years ago.

She leaves her daughters, Paula McCorry and her husband Edward of Willow Springs, N.C., and Nancy Leonelli and her husband Gregory of Lexington, Mass.; her sister, Regina Sweatt of Pittsford, Vt.; her brothers Gordon Smith, Frederick Smith, Kenneth Smith and Roland Smith, all of Colebrook, Glen Smith of Bridgeport, Conn., Howard Smith, Donald Smith and William Smith, all of Laconia; two grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 44 Binney Street, Boston, MA 02215.

ROGER COOPER

Roger D. Cooper, 51, of Bangor, Maine, died on June 26, 2004 in Millinocket as a result of an accident on Mt. Katahdin.

He was born on November 25, 1952 in West Stewartstown, son of the Rev. Herbert and Bertha (Smith) Cooper. He was graduated from Noble High School in Berwick, Maine, in 1971. In 1975 he was graduated from Rutgers University, Cook College, with a bachelor of arts degree in forestry, and received his master's degree from the University of Maine in Agricultural Economics.

Roger spent two years as a Peace Corps volunteer in Honduras, and another year working with the Honduras government. He was an employee of Bangor Hydro-Electric Company for approximately 15 years.

He is survived by his wife, Lori (Fineberg) Cooper of Bangor; a sister and her husband, Laurice and David Jackson of Berwick; three brothers and their wives, Joseph and Irene Cooper of Chesterfield, N.H., Col. Charles Cooper, Retired U.S.A.F. and Beverly of Springfield, Va., Nathan "Dick" and Kelley Cooper of Westport, Mass.; special niece and nephew Kathleen and Kenneth Jackson; and several other nieces and nephews.

A service of remembrance will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Irving Koelker officiating. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to Manna Ministries, PO Box 2763, Bangor, ME 04402-2763.

ARTHUR DAUPHINAIS

Arthur O. Dauphinais, 91, of Laconia, died on June 23, 2004 at the St. Francis Home, following an extended period of failing health. He was born in Fitchburg, Mass., on February 8, 1913, the son of William and Rosalie (Bedard) Dauphinais.

He was raised in Enfield, N.H., one of fifteen children in his family, and served in the Army during World War II. After the war he settled in Laconia, and was employed as a machinist by Scott and Williams until his retirement in 1975.

Mr. Dauphinais was a quiet and devoted family man who loved to read and tend to his garden. He was a long time parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Laconia.

His wife, Margurite-Dunn Dauphinais, died in 1959. He was also predeceased by a son, Francis, in 1975.

Family members include two daughters, Estelle Lyons and her husband Earl of Laconia, and Madeline Dauphinais, also of Laconia; two sons, Eugene Dauphinais of Laconia and Philip Dauphinais of Colebrook; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lena Dauphinais of Laconia, Theresa Lozeau of Enfield and Regina Dauphinais of Cheshire, Conn.; a brother, Wilfred Dauphinais of Enfield; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on June 26, with burial following at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Laconia. Donations in memory of Arthur Dauphinais may be sent Sacred Heart Church, 291 Union Ave., Laconia, NH 03246.

FREDERICK SNARE

Frederick Snare III, 81, of Dorset and Averill, Vt., died on Tuesday June 22, 2004.

He was born in Englewood, N.J., son of Edith Dulles and Frederick Snare Jr. He attended the Taft School and Wesleyan University before joining the Marine Corps to serve in the Pacific during World War II. He lived in Wilton, Conn., and New York City while a partner at F.I. DuPont. He moved to Bedford, N.Y., when he was remarried to Sally Schoellkopf and worked with Renwick Realty. He moved to Dorset in 1995 at the time of her death.

The Snare family has had a camp in Averill since 1927, following years of fishing at Quimby Country.

He leaves a son, Derick, and granddaughter, Audrey, of Somerville, Mass.; three step-sons, Rick Kelley of Seattle, Wash., Philip Kelley of Stowe and Peter Kelley of Rutland, Vt.; two sisters, Dorothy Warner and Margorie Chapman of Dorset; a brother, William Snare of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held on Tuesday, June 29 at the United Church of Dorset. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the United Church of Dorset, PO Box 263, Dorset, VT, or the National Kidney Found-ation, 11 Vanderbilt Avenue, Suite 105, Norwood, MA 02062.

MADELEINE CHALOUX

Madeleine R. Chaloux, 74, of North Port, Fla., died on July 19, 2004.

She was born on August 12, 1929 in Coaticook, Quebec and moved to Florida nine years ago from Norton. Mrs. Chaloux was the former owner of a grocery store in Norton and also owned a laundromat in Colebrook. She was a member of San Pedro Catholic Church in North Port.

Survivors include her husband Albert; son, Raymond Frechette of Portsmouth; a sister, Pat Hunt of Deleware; brothers, Roger and Ronald Corbeil of Canada. Arrange-ments are under the direction of the National Cremation Society of Port Charlotte, Fla.

JOHN DEMAYO

John Joseph DeMayo Jr., 78, of Fryeburg, Maine, died on July 18, 2004 at the Fryeburg Health Care Center. John was born in Charlestown, N.H., on February 19, 1926, the son of John Joseph DeMayo Sr. and Dorothy (Hamlin) DeMayo. He grew up and was educated in Candia and was a World War II Navy veteran. John lived in Newport for many years, and owned and operated Bates and DeMayo Service Station. He also was a purchasing agent for LaValley's Building Supply. He was a member of the Newport American Legion and past commander of the Newport VFW. John had lived in Fryeburg for the past two an a half years, coming from North Stratford.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Sharon DeMayo; two brothers, Richard DeMayo and George Chamberlin; two sisters, Margaret Pierro and Josephine Walsh.

His family includes his wife Judith (Sylvester) DeMayo of Fryeburg, a daughter, Tiffanie DeMayo of Newport; three step-daughters, Susan Chandler of Boston, Jenny Baker and Pixie Ingallis; and two brothers, Francis DeMayo of Candia and Donald DeMayo of Boscawen.

A graveside service was held on Monday, July 26 at Pine Grove Cemetery in Newport.

FRANCIS GENDRON

Francis E. Gendron, 79, of Berlin, died on July 22, 2004 at home.

Born on October 24, 1924 in West Stewartstown, he was the son of Nazaire and Virginie (Daigneault) Gendron.

His wife, Armeline "Amy" (Jacques) Gendron, died on January 7, 1999.

Mr. Gendron was a World War II veteran of the Army and a member of the VFW.

The family includes his children, Dennis "Red" Gendron of Clifton Park, N.Y., and Phillip, Lisa and Denise Nelson; two brothers, Edward Gendron of Berlin and Henry Gendron of Ware, Mass.; two sisters, Fernande Sevigny of St. Hyacinthe, Canada, and Georgette Faford of Drummondville, Canada; two granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours were held on Sunday at Fleury-Patry Funeral Home in Berlin. A celebration of Mr. Gendron's life followed in the afternoon. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery at the family's convenience. Memorial donations may be made to Hansen Ski Center, Berlin.

WILLIAM G. HOADLEY

William G. Hoadley, 82, of Tilton, died at Merrimack County Nursing Home on July 16, 2004. Born in Lowell, Vt., on May 6, 1922, he was the son of William Elias Hoadley and Myrtie Ann (Cushing) Hoadley. He was raised in Lowell and in North Stratford, then lived in Franklin for 27 years before moving to Tilton, where he lived for 30 years.

While in Franklin, he was a member of the Baptist Church of Franklin and formerly taught Sunday school there.

During World War II, Mr. Hoadley served with the Coast Guard as a motor machinist's mate, 3rd class. He made 22 overseas trips to Europe aboard the USS Poole, a destroyer escort. Several years ago, he was a meat cutter at the former Franklin Meat Co. He later worked at Jordan Meat Co. in Laconia until retiring.

Mr. Hoadley was a former member of Franklin VFW Post 1698 and The Franklin American Legion Post.

Several years ago he had a band, for which he played guitar and sang. Mr. Hoadley also enjoyed fishing and hunting.

The family includes his wife of 57 years, Gertrude (Benoit) Hoadley of Franklin; three daughters, Debbie Rines of Hooksett, Ellen Hoadley of Boscawen, and Wilhemina Millis of Sanbornton; two grandchildren; a sister, Elizabeth Hoadley of Franklin; a half-brother, William Joscelyn of Tilton; and nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Thibault-Neun Funeral Home, 143 Franklin St., Franklin. Memorial donations may be made to the New Hampshire Veterans Home, PO Box 229, Tilton, NH 03276.

JENNIFER JACKSON

Jennifer "Jenn" Jackson, 22, of Canaan, died on July 18, 2004 at Massachusetts General Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Jennifer was born on June 15, 1982, the daughter of Mary-Ann Gilbert (Jackson). She was graduated from high school in June, 2004, and planned to attend college. She enjoyed photography, driving in her car, hanging out with friends and helping others.

Jennifer had a love for animals, including the stuffed ones. Horseback riding and four-wheeling were among her many passions. She loved to watch science fiction and horror movies. Her favorite TV series was "Stargate SG-1: on the SciFi channel. She had two poems published, one of which she read as a eulogy at her uncle's funeral.

Jennifer is survived by her mother, MaryAnn (Jackson) Gilbert and stepfather Denis Gilbert of Canaan; a brother, Josh Gilbert; maternal grandparents Paul and Connie Jackson of Canaan; paternal grandparents Wilmont and Evelyn Carney of Clarksville; step-grandmother Rejeanne Gilbert of Colebrook; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by an uncle, John Jackson, in 1997.

There were no calling hours, at Jennifer's request. Services will be held at St. Albert's Church in West Stewartstown on Saturday, August 7 at 11 a.m. Memorial arrangements are under the direction of Jenkins Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jennifer Jackson Memorial Fund, c/o First Colebrook Bank, Atten-tion: Rosemary Mulliken, 132 Main St., Colebrook, NH 03576. Proceeds from the Memorial Fund will be forwarded to the American Lung Association.

FREDERICK MICKELBORO

Frederick Shelton Mickelboro, 49, of Manchester, died on July 16, 2004 at Ridgewood Healthcare Center after a lengthy illness.

Born in Terrell, Texas on July 3, 1955, he was the son of Frederick L. Mickelboro and Irvena (Grover) Williams, formerly of Stewartstown and Canaan.

The family includes two children, Janette Mickelboro and Hulk Mayberry, both of Manchester; a grandchild; his mother, of Manchester; three sisters, Sally Austin of Searsport, Maine, Mary Cameron of Weare and Penny Couture of Candia; three brothers, Jack Mickelboro of South Carolina, Michael Williams of Manchester and Roger Williams of Danville; and several nephews and nieces.

There are no calling hours.

Funeral services will be private at the family's convenience.

JOSEPH NOLET

Joseph Louis "Joe Bleach" Nolet, 86, of Berlin, died on Monday, July 26, 2004 at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital after a long illness.

Mr. Nolet was born on August 16, 1917 in Berlin, son of the late Alfred and Marie (Lapointe) Nolet. He was raised and educated in Berlin.

He served in the Army during World War II, and was stationed in Australia. He was a self-employed salesman for most of his professional life.

He is survived by two brothers, Emilien Nolet of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and Mr. Alfred Nolet of the Soldier's Home in Tilton. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Mr. Nolet is preceded in death by his parents.

There will be no calling hours. A graveside burial service will be held in Saint Anne's Cemetery in Berlin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 28, with the Deacon Merle Albert of the Good Shepard Parish officiating.

RICHARD LEACH

Richard D. "Dick" Leach of Richland, Wash., died on Sunday, August 29, 2004. Dick was born in Colebrook on September 25, 1932. He was the third of four children born to Homer and Nellie Leach.

He spent his growing-up years in Errol. After high school he went into the Navy, where he proudly served his country for 21 years. In 1957 he went to Idaho to attend the second class that went through nuclear power school. He helped build the USS Long Beach, CGN9, and was stationed aboard her three times.

He was married to Dottie in 1956. They were married for 48 years and they had three fantastic children.

After retiring from the Navy in 1972, he worked as an engineer at four different nuclear power plants around the country. The last 10 years he worked for Bechtel; he had to retire in 1992 due to ill health. At this time he took up woodworking and made wooden toys and trains, which were loved by many friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Dottie Leach; three children, Richard D. Leach Jr., Julie Gross, Tim Leach and his wife Marty; three grandchildren; a brother, Landon Leach; a sister, Quinceana Edmonds; and a sister and brother in-law, Elaine and George Adams.

A memorial service was held at Einan's Funeral Home in Richland on Friday, September 3. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Dick's name to Kadlec Foundation, 888 Swift Blvd. Richland, WA 99352.
